I love how onepiece is the anime we’ve all been waiting for, one that just doesnt end when it gets too good. You could watch the entire series (even after its done) and still have a reason to rewatch it, just because of the depth and foresight that oda had from the start

Even as first mate he doesn't really exercise authority. There’s a manga that Oda made before One Piece called “Wanted.” It consists of 4 separate stories. One of those stories is called “Monsters” and it features Shimotsuki Ryuma. I highly recommend that you check it out and read it.

Even if Zoro is the son of Shimotsuki Ushimaru it really doesn't mean that he got strong simply because of his heritage, because that's not always true in One Piece. For example, how many of Big Mom's kids are pretty weak? Quite a few. Usopp is the son of Yasopp yet Usopp is still (unfortunately) pretty weak. Bonney isn't remarkably strong despite her father being a warlord with an incredible fruit (or at least she isn't strong compared to the other Supernova currently). That's not to say that genes don't play a factor in one's strength, especially in the cases of people like Yamato or Sanji, who's strength kinda hinges on their genes (One is an Oni and the son of Kaido, the other having straight up enhanced genes) but Zoro being the relative of a samurai just means that, if anything, he was destined to become a swordsman.

Zoro is the descendent of Ushimaru's sister, btw. The family left wano and settled in the east blue. The sister married a Roronoa and both of Zoro's parents died, making him a street kid. Kuina is basically a third cousin, as she's a descendent of Ushimaru. It's been confirmed in the latest SBS.

Many of Big Mom kids are stronger than most people in the one piece world they are weak compared to Luffy. That’s a terrible comparison when her lower tier crew mates were wiping out cities on islands to collect ingredients.

This statement was ironically enough first made when we first met Zoro. A message that's only been reinforced by the World Nobles who are arguably the biggest example of how lineage doesn't really mean anything. What matters the most in the world of One Piece is who you decide that you want to be. Zoro decided well before he even met Mihawk that he'd be the Greatest Swordsman in the World. Him maybe being related to Ryuma is more just icing on the cake.

Clearly their related, but only thematically. Ryuma was a lead character Monster the one shot that had the face Zoro would later inherit, technically not the same Ryuma from that one shot cause his feats have been adapted for one piece, so all his actions were in Wano, not the outside world. Zoro was set to be a member of Buggy’s crew before Oda made him Luffy’s first mate, that’s why when Ryuma hears about three sword style from Zoro, he calls it a circus act. It’s all very Meta but is very well handled by Oda. Zoro really doesn’t need a bloodline to prove his strength, and it’s too late to line anything up like that for his character. And I doubt we’re gonna double back to Wano.

Furiko shimotsuki is the one who raised zoro until age he reached ages 7 or 9 then she died leaving zoro to be orphaned however he was in the shimotsuki east blue residence when furiko died so zoro must've went about wandering as a child until finally coming to koshiros dojo

I’ve always wondered if Zoro’s name is a reference to the character El Zorro, the smash buckling vigilante of old California. The fact that Zorro is Spanish for “fox” and Oda has now connected Zoro to a kitsune seems more than coincidental.

I'm guessing he twists his head and torso so that he can move Wado-Ichimonji away from the trajectory of the slash. But yeah, that is a glaring flaw of his Three-Sword Style swordplay. He has to twist his body more than usual to make an overhead slash from the left, meaning he has to look away from his opponent for a brief instant. And that flaw is exacerbated by the fact that he is missing one eye.
It was discussed in the manga. Hyogoro and Kawamatsu talked about Zoro’s physical resemblance to Ryuma as Zoro was clashing with King. Furthermore, there’s a one-shot manga created by Oda called “Monsters”, telling the tale of young Ryuma, and young Ryuma was basically Zoro with black hair. This manga is very old and says nothing about Wano or Shusui being a Black Blade, Shusui isn’t even mentioned by name and its design is just like an ordinary sword, but that manga is canon to One Piece

Anime gave more details about the connection between Zoro and his Wano ancestors than the manga itself.

According to manga, there is the possibility they are related since it wouldn't be far-fetched that ryuma met someone after going outside wano, and zoro who coincidentally looks like ryuma was in the island that a descendant of ryuma lived
@@mugirosama8137 read the SBS pertaining to the chapters the anime covers, Oda disproved the theory by flat out stating they look alike but are not related.
Clearly their related, but only thematically. Ryuma was a lead character Monster the one shot that had the face Zoro would later inherit, technically not the same Ryuma from that one shot cause his feats have been adapted for one piece, so all his actions were in Wano, not the outside world.
Zoro was set to be a member of Buggy’s crew before Oda made him Luffy’s first mate, that’s why when Ryuma hears about three sword style from Zoro, he calls it a circus act. It’s all very Meta but is very well handled by Oda.
Zoro really doesn’t need a bloodline to prove his strength, and it’s too late to line anything up like that for his character. And I doubt we’re gonna double back to Wano.

Shimotsuki furiko is shimotsuki ushimaru elder sister she left the land of wano with her clansman the legendary swordsmith shimotsuki kuzaboru and other 22 people 55 years ago and three years later they settled down in what became Shimotsuki village in the east blue and she married a local swordsman roronoa pinzoro and later she gave birth to a son named roronoa arashi At some point in time he married the daughter of a bandit named tera and she gave birth to roronoa zoro Sometime after arashi later died in a battle against pirates and tera later died of an illness

i kinda like the idea that zoro just coincidentally looks and acts like ryuma shimotsuki, and they don't necessarily have a connection. it doesn't need any elaboration. i'd prefer that to him just outright being his descendant

We haven't learned anything in this Arc about Zoros backstory. Fml we learned more about the village and the dojo people than Zoro. We know literally nothing about his past besides the Kuina Story.

And pirates are like a group of leftovers of humans and not heir of kings and gods and heroes... And the pirates are against this establishment created and supported by gods, kings and heroes... Furiko shimotsuki is the one who raised zoro until age he reached ages 7 or 9 then she died leaving zoro to be orphaned however he was in the shimotsuki east blue residence when furiko died so zoro must've went about wandering as a child until finally coming to koshiros dojo

1:21 Here is the flaw with Zoro's sword play. how can you swing your left sword vertically if your mouth sword is in front horizontally. Looks cool tho when he trying to make a full swing but what did he do off camera
I'm guessing he twists his head and torso so that he can move Wado-Ichimonji away from the trajectory of the slash. But yeah, that is a glaring flaw of his Three-Sword Style swordplay. He has to twist his body more than usual to make an overhead slash from the left, meaning he has to look away from his opponent for a brief instant. And that flaw is exacerbated by the fact that he is missing one eye.

And don't forget about Zoro's evil brother: Down D. Stairs who killed his rival as a child.

It was discussed in the manga. Hyogoro and Kawamatsu talked about Zoro’s physical resemblance to Ryuma as Zoro was clashing with King. Furthermore, there’s a one-shot manga created by Oda called “Monsters”, telling the tale of young Ryuma, and young Ryuma was basically Zoro with black hair. This manga is very old and says nothing about Wano or Shusui being a Black Blade, Shusui isn’t even mentioned by name and its design is just like an ordinary sword, but that manga is canon to One Piece
