Tbh the remakes of all the themes in this game were much better I dont get the complaining. They preserved their spirit and vibe and renewed it perfectly without taking away from it.
Everytime I face her, I have pokemon with all sorts of status conditions, low level trainer pokemon that I was trying to level up, or just plain trash on me. Literally every battle with May was so lucky
I like how you become really good friends with your rival in this game (almost to the point of being romantic). You can really see how much your rival cares about you before you enter the cave of origin and after you defeat the elite four.
God I love this theme. I don't know why, but for me it fits Brendan/May relationship perfectly, they are friendly rivals, and so this theme has some more cheerful moments, and some more serious, resembling the two both being friendly with a little rivalry in between.
Definitely agree, the only exception I have is the gym leader theme, it did feel a bit nullified compared to the original but other than that, yeah I agree! :D
Brandon/May is probably my favorite rival in the series. Instead of being cold/callous/edgy, they're your best friend. They just wanna help you out and get strong. This song proves it's really just "Let's see how good we've gotten! Just for fun!" and your rival DOES heal up your pokemon, which tends ot help if you've swept them with the last living pokemon on your team from an instance that decimated your team beforehand. So there's that. Admittedly, i got scared when May wanted me to fight her after becoming champion, thinking I had to sweep her with my Kyogre, my last pokemon, but I learned all six pokemon were at full health, and I was relieved.
I legitimately thought May was gonna confirm the world of Pokéshippers' prayers in that final cutscene. Not that I wouldn't mind that... I mean, the Pokémon Adventures manga even ships it too...
I really loved how Brendan/May does that little flourish at the beginning of each battle. I smiled when Brendan did that peek-a-boo gesture at the beginning of our first fight.
Majestic Absol Yeah, considering the manga usually portrays blood, violence, and nudity (Not complaining HAHAHAHA JK) which usually isn't how pokemon is, but alot of people hate brendon/may because they aren't "Agressive" rivals like Silver and Gary, but i prefer Brendon/May, still against you but still your best friend :D
After beating Steven and watching the credits roll, this hits so much harder than normal. Making a mandatory battle against your rival at the same spot you first battled each other. A welcome surprise to be sure.

I love this game. I freaking love it. I thought everyone was giving it high ratings just out of nostalgia, but no. I was wrong about that. I had never played any gen 3 games before this one, but I loved it. Not out of nostalgia. Out of pure loving. For. This. Freaking. Game. It's not exactly the hardest game ever, but it's not so much about the difficulty. It's about the thrill of every battle. About the enjoyment. It can get frustrating, but in the end it's all worth it. Just feeling so proud after you've beaten the main game. It's kind of a short game, but it's not about the length. It's about how much fun and good memories you had from every single battle you had, and every Pokémon you caught. This game is just absolutely amazing, I'd say even better than Pokémon Platinum, my first Pokémon game. And that's going a long way, considering I freaking loved Platinum as well. You'll love this game even if you didn't grow up with gen 3. I rate 9/10 for this amazing game. My first time doing a review, is it good? o.o

This is literally my favorite Pokemon game. Ever. Platinum comes close, VERY close, but they just nailed so many great things with this wonderful remake. My god GameFreak did a great job balancing the new of Gen 6 with the nostalgia of Hoenn. Came together pretty brilliantly if you ask me. Oh, and throw in the Delta Episode, Soaring freely around Hoenn on Latios/Latias and new-and-improved Secret Bases, and you got my favorite game of all time. Omega Ruby is my prized possession 3DS game! If you ask me, this is the last good Pokemon game. Sadly.

Heedfulconch3 It is, but the series isn't consistent. In fact Golden Sun's OST beats Ruby and Sapphire at some points in my opinion, but Pokemon consistently has good music in every game. They are all unique, varied, and well received.

That's a good analogy. It's the perfect natural blend of aggressive and friendly rival themes. It feels playful and fun but also tense and like you're being tested. But it's still a blast. And catchy! Oh so catchy.
Love this theme. The contrast between the intensity of this theme and their easygoing nature outside of battle makes me feel like the battle really brings out our hidden emotions.
I actually cried when I listened to this. To me, this theme symbolizes much more than a battle. I was 10 when ORAS released, I played it after I got a copy of Omega Ruby, (I also got Alpha Sapphire), and I played it all throughout 2015. I remember this was my theme of choice in online battles and in the Battle Maison. 2015 was such a good time, I was just a kid, played this game with my friends last period on Fridays during the school week, and my childhood was great. To think now it is 2024, both my maternal grandparents passed, and my childhood pet, and in 2015, all of them were healthy as healthy. This theme is amazing. Amazing.
My friend has convinced me to replay ORAS and I am just now realizing how hypnotizing the music is. It’s so good, especially this theme. The part where all of the music ceases and it’s just that one instrument with the drums bringing it back in is my favorite part of the song hands down, idk why it just sounds so perfect t. If someone could let me know what instrument that is (or is it’s just a combination of sounds) that would be great!
ikr i have the same exact feeling. I’ve played AS twice (while admittingly not finishing the second time) and OR once which turned out amazing. The main reason I play pokemon is to build a team and see the scenery

