  • Inkscape’s Rotate Copies Live Path Effect can be used to create some fantastic designs. It allows you to evenly space any number of copies around a circle or you can set the angle between copies, the number of copies and the start angle.
    By moving the rotation centre you can create some interesting effects, you can also adjust the original path whilst you work to perfect your design.
    Once you are happy with your design you can use: Path - Object to Path to finalize the design and convert it to a path.
    In this tutorial, I demonstrate the feature and show you how to use them, I then use Rotate Copies to create a rose design.
    In this tutorial, I’m using the latest version of Inkscape - Inkscape 1.1

    Thanks for this tutorial, that was really helpful, I can use this for my own ideas now! Still very much a beginner but Inkscape offers so much for a free program, and your tutorials are great, subscribed!

      Thanks, Inkscape does have a lot to offer and with the alpha version of Inkscape 1.2 now available to download, it's getting even better.

    I like the pacing of your tutorials. I find logosbynick to be a bit fast for a beginner so I have to pause a lot, and TJ Free to be a bit too slow. They both do a great job, but at my current skill level, yours are perfect.

      Thanks, is nice be compared with the two big names in free software tutorials. It's helpful to know that I'm getting the pace right for my target audience. 👍

    Thank You, nice overview of the lpe rotate copies with a useful project.
    Oh, is that a Scribus icon on your taskbar?

      Well spotted, yes it is. Not sure when I'll get on to Scribus though, maybe I'll make a quick overview video covering the basics at some point. I know the Inkscape development team are working on multi-page documents at the moment which is great news.

    thanks man, was about to lose my mind over this feature, I didn't know that you have to use the Node tool, not the Rotation center

    You are simply awesome mann : your teaching style of calmness crisp clear tone no matter how complex the technique is that leaves me the student jaw dropping experience but inspired to do the same technique (you have to a technical teacher of sorts?) (where do I sign up)

    Hi! Fantastic video. Is there a way to "break apart" the effect, so for example I can take just one of two of those petals and make them different (or superimpose them in a different way, for example). I tried with "Split Elements" option, and, while I can then change the shape of one or two elements, they aren't totally "detached". I then tried with Ungroup, or Path > Break Apart, but that path effect isn't a group or a "breakable path". Any suggestion?

    • @CreateForFree
      @CreateForFree  Рік тому +1

      To finalize or fix a Live Path Effect you can use Path - Object to Path which will convert it into a single path, you can then use Path - Break apart or Split path to separate the petals.

      @@CreateForFree Ops, you are right! Indeed, I tried several commands, while I passed away the correct one by mistake! Thanks for you time.

    I agree with the comment by True AlfalfaMale comment. LogosbyNick is a bit too fast for me. This is a better, clearer pace and instuction

      @@CreateForFree Yes thank you. I just need to practice. In particular the Bezier Tool. I still struggle with that. Thank you for all your tutorials

    • @CreateForFree
      @CreateForFree  2 роки тому +1

      Sometimes I find it quicker and easier to quickly place the nodes with the Bezier tool, then use the nodes tool to shape and perfect the path - as I did with the Rose leaves. I guess it just depends on how you like to work. I'll add the Bezier tool to my list of future tutorials.

    Great result, but please DO speak up, the gradient-part is totally inaudible, I have no idea what you are saying

    • @CreateForFree
      @CreateForFree  2 роки тому

      Sorry about that. If you turn on captions the auto generated captions are pretty good.
      In the gradient section, I add a radial gradient, then adjust the colour and opacity of the stops. The stops are the dots on the gradient lines, you can add new stops by double clicking on the line where you want a stop. You can then (with it selected) adjust it's position, colour and opacity.

      @@CreateForFree Thanks for explaning, that makes alot of sense. I was particulary amazed by the simplicity of making the red part of the rose. Especially the part about the rotation was an eyeopener! Subbed your channel, certainly because I see a kzillion Inkscape tutorials!
