"If you're looking for Wally, I'm afraid he's gone. After he lost to you in Mauville, he said he had to train more, and we haven't seen him since. It must be his Pokemon that have lit such a fire in that boy and given him so much hope to live for..." This quote alone is why Wally is one of my favorite rivals in the Pokemon series.
wally is probably in top 3 rivals because he doesnt fight you a lot, so this joke of a kid comes back and is actually hard to fight in the end. he becomes cool.
@@OverusedBruhSFX My Mega Evolved Blaziken one-shot 2 of his pokemon, and only took 2 hits on another one because it endured it/had sturdy, unless I misremember. I actually felt bad. The only one to put up a fight was Gallade, took 2 Air Cutters, and it'd take 3 had my Pelliper not had Rocky Helmet.
Let's not forget Wally is sick, and he started his journey sick, and still he reached the victory road with all his insecurities and struggles. The true champion.
Wally was never in the way of your journey. You was in HIS way. You helped him to catch his first Pokémon and you helped him to start his journey. Now... the finale of his journey was taking you down. I'm gonna be honest... this fight should've had two outcomes: You beat Wally: *Wally is panting, somewhat breathless from the spectacular final battle. He thanks you and congratulates you before leaving, somewhat teary eyed.* Wally beat you: *Wally is trembing, tears dribbling down his face, a big grin appearing on his face. He jumps up and down in joy, thanking you for helping him out. He dashes to hug you before you see him off, he races off ahead and you wonder about how far he'll go. The first Pokémon in your party has 1 HP despite having just been fainted.*
I forget when (I think it’s his ORAS finale) at some point he faces you surrounded by red spider lilies… which happen to be associated with “final goodbyes” in japan… 😔
"So we've got this character, you help him catch his first pokemon, and he's cute and stuff, and he's kinda easy. You fight him in Victory Road, and it's all great." "Sir, should I make his theme metal?" "Ricky, you goddamn genius"
***** you were the one who changed him since the start Wally was afraid of pokemon thats why he threw his pokeball like he was drunk. But when you beat him at Mauville City he realized he shoudn't be afraid of pokemon. Why? Because you never were afraid of pokemon so he didn't want to be left out. P.S this Wally is better, but that's my opinion.
I felt bad that I was so overleveled and pummeled Wally, but then I began thinking that that was the point. Wally knew he didn't stand a chance against you, but he was determined to do his best anyway. He needed to know that he got strong enough to battle somebody like you.
It's annoying though. I wanted a tough battle. In the Mauville battle I had a level 21 Kirlia that rekt his level 17 Ralts, and that was just one of my Pokémon, so I presumed that was the point, but in Victory Road I heard this music, thought about the area and cutscene, and thought the point was that he'd matured and was finally a powerful trainer. I one hit KO'd all of his Pokémon, and was annoyed because I really wanted a tough fight.
@@goli8699 think about what happens when rivals run up to you, your character stops completely and you know you're about to fight the rival. The same thing happens here except you're the one who walks up to him.
@@isthisagoodusername9764 oh fuc- *Turn into a rival* Hello this is a good username it nice to see you in this reply section also while we at it let battle I wanna let you know how stronger I got!
That's how most rivalries are supposed to work, isn't it?? Or are you talking about the fact where we have more of the rival characters' characteristics here
I felt kinda bad for winning aganist Zinnia as her lore and theme were amazing and you legit get a ripped mega rayquaza that slaughters her team easily. Her team should have been higher levelled.
It's weird, prior to the third gym, he still only had Ralts at a low level, and usually you smoke him when he asks to battle you. You were already ahead of him by a mile at that point as normally you have your team where you want it to be. You don't see him for basically the rest of the main story. You're taking care of Team Aqua/Magma and the other gyms as you normally would. Then before you get to the Elite Four, there he is. Not only did he just build up a damn decent team. He did all of that before your character did. If you decided to look at the pedestals at the gym, you'd see that Wally is one of the certified trainers, along with you when you won. But yet none of the leaders mentioned Wally at all even though he beat them. He was one step ahead of you the entire time. He was taking care of business while you were focusing on other things. But even at the end when he battled you again, he know he didn't stand a chance because of everything you were doing, he knew you were stronger, but he still wanted to try. Honestly he had one of the best character developments in any Pokemon game, to the point where you didn't even want to beat him but you had to. The uplifting music just made the beating you put on him feel bitter because at that point you wanted him to succeed but you had to put a halt to it Hell it makes me wonder why he wasn't there when you beat Steven, just Birch and your rival.
TailsPrower07 actually I believe some NPC trainer mentions wally after you beat him in victory road saying something along the lines of, some young trainer has been on a tear lately, and you’re left to assume he’s talking about Wally
