As a 1.0 beta and legacy player: FFXIV runs on a cycle of hype and downturns. It has since it inception. Each hype brings new people in and courious returning players. Each downturn brings its detractors out from under the woodwork to declare the doom of the game. It's a continious swelling and filtering process that has done well for the game's growht for over 10 years - and it hasn't stopped yet. I predict that we are at the start of a new, larger cycle, so our downturn will be the largest yet since 1.0, and likely won't pick back up until the larger arching story picks up steam again in five or so years, with small swells that will keep things going along. This is A Realm Reborn all over again. History will likely repeat itself in some form as the game finds a new audiance and draws back in returners. As we are in a more seasonal downturn, expect the following - Statments that the game 'never was that good' People with negative politcal biases taking pot shots at their favorite things to hate. People who will point at any piece of content they wanted and is not there, or did not want and is there, as THE definitive source for all FFXIV's woes. And of course, ardent defenders that can't take a lick of critisism that may actually help the game improve. In short, nothing new here folks - resume your normal gaming habits and stay/return as you see fit. I've always had and on-again-off-again approach to FF games and it's worked for me. I'll be back once my interest in the game picks back up. Hope to see you there.
Completely agree! 💜Thank you so much for summing it up so concisely. Though I haven't taken any large breaks from the game since I started streaming, it wasn't unusual before then to take 3-4 months off at a time to play other games and catch up on non-screen based hobbies. I always found that by the end of an expansion cycle I never felt like I'd missed out on any substantial content and was able to 'catch up' rather quickly at the start of the next expansion. The only thing I missed, in hindsight, was some seasonal event awards I really wish I had picked up in game instead of having to play irl money for now. Which is a small price to pay for gaming freedom.
Same thing happens in Neverwinter. When they release something good despite longstanding issues people have been complaining about, people come and play and enjoy it, despite the longstanding issues people have been complaining about, but then the player base drops a little bit when fewer people play it than the likes of Final Fantasy XIV to begin with. Hoo boy. You'd swear the sky is falling and the devs are going to pull the plug at any minute the way people go on about how Neverwinter is dying a slow death. They point to the issues from years ago that haven't been fixed as evidence of their claims and I'm just like, "Stop. What do you want from a free to play game? It's turning 12 this year, of course some older issues still exist, fixing them would probably break something else. Not that they shouldn't be fixed, but there's an order some of these things need to be approached in. Most of the devs who work on it now weren't even part of the team when it was first released in 2013."
Yeah, SE shifting back to 19 week patch cycles in Endwalker makes things a bit sparse if you don't have something going on. There are things to do in the downtime, but it really depends on how much FF14 you wanna play when it's in a downswing or just play something else?
While im afraid of 14 going to the way FF11 is, losing people should get Square head out there butt. I never thought it was a good idea to have Yoshi P and his team make FF16 and i stand by that.
You're absolutely right. 💜 It's too much pressure for one person, let alone too much to oversee without something falling through the cracks. They need more than one person capable of steering the ship, or they need Yoshi's focus on their primary money-maker.
Wow thats ignorant. Dragon Quest X is pretty damn successful over in JP and its playerbase has been growing outside of JP as well. So no FFXIV isnt the “only” game financially supporting the company. And I’m pretty sure that FFXI still brings in a profit even if it isnt as heavy as it once was.
@@zedorian6547 I mean, in their last earnings report a few months ago, their profits were down 49% year over year. Not saying that ff14 is solely responsible for that, but that was a factor that they pointed out in that report. They are making profit still, but it's literally half of what it was a year ago
@@gamer_debbie yep. Sure XIV's been around for a while, but even MMOs don't last forever. Or in certain cases (EverQuest) they may still be around, but their original companies aren't.
The reason you see ppl leaving the game is because it has become apparent that the direction and devs mindset are not open to change. Yes, theres alot of preaching of change and a look back at how the game changed from 1.0. But really it has become predictable and rooted itself in its habits. In an effort to make it More Story, FF14 has decided to continue to yank the controller from the players hands and just make it a wall of txt and cut scenes. Hindsight 20/20, alot of modifications make more sense now. such as the reworks cut down on exploration and being able to do everything solo with NPCs is coming back to bite them. Soon SE will make it where your character can also be automated in the dungeons so you dont have to play at all. Just auto the dungeon. They have been told time and time again. The story needs a new starting point, its too long and its becoming a barrier to entry.- Yoshi P "No" Theyve been told we need time and time again that we want customization of gear. Its boring and lacking. - Yoshi P "No" Theyve been told time and time again that the class rotations needs more varitety and complexity and to do away with the Burst window. Having everyone play the same way is not fun. - Yoshi P "No" Theyve been told time and time again to show dont tell more of the story parts. We want to be the ones do the cool stuff we see in cutscenes. We did not say to just add more cutscenes. - Yoshi P "No" They have been told time and time again that the content needs a rework. From Fates, quests, to maps. Etc. Its all the same just a different zone. - Yoshi P "No" They have this road map of "Lets do what we did last time just in this xpac and zone" that isnt gonna cut it anymore. These people do not want to change. They are set in their ways and until they admit they are wrong and will make those changes the game will continue forward in a downward slope.
isn’t it wild how all these so-called 'vocal critics' suddenly go mute during the media tours? The moment they’re face-to-face with Yoshi-P, they’re all starry-eyed fanboys instead of asking a single critical question about the game. All the big XIV streamers included-guess it’s easier to trash talk on Social Media than actually speak up when it matters. What a bold display of keyboard courage! 🙄
As a solo player I really shouldn't complain about this popular idea of 'come again when you feel like it'. Then again, this makes it way less likely to be active with people you like having around because everyone overlaps every now and again but rarely for long
It does suck when communities are disrupted because people are coming and going. But then it makes it so much sweeter when everyone comes back for big launches like main patches and expansions.
@@gamer_debbie unless, of course- they don't. Which doesn't make things at all sweet, especially giving the issues getting together with players on other servers.
Yeah! What seemed like a plus for the game literally defeats the point of an MMO. The more you tell people to unsub when they're bored, the more they won't take your game seriously and move on. Although in SE's defence, the game is mostly catering to the Nightclub Second Life crowd now, so it doesn't really matter what kind of content they add, those types buy everything on the store and and stay subbed religously.
I remember when Brynhildr was a mildly populated server back in the day. I remember enjoying the playerbase a lot back then. I remember transferring to Gilgamesh because “thats where the raiders were”. I remember going right back to Brynhildr because Gilgamesh sucked. And then the server transfer feature happened and killed any sense of community the game had back then.
Ah, yes. Those days. I too followed the crowd across NA. But I was Famfrit, then Behemoth, then Diabolos, and then for some reason I went to Hali when Dynamis opened because house I guess. lol Transferring is convenient, but you're right that it's makes things like FCs less important.
Considering we are in a content lull and they only released a harder version of 24-man content on top of dropping a nuke on the modding scene with the expansion QoL and visual updates I can understand why some people are taking a break. Also Marvel Rivals and POE2 recent dropped, WoW Classic Anniversary servers are going, people are going to be checking out other games during the down time in XIV.
Oh absolutely! If I weren't a FFXIV streamer primarily, I'd be taking a break too. I'd expected to have been off for 3 months or so playing DA:V, but *that* didn't pan out. But that doesn't mean there hasn't been other awesome games lately that I'd love to give a go.
The question is what are they getting out of it? What's their goal? It's obviously not profit, considering subs are dropping (and without active players, one would think the cash shop revenue would decrease well).
