  • Low poly art is simple to create using Inkscape, in this video I show you how to create this polygon portrait of a Kingfisher. I show you how to set up the Bezier pen tool so you can only draw straight lines and I show you how to make your line art stand out as you create your image.
Once you have covered your image in polygons, making sure you leave no gaps, you can start to colour in your picture use the Nodes tool to select polygon then swap to the Dropper to pick a colour from the image.
You can speed up your workflow by using keyboard shortcuts:
    (n) Nodes tool
    (d) Dropper (or colour picker)
Select a polygon with the Nodes tool, then press d to swap to the dropper. Select a colour from within the polygon. Then rinse and repeat, until all the polygons have been coloured.
Although I haven’t used layers in this tutorial, it is a good idea to put your reference image on a different layer to prevent accidentally clicking on it. You can also adjust the opacity of a separate layer and hide it when needed.
Have fun creating your low poly art, using mostly triangles is very effective.
