This one's been a long time coming... Ever since my early days of UA-cam I've always toyed with the thought of a 3rd gen medley. I guess the urge finally reached a critical level last year when I decided to finally give it a shot.
Ever since I played it for the first time, Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire have held a special place in my heart as one of the most enjoyable games I've played, due in large part to the incredible soundtrack. I think most of us would agree that the remakes fell flat when it came to capturing the feels of the original, so I made it my mission with this medley to do just that: not only to capture the spirit of the originals, but to add to them in a tasteful way that respects the vision of each song, as well as attempting to tie them together in one cohesive piece of music.
No aspect of the arrangements was overlooked, from each roaring trumpet line to each background synthesizer, which I spent excessive amounts of time trying to perfect. I sincerely hope that I did the soundtrack justice and I hope you enjoy this little journey through the world of Hoenn as much as I did making it.
A huge thanks to all the guest artists who made this project possible, with a notable mention to Marc Papeghin on the brass, the only person I could possibly imagine to do the infamous trumpet parts justice. Please check them out below:
Marc Papeghin - trumpet, french horn: / marcpapeghin
Kristin Naigus - flute: / fieldofreeds
Doug Perry - vibraphone: / dougdrumultimaperry
RichaadEB - guitar: / richaadeb
Insaneintherainmusic - saxophone: / insaneintherainmusic
Dian Ollison - vocals: / @a9y
Tegan Gallilee-Lang - vocals: / teganbrie
(EDIT: Since lots of people are asking, the drums were sequenced with the help of Superior Drummer; no one performed them!)

Its 2003, a cool breeze is blowing, the sun is shining, theres one more month left of school and I'm about to have the best summer ever
Littleroot Town hits so hard with that feeling of "I'm coming home"
Although i prefer Kanto and Sinnoh as regions and games, no starter village will ever feel more like coming home then littleroot town
Absolutely, the game that started my tradition of visiting home after every Gym.
He didn't have to go that hard on the trumpets.
But he did.
He did that for us.
A blessing, that is.
This comment made my day ahahahahahahahhaha
The brass is a great touch
It's Hoenn, it's an amazing touch
I know that's why it kicks so much ass!
We all know what the gameboy sounds like...
But this is how we remember it..
Damn, Im gonna have to replay my alpha saphire again.

I remember doing little chores for my dad and then he gave me a little bit of money, so I could save up for when Pokémon Ruby released. He made sure I had just enough on the release date. He tought me that you have to work for the things you really want. I also remember going to the store with him to buy the game and playing it and try to explain him everything that happened. He did not understand a thing of it, but he tried to remember the names of all the Pokémon. So sometimes he asked: 'did you're Chikorita already evolved?' Even tho he did not have a clue what that meant, he did it for me... My dad passed away last year due to cancer. Listening to this medly made me cry, because I am thinking about those times. Thinking about how well my dad raised me, and reliving those memories. The nostalgy is real... Thanks for making this video guys... ❤
You made me get the feels ;_;
Very sorry for your loss but love how you learned a valuable lesson from your dad
Your dad was the best ! No ! I'm not crying :'(
What a lesson your father taught you. Play through Ruby one more time for him!
Reading your comment while listening to the video makes it even more sad😢
But...Chikorita is gen 2…
I'm just joking, I'm crying now...
Hearing Littleroot Town's theme hit me with this incredible wave of emotion. I remember being so excited when my dad took me to GameStop to pick up Pokemon Ruby. It was a used copy and I booted it up. The guy before me had so many hours played and 7 year old me was wow'd at all his legendaries (in retrospect they were most definitely hacked but I didn't even know what hacks were at the time). I walked around on his save file a bit before ultimately starting my game. I felt a bit bad deleting all that progress, but I knew I had to experience the game for myself. Sometimes I still think about how many hours of memories are stored on those carts. Thanks for helping me remember what wonderful memories this game gave me.
It's amazing that everyone has their own unique memories associated with these games. Grateful that this video could help you recall yours - thanks for sharing :)
To those bright people who made emulators and roms of these games, thank you. Without you, kids with no money wouldn't able to experience such games :"
No trumpets were neglected in the making of this medley
But the same cannot be said for the French horn
Neglected compared to all the flute sections

Now I play this video every night so my 3yr daughter go to sleep, she obviously doesn't know what it is but asks for me to put it specifically. I'm just extremely happy to see her enjoy something that brings me so many memories.