The real killer for the game was Endwalker and its complete lack of non-instanced 4 man content. No relic grind worth a damn and no field ops and no endgame crafting zone meant almost everyone I knew stopped playing the game. Despite how awful the Dawntrail MSQ is, everyone agrees that the battle content is good and a new field op and DoH/DoL endgame means that people will have a chance to actually be social again. The only real problem is that the 3 month patch cycle, which was promised to be 4 months, has turned into 5-6 months and if the new content isn't up to snuff then the giant wait between patches WILL hurt the game.
You make really good points! 💜There has been criticism of the game itself (if not the story) from as far back as Endwalker. Though I'd love a good mid-core grind (think Restoration rankings, etc) in the game right now, I personally don't mind casual grinding towards achievements instead. I'd just rather they put more incentive/reward into creating content that already exists (Variant dungeons, for example).
While I have some issues with the 7.0 msq which is a shame, I tend to try and not let youtube videos and streamers tell me how i should feel about things, and if I shouldn't be playing my favourite game. I've been having a blast running old legacy content with my fc just for the fun of it and socializing, while playing all sorts of other games from my backlog it's been super fun and even though "there's not enough content" I still don't have time for everything I want to do. So for now I'll still be here. I reckon people should make up their own minds on what you want to spend your free time doing, it's a game after all. Criticism is a healthy thing for people wanting the game to improve, but lots of videos especially feel like jumping on the wagon for money I'm already tired of hearing about it. I've only been around since the end of Shb but I feel like as the game got more popular maybe these voices tend to get louder? I see now not everything's perfect, but this game entertains me well more than enough for what I pay for it.
Just seems like lul due to little content. I will admit Yoshi needs to rethink patch cycles. But this whole the game is dying is very hyperbole, every time I log into 14 I'm always in a que. Regardless of the time...well except when I get on at 3am EST.
Exactly. 💜 Even if we were at 1.4 million before, anything at or near 1 million is still respectable. The average player not on Halicarnassus won't notice any difference. lol
What happened was they started caring less and less about 90% of the game and instead focused on 2% of the game completely, they haven't took A RISK since Stormblood ended, every boss and every fight became copy pasted, jobs turned to shit. The game was amazing in ARR-to stormblood job wise, it was enjoyable playing the jobs through the game, now every jobs are just carbon copys with diffrent names and animation but the same at the end of the day, Yoshi being a moron decided Oh who cares you will wait another 2 years while i focus on the 2% of the gameplay. It has nothing to do with the story the combat itself has been trash since stormblood ended
I play on Midgardsormr, I've found a few housing wards with 10 house plots under tha same FC a bot. FC of a member of 1 taking almost every house plot. Is there a way to report that crap because it's so hard to get a house and they swipped small and med houses. I've been playing for 10 years and every now and then I take a year off to play other games. This time my husband and I were off for 2 years and just got back into it.
@@tonberryfields144 Not really a way to do so unfortunately. Its basically allowed to hoard plots since is not against tos. Some players have played when there was no restriction on the amount of plots you could own. As for others they just pass ownership and even in rarer cases people sell them for gil/irl money. I own many FC’s myself and im just a few among many.
I'm just unhappy with the current options I have outside of raiding right now. Still playing, and trying to get creative and try new things. I hope the devs take a lesson from this and make a more mindful change next go around with the cadence of some of these expansion features. Story was amazing, but the execution from the writing team was lacking. I think it also needed more action between story cutscenes as it could have made it much more tolerable. Despite my gripes, I still love the game. It doesn't come without its share of hard lessons; just like everything else in life.
You’re absolutely right. It’s okay to voice concerns even when you love the game! 💜 While I wish there was something awesome to work towards atm, I'm fine with catching up. I've spent so many years as a casual player there's no shortage of achievements I can still work towards. Sometimes it feels like there's too much to do. lol
There has been a gigantic chasm with regards to actual repeatable content in the game caused by Endwalker adding quite literally, none. savage raiding has been the only real reason to do anything in the game more than once for about 3 years now. Endwalker was an ok conclusion to the story that started in ARR but everything since then has been a one and done affair for the most part which seems odd for a mmo. My guess is that when they release the new exploration zone content, the state of the game will massively improve since that will be actual content that will require grinding and a traditional mmo type gameloop that has been sorely missing for well over an expansion at this point.
i've been playing ff14 for a bit over 3 years now and i'm surprised it took me that long to get just a little burnout from it. i'm mainly playing other games atm but i could never imagine to fully stop with ff14. eorzea feels like home to me and yeah sometimes you just need a little vacation x)
Absence makes the heart grow fonder. 💜 If you force yourself to play when you're not feeling it, it will cause resentment. Enjoy other games and come back when you want to!
@@gamer_debbie i will see. The writer is loved being (i assume) forced to step down for "new talent" was the only red flag i needed to know. Why would someone good at their job and healthy quit? They have musicians who survived cancer working there. It is all i needed to know. This game and osrs are being taken for a ride by suits and ties.
I have 3 major reasons my fiancée and i stopped playing. - There were good parts of the story, but for the most part, it was awful. No action and wuk lamat being naive, beyond ignorant about her own people, and just plain boring modern writing. I can rant about this forever, but i won't. - Theres no endgame content to do, other than 'you make one wrong move, everyone and their grandma dies' content. Theres no mid level content. Just brain dead easy and break every bone in your body level content. - There's no bozja for the FC to do together socially, once, or twice a week. So we each stopped playing slowly. Heres a bonus point, I dont give a shit about gear anymore because of currency caps, and needing to trade a coin in here to get a piece of string here to get some pants here. I just dont care to go through the self admittedly easy hoops of upgrading my gear. Time to continue my rant, i long for the days of shadowlands and endwalker. Not because of the story, but because i had friends playing the game and endgame content with. Classes have a distinctive feeling. Oh, the cherry on top. The built-in latency. Ive played with it for years, and im beyond over it. I heal someone just before they die. No, they died, and you lost your benediction. See ya idiot. I was out of the orange circle 2 seconds ago, but Yoshi P needs a blood sacrifice so youll perish. For this reason ALONE i feel as if they should abandon xiv and make a new mmo, with new tech, better code, and better, not built in slow latency. Oh heres a second cherry. Give me god damn hats already for my bunny boy. Im just a fucking human with bunny ear. Just clip my goddamn ears through the fucking helment. I cant stop ranting, people being banned for using mods, then them implementing the mod in the next patch. It feels so damn petty. Why is it that modders can get hats working for us, but the company that we pay a sub to, cant. If you just made one guy do it for the past couple of years, he would've been done by now! Tldr: no mid core, no new bozja, no hats, latency sucks, story bad, currency cap sucks, dont care to get better gear.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a detailed comment and sharing your thoughts! 💜 While it would be an entire book to respond to all of it, and unfair to cherry-pick points, I'm just going to acknowledge I read it all, and appreciate your opinion, and hope others continue to like it as it resonates with them.
@gamer_debbie I know everyone has their own opinions, and I think that's a good thing! I'm not some Twitter weirdo who thinks the opposing opinion of mine is wrong, and that you don't deserve your knee caps. I was just in a ranty mood, and I enjoy complaining. Effectively, I screamed into the void, and you got to read it. And to be fair, not everything is negative. The fights in DT have been the best ever. Blew me away and I love them. And I love jazz myself. The game also looks very pretty.
