    I quit my 6 figure I-bank job end of 2011 at the age of 28 to to pursue my goal of being a small business owner and traveling the world. 3 years and 22 countries later, I can honestly say that it was the best decision I ever made. 3 years ago I was miserable. Today, I am living a happy healthy life! Life is great! You did the right thing. Good luck to you!

      +ezumach, I too am in the same situation. I'm 33 years old and have a solid job, not 6 figures, but above $50k/yr but I want to get out there and travel and if I was able to start a small business and sustain myself, that would be my main goal. I've looked into #vanlife and #buslife.

    strikes like a brick...

    • @changeyourlifebt
      @changeyourlifebt 8 років тому

      oh yeah :) it was a hard one to hear. I've successfully changed that though. took three years of deep personal work and now feel confident in myself despite circumstances. I recently chased down a robber who stole a rubber chicken off my porch and got it back. It was in an amazon bag. He didn't know what he was stealing. but once i confronted him .. he did :)

      That's a funny story but shows your energy level both physically and mentally. I am a step away from quitting my job to do something I love before I die - well I'm OLD. But jumping off the cliff is not an easy thing. You should make some videos about personal work that brought you back to your true self. Lots of people can get inspired by them I'm sure. Did you find a life coach locally? I don' know if I have enough faith in them as of now though.. I feel old, useless(HARD to get a new job) and going through a motion. Should do something before I die...
      Thanks for sharing your story.

      Your welcome. Actually I am a life coach now. I enjoy the process of helping others discover what's holding them back. Usually fear but it's different for each person.
      And thanks for the inspiration to keep sharing my story.

    • @purewater77887

      I think my doubt about 'coaches' comes from 1. not know much what they can do and 2. genuinely distrusting psychiatrists. Do you have a website? I used to be a photographer too (fine arts). I still take photos of the sky which is my fascination. If I were 35 I think i would take action right now...

    I just quit my $130k Information Security and Compliance job. I onced loved what I do. Felt like my challenge was to stay one step ahead of hackers and doing what's right to protect people's sensitive personal information. The past few years security is a shit show no matter which company you work for and compliance with data protection regulations is a total lie. I spent my days in meetings discussing all the things the company needed to do to be secure and come into compliance only to hear all the reasons and self-made road blocks why they can't. I've heard every excuse imaginable. I lived in a 800 sq ft apartment for $2000 a month, drove in grid lock traffic an hour to and from work, only to listen to BS all the day long. Now I live off grid in a tiny house I built myself on my homestead and work 25 hours a week for minimum wage at a small town, non-franchise, convenience store/gas station owned by an old high school classmate. Couldn't be happier. I'm finally living my dream now.

    I have been in deep depression for close to 7 years due to unhappiness at my job. It is extremely tough to make bold moves like this gentleman, especially with young children... but it is possible. Sometime, even with great responsibilities at home, one just has to make a bold move to improve mental/physical health. What I have found is that fear is the first and greatest obstacle to over come to make positive changes in ones life. Learn to conquer fear, or at least to minimize it to a reasonable level, and the path to building a better life on ones own terms will be much easier. I wish I could share more with everyone but I have just begun my journey into determining my own life beyond corporate rule. It has been videos like this one that have help me clear the haze of depression and confusion. Thank you for sharing your life struggles and victories in this video that have indeed made a positive impact on people. Cheers

    I'm on the verge of leaving my $66,000 plus job at FedEx as a Operations Manager. Dont get me wrong the pay is nice and lovely, but if I m not happy getting up doing the same thing over and over again its time to look elsewhere. I have also been waiting to transfer over to another FedEx brand thats local, and has more structure, did the interview in person already, just waiting. But I probably end of taking something else for the time being. its not about the money, its about my happiness and having a work life balance. I cant deal with working 16 plus hours a day anymore. Specially not for the upcoming busy peak season we have towards the holidays.

    You're not the only, I've done the same, but I didn't make as much as your IT job. The key is if we willing to sacrifice, we will succeed in life. I would say fear would be the most obstacle reason from getting people to pursue the dream job. Great video! very inspired.

    • @changeyourlifebt

      Thanks man! What's your biggest fear in regards to this?

    • @johnkh17
      @johnkh17 8 років тому +2

      Hi Thomas,
      My biggest fear would be run out of money, and can't get new job. I'm in process of moving to southeast Asia (Cambodia) mainly. I'm pursuing my career to become esl teacher, and start a family there. I hope my dream come true.

    • @changeyourlifebt
      @changeyourlifebt 8 років тому +3

      have you been able to get a job before?
      If that is true then maybe that fear isn't 100% real. Consider that maybe your brain just wants to keep you safe.
      I like to ask myself the question... "is what I think will happen 100% true it would happen?" For me it's usually not. Then I ask is it worth taking that risk? Would I regret not trying?

    I'm about to make that same jump myself and it is a little scary. I currently work in Radiology ( MRI) and it has been the most awful career ever. I wrote a book about it. I have switched jobs thinking it would get better abd it never did. I decided to be a travel tech where my money is more then double then if I worked standard full time job in Radiology. So my plan is one more assignment and I'm going back to school in the fall. I will be allowed to draw unemployment after my last assignment which will allow me to look for job and go back to school. It is scary to do this change bc I have been working in MRI for 11 years so pay is good but my mental health is worth more. Wish me luck !

I'm cutting down on my workload but I still can't afford to just quit my current gigs to be able to sustain myself and to pay for my current bills. I would love to hear any advice in terms of how to save up efficiently so I can just stick to 1 job and still be able to afford basic needs so I can focus on volunteer work and art hopefully.