My first pokemon game was shappire the very first version
Still has the best ost of all time for me😂
Still the case in 2024. RSE was my first gen and I still play it on my phone from time to time.
The thing about the RSE soundtrack that sets it apart from all the other pokemon soundtracks, is that it seemed like they were having so much fun. Up to this point in time
-you moved to a new place, so everything was a brand new adventure
-your rival was actually your friend
-the champion was a non-threatening mentor
-your dad was a gym leader, so it seemed like you were a part of the league community
It almost seemed like the world wasn't out to get you, of course, until Maxie or Archie appeared. Even then, I'd argue they're themes are in the top 2, dare I say, it's not 2.
My personal favorites are 3 and 8 when it comes to music
I think a lot of that came from the actual shift to Instrument samples/synths and not just the GB audio channels. They went all out with brass & fanfares when the Anime variations of the Gen 1 & 2 themes were fully orchestrated but focused mostly on strings and guitar. Hoenn said "we've got brass now and by god, we're gonna use it"
Yeah...Maxie and archie are definitely not threatening enough to ruin the whole...nerf warfare theme.
The dad part was great though. Just wish he didn't become immediately irrelevant.
Well said.
Bro, when Littleroot Town came on.... The nostalgia hit me like a moving truck.

I grew up poor. My first ever game system I owned all on my own that I got as a birthday gift was a black GameBoy Advanced SP at 11 years old back in 2004. My grandpa sent me a Disney Princess Walmart gift card for my 12th birthday in 2005 and I knew what I had to do. I marched into Walmart with my head held high and asked the electronics clerk to open the video game case. I grabbed Emerald and walked with him back to checkout and I was never the same after that. Emerald helped me through so many rough times. My Sceptile TreeTree and I went to the very top together and I will forever cherish him. This medley makes me immensely happy in ways nothing else can. You have created a masterpiece.

Seriously, I thought I was alone in thinking that the remakes didn't capture what made the original OST so great. You on the other hand, have managed to breathe new life into these tracks while also holding true to all the nostalgic musical tidbits.
Thank you for doing Gen 3's music justice.
The remakes didn't make me cry. This did and the original does (especially the credits btw, I hope someday someone makes a decent version)

It's ok, I also cried. The nostalgia captured here is too powerful.
This is one way that I think HGSS really knocked it out of the park. Instead of remaking the music with newer samples and without hardware restrictions like ORAS did, HGSS reimagined the soundtrack. That, in my opinion is what an official remake of a game should do. ORAS' soundtrack is still great though.

Thank you!

I love rustboro town theme 😍
Only thing great theme missing is Mt. Pyre

This is the only video I've found that satisfies my need for a solid Pokemon theme remake. It's not just another "metal cover", but an incredibly faithful tribute that goes above and beyond the original. Truly a musical masterpiece! Please make more :)
Watch pokemon medley by fredde gredde, it made me cry...
Seriously. For it to be such a large franchise, the world is seriously lacking in good Pokemon music remakes. Not to turn this into a shout out, but 88bitmusic did a pretty decent cover of the Red and Blue OST. (btw, he doesn't do 88-bit music)
Insaneintherain? Jazz
Exactly. Congratulation for all.
I'm literally crying. This brought me back to when i was a little gremlin playing Pokemon on the couch. Thank you ❤
Battle music gave that rush and the chills. You nailed it all broo!
Crazy that no matter how much time passes, My love for gen 3 pokemon never fades
Best gen
Still the best gen for me. No one will ever take my love for gen 3 away
Definitely the one I played the most as a kid. Emerald was an amazing game with a badass soundtrack.
SAME! Gimme that good Surskit friend :3 Such an iconic generation!
Same here
Gen 3 was like my favourite era of pokemon
Was my first pokemon game during my childhood
Now 23, still my favourite time of my life
Takes me back to the Summer of '05. My 7-year-old self was out playing with a ball when I noticed a boy from my class at school sitting on a curb playing his Gameboy Advance. Curiosity got the better of me as I approached and asked what he was playing. The warm summer's breeze rustling my short hair, I was introduced there and then to the franchise which would create countless memories and change my life forever.
What game was he playing?
This unblocked something in my head and now I can feel a deeper level of happiness.
11:45 to 12:29 is amazing, that build up into the beautiful route 110 theme. You nailed that perfectly.
Dr. Pez used Nostalgia. Critical Hit! It's Super Effective!