They really nailed it on these battle themes! The only ones I don't like are the Gym Leader and Elite Four. The rest are pure gold imo. They did a great job on the town and route themes as well. To be honest, I believe it's safe to say the whole soundtrack is miles better than X & Y's! :)
Aye! For me I love EVERY SINGLE THEMES EXCEPT ELITE FOUR. ( Mainly because they removed the AWESOME thing called clapping... ) But even though I say whole sound track is Miles better than X and Y
They really did blow me away with this soundtrack, and considering that 3rd gen was my introduction to the pokemon series it does leave a huge impact for me.

I like how both of their dialogues are the same if you’re the other character. And they both share sweet and motivational characteristics. These two are so wholesome, it’s almost like Brendan/May are the same person.
I feel like of all the Pokémon themes out there, this one capture the pure joy of playing Pokémon the best. I love almost every other theme in this series, but in my opinion this is the greatest. Every time this comes on, I always feel like battling my heart out while grinning from ear to ear, regardless of whether I win or lose.
I love the rivalry between Brenden and May, because they are just best friends. Most rivals in the franchise are always trying get ahead of the other and always want to be better than you. May is motivational, she is always caring and trying to help Brenden to be the best, as friends should do.
I really miss fighting May. I always got an adrenaline rush fighting her purely 'cos of this theme. My last fight with her, down to her last pokémon, Swampert. She mega-evolved him, I mega-evolved Blaziken. We both go at each other, I emerge victorious. *sniff* t'was amazing. The temptation to start over just for those fights...
Mathieu LINDAU Actually to be honest most of the original battle themes were more powerful and epic and big and loud. Except the new magma/aqua boss theme.. That is fucking awesome they remade it so well!

These two are so like able.. Also, aren’t they official in the manga series? (If you know what I mean 😳) Even if they were more like best friends than rivals (Wally was like your true rival), they’re my favorite friendly rivals, and the chemistry and bond they have is just- adorable. The fact that they have such different personalities is a cool touch. May being air-headed, ditzy, sweet and out-going, while Brendan is laid-back, friendly, easily flustered at times and he even comes off as cocky at first, but ends up becoming a caring best friend.
Yeah better than the original, crappy low quality trumpets on the crappy gba cartridge. Pokemon Emerald was one of the first game I played and thought everything in oras was waay better, especially the music. But the exclusion of the battle frontier REAAALLY made me mad. I can see why people prefer the original. But then again they added megas, so thats an automatic plus
@@krimorant The crappy gba catrige is what made the song good. Hearing good music on older hard were like this is always super impressive and much more difficult (stuff like duck tails or ending them to super Mario land). I don't think the oras theme is particularly bad, but it lacks *identity* - The sounds are all very stock. Not to say there aren't massive highlights like 0:52, but your not being fair to the og gba titles. (I haven't played either of these games, a friend recommended me this song and I thought it was good, so for all I know the rest of ost to either game is amazing or crappy)
My ONLY complaint about this theme is that the riff that should be at 0:10 isn't there, and it kinda hurts me because that's when you know the chorus was coming, that's when you know the battle had started. Idk maybe it was just '03 kicking me in the face. I do love this theme and its instrumentation though. Its music never disappointed me.
I feel the same way, do you know why? Because the very same riff that's missing at 0:10 is the main melody (or rather the first few notes) of the Encounter Rival theme (overworld theme when Brendan/May show up). Not only did it make thematic sense but also musical sense. And it makes me sad to see it gone too 😔
I got goosebumps of nostalgia hearing this theme, especially when in the credits battle, I almost teared up thinking of a younger me playing the originals.

I remember playing OR for the first time, and I was almost in tears when I heard the intro music, it was one of my favorites, and then when I got into that first rival battle, and I heard this song, nothing could beat it or that game. There are a lot of great trainer battle themes, Cynthia, Red, the original Blue theme, but this one just always stuck with me.

Imo, I easily think that this is the best rival song ever. The song perfectly portrays the excitement of the battle, while also at the same time saying that this is still your rival, so don't just go easy on them. But even besides what its trying to show, the song is just🔥 anyway so there's that.
i have always had a thing for rival theme's, they gave me a rush and made me happy i could battle a trainer that would stand out entirely from others, i especially liked the hoenn rival theme, but this, IS THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER HEARED gamefreak and the pokemon company really did an amazing job on this awesome music, and a lot of thanks for posting this pokeli, you are awesome

Now I know Pokémon Brick Bronze wasn’t a mainline game, but it is technically the first Pokémon game I ever played. It wasn’t made officially by Nintendo but I still got nostalgia from it. Glad it used themes from oras, because now whenever I hear this I have happy memories.
Project Pokemon is what this music I remember the most, and the fact that I never heard my rival's theme in Pokemon Brick Bronze (even though I've been playing that game in 2017 until it got deleted).