@Wiley Midura The flowers that are in the room where you battle Wally in Victory Road can also be considered a symbol of Wally's character development. His old self, the "ill child who can't have a journey of his own and is always one step behind you" is metaphorically dead because he's no longer that boy, he has grown strong and self-confident and wants to prove his strength to you. Regardless of how the battle will end, Wally has already won, because he has defeated all of his fears and has gone beyond his limits. His old self died and he was reborn. This is why this theme doesn't start playing as soon as you talk to him in Victory Road but only later, when his expression changes from his usual shy, cute one to a more confident face. The theme playing right before also sounds like a sort of 'goodbye' music because you're saying final goodbyes to Wally's old self and welcoming his new one (aka the one who has this battle theme).
@Wiley Midura I've always thought that Wally dying from his illness is very unlikely. His symptoms seem to clear up in fresh air, pointing to his illness being asthma (acute bronchitis is another possibility, but it wouldn't be something Wally has had for what's implied to be his entire life). Asthma, correct me if I'm wrong, isn't going to kill you unless you have an asthma attack.
ORAS for life, I realize that statement makes sound a total novice when it comes to the franchise but AS is the first pokemon game that I genuinely enjoyed all the way through completion. The characters, the pokemon, the music, the freaking pokemon fashion show 😆. I tried pokemon white on my cousin’s ds back in the day but never got into it, I might go back and play it if I manage to find another 3DS that isn’t listed at almost a thousand dollars.
I remember checking the "buzznav" for no reason. Reporter: "A young trainer has been collecting badges like crazy, already sitting at six." I thought to myself "cool, I'm in the news." Then they mention Wally, and I go "Wait, excuse me? Wally's gotten that far?" as i had just moments ago left the gym. Then in the "Kyogre is stopped" cutscene I was surprised he got to Victory Road before I even had the chance to challenge the 8th gym. It felt so anime when I fought him because the first thought that came to my head when the battle started was "He's really matured since last time." Well done, Gamefreak.
No. Your innocent little connaroll is long gone. Wally is now a badass who doesn’t put up with anyone’s bullshit. He takes names, kicks ass, and fucks bitches.
Years later, still bangs. I love how Wally's team post game is strong af. Started as a trainer afraid, and weak with ralts but he grew. Much much respect for -Game Freak- the writers for giving Wally the respect he deserves.
I'm kinda just now noticing how Hop is the opposite of Wally Wally begins insecure but becomes confident over time Hop begins confident but becomes insecure over time
That’s what makes both of them some of the best rivals, they have actual character development and act very human to the point where during your final battle with them you can’t help but feel sad
Imagine if after beating Steven, Wally suddenly bursts through the doors demanding a fight because you're the only trainer left he has to defeat in order to become champion. Wally: ''Steven i hav-- wh-whats going on here? What are you (the player) doing here? Wait! Don't tell me...'' Steven: "Hmm it seems you two know each other. Well then champion, your first challenger has arrived. May the best trainer win!'' Wally: "Champion. So it's true then... Did we come this far only to lose in the end...?" *suddenly Wallys Gallade bursts out of his pokeball, visibly furious that his best friend would do this to him, giving up after everything they had endured* Gallade: "Gall, Gallade!!!" Wally: "...You're right. I made a promise to you when you were just a Ralts, that i would never give up. And i intend to keep that promise. (the players name) i challenge you for the title of champion, FOR MY RALTS!'' And then 0:00
actually, thats a great idea. i have to keep that in mind in case i ever return to my idea of remaking the specialeditions(i was at yellow when the gba romhacking tool made me quit with random broken roms it spit out).
People talk about how Wally has grown throughout the game and how good this theme is but I see nobody talking about how bloody gorgeous the stage is where you fight him! All the flowers that surround the both of ya paired with the music just makes it all so much better.
I think Wally is by far the most under rated rival. He starts as a sickly shy young boy who wanted a Pokemon as a friend. But as time past he started to look up to the player aka *YOU!* He made it his goal to catch up to you, to be called your rival. To earn your respect, his fight at victory road was proof of how far he had come. Battling him again revealed something he had gained, Determination! Even if he was completely out matched by you he gave it his all. I feel his determination has drove him to become stronger after that lose. Now he stands with legends like Red and Cynthia at the battle tree. I happily call Wally my rival, hell I call him my equal! his will to become stronger will let him surpass the strongest trainers in the world!
There's also the underlying story that his adventure with his pokemon, his fight to become stronger than you, helped him stop being so sickly, allowing him to experience life to the fullest.
After meeting Wally’s ancestor, Beni, in PL:A, seeing the fact that he was a highly-skilled ninja under the guise of an innocent barkeep was a very nice parallel to Wally’s development in his own games.
@@leovl1697 If you talk to him after the whole situation with Dialga/Palkia and the red chain, he says he might move to a place with a more agreeable climate, wich is most likely Hoenn.
I really like what they did for Wally in this remake... especially in Victory Road. I expected to battle him in the beginning like in the original but he didn't show up at all. I was like "No, we can't just go trough the entire cave without battling Wally!" Then he shows up at the end. With this track. Was way more epic and satisfying of a victory. Instead of being just an obstacle in Victory Road, he's now the very end of it, the final challenge before the Elite Four. Thank you Game Freak, that made the whole fight 10x better, even if the only things that were really changed were better timing and kickass theme, it made all the difference.

