It would be cool if squadrons were updated, since they can be stronger than duty support NPCs. A better AI, viera and horthgar recruits added, duties added, and possibly jobs added.
I loved my squadrons and was sad to find out in my sprout days that theyre unfinished/dead content, i would kill to send my soilders out to tuliyollal and that like
I used squadrons at the beginning of EW to start leveling my DRK because the job was so squishy at launch that I felt like I was griefing the healers. Also for anyone who hasn't maxed the tactics yet, bringing two arcanists can help keep you alive as they will stop to help panic heal you if your health gets too low.
As mentioned squadrons can get pretty powerful once leveled up but can be really frustrating to use. I prefer to tank when using squadrons for this reason. Duty support is great but can be so slow. I learned to use mitigation by wall to wall tanking in Duty Support. I also like being able to explore the whole dungeon, get all the loot , learn the fights and watch cutscenes without impacting anyone else. Still in Stormblood but now that I've learned about trusts I can't wait to get to that.
Wow! Congrats on being able to do the wall to wall DS pull! 😃 That isn't always easy because it feels like sometimes the healer intentionally lets you suffer to teach you better than make them do their job. 😂 I hope you have a wonderful time getting through the rest of the MSQ! 💜
You're absolutely right! Is it a pain to vet them to that point? Yes. Yes, it is. But it can be so satisfying afterwards that it might just be worth it. 😉
I use duty support, cause I haven't levelled trusts. It's great for learning how to tank with a new job. If you can wall to wall with duty support, you're golden, lmao I also use them for minions/orchestrion rolls. No competition, and they seem to drop way more with duty support than real people
Yes! Those are great reasons to do DS over DF! And I just learned that people are doing wall to wall pulls in DS and it's blowing my mind! You're crazy! 💜 It feels like the healer AI is programmed to let you die when you do that to teach you not to! It's definitely not easy!
@@gamer_debbie yeah, DS is definitely programmed to let you die. Especially alphinaud in mt. gulg 🤣 I will say, wall to wall DS is way easier as WAR than any other tank. Doing that is what finally gave me the confidence to tank regularly, though. No worries if you mess up and die. Felt I had a much better grasp of my abilities after doing it a few times
I still don't understand why duty support and trust both exist... and why trust is locked behind the end of the expansion... why can't we just level the trust NPCs as we go through the story?
I understand your confusion! 💜They are two different systems that kinda overlap a bit. Duty support is a group of NPCs you can use to clear content. Trusts are NPC Avatars with their own quirks and personality that you can level up and equip glams to. Trusts don't unlock until the end of the expansion because they aren't meant to act as Duty Support... Which is good, because they aren't as reliable as Duty Support NPCs. But it would be really convenient if we could level them up at the same time we did! I always just assume that I'll level up a couple alt jobs with Trusts after I'm done the story. I hope this helps!
Back before Duty Support was A Thing, I used my squadron a lot. Now, I only use them to get max rank in my GC. The AI and controls are just so bad that I would rather take a couple extra minutes with Duty Support. The time difference isn't that bad, IMO - we're talking a few extra minutes to do Trust/DS vs. DF, most of the time, especially if you factor in queue times. I enjoy leveling my trust just because they're beloved characters. I do a fair bit of my dps leveling from 70-90 with my trust. All of these systems are terrible as tank/healer, IMO, because they don't make (enough) mistakes, take enough damage, or heal intelligently.
You're absolutely right! The time difference isn't that much, and is even less if you have a DF group where there might be a wipe, or someone has to afk for a few. But you do have to be very on point if you're tanking/healing - that's for sure!
These features have been very helpful for me going through the MSQ and leveling alt jobs. Especially when I get off work later and might have trouble queueing. I’ve almost got all jobs unlocked with most around 30. Also, even though the squadron AI is dumb, it seems like they never die and could just stand in electric water without getting hurt. Another thing I noticed was that the squadron doesn’t have the level 51 dungeon. Definitely not going to continue squadrons from 51-60.