This theme has always seemed to me the best song for your Rival to give you the farewell before departing for the Pokemon League, although I don't know how the story unwraps in ORAS.

Yeah I can kind of agree with this stuff now. At the time of my first comment i just got the game, and was still caught up in all the hype, but looking at it now, all it really added were new megas, the dexnav, and the delta episode
+goldber516 I disagree. X and Y sure they where decent games, but to me they felt like they took a "few" big steps forward and at the same time took "many" small steps back. Mega Evolutions are awesome, the online and new competitive features are great, and the visual presentation is really good, and yes the few Pokemon they introduced are actually well designed ... but everything else is lacking imo. The plot and villainous team are huge downgrades from B/W. The game is way too easy. There is too much grasping for nostalgia (Gen 1 stuff is thrown everyone, Legendary Birds/Mewtwo for no reason, Gen 1 starters, 2 ME for Charizard, Gen 1 Pokemon everywhere, many parallels to the Red/Blue, a Snorlax blocking your way needed a musical item to progress through ... the game doesn't seem to stand on its own b/c of this), the rivals are boring, the gym leaders have no personality (remember in Gen. 5 when they where actually part of the story and felt fleshed out?) and the post-game practically doesn't exist. I may be in the minority, but I loved gen.5. To me those games felt fresh, different, and new - something I look for in each new generation of Pokemon. With X and Y nothing really grasped me. It looked nice, and was fun but it felt like more of the same and not fresh at all.

Coming from someone who was extremely on the fence about a lot of the OR/AS remixes, this is probably my favorite one. It gets across the "Let's just have a fun battle!" Theme a lot more than the original did.

I love this game. I freaking love it. I thought everyone was giving it high ratings just out of nostalgia, but no. I was wrong about that. I had never played any gen 3 games before this one, but I loved it. Not out of nostalgia. Out of pure loving. For. This. Freaking. Game.
It's not exactly the hardest game ever, but it's not so much about the difficulty. It's about the thrill of every battle. About the enjoyment. It can get frustrating, but in the end it's all worth it. Just feeling so proud after you've beaten the main game. It's kind of a short game, but it's not about the length. It's about how much fun and good memories you had from every single battle you had, and every Pokémon you caught.
This game is just absolutely amazing, I'd say even better than Pokémon Platinum, my first Pokémon game. And that's going a long way, considering I freaking loved Platinum as well. You'll love this game even if you didn't grow up with gen 3.
I rate 9/10 for this amazing game.

Platinum comes close, VERY close, but they just nailed so many great things with this wonderful remake. My god GameFreak did a great job balancing the new of Gen 6 with the nostalgia of Hoenn. Came together pretty brilliantly if you ask me. Oh, and throw in the Delta Episode, Soaring freely around Hoenn on Latios/Latias and new-and-improved Secret Bases, and you got my favorite game of all time. Omega Ruby is my prized possession 3DS game!
If you ask me, this is the last good Pokemon game. Sadly.

Heedfulconch3 It is, but the series isn't consistent. In fact Golden Sun's OST beats Ruby and Sapphire at some points in my opinion, but Pokemon consistently has good music in every game. They are all unique, varied, and well received.

Love this theme. The contrast between the intensity of this theme and their easygoing nature outside of battle makes me feel like the battle really brings out our hidden emotions.
I actually cried when I listened to this. To me, this theme symbolizes much more than a battle. I was 10 when ORAS released, I played it after I got a copy of Omega Ruby, (I also got Alpha Sapphire), and I played it all throughout 2015. I remember this was my theme of choice in online battles and in the Battle Maison. 2015 was such a good time, I was just a kid, played this game with my friends last period on Fridays during the school week, and my childhood was great. To think now it is 2024, both my maternal grandparents passed, and my childhood pet, and in 2015, all of them were healthy as healthy. This theme is amazing. Amazing.

My friend has convinced me to replay ORAS and I am just now realizing how hypnotizing the music is. It’s so good, especially this theme. The part where all of the music ceases and it’s just that one instrument with the drums bringing it back in is my favorite part of the song hands down, idk why it just sounds so perfect t. If someone could let me know what instrument that is (or is it’s just a combination of sounds) that would be great!
ikr i have the same exact feeling. I’ve played AS twice (while admittingly not finishing the second time) and OR once which turned out amazing. The main reason I play pokemon is to build a team and see the scenery

They really nailed it on these battle themes! The only ones I don't like are the Gym Leader and Elite Four. The rest are pure gold imo.