+mrawesome35000vr No, that couldn't be possible. N spent most of his childhood in the castle and was raised with pokemon since he was a kid. Wally is pretty similar to N, but in terms of backstory it makes no sense.
Player: I will defeat you without using my father’s Pokémon! Wally: it’s YOURS! Your Pokémon, not his! *ralts lands crit confusion and faints player’s Pokémon* Player: *left with no choice but to send out the Pokémon Norman supposedly gave them. Flashbacks* (Idk why this popped into my head)
Just fought him actually, which is why I decided to come here after hearing his music for the first time. Doing a basic Nuzlocke, and didn't have any trouble apart from a minor heart attack when he nearly one shot my Blaziken.
I've seen some people say that the instrumentation of this track is unfitting or doesn't communicate anything about Wally's character, and I just wanna go on record as saying that I disagree entirely. I was actually grinning like an idiot the first time I heard that music, because it sets out to be nothing more than a theme befitting one of the most badass Pokemon Trainers in the series - and in that moment, I realized that's exactly what Wally is. You've watched him grow from a frail and timid child out of his depth when it comes to Pokemon training to a final challenge completely worthy of the proving grounds of the entire Pokemon League, and not only does this fail to detract from his badassery at all, it actively enhances it. What does the music say about Wally as a character? Why, it says that he's _earned_ dueling you on an ethereal sunlit plain as electric guitars wail in the background - and I, for one, can't help but agree.
+ZorotheGallade What?! Wally means Business?! Taan taaan taan taaan para para parappappa pa pa papaaaaa papa papaaaa pa pa appppaaa pa paaaapaaaa(I FEEL GOOOOOOOD)
+Yining T. (Pecola) Sometime after you beat Norman, Wally's name starts showing up on all the gym statues, and Buzznav starts talking about a trainer you might initially think is yourself...
Before Victory Road: "You're my friend, I look up to you so much! I know I'm not the greatest, but can we please battle?" During/After Victory Road: *"YOU'RE MY BITCH NOW."*
I think this track represents the culmination of Walley's development. He started as an insecure boy, who ha his internal doubts, who wanted to be "be something else", to escape from his current state. Then he meets you. He concludes that you are a strong trainer across the adventure over Hoenn. He sees you as an idol, as model to follow. And this track, full with swag and potency, shows how he is becoming more like you, like the player. Now, he has found his own path. Beautiful, isn't it?.
Honestly when I first played this game and Wally was still in in it was so happy but I didn’t cry Fast forward to the exit of the cave in victory road where Wally would have his final battle with you in the original Ruby,Sapphire and Emerald... He wasn’t there so I was shocked thinking they scrapped it but then I exited the cave... That beautiful room with flowers everywhere and petals falling on the screen... There was no music so I was thinking... “Why would GameFreak add a random new room with no music?” Then I continued to then end of the room and then... Wally... He was there, waiting to have our final showdown... Then... The music comes on and Wally gives the best speech I’ve ever heard in my life... Then the battle commenced with the same music still playing... I saw that he has a key stone and then it hit me... THE RALTS!!! Both of Ralts’s forms received a mega evolution( Gallade and Gardevoir) Then he sends out Gallade... It mega evolves... And after an intense battle... I had to be victorious in the end... Ralts suits Wally so much because Ralts is not a very strong Pokemon! It starts out weak(Like Wally in the beginning of his adventure) But then grows strong with a lot of practice which in my opinion , represents Wally’s MASSIVE confidence boost that he gained thanks to us for helping him catch his very first Pokemon... Wally shall forever Remain the best rival ever...
The way his eyes changed..... I remember the old Wally. The young and naive look to his eyes, full of hope but not sure. I saw him catch his first Pokemon, how happy he was. But we both went on to continue our journey. Along the way I remember the Pokemon fight we had, how resolved he was to get better after I won. And I went to each gym, won every badge handily, only to see Wally was one step ahead. And once I got to Victory road, I saw Wally again. Waiting. We greeted each others like close friends, but when he challenged me to another Pokemon fight... The steely look to his eyes told me this wasnt the young meek kid anymore. This was a trainer who was strong. And as we sent out our first Pokemon I couldnt help but smile, but that smile faded as I felt my very insides tell me.. "Take. This. Seriously." And from there I knew. Steven, the gym leaders, the trails that I took for granted. Wally was the wake up call. Without a word I knew he was going to make sure i was ready, cause in my way. Was my true rival and friend. I remember the way his eyes changed. And I know how he was my closest friend.