When he hit that Littleroot Town, 😢😢
My favourate theme music is Little root too
the one anthem to unite millennials and zoomers
ify huhu
da hell I just cried with the first note of littleroot town
I have just discovered this video and currently about 8 minutes in, but this has become one of my favorite videos on UA-cam already. Thank you very much for all the efforts.
2024 and still a masterpiece.
STOP BEING SO GOOD UGH
This is seriously impressive, mate. Gen 3 is my favorite of all the games and soundtracks, so this was a treat to listen to. Thanks for having me along for a part of it!!!
17.4/10 - its a mastapiece
RichaadEB agreed
From the man himself
Gen 3= BEST GEN
7.8 / 10.
Too many trumpets.
20/10
Strangely, this medley perfectly encapsulates what all these songs sounded like to me as a kid playing Emerald.
Pokemon xd have this kind of sound quality
This is basically the soundtrack to my childhood. Between this gen and the original spyro trilogy, there is always ambient music from one of them playing in my head at all times to this day. Fall sounds like the autumn plains. The house i grew up in still sounds like littleroot.
He missed the best song in the game. Ss Anne marine museum
@@NeoSmoove Nah, you mean Route 111 in the sandstorm. That track absolutely slaps. Lol
@@NightmareShadows13 Don’t get me wrong, this is superb, but he missed most of the best tracks: Verdanturf, Rt 113 (falling ash), Elite 4 and Champion battle music, Underwater sea floor, Sootopolis city. However I was pleasantly surprised by his inclusion of Fortree city
im literally crying and screaming and shitting my pants this is so good
dude so same
every one of us dude
omg truly me
Do all that, without the shittin' bro. keep it together. suck it back in!
this is so good it makes me teary eyed.. this music really tells you and will make you remember the adventures and feelings you get into the game.. SPECIALLY the transitions of the music to the next is so good!!!
all i could say is THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR MAKING ME REMEMBER THOSE YEARS I AM GENUINELY HAPPY and just playing around on my gameboy advance.
Yes! Nice comment thanks too :)
Music that reminds everyone of us...
...that we're not kids anymore...
...but yeah, you may want to experience being kid again and just play, right?
yayyyyy 28yo here and so many memories of that !
I'm Japanese.
Thank you.
I remember my childhood.
I love Pokémon and your music.
ありがとう! Arigato!
It’s amazing how music and video games can bring people together even those from other cultures
@@nitronikolai Actually, *WE* are the other culture. Pokémon is from Japan.
@@mparagames Yes, we all know that, which is why he didn't need to reiterate it.
@@EngiHvergi6097 By the way NitroNicku777 was referring to the other person, it seemed lIke he didn't know that.
Yo what the fuck does arigato mean breh we don't speak nihonjin here
This is so so beautiful, literally cried. Felt so much emotions and I just have no words to express how happy I felt listening to this
One week ago, me and my two brothers were in a retro game store. By some miracle they had a Pokemon Ruby setting in there, and I couldn't believe it. I had played the remakes and loved them, but was always interested in the originals, and came close to buying them multiple times. While debating on what to do, my brother just buys it for me as a gift. I just beat the game, and got a little emotional. The brother who got me that game, his first gen was 3, Pokemon Sapphire. So beating this now makes me a little emotional. Amazing medley, one of the best videos on the internet. Great work, man.
I definitely understand what gen 3 meant for your brother as a child. I've discovered this masterpiece medley something like 3 years ago and still coming back here to chill, warm up my heart and focus on beautiful things
@@lorenzosarto2929 That's cool to hear, I have come to this video video a lot to chill as well
It scares me that someone would dislike this masterpiece.
Probably Courtney.
@@jeffreygao3956 or, if you get the "blue" games, Shelly/Matt.
see now that's why they removed the dislike button I can get on board with this now
@@arcsinjesse We'll never know if they removed their dislikes after actually listening to it now though
@@Skystrike70 actually its because of most disliked video compilation, one of them is pokemon announcement
You used TRUMPET! It's super effective!
And french horn :3
Underrated comment
Lage Legend Yes! French horn gives such an epic and delicious sound!
As Todd Howard would say. It just works
A critical hit!
Coming back here like 2-3 times a year and always have some small tearies in my eyes. This soundtrack is just so beatiful, and the cover/compsition is so well executed.
Thank you :)
It's that time again :3
Hearing this is like hearing my childhood back. I'm in tears rn...
I cannot overstate how good I think this is. Nostalgia aside, speaking as a musician, the arrangement is OUTSTANDING and you absolutely succeeded in your objective to honour the feeling of the source material. I have no idea how many times I have listened to this over the last few days. If you have a patreon or SoundCloud or something, I would gladly donate something for the immense value I've got out of this, and will continue to do so for a long time.
Amazing work, can't wait to see what you do next. Love it.
i would donate too
I love how he went so hard on the french horn just like the actual games did. He didn't have to, but he did for us. THIS is what I wanted ORAS to sound like, and it makes me cry every time I listen to this, as this is EXACTLY how I remember the original GBA games sounding, even if it's not actually how i sounded in the slightest.
Shame that they kinda subverted the trumpets in the ORAS
AGREED 💯
@@deltacream Agreed, but admittedly most of those tracks are good as well with some few exceptions. Not as good as this medley version or original, but still good.
I could listen to this a thousand times and not get tired of your talent
Brother, I still dream of the day you release that B&W medley. Your videos are The Good Stuff for us metalhead nostalgia junkies. Keep it up.
Ngl this sounds like what would play during the end credits of your life when it flashes before your eyes one final time
Of all the, "Haha, relatable" comments I've screencaped, this one resonates with me the most. A toast to you.
that's a huge same, i think it's the instruments themselves
Great Idea, I will have them play this at my funeral…
Well said, perfectly describes how one feels while witnessing this masterpiece
