DIY: OM642 Accessory belt, Idler and tensioner Replacement:: 2008 Mercedes GL320 CDI Diesel

The GL320 had some noises coming from the engine bay and when I heard them I not sure it was the belt but I could see the tensioned bouncing so I took chance and it paid off.
We fixed it!

I got same rubber grinded wool looking substance and can’t figure what is that and mine keep breaking belt on every couple thousand mile

I don’t know for sure what it was. It seems like it was melted belt but it also could have been oil that leaked down onto the belt from the filler cap and the. Got slung to the spots.
I haven’t broken a belt yet. And we’ve got a 800+ miles on the new tensioner and idler pulleys. No issues so far.