- One of the most epic battle stages on all Pokémon history - This song drops hard at every second it passes. - Wally transforms his Gallade into Mega-Gallade as a symbol of his development not just as a trainer, but as a confident man. - He's ready to show you how much he prepared for this moment and how much he grown across his journey. A Swellow buffed with supertraining who knows Brave Bird: "and that's when I punch him".
I used Mega Gardevoir against his Mega Gallade to even the odds. Not trying to cheat because she's a Psychic Fairy, but because I'm making it honorable for the poor kid.
Wallys whole deal is he has come a long long way, but hes still not as good as you. The lore behind what happens after the game is that having bested Hoens best as the champion you travel to the elite fighting tower in search of more worthy opponents. In US&UM Wally has followed the protagonists footsteps and took to the battle tower among st challangers to become like the Pokemon legendary trainers such as red and blue.
I loved the original gen 3 but I always felt that wally was kinda.... underwhelming. when the remakes fleshed him out as a character I grew to like him a lot better. and then after victory road we get this masterpiece. even though I beat his team, Wally showed us the meaning of what it is to be a trainer. he overcame impossible odds with his sickness and traveled an entire region battling, training, braving the ash that would be fatal for him on the ash path. the kid deserved a ripping theme. if anything this immortalized him. any time we see wally we will think of this, and if he ever appears in a future game, thus has to be his theme.
Buster Tornado I think the trailer meant when you become a champion you can take on the tree. It says Alolan Champions anyway. On top of that, 80% of the Battle Tree trainers are the generic trainers.
Well , think about it this way. You can only battle the champions (I'm pretty sure) , because I highly doubt that any average trainer would be in there with his top percentage rattata. So why can you battle Wally?
That's what I meant by this post xD Anyways, why would you have to become champion of your region first if you're from Alola, where everybody else can just stroll in free? Sounds kinda dumb tbh.
i miss my first time playing oras, especially how i used to look at all the theories lol but out of everything i remember that battle the most, the nostalgia cant be replaced
Just a reminder This was Wally's last team in the game as the most difficult battle Mega gallade: near unwallable physical attacker Magnezone: absurdly tanky special attacker Roserade: decently fast special attacker Azumarill: hugely powerful physical threat with good setup Talonflame: the unstoppable king of flying types for the gen GARCHOMP: FUCKING GARCHOMP All that's keeping Wally from total annihilation...is the programmers making sure we can actually win Edit: ok, to clarify, player input can make a game difficult or not, I'm saying the developers clearly tried to make Wally as hard as possible within their own rules, like no legendaries Of course, not everyone plays fair to the ai Edit 2: can you all just put your pride on the shelf and acknowledge the difficulty there without bragging how you beat him easily because, shocker, it's a human being playing against an AI, seriously, I'm trying to start a discussion and all you want to say is how you cheesed him with surf and legendaries.
Me with my 6 Lvl 1 Endeavor Focus Sash Rattatas: *OBSERVE* Ok my team is Swampert, Talonflame, Gardevoir, Blaziken, M-Salamence and Hydreigon, I didn't want to use legendaries and I still won
Iván Zegarra That’s not really impressive when you consider M-Salamence was arguably the 2nd strongest Pokemon EVER, tying with the primals and only behind mega ray in terms of competitive viability.
played this during the battle with beni in legends arceus. noticed a bunch of parallels between this fight and his besides the obvious family resemblance (gardevoir/gallade on his team, battle with him is a bit of a plot twist, takes place at what is essentially hisui’s victory road)