    That is awesome. I wished I could take the leap. It's much harder when you have debt and student loans and a family.

    • @changeyourlifebt
      @changeyourlifebt 9 років тому +4

      Thanks and it is easier without debt and a family. But I had a lot of debt and paid it all off before I left. I also help take care of my mom. It's probably different than your situation but that doesn't mean you can't start planning to do something now for the future. Create a plan And start working it. Too many people give up because they can't see past NOW. If you have kids did you give up on them because they didn't turn 18 a month after they were born? I doubt it. :-). Use the same type of mindset. Plan that it will take time and put systems in place in your life to ensure a step towards the bigger goal is done everyday. Also find others out there in your same situation who have done what you want to do and make friends with them.
      I hope that helps.
      Also I'll have my new course coming out soon that helps others do the planning piece soon. Checkout www.thecorporateexitcoach.com. Throw a reminder on your calendar to look at it in December or early Jan. :-)

    Mr. Brad: Good for you. It's important that you had a vision. You did not just leave the corporate world, but you also nurtured a dream to move towards. That's absolutely right.
    But, I hope you will please bless your mother. That empty room she let you return to? Well, it might have been great that you did some home repair for her, but don't take her for granted. That time and safe space she gave you created a "womb" for your rebirth. Think about that. She's a special person. Not all seeking to replicate your bold move have that back-up.

      its feasible with kids. You need chutzpah. I moved my kids from germany to the UK ( I am a solo dad ). I was never the type of person to shelve everything and wait until the kids are adult. by the time they are adult and you've sat there waiting, the energy level is no longer the same and you are in a different space as a middle aged person because there are parents that are getting older. My parents are now 61 years of age ( both ), they are doing fine and still working but i still feel like checking on them.

    I think it's great to want to do what you love, but what I find is that as soon as something we love becomes a job, sometimes the joy can be sucked out of it. It only takes 1-2 difficult clients to change an attitude. haha. I think having a plan B on the side for a while is a good plan. I know this wasn't the case here...he was laid off, but going from $90k to self employment is going to be a shock to your system. It could take many years to build enough clientele to be able to stay afloat and make a decent wage. It took me more than 5 years of self employment to get to the six figure mark and during the bad economic times of 2008 happened and was knocked down to half that. It took almost 10 years to get back to six figures. So the moral of the story is that even self employment can be risky and uncertain. But I would NEVER go back to a cubicle.

      Is there any chance I can DM/email you?

      yeah for 9 months while I rehabbed my mom's house. my dad passed away when i was 18 and my mom didn't have any other income. So, i invested 13K into her house of my own money because family is important to me. Her house was falling apart and she didn't have resources to fix things herself. so, i helped her and traveled and kept launching business till i moved out.

    the only problem i got with this, is that it seems like "passion jobs" don't pay shit. like only 1 in 15,000,000 people make a lot of money with a passion job. so that's like a really risky move. i woulda just stuck it out with the $90,000 dollar a year job. and kept bouncing around to different employers until i found the one that i like the most. let me guess.... you're employer expected you to do 4 other people's jobs, on top of your job. right?

    • @changeyourlifebt
      @changeyourlifebt 8 років тому +3

      i did bounce around for several years and no i didn't find your point of view right at each job. Some yes but i did find employers where my job was as described. However I kept finding the same thing i wasn't happy without the ability to be my own boss and travel more. I took the leap and For me it has been worth it. I've traveled more, met a lot of amazing people and learned a TON about myself. I've used a lot of my life savings but have gone from no confidence to confident in who I am. It may have cost my life savings but I've gotten a whole new life out of it. Now launching the next phase of entrepreneurship.

    LOL I could not think of working in the corporate PC office world! Yes making money is good but how am I a Gen X surf punk going to last in an office? Lots of friends with school loan payments did this to make money and office people look down on labor workers. Funny thing is I made 2-3 times the money they did with no loan payments and be however you want without fist fighting at work. It takes a skill required trade and ability to deal with contractors that will try shady back charge tactics but is fun and has pride. I a Union Elevator/Escalator mechanic/foreman but other trades can be this way too. While taking an emergency #2 in a portable unit only closed shoulder hi but raised a few feet off the ground a group of 20 office people walk by on a rare tour. Guys tapping on girls shoulders pointing me out. As they walk by I say HELLO FOLKS HOW IS YOUR TOUR TODAY? The look on their faces went opposite.

      It gets boring even with the money doing the same thing everyday. It can literally drive you crazy especially if there’s other people who work for themselves and make more money on their own time.

      @@Damien81ful Where I differ is that I don't even make a living wage. There has been times where my whole checks went straight for Rent. If you have been Rich or Well off your whole life you can't understand. I've been trying everything to get out of making min. wage and being poor... and I'm still not there yet. I have done stuff over and over again, but the differences is 90k a year compared to under 10k a year.

      TEKTHRASH I’m looking into opening an FBA account with amazon. I heard there’s a lot of money if you can find the right product niche of buying low and selling high with little start up cash.

      @@Damien81ful I've heard tons of people talking about that... I wonder??? I have been trying to work on my own Ebay business to get ahead since my only real skill is Art. Is it true you have to pay to have a Amazon Account?

    • @Damien81ful

      TEKTHRASH I believe first plan is $1 per item sold limited to 40 sells monthly plus shipping costs. Then the other plan is like 40 monthly for unlimited sells with other fees. But It looks promising if you have around 10k to startup with and know what you’re doing.