They really did blow me away with this soundtrack, and considering that 3rd gen was my introduction to the pokemon series it does leave a huge impact for me.

I feel like of all the Pokémon themes out there, this one capture the pure joy of playing Pokémon the best. I love almost every other theme in this series, but in my opinion this is the greatest.
Every time this comes on, I always feel like battling my heart out while grinning from ear to ear, regardless of whether I win or lose.
I love the rivalry between Brenden and May, because they are just best friends. Most rivals in the franchise are always trying get ahead of the other and always want to be better than you. May is motivational, she is always caring and trying to help Brenden to be the best, as friends should do.
My band director and a few others teamed up to turn this into sheet music, since he grew up playing pokémon.

Even if they were more like best friends than rivals (Wally was like your true rival), they’re my favorite friendly rivals, and the chemistry and bond they have is just- adorable. The fact that they have such different personalities is a cool touch. May being air-headed, ditzy, sweet and out-going, while Brendan is laid-back, friendly, easily flustered at times and he even comes off as cocky at first, but ends up becoming a caring best friend.

Pokemon Emerald was one of the first game I played and thought everything in oras was waay better, especially the music. But the exclusion of the battle frontier REAAALLY made me mad. I can see why people prefer the original. But then again they added megas, so thats an automatic plus

@@krimorant The crappy gba catrige is what made the song good. Hearing good music on older hard were like this is always super impressive and much more difficult (stuff like duck tails or ending them to super Mario land).
I don't think the oras theme is particularly bad, but it lacks *identity* - The sounds are all very stock. Not to say there aren't massive highlights like 0:52, but your not being fair to the og gba titles.
(I haven't played either of these games, a friend recommended me this song and I thought it was good, so for all I know the rest of ost to either game is amazing or crappy)

My ONLY complaint about this theme is that the riff that should be at 0:10 isn't there, and it kinda hurts me because that's when you know the chorus was coming, that's when you know the battle had started. Idk maybe it was just '03 kicking me in the face. I do love this theme and its instrumentation though. Its music never disappointed me.

Because the very same riff that's missing at 0:10 is the main melody (or rather the first few notes) of the Encounter Rival theme (overworld theme when Brendan/May show up). Not only did it make thematic sense but also musical sense. And it makes me sad to see it gone too 😔

Genuinely the only battle theme I can't find a better remix of. This theme perfectly encapsulates the excitement and intensity of a rival battle.
This theme for me will forever be associated more with the Battle Maison than the rival fights, since that's what I had the music there set to.

I remember playing OR for the first time, and I was almost in tears when I heard the intro music, it was one of my favorites, and then when I got into that first rival battle, and I heard this song, nothing could beat it or that game. There are a lot of great trainer battle themes, Cynthia, Red, the original Blue theme, but this one just always stuck with me.

Imo, I easily think that this is the best rival song ever. The song perfectly portrays the excitement of the battle, while also at the same time saying that this is still your rival, so don't just go easy on them. But even besides what its trying to show, the song is just🔥 anyway so there's that.

Now I know Pokémon Brick Bronze wasn’t a mainline game, but it is technically the first Pokémon game I ever played. It wasn’t made officially by Nintendo but I still got nostalgia from it. Glad it used themes from oras, because now whenever I hear this I have happy memories.

Yeah I can kind of agree with this stuff now. At the time of my first comment i just got the game, and was still caught up in all the hype, but looking at it now, all it really added were new megas, the dexnav, and the delta episode
+goldber516 I disagree. X and Y sure they where decent games, but to me they felt like they took a "few" big steps forward and at the same time took "many" small steps back. Mega Evolutions are awesome, the online and new competitive features are great, and the visual presentation is really good, and yes the few Pokemon they introduced are actually well designed ... but everything else is lacking imo. The plot and villainous team are huge downgrades from B/W. The game is way too easy. There is too much grasping for nostalgia (Gen 1 stuff is thrown everyone, Legendary Birds/Mewtwo for no reason, Gen 1 starters, 2 ME for Charizard, Gen 1 Pokemon everywhere, many parallels to the Red/Blue, a Snorlax blocking your way needed a musical item to progress through ... the game doesn't seem to stand on its own b/c of this), the rivals are boring, the gym leaders have no personality (remember in Gen. 5 when they where actually part of the story and felt fleshed out?) and the post-game practically doesn't exist. I may be in the minority, but I loved gen.5. To me those games felt fresh, different, and new - something I look for in each new generation of Pokemon. With X and Y nothing really grasped me. It looked nice, and was fun but it felt like more of the same and not fresh at all.