I don’t think there’s any true way to express how much I ADORE this theme. It’s BY FAR my favourite Pokemon theme, as it shows how the weak can easily come out strong. Wally was someone small and timid, and when we see him during victory road, we learn how much he’s grown with the Ralts he caught. For those who may not have noticed, this is a electric guitar remix of Wally’s encounter theme, where it was played with more acoustic instruments. When I heard this theme, I immediately teared up, as Wally has inspired many kids that they can easily become strong if they worked for it. The sudden music change showed how sudden Wally changed as a character, and how inspirational he is for kids, which is why I love this theme to death, nothing will change my mind
I looked up to this boy. When I as little, I was the shy loner who was really frail. I thought at the beginning, "hey I like this kid. He's like me!" Now I am super happy that he's this awesome. Sort of a beacon of hope. And yeah, his theme is fucking amazing.
Remember, to get this far he beat all the gym leaders, which means that if he had beaten you he could have become champion. I now feel terrible for destroying him with, Rayquaza, Groudon, Kyogre, Zygaurd (is that how you spell it?), Xerneas, and Yveltal.
I used Gardevoir against his Gallade in this battle, it's not a fair fight, per se, since she's a Psychic/Fairy, but it even the odds of his determination.
I absolutely adore the symbolism and lore that goes behind Wally character and battle. You see, the flowers that surround you in the place you meet and battle Wally are _Lycoris radiata_ or _Red Spider Lilies_. The flowers are nicknamed the corpse flower and the resurrection flower and have three associations one of which is death due to their tendency to bloom near cemeteries during autumn (the season where all plants "die"). Because of this, these flowers are used during funerals in Japan. At the beginning of autumn, Buddhists would plant these flowers at the graves of their ancestors as a tribute and to celebrate the coming of fall. The second association of the flower is with resurrection. In the Lotus Sutra (one of the most popular and influential Mahayana sutra is in Buddhism), they are said to grow in _Diyu_ (Buddhist Hell) and they lead the dead to the next reincarnation. The last association of the flower is more of a symbol than an association. It is said that when you see someone you never meet again, these flowers will bloom along the path. Its Japanese nickname _Higanbana_ (彼岸花) means flower of _Higan_ (the shore of the _Sanzu River_ (三途の川) (a river the dead must cross into the afterlife)), flower of the afterlife in _gokuraku jyōdo_ (極楽浄土) (Buddhist Heaven in a way). Long story short, battling Wally in the field of _Red Spider Lilies_ symbolizes the death of the unconfident and weak boy you met in Petalburg and his rebirth into a confident and powerful trainer while also saying you will never see that unconfident and weak boy ever again. Pretty cool huh? Even Wally's Japanese name _Mitsuru_ (ミツル) is a reference to the act of folding one thousand origami cranes which is said to either grant one wish or provide good luck, long life, and recovery from illness or injury. His name pretty much foreshadows Wally becoming a powerful trainer despite his illness. Extra Fact: Though Zinnia's and Aster's name in English are references to _Zinnia_ (a genus of plants of the sunflower tribe within the daisy family) flowers and _Aster_ (a genus of flowering plants in the family Asteraceaea) flowers respectively, Zinnia's and Aster's Japanese names _Higana_ (ヒガナ) and _Shigana_ (シガナ) are both references to the _Red Spider Lily_ / the _Higanbana_ (彼岸花).
Anonymous??? Well that took a lot of effort to research and compile. I hope I was able to give at least some people a taste of the amount of symbolism and history that goes into these games.
Anonymous??? That actually gave me chills, considering how I was listening to the song as I read. Wally is one of my absolute favorite characters in the entire Pokemon series (besides N, of course), and I always loved him as a kid. When I reached him in this battle, I was practically tearing up from how...glorious the entire event was. Reading this, and getting more insight on the Wally character and battle as a whole, I can't help but respect GameFreak for putting so much effort into him.
Anonymous??? Love it. I really enjoy cultural symbolism snuck into or otherwise made a part of games. This pleased my nerd side. +1. Also, I just noticed the river and bridge in the battle area. Good *lord*, Gamefreak, you really took Wally seriously this time.
Echo NBD Yeah, it goes to show you how much work and effort Gamefreak puts into game characters and Pokemon even to the point of referencing mythologies, symbolisms, and lores.
The Gray Kirby Unfortunately not. All the songs are just generic Battle songs that are all slightly different than each other. I just pull this up on my phone when I want to hear it while battling.