I've played MMORPG's for the last 20 years, and this is incredibly common. People come back for big patches, and then go do other things between them, doom posting about it is like you said, just click bait. Dawntrails story was fine, nothing amazing, I'd rant it somewhere around the start of stormblood in quality which is satisfactory, and I believe too it will continue to improve as the year progresses. There is a lot of exciting content coming.
Exactly. 💜 It's not what we've come to expect over the last 2 expansions, but honestly, we were spoiled. You don't usually see award-winning storytelling inside an MMO, but FFXIV has always tried. Sometimes they hit the mark... sometimes the toes of the person standing at the bar, but they always put in effort and are clearly passionate about their jobs. I have no doubt there has been long, long conversations regarding community feedback in DT and how to mitigate things going forward... if SE doesn't get involved and try to micro-manage.
Yeah. I feel that. 💜 I plan to play a few games off my steam list that I haven't gotten to yet, but as for new games atm I don't really want to shell out the money. Dragon Quest III Remake is a want for me, but at $80 CAD still seems like too much.
sadly alot my friends stop playing it forever it seems i just feel so lonely playing ff14 alone its depressing being all alone nobody returning to it over few years crys
lol they are just monitoring servers to pay less?are you this oblivious of the ways of the world?theres a reason they went with cloud servers and seriously its not for stability but control over the numbers so they can control the server workload, there is 500 k less player right now the numbers are out(and remember we barely ever where 1.3 million active )
The "Congestion" is not a marker and housing wards being full means nothing. You're talking about 9k people holding a plot, per server (if every single plot is filled, and they're not).
No. Communities are during like never before. People aren't taking a break for a month here and there like they used to. They are leaving for good and saying 'maybe' I will be back for another expansion. The 'social' aspect of the game is dying like never before. The main cause not just MSQ, it's actually gameplay and content, where did the ghost time in a while the MSQ is no longer able to sustain compensating for the gameplay and content problems. If you just need the game to be there for 'you' as people attend you come and go, then you are fine. If you want the game to be the enjoyable social world it used to be, then the hand is really in trouble unless they change. (Unsubbed member of many communities that has watched them all dieing since EW, and then drop off a cliff with DT. People won't be coming back this time. The will 'survive' though. Limping along.
As much as I understand there might be people here and there that will put the game down for good, I think you still talk hyperbole. Most of the conversations I met with people who decided to put down the game for good were people who were satisfied with the Hydaelyn and Zodiark story. They were not ready for a other 10 year arc, but even so; that screams they might start showing back up within a few expansions depending on where it goes. The irony is that the most happiest players are quitting for very healthy reasons. Now for the other ones; its like clockwork; every. single. expansion. You will always have players who threaten to never come back, but lo and behold; they start up an alt, or a completely new account with no identity and play again. They will never admit it if they announced it to the world that they are gone for good. I met plenty of these people; they will come back, but just later for different reasons. Don't worry too hard about this stuff. You have to think in the head of average players. People are loud on the internet and more negative usually. I know the dev team cares for their game a lot. Mistakes, errors, miscommunications happens all the time, but I think they'll figure something out. This isn't their first rodeo.
Idk Dawntrail was a dissapoinment. I stopped playing after it. People can say whatever they want to me, there are still tons of other games I can play anyway. I am just shocked to see a lot of posts regarding player count lost in the game, idk perhaps they share the same opinion as I do. Game is finished after Endwalker for me.
I prob won't touch the game again until the whole 'SE can do nothing wrong' attitude changes. It's genuinely killing the game causing them not to take risks and delivering the same cookie cutter formula for the last 2 expansions. The annoying MC of the exp has killed any interest in the story going forward so it's hard to rely on that for enjoyment as well. None of my friends have any interest in playing anymore due to the above reasons so that's mainly why.
It’s not just about the story. The game has started to die slowly. It’s like watching a loved one get cancer. I don’t think you grasp what people have problems with here. The updates are slower than they’ve ever been, now taking 5-6 months per patch which is just abysmal. When the content releases, it’s less “MMO” than ever. The jobs were all made into the same thing, homogenous as hecc. I have 3k hours in FFXIV so I have immersed myself wholly in this. I doubt you even watched the videos critiquing it either. Yes grifters are out there, but the actual problem is not about Dawntrail which has the best combat gameplay of every expansion to date albeit the story is definitely bad at best. The problem is the staggering lack of updates, the lack of MMO features in the MMORPG game, the lack of RPG elements, the update cycle taking far too long, and finally the fact that the game is outdated in every regard and needs to be overhauled in literally every major regard. The spaghetti code will only go so far. Yes people have been saying this stuff for a while, but the game is losing more players than ever and the charts show that right now the game has less players than ever before, it has basically no content creators (eff Xeno all he does now is drama bs), this IS bad. The less subs Square gets, the less people buy from mogstation, the less money they make. The less money they make, the servers get downsized, updates will end up taking even longer for even less content, repeat the cycle until the game is no longer running and whoops all that time and money you spent is worthless now cause oops Yoshi P’s copy pasta of “you dont have to play it, you can always take a break” actually hurt the game incurably. It’s nuanced and you failed to understand this. I’ll forgive you if you decide to react to say, Zepla or any of the actual criticisms of the game losing players. Or perhaps someone like MrHappy talking about the polygon article. I’ve taken breaks before, this doesn’t feel like a break anymore for me. 3k hours. Playing since ARR. There’s no reason for me to come back. That’s $70 + about $30 for an expansion I have no interest in playing anymore since I beat DT and realized there’s nothing left to do.
It actually is, being its a monthly subscription MMO. But, yes I do see ur point, as to why it is. I just hope that, u can run all dungeons and trials with npcs. Especially 24 man raids. Though, I don't know how that will work.
Yeah, it might not be great for SE, but they are still pulling profits, so I'm not sad for them. They are definitely going to make it a priority to perfect their Duty Support system for all (not savage/ultimate) content because that's part of future-proofing the game. No idea what they would do to make Alliance Raids more accessible in the future, but can't wait. Too many bad World of Darkness runs has me jaded. lol
@gamer_debbie Yeah I understand, I helped out alot of people running those lvl 50 raids, unsynced. I agree that SE, has lost its way. I play in Oceania server, that data centre is a ghost town, love it. I try to help out, those who r doing MSQs dungeons. SE, really needs to figure this out man.
Oh, yes - I just meant the videos using that raw information to create sensationalist titles/thumbnails are clickbait. The data itself is unbiased, it just is what it is.
I don't think you get it. FFXIV can only survive and be good if Square survives, and the subscription drop is making that exceedingly less likely. Square has been struggling recently and FFXIV has been their most profitable game ever and over the past 5 years almost single handedly keeping them afloat. Now they seem intent on following in Ubisofts footsteps
You make a good point. I'd *assume* that SE would do whatever it takes to save FFXIV if it were truly in danger, but you know what they say about assumptions. But, if worse comes to worst, maybe a benevolent millionaire will come save the day? Okay, now I'm seeing the copium everyone is talking about.
To be honest, I didn't even get and play Dawntrail. I didn't look very good, and then watching streamers play it, it didn't look like the experience was worth the money. And now if they do have another expansion that I do want to play. I am gonna have to pay for Dawntrail and slog through it, just to get to what I want.
The 'good' news is that before an expansion launch, they put all previous expansions together in a 'complete edition' that goes on sale for less than $20. So at least you don't have to pay full price for it?