Congrats on your progress! 💜And yes, the Squadrons are immune to a lot of mechanics/damage because they can't do it properly - so they just ignore it. But that isn't always a big help when you have to keep telling them to switch targets so they can help you actually clear the dungeon. 🤣
I don't use Squadrons. I used them to get the highest rank in my Grand Company, then never looked back. If I want anything from ARR/HW, I do it solo/unsynced. For first time clears, I use Duty Support for that extra bit of story and dialogue. I use Trusts as well to get them all to level 90 for the title. This can be combined with other content, such as Wondrous Tails, farming for Triple Triad cards, glam, leveling alts (not at level 80) or whatever you can think of. I generally play tank in Duty Support/Trusts and do big pulls, just like I would with other players. This works kind of well, but the NPCs take a while to follow me and it lead to quite a few panic invulns when the healer took too long to reach me. An improvement for Duty Support/Trusts would be if they'd use AoEs on big packs and that they'd glue the healer to me if I'm the tank. I don't want them to literally stay where I am, just run to me when I move through a dungeon and don't leave me alone when I'm tanking. They can still be slower than other players, that's fine in an MMO to encourage playing with other players. I like that their performance in Duty Support/Trusts matches their personality and the lore of the game. For example, Y'shtola will do all mechanics correctly because she can see Aether. There's one exception to that and that is Vanaspati. She can't see Dynamis and will not do all mechanics there. Limit breaks now belong to Alisaie and you will die if you bring Alisaie and Alphinaud in the same dungeon while tanking, so don't do that. Overall, I like the chance to be able to play with the characters I've come to know and like in the MSQ, but I'd like them to be a bit stronger. They will literally lower their damage output if your damage output is high. Another bonus is you don't have to wait for the queue to pop, that can actually be faster than waiting for other players to do it with you. It's also much easier to get away with only using tomestone gear when leveling alts. No one will complain if you use level 70 gear in a level 79 dungeon in Duty Support/Trusts. Duty Support/Trusts is a system I want to see expanded in the long run. This is my preferred way to prevent dead content. Want to do it synced and the queue just won't pop/there's no PF? Just do it with NPCs. Final Fantasy XI let us bring NPCs to all content at some point, so I guess we'll get it for XIV as well someday. But not sure how they'd let NPCs do higher difficulty content. They said that one 8 player trial in EW with NPCs was quite the challenge to program, so really no idea how they'd let me bring NPCs to Extreme, Savage, or even Ultimate content without making them way too easy.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts on these! 💜 I agree! And the Trusts personality - you're absolutely right! I hope they continue to update Trusts and Duty support (they mentioned doing it in the keynote today) but also look at some fixes to keep it relevant and a great alternative to regular DF.
I'm leveling my trust right now. I really want that lv 90 title. And I want to know what the second outfits are because I can't think of anything. I always do wall to wall. Just aggro the second group, pop Arm's Length if needed and let Tankdad do the rest ^^ I understand, that the squad should be updated, but the good thing about the situation is that you get to see skills that are long gone from the game ^^
You're right! I never thought of it that way, as the squads haven't been updated since some pretty big class changes! And I'm giving huge kudos to anyone who does wall-to-wall in DS because that's crazy! Thank you so much for sharing! 💜
squadrons from level 1-50 and duty support from then onwards. if they revisited squadrons though and raised the level caps and # of dungeons we could do, I would strictly use squadrons. I love the idea of recruiting and customizing my own little party and ranking up.
i use duity support only to the trust level for jobs lagging behind ( 20+ characters and im a compleationist so they all typically do all the jobs ) i just like making new characters what can i say ... as for the trust it has the most exp value and the speed is actually a bit faster then a queue group because overpulling doesnt happen . cant dps if you are dead or outran your healer you also sit at less dps if you are eating your healers mp and cast time because you are taking a million hits and will die in a second if the healer isnt spamming meaning no dps from the healer ... 90% of the time non healer runners never realize this and pull that adjust crap while averaging wipes regularly and i just get runs done .
Trusts are unfortunately designed so that the dungeon will take a set amount of time. If you increase or decrease your DPS, the trust NPCs will decrease or increase theirs to compensate. There is no way to make Trust dungeons go faster. But it's not so bad, given that it's still faster than some roulettes, and you get all of the loot.
needing to LV trusts is so dumb, and they will all attack the same ONE target in a sea of enemies. None of them are programmed to do their aoes, besides the tank occasionally to keep aggro. Unlike Squadron, you cant tell the Trusts to attack mobs, instead you as a non-tank have to do so and nearly be murdered by mob aggro until Trusts tank finally grabs them lol.
Thankfully if you don't enjoy it, there's no need for you to do so. You can use the Duty Support feature to complete any dungeons you need without levelling your trusts at all. 💜
What would be cool if they added more units like I don't know Arbert and Lamitt and watch them banter and make out while the mobs are tearing you apart or even Manderville, Manderville would be an awesome unit.

Yes! I would so be 100% for this! We can only hope! 💜
Agreed, that whole content sort of stalled out at level 60, whereas I can imagine interesting extensions.
I honestly forget squadrons is a thing, its so abandoned!

Question! Do dungeon minions still have a chance to drop via Trust/Duty support system?
Absolutely! Fewer pieces of treasure drop on average in a DS/Trust dungeon than a Duty Finder one, but you get all of it so things average out!