@@hoitem6500 If I was 7 when I played ORAS, I wouldn't have understood half the game. I was a VERY stupid kid, for a VERY long time. Now, I am a smart teen
Nah. He ambush you after Victory Road and he changed his Gardevoir for Mega Gallade, so he lost a good deal of my respect for that. I took down his Mega Gallade with my Mega Gardevoir.
This is not the theme of a boy. This is the theme of a young man who spent all his time with his Pokemon, and evolved them with MAJOR love and respect. This theme is the definition of what Pokemon battling is about. To be the very best, like no-one ever was. Wally DEFINITELY loves his Pokemon as much as we do, and this theme tells us that. He's not "the best" at raising Pokemon, but he is good. If i'd give a rating to Wally's affection for his Pokemon, it be around 8-9/10. He even wields Mega Evolution, which needs a strong bond to happen. And Wally OBVIOUSLY has that key item, a strong bond between people and Pokemon. In Conclusion: ur gonna get rekt
Personally, I found the fight with Wally at the end of Victory Road to be potentially the best fight in the entire series. The fight itself, at least for me, wasn't too difficult, admittedly, but the set-up can not be surpassed. Having played RSE, you only Wally as this sickly kid who shows up twice, very shortly, then again at Victory Road, where you have a very unceremonious battle with him. In ORAS, you see Wally a bit more, and he says a lot more. He shows off that he's a super determined trainer, despite his illness. He actually beats you to every single gym after Mauville - If you check the statues inside the gym, Wally beat everyone before you. Then you go to Victory Road. You get all the way to the end, and in this amazing scenery, Wally is waiting for you. He talks to you, and suddenly, out of nowhere, this music kicks in, and the determination is REAL.
*SPOILER* his final team he ends up with at the Battle Maison has a GALE WINGS Talonflame and a Garchomp. HE HAS A FUCKING GARCHOMP! And GALE WINGS Talonflame! That's shit you see on a COMPETITIVE team. They went all out to make Wally a competitive team for an AI. Idk about movesets if they're good, but pokemon, items, and abilities are shit you see on competitive-bred pokemon: Assault Vest Huge Power Azumarill, Rough Skin Rocky Helmet Garchomp, Life Orb Gale Wings Talonflame, Air Balloon Sturdy Magnezone, he's got all the shit. This little sick kid ends up becoming, IMO, the best and possibly hardest super boss in the entire series. Yes, I did just fucking say that, and I stand by it because Wally is possibly the best rival character in the whole series.
they did this amazingly, tears!!!! showed up in my eye when this came one while you;re talking to him! they could not have done this more perfectly in order to describe how badass Wally is
Dylan Román Some people had a savegame where Wally´s Ralts was a shiny and they were like: "..................................... For fuck´s sake......."
Don't you think that it's strange that people are complaining how this doesn't sound like a Pokemon track when Ghetsis' battle theme didn't sound like one either, but people act like it's one of the most godly themes ever created?
This song and Ghetsis' song are amazing, that's for sure. I absolutely love how dark, intense, menacing, ETC, Ghetsis' theme felt, especially in Black and White 2 when they sped it up, to show how crazy Ghetsis had really become, and how far he was willing to go. He was going to kill you then and there without hesitation, he really refused to give up so easily that time around. And this theme fits Wally perfectly. He started out a weak and sickly child that couldn't do much, and let his timid Nature get the best of him. But he refused to give in, he kept trying and trying, and trained harder and harder, and before you know it, he's there facing you right before the exit of Victory Road, with a Mega Gallade and a great team. You could also see his change in character, how he became more confident and stronger, and I think this theme fits him so well because it really has that feeling of intensity, like he's fighting with so much on the line and with so much more confidence.
The theme that brought tears to my eyes while playing ORAS. My best friend in elementary school was also very frail but had guts and would never back down from a fight. Wally always reminds me of him.
How I imagine that Game Freak made this song: Well, we need to make him stand out, but how...? Maybe we should and horns and trumpets like we did with Archie and Maxie... Yeah, that sounds like a good i- Screw it, guitar solo. And thus, Wally became the best character in Pokemon.
Wallys character in general is the reason why he will always be my favorite. He started as just a small boy begining his journey, but he became stronger and became a man. This epic battle theme tells his story perfectly. the final time you battle him is the only time I feel bad winning a battle
Can I just say that I think that this Wally battle was built up so perfectly? It had been such a long time since you had last seen him when you went into Victory Road. He was such a timid kid when last you met. Then, as you make the perilous journey of Victory Road, fighting trainer after trainer, you hear tell of this kid that's going around beating everyone. At first, you might think they were talking about you, but as it goes on, you start to learn it must be... someone else. But who? And then you see him, just one step away from reaching the Pokémon League's Elite Four. The kid that you met at the start of your journey. Except he's not that meek, frail kid he was back then. Now he has the heart of a warrior, and the strength to back it up. His little Ralts that you helped him catch at the start of the game, now a Mega Gallade, the very embodiment of courage and chivalry, is a symbol Wally's own growth. This is it. This is the challenge he has anticipated since he first became a trainer, and even if you win and surpass him this day, he's prepared to give you the fight of your life.
This song basically screams epic. And honestly, it's one of the reasons that ORAS' updates made it far superior as a whole. This time, it didn't feel like "who are you?" to me like I did with RSE. It felt more like an actual character. His growth was apparent in animation, the music, everything. And then it hit me - Wally isn't MY rival. I'm HIS rival. And it was awesome to realize that after all these years of completely underestimating him. Also, I had a Mega Gardevoir just because it felt appropriate for that fight. Sure, it will one-hit his Mega Gallade, but NOTHING beat the feeling of seeing Mega Gardevoir vs Mega Gallade in a battle between two equal, but opposite, trainers. If Wally's Mega Gallade is supposed to represent his character (strong, loyal, virtuous), my Mega Gardevoir pretty much encapsulates mine - caring, compassionate, but if you mess with the people I love, I will fight back.
+zexionfan15 I teared up at the "And then it hit me - Wally isn't MY rival. I'm HIS rival." part. Nice wording mate. The story about Gardevoir and Gallade was also cool.
I actually felt inferior to him going into that battle, seeing as how my Gallade was incapable of megavolving (let's just pretend that's a word) and his was capable of doing so.
i also went up against wally with a gardevoir! it was beautiful and i couldnt have asked for better out of a remake of my first and favorite pokemon game.
I said that 10 months before you tho :P :OHHHHHHH YAH! That's a theme! :) it shows the great Wallly's passion to show you that he got better, and that theme represents you, in fact. You'e the boy's ultimate goal, and like other pokémon masters, you'e got a badass theme to fight the boy you saw progressing from the start. ^^ (Oh and i'vd got rekt by him because my pokemon were not full. M-Gallade is OP, thought.) Not the same way, but it's the same idea.
Dude! I just now finished this battle, and I honestly didn't want it to end, just because of this music! Also, the combination of the scenery and the music made it so gratifying in my opinion. I've come so far (albeit in two real-time days) with my Pokemon! My Mega Metagross vs. his Mega Gallade. A battle of the ages! It's funny, because I heard this music and I was like, "Dude! This shit is awesome! But it's totally gonna stop when the battle starts..." And much to my elated surprise, it kept playing! These games are truly just fucking awesome. Plain and simple. As if this music wasn't enough proof.
Dude I know how you feel. I walked in and I finished it with my Shiny Gallade (which I couldn't mega because of post game crap) facing his Gallade and that moment was GOD like.
This song is the best pokemon song ever in these games. When I faced Wally it was my torkoal wrecking his team and when it came to his mega gallade. My sceptile came out, this song was POWER!
As weird as it sounds, I wish Wally was champion while Steven was the fourth member of the Elite Four with only Steel type Pokemon and do the same thing as Red/Blue where Lance claimed Red champion but he really isn't, it was Gary. Steven is an excellent champion, but the twist would've been unbelievable.
***** Eh, I don't really think Wally is Champion material, honestly. As strong as he became, he just doesn't have the right spirit and attitude to be the Champion.
ThatAngryBull Actually, he does. It's just that his mega is randomized between Gallade, Altaria, and Garchomp, since he uses sets 3 and 4 for his Pokemon.
So just because Wally is a timid non cliche Rival, doesn't mean he's not one badass Pokemon Trainer who wants to prove himself...Wally has always been my all time favorite Rival/Trainer. and this music suits him in so many ways...his resolve and dedication to overcome his obstacles, I respect and Love Wally. Like if you do too ! :)
Wally and Barry are in the top 5 of highest leveled trainers, Wally caps at 85 (3 levels under Red). And Wally at 81, but he is the only AI trainer with competitive strategic team and items. From *spoilers* Gale Wings Life Orb Talonflame to Huge Power Assault Vest Azurril *spoilers end*. So yeah, the ''lame'' rivals are more powerful that the ''badass'' rivals.
As with, well, every character, Wally's best incarnation was in Special. As the region burned from Groudon and Kyogre, Norman took Wally to the Sky Pillar, and he had to make his way up on his own, training which gave a huge boost to his health, and he was the one who awoke Rayquaza.
Let this sink in for a second, all of the “special” battle tree trainers in SM are all champions, were champions at one point, or gym leaders. *HMMMMM* Why do I have a feeling Brendan isn’t top banana anymore 🤔
8 Years later and this is easily in the Top 3 songs in all of Pokemon if not just the best song. This songs is not just a song but the culmination of a journey and tells the Wally's entire story when paired alongside his battle even if you don't directly see his journey when you see his pokemon you know exactly where he got them, where and how he trained them, and how he used them to get to where he is now and it's damn beautiful and the thing is is that when Wally reappears in at the battle tree he appears there as someone that has succeeded at beat beating the champion and fulfilling his dreams