Im new to the game, on a free trial. Red mage lvl 53 and Im through post ARR stuff so suddenly I decided to do Marauder/warrior. I hope the game gets better for me to keep thinking that giving my time to it would be worthy. ❤ I like the game so far
Oh im so glad that i never did eureka or bozja, because now after 3 years of playing, doing bozja for the fist time has been fun, just be ready to sink 4 mil on the logos crystals, so that zone 3 is a smooth ride in eureka
Awesome! 💜 I did Bozja when it was new, but I went back only just last year to do Eureka and loved it. Despite being older content, someone is always doing it.
I'm still playing and though my enthusiasm has dropped significantly despite knowing we wouldnt reach the hights of ShB or EW (with all the prior work going into them). Still, I also dont think FF14 is in dire straits. I played WoW for over 14 years, and with all the articles written about "WoW is dead/dying" in the past twenty years you could build a direct road to the moon. Player numbers drop after every patch. Its nothing new. I'll admit, I have considered taking a break too for a couple month, but losing my cottage... on a highly populated server... nah :D Who knows, maybe I'll be able to ge a medium one soon :P
They concern for how Square literally scissors others games because they lose "some" money. And how they see everything in now days, they will most likely even cut a MMORPG, even if it IS they only constantly money farm. Still, sad a game so big (barely played 30 min, but they spam me for years now) could end get an EoS and knowing Square: ALL WILL BE LOST. Beside, it is 2025, they are thousand of thousand of other video games that don't need to be from a AAA company for "be good", hell, I even had more fun playing indies games vs a lot of the FFs I had played for decades.
I honestly think this latest expansion shows how spoiled people are and how quick people are to be 2 sided. FF 14 blew up I'd say unnaturally due to twitch and streams screaming the games praises form the roof tops. People caught up for endwalker and then might have quit saying ok i saw the end of the story I'm satisfied. But now people who stayed plus veterans and are crying out how bad the game is and its doomed after a mid expac and two fantastic ones. Is it, maybe. is it soon to tell, definitely.
I lost faith in 14 after finishing 7.0, the writing was on the wall in EW but this is confirmation the devs have gone into full SAFE MODE. Enough with the spaghetti code excuses, enough with the toxic positivity, enough with accepting low standards. If 8.0 does not correct course with a proper overhaul of the game then R.I.P FF14! I have unsubbed first time since playing the game, won't resub till 8.0. I hope more players unsub out of protest!
most people that unsub usually dont come back and the TLDR why the game is loosing players in my opinion is that the game is to formulaic msq aside as i consider it to be subjective the content is same old same old aside from chaotic its pretty much the same every expansion casuals who only do the story now dont like the story and stopped playing the endgame players are left disappointed with this recent savage and ultimate being too easy so the question is who is the target audience for this expansion? im not gonna write this expansion off yet but so far content wise its very lackluster chaotic is probably the best content out right now but can it last till the next major patch ? its no wonder why people are unsubbing the patch cycles are getting longer and longer with the content lulls are getting longer as well i am not a doomer but the devs really need to get their shit together if they want this game to last another 10 years in my opinion
As someone on Subscriber pause... I'm going through different games since I'm not very thrilled or impressed by Dawntrails story and im simply waiting for my wife to catch up or see what 8.0 does. Working through and playing different games. LIKE YOSHI P SAID was okay.
Me personally I would justvlike Relic Design to get better. Every one after Zodiac or HW relics has just looked like an overly glorified stupid holloween weapon keyblade on the sword user side.
the content is boring predictive lazy slop with dance to the rythym fights while classes are not unique anymore they take all the earnings and fund other projects and refuse to innovate upgrade and thats a fact
- Open world dead, locations from prev expantions empty - Outdated method of storytelling on ARR, ShB, SB and even in DT so on with tons of boring cutscenes with no VA, usls text and 0 interactive in quests, 99% is take-give or kill 2 worms - Mount system is boring and outdated - there is no mounts like in GW2, ever not like in WoW with cool and dynamic dragonriding, mounts summoning for a several afk seconds is cringe. - UI is totally outdated (especially map) - Glamour and chests system are outdated (tons of different type of chests = cringe) - Server system with datacenters, no crosserver is totally outdated - Battle system and netcode are awful and outdated - No character customization (talents, passives and so on), gear is boring and completely usls. The whole game need a rework and luckly people slowly getting it
So basically, you played the game, enjoyed it for quite a while, and it kept you interested enough to stick around. But now that you're bored, the entire game suddenly needs to be rebuilt to fit your exact preferences? It’s fine to outgrow a game or want changes, but expecting it to be scrapped entirely because it’s no longer your cup of tea seems a bit much. Maybe it’s just time to move on to something that aligns better with what you’re looking for?
@@setsuna5919 I dont like and dont get all the hype and happiness about ff14 since the beggining of playing it, because literally every ascpect of the game feels weird and/or outdated, especially when I try to play other mmorpg (wow, gw2, eso and so on). But I was playing ARR and some more addon because everyone says, that I have to wait till game shined to me.
@@Atrialpwnz I think it really comes down to personal preference, and your own comment highlights that perfectly. You said, 'literally every aspect of the game feels weird and/or outdated, especially when I try to play other MMORPGs (WoW, GW2, ESO, etc.),' which makes it pretty clear you prefer those games over FFXIV. So why force yourself to keep playing and waiting for some magical moment when the game will 'click' for you? If you already know you enjoy other games more, there’s no point torturing yourself trying to like something that just doesn’t align with your tastes
@setsuna5919 nope. Story is personal preference, art style and graphic (outside technical realisation) - personal preference. But server system with FORCING player to LOG OUT and then log in again, while every other modern mmorpg has megaservers, is totally outdated. Afking for several second to summon mount, while in gw2 it instant - is objectively bad and outdated aystem. No talents tree and class customization in ROLE PLAY game is meh. And so on. This game has an interesting systems and could be better, but Yoshi and co just afking, chilling and getting money from funboys
@Atrialpwnz Those all still seem like personal preferences to me, even if you’re framing them as ‘objective flaws’: 1. You don’t like the server system because it forces you to log out after 30 minutes of AFK instead of letting you idle endlessly, which sounds more like a preference for convenience than a real issue 2. You hold your time so dearly that waiting a single second to summon a mount is apparently a dealbreaker (Though I will admit, GW2’s mount system is genuinely great, and it would be cool to see FFXIV take some inspiration there) 3. On class customization, I completely disagree. FFXIV’s job system prioritizes balance, ensuring that every job is viable for any fight in the game, allowing players to use their favorite job without worrying about being excluded. Adding talent trees or heavy customization would inevitably lead to meta builds dominating and gatekeeping players who don’t conform-something XIV actively avoids
I think you're mistaken. The biggest draw for the game is the story experience, which now has a 40+ hour tumor it. It has 'killed the joy' and this is a serious problem. Even assuming they go full sweatshop mode to turn things around (which won't truly reflect changed priorities until as late as 7.3), you still have this massive lemon in the MSQ that will act as a wall to future players that try to engage with the *next* xpac.
This is just a cope video alot of ff14 players feel the need to defend and die for ff14 and Yoshi P which btw did amazing saving the mmo with 2.0 but we need fresh blood to freshen up things.
@@RoboChocobo you really seem to forget, this isn't the first time 14s had a lacking story. Arr and stb come to mind. The people constantly complaining online for click bait will NEVER stop until the game and topic does not profit anymore. You also all ignore the good points of the DT story.

Drop in players means less money. Less Money means less game, less quality, less attention to creating new things, less attention to bugs and adjustments, less players now means less later as they plan ahead. Consumers are Important to every business. Every single one. Without them there is no business.