I'm gonna be honest... this fight should've had two outcomes:
You beat Wally: *Wally is panting, somewhat breathless from the spectacular final battle. He thanks you and congratulates you before leaving, somewhat teary eyed.*
Wally beat you: *Wally is trembing, tears dribbling down his face, a big grin appearing on his face. He jumps up and down in joy, thanking you for helping him out. He dashes to hug you before you see him off, he races off ahead and you wonder about how far he'll go. The first Pokémon in your party has 1 HP despite having just been fainted.*
Yeah, no shit. Sky Pillar would be similar to climbing a mountain, there's less available oxygen. Also... proud of him.

Knowing that one thay you will be able to surpass you rival...
Something something determination
I hope we see wally in future games and just maybe, he might be more challenging. and I mean pkmn trainer red challenging.
Unfortunately nobody stands a chance against you in ORAS, since it's easy as fk.
In Wally's mind, you're HIS rival. You're in HIS way of challenging the Elite 4. You're the obstacle in his story.
This applies for every other rival more than Wally. While most others just run up to you and ask you to battle, wally just stands there waiting.
Still doesn't change the fact that he's pathetically weak through the beginning to the end lamo

The uplifting music just made the beating you put on him feel bitter because at that point you wanted him to succeed but you had to put a halt to it
Hell it makes me wonder why he wasn't there when you beat Steven, just Birch and your rival.
TailsPrower07 actually I believe some NPC trainer mentions wally after you beat him in victory road saying something along the lines of, some young trainer has been on a tear lately, and you’re left to assume he’s talking about Wally
Wiley Midura yeah but iirc he was in Sun Moon?
Bro I agree with your comment if may and professor birch are there they have meet wally
Im glad they did Wally justice in ORAS.

Then in the "Kyogre is stopped" cutscene I was surprised he got to Victory Road before I even had the chance to challenge the 8th gym. It felt so anime when I fought him because the first thought that came to my head when the battle started was "He's really matured since last time." Well done, Gamefreak.

The lone Marowak lol “Aka YOU!” Makes you sound like Soulja boy
There's also the underlying story that his adventure with his pokemon, his fight to become stronger than you, helped him stop being so sickly, allowing him to experience life to the fullest.

Can I put a comment in favorites? Cause damn
Also it follows the same melody as his regular theme when you meet him earlier in the game. Just wanted to point that out.

Yes, even more beautiful if you let him follow you to the Battle Resort in Multi-Battle. My man can sweep entire teams!
Honestly when I first played this game and Wally was still in in it was so happy but I didn’t cry
Fast forward to the exit of the cave in victory road where Wally would have his final battle with you in the original Ruby,Sapphire and Emerald...
He wasn’t there so I was shocked thinking they scrapped it but then I exited the cave...
That beautiful room with flowers everywhere and petals falling on the screen...
There was no music so I was thinking...
“Why would GameFreak add a random new room with no music?”
Then I continued to then end of the room and then... Wally...
He was there, waiting to have our final showdown...
Then...
The music comes on and Wally gives the best speech I’ve ever heard in my life...
Then the battle commenced with the same music still playing...
I saw that he has a key stone and then it hit me...
THE RALTS!!!
Both of Ralts’s forms received a mega evolution( Gallade and Gardevoir)
Then he sends out Gallade...
It mega evolves...
And after an intense battle... I had to be victorious in the end...
Ralts suits Wally so much because Ralts is not a very strong Pokemon!
It starts out weak(Like Wally in the beginning of his adventure)
But then grows strong with a lot of practice which in my opinion , represents Wally’s MASSIVE confidence boost that he gained thanks to us for helping him catch his very first Pokemon...
Wally shall forever Remain the best rival ever...
Ralts and Wally are also adorable characters

So poetic.

- One of the most epic battle stages on all Pokémon history
- This song drops hard at every second it passes.
- Wally transforms his Gallade into Mega-Gallade as a symbol of his development not just as a trainer, but as a confident man.
- He's ready to show you how much he prepared for this moment and how much he grown across his journey.