At last someone with some sense. I love XIV but sometimes I find its community way too positive in a naïve way... lots of players was good, now less players is also good. Lots of content being pumped is good, less content is also good cause the game is intended for players to take breaks. Is there anything that is not viewed as good for FF XIV!?
@@elgatochurro I don't think there's any need to defend nor to hate on the game. Like every game it has its good and bad things, I just find it interesting the community has always been so disinclined to acknowledged the latter
@takkun3237 you can say that but that's all thats happening Tell me what review of DT was positive? Even this video was just apologetic and hopeful. It was not praising it much.
@@elgatochurro We must not have watched the same video then. This one did not attribute the decrease of player numbers to any fault of the game but to a seemingly unavoidable loss of interest, and it went as far as to claim that this decrease will be good for both the developers and the players. When in reality less profit usually means worse conditions for developers and it signals nothing is retaining players beyond expansion launches that only happen every 2 years. Like I'm all up for finding silver linings, but this is a bit too much.
I hate to burst your bubble, but SE has been going out of their way to royally screw up with anti-consumer practices, and ffxiv isn't immune to the fallout. If that continues, this game, along with every SE game, will be strangled out of existence.
Likely for a few reasons: - Outside of high-end content, there is not that much to do right now. This could change with the field operation that we'll later get this year. - Cloud of Darkness Chaotic is fun if it works, but very, very questionable and not fun if some random player wipes us for the 100th time by not standing in their tower, competing in tiles PvP, or messing up looming. In party finder at least. Getting 24 players that are good enough is rough, I moved on the moment I had all loot and never looked back. Don't intend to do this fight again and I assume it will be dead content within a few months at most as more players finish their grind. Maybe some Discords will pick it up and host events every now and then. This fight, along with other pieces of content that players rarely do these days (such as criterion dungeons), need to be unsyncable in the future. If nothing else, then to preserve the longevity of the content. - We're in patch content now, the MSQ is not as prevalent as it was in 7.0. MSQ-only players might not come back until 8.0. - Comparing Dawntrail to expansions that could build on a story that started all the way in 1.0 might be a bit unfair, but it did leave some things (a better story, imo, or rather better writing and pacing. The story had potential, they could've done more with it) to be desired compared to the best parts of the game. I can see players leaving because of that. That said, don't think the game is dying anytime soon. And it's fine if players take a break every now and then. I was unaware of content creators making videos about how the game is doomed. Which is probably a good thing. It's not true and I'd likely not even click on those anyway.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! 💜 I've been wanting to try Cloud of Darkness Chaotic, but just haven't had the energy lately to do the PF thing. I hope that the 'bonuses' for clearing with new players will entice some people to continue doing it for a while in order to get some new people clears. I'm rather hoping it will become another BA or DRS in terms of there being long-term Discord communities hosting them, like you mentioned. And I wouldn't blame anyone who plays the game primarily for the story to opt out for DT. As I said, it's not like it's baaaad imo... But I'm so done with mediocre storytelling after DA:V.
@@gamer_debbie Can only speak for myself, but the bonuses are not worth it when it requires sitting in PF for many, many hours, just to get a single clear. Can just join a farm party, but it is still random if we're doing the farming or are getting farmed. Farm parties are not consistent either. Cloud of Darkness needs more WoL mounts or something, I guess. Gotta farm us harder. Heard many things about DA:V, no way I'll get anywhere near that game. And same.
it not break it no content to do the normal dung got more stressful so causals arent enjoying them + they dont offer any casual content beside funny detective quest and tribal quest .
If a MMO does not provide enough content for a stable player base to stay than its a failed MMO. Most people want to invest a lot of time into a MMO and basically make it their main game which FF14 with DW has failed to do. Most people wont be back as they are stuck now in other better MMOs.
@gamer_debbie they'll take ANYTHING as ammo They're like vultures, parasites. When the expansions story is good they complain about the combat, when the story is bad and combat great they'll complain about the story. This is why I'm so fed up with them. They complained Stb would end the game, Shb would be the end, ew was the end, now DT is "certainly TOTALLY going to end the game for good this time for real".
I'll keep playing until I don't enjoy it anymore. I took a two year break before coming back. So far, I'm in the Shadowbringer storyline, I'm having a good time.
Destroying mods with the graphics update honestly did kill a huge portion of the social side of the game, and many still havent come back at all. With most mods still not back up and working, many social venues have stayed closed. This i feel has much more to do with the player drop off than anything else.
@@VyxiVisa The graphics update was better for the vast majority of players, and if you need mods to be social, then you've got a bigger problem. Saying that the game shouldn't have gotten the update is about as tone deaf as the raiders who wanted Endwalker delayed so that they could get another Ultimate in Shadowbringers. Think outside your tiny community for once.
@@GetterRay Regardless about how you feel about mods, it did decimate the social community and a large number of venues and people have not come back. entire FCs of friends are just gone. So you can try to insult me but the game's social scene has not been better off for it when many artists no longer want to play and numbers have plummeted. the graphics update did not help the player base numbers clearly.
Either ff14 players think yoshidas shit smell like roses or its just this mentor behavior such as you, if the playerbase could've found an in-between within the last 6 years this game wouldnt be where it is now and i wouldn't dropped the game back in shadowbringers. But keep acting like that. Maybe that will get you far in life even without copium.
Players are coming back on the big patches to play the savage raids and rest of the content that has come between big patches, then unsub again to wait. It has always been a thing.
Idk I dont find DT any worse or better than the other expansions when they were in their X.15 phase. Heck DT is way better than Heavensward was at that point in its life.
As someone who is as of typing this not in game but otherwise actively playing Final Fantasy XIV when I have time, I am in no way concerned that people leaving for any reason is indicative of the game dying because when I log on and am playing, I see and hear people in game, some of them doing things in Heavensward, which is what I'm playing through. I've watched some of those videos and they bring up some valid criticism about not only Dawntrail, but Final Fantasy XIV as a whole, but guess what? Not only do expansions to an MMO not all need to be absolute bangers, I'm looking at you, second Sharandar campaign in Neverwinter, but even less played games like Neverwinter when compared to juggernaut MMOs like WoW or Final Fantasy XIV or games which see a period of decline in player base still see people who log on and play every day. Maybe that's someone who loves it to pieces despite the missteps, or they're someone like me who doesn't always play and had periods of not wanting to do certain things, Crystal Tower raids, and not being able to play. And then with games this popular, there's almost always people who start playing during the slow times or less popular expansions in addition to the people who start due to the hype of a popular expansion. The player base is dropping, sure, but as someone who does take breaks to play other games, Dragon Quest III HD-2D for example, I can tell you that once a game has its hooks in you, if you like it enough, you will go back to it eventually. But I don't uninstall if it's a particularly large game or have it modded, it's a hassle to reinstall the game or at least the mods.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! 💜 You're absolutely right. I've 'quit' games like WoW 3 or 4 times now. I don't see myself ever playing them again, but I've been wrong before. And resetting dozens of hotbars in FFXIV is not something I'd enjoy doing if I did take a break from it. lol I VERY much wanted to play Dragon Quest III, but just feel so bad paying $80 CAD for it - did they do enough to it to make it worth it, in your opinion?
@gamer_debbie In my opinion for DQ3HD I would say yes they did enough for it to be worth full price but you also have to take my word with a grain of salt because I am massively biased towards Dragon Quest.