In my headcanon, Wally eventually becomes the Hoenn Champion by defeating the ORAS protagonist.
If we havent known his team at battle tower im sure he'd win against us :)
Too bad that's all it is.
Crystal's Pokemon TV it must have been a sad day for your parents when you slithered out of the abortion bucket
My Head Canon: Wally is a Legendary Super Saiyan 2 during this fight.
From a timid kid who was Excited to catch his own pokemon
To a Brave and Badass Trainer Following his dreams with his first caught pokemon
When the quiet kid opens his web cam in the online lesson.
In Sun and Moon , Wally is in the battle tree.
The battle tree is strictly for CHAMPIONS ONLY.
Let that sink in for a minute.
Perhaps the trainers there just had to collect all eight badges?
Buster Tornado maybe he beat brandan/may
That's what I meant by this post xD
Anyways, why would you have to become champion of your region first if you're from Alola, where everybody else can just stroll in free? Sounds kinda dumb tbh.
Imagine this theme with Pokemon Generation, Wally vs Pokemon Trainer at the end of Victory Road...

Just a reminder
This was Wally's last team in the game as the most difficult battle
Mega gallade: near unwallable physical attacker
Magnezone: absurdly tanky special attacker
Roserade: decently fast special attacker
Azumarill: hugely powerful physical threat with good setup
Talonflame: the unstoppable king of flying types for the gen
GARCHOMP: FUCKING GARCHOMP
All that's keeping Wally from total annihilation...is the programmers making sure we can actually win
Edit: ok, to clarify, player input can make a game difficult or not, I'm saying the developers clearly tried to make Wally as hard as possible within their own rules, like no legendaries
Of course, not everyone plays fair to the ai
Edit 2: can you all just put your pride on the shelf and acknowledge the difficulty there without bragging how you beat him easily because, shocker, it's a human being playing against an AI, seriously, I'm trying to start a discussion and all you want to say is how you cheesed him with surf and legendaries.

Very tokusatsu like.

Don't you think that it's strange that people are complaining how this doesn't sound like a Pokemon track when Ghetsis' battle theme didn't sound like one either, but people act like it's one of the most godly themes ever created?
this song seems like it was Xenobalde
Colress' theme didn't sound like it'd be from a Pokemon game either.
Ghetsis' theme was hardly a song.
That theme is overrated as hell.

Wallys character in general is the reason why he will always be my favorite. He started as just a small boy begining his journey, but he became stronger and became a man. This epic battle theme tells his story perfectly. the final time you battle him is the only time I feel bad winning a battle
And having badass pokemon
me too i love wally
I said that 10 months before you tho :P
:OHHHHHHH YAH! M-Gallade is OP, thought.)
Not the same way, but it's the same idea.
but if the player is wally's rival wouldn't it make this the players battle theme?

I just killed a spider with a Thomas the tank engine toy while listening to this
And I felt awesome
Them brown spiders would fuck you up.
LMAO WTF!!!???
LOL😂
Solstices don't know what's funnier, the fact you used a Thomas the tank engine toy which is very ironic or that you felt good
goddamn it. laughing like a tit in the break room at work. gg!
“Haha, yeah alright kid, ill humour you one more ti-....oh god.”
I cried during this battle. God he is such a cinnamon roll too good for this world.
That's the greatest analogy I've ever heard
The Battle Resort lets you listen to this theme anytime. JS.
Mega Gallade with his Duel Disk-like blades be like:
"I summon Determined Wally in attack position."
Nah, his MegaGallade's about to send your whole team to the f***ing Shadow Realm...
LOL
No, he's gonna summon the winged gallade of ra
this song does not have to hit as hard as it does.
Its time to Play this game for the third time....
@@truhiloragd321 If only I still had my 3ds. Well, hopefully this and the other mainline pokemon games get ported to the Switch one day.
@@ansemtheseekerofdarkness8943 i bought a New 2ds xl lol
It hits harder than a critical Psycho Cut from his Gallade.
That's what make it a masterpiece
And guess whose back for Sun and Moon?
Quinton Blackburn WALLY MY BOY!!!!
Quinton Blackburn all I want know is Gold and Sun and Moon is awesome
Quinton Blackburn Dat boi
AND GUESS WHAT!!! WALLY DOESN'T HAVE A MEGA GALLADE IN SUN AND MOON!!
ThatAngryBull
Actually, he does.
Special is always the best. Its characterization is awesome and its leagues apart from the anime.
VolugTheWolf Anime? Characterization? Whaaaaaaaaaaat?
Exactly my point.
Let this sink in for a second, all of the “special” battle tree trainers in SM are all champions, were champions at one point, or gym leaders.
*HMMMMM*
Why do I have a feeling Brendan isn’t top banana anymore 🤔
Mystic Bros. Seems like Brendan’s muteness could only get him so far.
what about colress
and kukui
Homie Mimikyu they are not as important
technically the player was the first champion of alola. Also, if we get gold silver crystal style sequels to oras... I want wally to be champion
Homie Mimikyu
Kukui created the pokemon league in Alola
8 Years later and this is easily in the Top 3 songs in all of Pokemon if not just the best song. This songs is not just a song but the culmination of a journey and tells the Wally's entire story when paired alongside his battle even if you don't directly see his journey when you see his pokemon you know exactly where he got them, where and how he trained them, and how he used them to get to where he is now and it's damn beautiful and the thing is is that when Wally reappears in at the battle tree he appears there as someone that has succeeded at beat beating the champion and fulfilling his dreams