@@gamer_debbie I say Dragon Quest III HD-2D is well worth the price of admission in any currency. It's the Dragon Quest III we all know and love, but there are some quality of life improvements, they flesh out Ortega's story more, there's voice acting, there's a surprise at the end that wasn't in previous versions, and one of my favorite changes, in addition to being able to personalize your party members with different hairstyles and colors and with different voices, if you don't like the personality you get after distributing seeds, you just back out from picking their hair and voice and go straight back to distributing seeds. Pachisi is gone, though, but they did add the Monster Wrangler class. And there are sparkling spots on the world map, both on land and at sea, where you can pick up gear, seeds, and healing and status restorative items, there are places you can go that stand out from their surroundings and when you go there, monsters aren't hostile if they show up there at all and you can usually find items in chests, barrels, or hanging bags, and the graphics are so good. If you liked how Octopath looked, it's Dragon Quest III like that and the style lends itself to fleshing out the towns and dungeons like never before and they look so good now. For years, I was a GBC port stan, but after this, with these graphics and the best music of any version, I can only go back to it for nostalgia. And on the subject of not hostile monsters, you can participate in the Monster Arena now, and those not hostile monsters are the ones you recruit for it. And they programmed the need to do a little work for it. They are all over the place and you can't just approach them. Some might be willing if you go over to them, but others might run when they notice your party's presence or bolt at the scent of humans compared to monsters. If they run, it's best to pay attention to why. And some monsters, you can get duplicates of and when you do, the first one you recruited will be powered up. And there's boss battles where there previously were none to flesh out the story, and a bunch of other things I feel I've rambled on long enough to not need to go into, but I do believe what I have told you and what I haven't are enough to make it worth the price. But if full price is an issue for any reason, I had extra money at launch and bought it day of, I'm sure it'll be on sale on Steam or PlayStation Store at some point.
The clickbait rage videos act like this has been the only time 14s story has been subpar, and there's no hope for redemption in the future. I'd love the story to be amazing, it was great in some parts for DT especially in the first half. I don't see why we have to once again put up with people demanding the game dies and EVERYONE uninstalls. And anyone here for story would've finished the story I feel in their sub anyway.
I think less players is good, i much preffered the community when it was smaller back before covid brought an wave of new players during Shadowbringers. My only problem is that since then, with things like DC travel and a new DC to accomodate to that new playerbase size, it feels like the players are more spreaded out so it feels kinda lonely, specially if you're like me and don't live on Aether where all the players go to play.
You're right, there's something to be said about the smaller, tighter-knit communities we had before Shadowbringers. 💜 But as someone from Dynamis, I enjoy traveling to Crystal or Primal in order to play with others. Halicarnassus definitely feels lonely sometimes, and Aether is always too congested. lol
I'm so sorry for you. And if you were an OG fan like me, I'm sorry for your loss. 💜 A part of me died around the 10 hour mark, and I'll never get it back.
Community The game is dying,no seriously it’s dying!!!! Me playing since A realm reborn. Getting my popcorn for the next drama to unfold…. Jokes aside I played the game already when it was less populated, still was fun and we already had enough players to enjoy the game back then. We will be fine:)
You're absolutely right. 💜 Back in ARR days you could have a lengthy DF wait as a DPS if you were doing obscure content, but now you don't even have that problem - with Duty Support and DC travel you can go where the people are. I think they've done a pretty good job already at future-proofing the game against a dwindling population.
@@gamer_debbie Oh, I remember back in a day it could take up to 2 hours to find a group for 8 man guildhests even if you queued as a healer! However, that was just enough for me to finish my Uni homework, so when duty finally popped, I was ready :D
I just tell a lot of these players to go play Destiny 2 if they want to see what a truly awful product looks like. Final Shape was incredible and then it immediately hit rock bottom with Echoes and hasn't managed to recover since. Do I have my gripes? Absolutely, I'm actually frustrated that I'll have to wait until 8.0 for Machinist to hopefully be great, meanwhile Pictomancer is overtuned probably because Yoshi-P mains it now
Or as another example - PSO2NGS turning into gooner dress-up anime/vtuber collab game instead of, you know, being a proper Phantasy Star game. If anything, DT story is way better than anything we got in NGS so far.
The lack of casual content is probably a big reason why people are so easily giving it up for other games atm. I'm sorry I didn't mention it specifically. But I definitely tried to avoid ignorance and BS and tried to explain my pov the best I could. What should I have done differently?
The “ffxiv is losing players” is a running clickbait thing that happens the year after every expansion, it’s written by people for drama and clicks, and in worse cases: to coerse people to leave for another game. Ffxiv IS losing players, currently, it always does after each expansion, but it will gain those numbers back AND MORE with the release of each concurrent expansion. It’s a subscription based game, not everyone will stay always subscribed. Don’t forget it’s an onlin game…That sold out of space..it is online.,and it ran out of space. It’s not in danger, it’s simply in a quiet phase
My problem with FFXIV is that to me it is like watching a movie and once in a while you get to play a game. I keep trying it every few years and I just can because it doesn't feel interactive enough. I do like your video because it is a rare balanced view and provides good advice. People don't need to crap all over a video game just because they aren't having fun. They should just take a break.
I can understand why you feel that way. Thank you so much for sharing your experience! 💜 I still believe that the game shouldn't lock itself behind the story because there are players who would rather just get into the game and play with others. I hope one day they make it possible. And thank you! I try my best to encourage discourse, and I respect everyone who shares an opinion without judging others or being defensive. My videos aim to encourage people of varying perspectives to comment.
Yes less players is a bad thing! The last few years has gotten to the point that I don't even bother trying to make friends, they never hang around long enough anyway
I'm sorry that is your experience! I was online last night visiting Primal, and there were people everywhere! Maybe it just depends what world you are on? I know sometimes Dynamis can feel a little empty depending on the date/time.
When you shut out half the audience with a pc narrative designed for 6 year olds... you lose players. Especially a game designed around the story. Shocker..

As a player why should we care about how many players are in the game? More isnt always better from a player perspective. The community of FFXIV was great even when it was smaller.
You're right. 💜Honestly, the only thing that will change for me, a Dynamis-main, is that I'll have to go back to DC-hopping to get some roulettes/PVP done. But you're right - DC/world populations outside of that won't change enough to make a big difference, except that maybe some more houses might come up for grabs.
When you realize that a game is made by a company and when a company sees a product not selling they will slowly stop supporting and selling that product. That's when you understand player numbers matter.
@@yungchimp Unfortunately SE's mentality does not work this way because when they saw a giant increase in players from the WoW exodus they decided to pull the dev team off the game and have them make FF16 instead. They are cashing out the good will they have built up over the years to bleed the game dry.
@@yungchimp it's good for the company to have as many people as possible paying money but many MMOs are still around with a smaller player base. Like I said a smaller more tight knit community isn't always a bad thing from a player perspective.
Honestly the "dead" calling a game seriously has to stop. Any game these days loses 5 players from their peak numbers it's "dead", "dying" or "garbage. It's all engagement and rage bait. But that kinda talk DOES undeniably hurt the game. Because no potential new player wants to hop on a "dying" game. So please stop. If you no longer enjoy the game, you're more than welcome to leave.
How is it not a bad thing? I swear all u ff14 players act like ff14 cant die but love talking about world of Warcraft if one expansion is bad ya think is gonna die and FF 14 was gonna take over news flash wow remains king of mmoa gtfo
(Commenting before I watch the vid) Of course it's "losing players", there's not alot going on right now AND other games like Marvel Rivals are hot, or got updated too! Once they're done and/or more stuff drops in FFXIV, they'll be right back to idling in Limsa!
As someone who's played since very early Heavensward, AND who doesn't rely on the game to make an income, I'm probably in a better spot than most to have an informed opinion on the current state of the game. It's alright, and it WILL improve the second we get exploration content. They're also fixing some long-standing issues, which is nice. So let's address each major complaint: "Job design is boring": Almost exclusively stated by exactly 3 players. Astro Mains, Old Summoner Mains, and Dark Knight Mains. Astro and Dark Knight have always historically been the problem children in terms of job design, so their complaining is nothing new, you learn to tune it out. Old Summoner Mains have been peeved for almost 4 years, and still haven't gotten over the job being reworked. Understandable, but also kinda just... get over it at this point? "No variety in job design": Let me introduce you to Heavensward job design, where 5 entire classes were non-viable in high-end content for most of the expansion. We've all heard the Machinist players complaining about their job being kinda mid, now imagine that for HALF the existing jobs. You have two options, relatively balanced jobs which can ALL reliably clear content, or 'diverse' jobs where half of them don't work, and you get flamed for experimenting. "The netcode": Your 300ms ping isn't SE's issue. Get better internet, or deal with it. If I can blatantly greed in AoE's and not get slapped for it, then it DEFINITELY isn't the 'netcode'. "Dawntrail's Story": Play Genshin Impact from Mondstadt to Natlan, THEN get back to me on yapping. Sure, Dawntrail wasn't Peak Fiction like Endwalker, and maybe Wuk Lamat did have a yapping problem, but hey, at least she isn't Paimon, and at least you can skip cutscenes if Wuk starts nervous-yapping. And let's be honest with ourselves, a 'good story' for MMO's isn't exactly a high bar to reach. Dawntrail was alright, and that's all I expected. "Quality of life": Let's be honest with ourselves, this is mostly glamour plate complaints, and THIS is a fair complaint. We've needed more glamour plates for a while now, and I wouldn't say no to 30 plates. I think a core thing people need to realise, is how the devs are likely basing their entire design philosophy for the game on the exact opposite of whatever early Heavensward was doing. Early Heavensward was the lowest point for the game since 1.0 crashed and burned, and not enough people realise that. There's a WORLD of difference between "Game's kinda boring and safe at the moment" and "Half the classes are non-viable, the raid scene's on fire because of literal gear checks, crafting/gathering sucks, Diadem sucks, Lords of Verminion died on launch, the relic series was mid, the Alliance Raid sucks, the aetheryte placement is the worst we've ever had, etc, etc."
Finally someone who is a real WoL. I subscribed immediately and I unsubscribed to those youtubers with lots of complaints about DT. Like ARR was also very boring before and also same with Stormblood but both ended with a Blast! I hope those youtubers who criticize the game should just quit and move on. Why make content out of it? for what? to get sympathy?
Thank you so much! 💜 I can't imagine putting out content that divides or upsets the community for the sake of clicks or $$. But I suppose if you are a big enough creator that you have staff and other bills to pay, you need to make sacrifices for the business. This channel will always be a labour of love alone.
fair weather players, either they've been playing so long everything is done or they don't care about alternate content. Leves are a 5 plus year thing on their own. people just want the main content and then they go back to COD or whatever thing they came from. rather the toxic part timers be gone anyways.. expansion release was horrible with all the people with attitudes coming out of the woodwork.
Fairweather? People play and pay for the game when its good. It's not an abusive relationship where you're expected to continue being a paying customer when you aren't enjoying the game and there is nothing wrong with that. I know people that have been playing the game for 5+ years and they also hated Dawntrail's launch. In fact, the people who have played the game longest are the ones most upset with the game now. Personally, as someone who is looking forward to the new content, the fact that we went from a 3 month patch cycle to 5 or even 6 months is insane and is going to make a lot of people unsub for a few months at a time. It's a big ask to pay for 12 months of subtime for 2 patches worth of content.
I understand what you're saying. Everyone's entitled to an opinion, but why take the time to share a negative one if you're not attached enough to the game to want to see it change for the better? There are some people who are really invested in the game, and who play it as their primary/only game, and feel like their voices aren't being heard over all the others.
It makes me want to compare patch sizes in terms of new items/quests/qol updates now and in the past to see if they are making up quantity with quality. I honestly can't speak to whether or not we are getting less now than before, or if they are just spacing it out more. After playing EQ back in the day though, I'm glad expansions are still a few years apart, because having to pay expansion money every year or two on top of sub cost would be a killer for me. The 'free' content can come when it comes.
as someone who absolutely loves this game and pays $24 a month for it, I am looking at it from I guess a different perspective. I also had 12 years in Everquest from 99-11, patch schedules are what they are. I find it absolutely funny as can be how people will defend the game blindly like music almost. Not really sure what was so negative, it was an observation. at launch everything was packed, within a month I had all jobs maxed and watched the fall off of the mass players. Everyone plays for their own reasons.. I'm a collector and achievement hunter I'll be grinding this game for as long as it's around. My gaming channel has already proven to me how sensitive this community is. I've been told to delete the and myself by people watching my videos. and yet I'm the one in the wrong for pointing out things and trying to make decent vids foe people. Some play for the storyline other play for the content, others play for the adult entertainment (not a fan) the brand spectrum of this game is what makes it so good. People in general just like to complain. Any game will have good and bad points, it's life, nothing is perfect.. roll with it and keep going, or do you divorce your spouse at the first argument ? I'm in it for the long run not till I find something that makes me upset. This the first game that's ever made me cry cause of the story, I'm not giving up on it cause of one meh expansion.
If I have to be 100% honest my concern with the game isn't the state of it, since usually games like this have its ups and downs, its how it might effect it since Square does have a history of shutting down a lot of their live service games with no hesitation. Yes most of those games were not great (in fact some might be straight up garbage) but so was 1.0 and look what they did to it. I admit I have a habit of expecting the worst outcomes and it'll probably won't happen (at least not in the near future) but I can't stop thinking about it.
As a 1.0 beta and legacy player:
FFXIV runs on a cycle of hype and downturns.
As we are in a more seasonal downturn, expect the following -
Statments that the game 'never was that good'
People with negative politcal biases taking pot shots at their favorite things to hate.
@@KalarMeadia Finally an intelligent statement
Yeah, SE shifting back to 19 week patch cycles in Endwalker makes things a bit sparse if you don't have something going on. There are things to do in the downtime, but it really depends on how much FF14 you wanna play when it's in a downswing or just play something else?
The only correct take.
It's not a bad thing.
Except it's the only game financially supporting the company.
You're not wrong.💜 It is a bad thing to prop up an entire company on one MMO, to it's own detriment, though.
The story needs a new starting point, its too long and its becoming a barrier to entry.- Yoshi P "No"
Theyve been told we need time and time again that we want customization of gear. Its boring and lacking. - Yoshi P "No"
Theyve been told time and time again that the class rotations needs more varitety and complexity and to do away with the Burst window. Having everyone play the same way is not fun. - Yoshi P "No"
Theyve been told time and time again to show dont tell more of the story parts. We want to be the ones do the cool stuff we see in cutscenes. We did not say to just add more cutscenes. - Yoshi P "No"
They have been told time and time again that the content needs a rework. From Fates, quests, to maps. Etc. Its all the same just a different zone. - Yoshi P "No"
They have this road map of "Lets do what we did last time just in this xpac and zone" that isnt gonna cut it anymore.
It's not a bad thing, but it kind of indicates how bad Dawntrail is... I rate it below ARR. That's how bad it was - to me.
And even WoW Retail is pretty good right now. There's been a lot of competition -- GOOD competition -- for our attention span lately.
The biggest threat I can see for FFXIV is its depentense on SE as they seem generally really eager to screw things up as of late.
I agree with this. Larger companies seem all too eager at the moment to explode themselves. I am just... baffled.
No, 4 month patch cycles have not turned into 5 or 6 months, this is just false. It has predictably been 4 and a half months since Covid days.
I love xiv but its dogshit right now.
It has nothing to do with the story the combat itself has been trash since stormblood ended
they should make it a solo game where i can use cheats and 1 hit kill bosses so i dont die of boarded
New expansion storyline killed it for me. 4 out of 10. Even the worst expansion for me was still a 6.5. :/
@@Tory-JJ fr at least the kugane half of stormblood was good
I'm not going to defend DT, but I hope you consider coming back when the hype for 8.0 starts! 💜
My problem is that none of the other games coming out right now look interesting to me. The next three months are going to be a slog.
Servers are still congested. Housing wards are still full. Lonely catboys are still seeking companionship on Party Finder.
Home sweet home. 😉💜
lol they are just monitoring servers to pay less?are you this oblivious of the ways of the world?theres a reason they went with cloud servers and seriously its not for stability but control over the numbers so they can control the server workload, there is 500 k less player right now the numbers are out(and remember we barely ever where 1.3 million active )
I don't understand how Veilguard being bottom of the barrel, excuses for what Dawntrail did in their MSQ.

It's not clickbait, its from a source that always does these kind of population checks around patch releases.
FR bro, i genuinely wish i could play those again, we need more content where i don't have to bother spending 10 hours learning how to do savage raids
I hope more players unsub out of protest!
most people that unsub usually dont come back and the TLDR why the game is loosing players in my opinion is that the game is to formulaic msq aside as i consider it to be subjective the content is same old same old aside from chaotic its pretty much the same every expansion casuals who only do the story now dont like the story and stopped playing the endgame players are left disappointed with this recent savage and ultimate being too easy so the question is who is the target audience for this expansion? im not gonna write this expansion off yet but so far content wise its very lackluster chaotic is probably the best content out right now but can it last till the next major patch ? its no wonder why people are unsubbing the patch cycles are getting longer and longer
with the content lulls are getting longer as well i am not a doomer but the devs really need to get their shit together if they want this game to last another 10 years in my opinion
Every one after Zodiac or HW relics has just looked like an overly glorified stupid holloween weapon keyblade on the sword user side.
the content is boring predictive lazy slop with dance to the rythym fights while
classes are not unique anymore they take all
the earnings and fund other projects and refuse to innovate upgrade and thats a fact
Just curious, which MMO are you playing then that you prefer?
@gamer_debbie none i stopped playing lazy slop until something of quality comes out
- Open world dead, locations from prev expantions empty
- Outdated method of storytelling on ARR, ShB, SB and even in DT so on with tons of boring cutscenes with no VA, usls text and 0 interactive in quests, 99% is take-give or kill 2 worms
- Mount system is boring and outdated - there is no mounts like in GW2, ever not like in WoW with cool and dynamic dragonriding, mounts summoning for a several afk seconds is cringe.
- UI is totally outdated (especially map)
- Glamour and chests system are outdated (tons of different type of chests = cringe)
- Server system with datacenters, no crosserver is totally outdated
- Battle system and netcode are awful and outdated
- No character customization (talents, passives and so on), gear is boring and completely usls.
@Atrialpwnz Those all still seem like personal preferences to me, even if you’re framing them as ‘objective flaws’:
1. You don’t like the server system because it forces you to log out after 30 minutes of AFK instead of letting you idle endlessly, which sounds more like a preference for convenience than a real issue
2. You hold your time so dearly that waiting a single second to summon a mount is apparently a dealbreaker (Though I will admit, GW2’s mount system is genuinely great, and it would be cool to see FFXIV take some inspiration there)
3. On class customization, I completely disagree. FFXIV’s job system prioritizes balance, ensuring that every job is viable for any fight in the game, allowing players to use their favorite job without worrying about being excluded. Adding talent trees or heavy customization would inevitably lead to meta builds dominating and gatekeeping players who don’t conform-something XIV actively avoids
imagine telling a game company that losing players is fine 🤭.
good vid tho 👍

Tell me what review of DT was positive?
You describe the future I hope time-travel will fix. I lost Bioware. I can't lose SQUEENIX. My heart isn't strong enough. 💜
@@gamer_debbie Well I'd def brace yourself for the worst here
Not like the money from all the players went back into the game anyway so reduced player count wont effect that.
Likely for a few reasons:
- Outside of high-end content, there is not that much to do right now.
And same.

If a MMO does not provide enough content for a stable player base to stay than its a failed MMO. Most people want to invest a lot of time into a MMO and basically make it their main game which FF14 with DW has failed to do. Most people wont be back as they are stuck now in other better MMOs.
Then why am I still here? Lol
Y'all really think the entire game should be trashed
Isn't 1 million players a stable player base? Just because it's dropping a bit, doesn't mean it's dead, right?
@gamer_debbie they'll take ANYTHING as ammo
They're like vultures, parasites.
As if being intelligent and well-reasoned were NOT click-bait. Good one Debbie 😏

Destroying mods with the graphics update honestly did kill a huge portion of the social side of the game, and many still havent come back at all. Idk I dont find DT any worse or better than the other expansions when they were in their X.15 phase. Heck DT is way better than Heavensward was at that point in its life.
Yeah keep coping
Will do! Thank you! 💜🫡
You got that right
@@gamer_debbie I say Dragon Quest III HD-2D is well worth the price of admission in any currency.

Thank you so much! 💜 After the MSQ there is still so much else to do, it becomes a faded memory. I still haven't done any of the role quests. lol
Is this league of legends wild rift?
Wow so edgy and creative f weetawd
(Commenting before I watch the vid)
Of course it's "losing players", there's not alot going on right now AND other games like Marvel Rivals are hot, or got updated too! Once they're done and/or more stuff drops in FFXIV, they'll be right back to idling in Limsa!
Legit. First thing that comes to the mind of any reasonable person! But the internet is not reasonable and some people believe whatever they hear.
@@gamer_debbie yeah! ...my condolences for Veilgaurd, by the way 🙏
As someone who's played since very early Heavensward, AND who doesn't rely on the game to make an income, I'm probably in a better spot than most to have an informed opinion on the current state of the game.
It's alright, and it WILL improve the second we get exploration content. They're also fixing some long-standing issues, which is nice.
So let's address each major complaint:
"Job design is boring": Almost exclusively stated by exactly 3 players.
I dont plan on returning. The ganes so patch cycle is just lame as hell.
I mean, that's a strange reason to stop playing. I guess you haven't been playing for too long/aren't invested?
Ffxiv has become the Echo Chamber
Ffxiv is the next Bluesky
I'll try to remember that next time I'm in Frontlines. 😉
Copium
For what?
If I have to be 100% honest my concern with the game isn't the state of it, since usually games like this have its ups and downs, its how it might effect it since Square does have a history of shutting down a lot of their live service games with no hesitation.
Yes most of those games were not great (in fact some might be straight up garbage) but so was 1.0 and look what they did to it. I admit I have a habit of expecting the worst outcomes and it'll probably won't happen (at least not in the near future) but I can't stop thinking about it.
