- In “The Lost Story of Emmett Till: Then & Now,” the third and final installment of NBC Chicago's docuseries about Emmett Till, investigative journalist Marion Brooks travels to Mississippi and uncovers the most startling, previously unknown facts that provide the biggest updates to Emmett’s story in recent memory.
The strength of Emmitt's mother is astounding. Incredible lady.
She was the one who reported Emmett's father for abuse, and that's why he was forced to enlist in the military. While in Italy, he murdered white women and was hanged.

The woman who lied on Emmitt and got him killed is still alive and walking around. Let that sink in.
Yeah! There's concrete proof already.
She is 88 and in a nursing home, possibly has dementia
That's crazy isn't it? And here I thought there was no statue of limitations on murder? This woman set up an innocent child to be slaughtered and massacred
I don't care how old she is, she should have been sitting in jail instead of getting to enjoy her life.
@@reneetrosper-jones4650 Yes ,in the past, she should have been given a sentence (and her husband and brother in law should have been given sentences longer than her.)
But right now its unlikely she actually remembers anything and will die soon, so it is too late.

Ok, you post this comment on every thread I’ve looked at, and I have to ask, against my better judgement, why? Yes, it was horrific what they went through yet you seem to be trying to conflate the two. It’s NOT the same and I believe you know that, but are just trying to stir up crap for the sake of it. The people who did those heinous things were tried and found guilty whereas the murderers of Till never received the punishment they damn well deserved because the system back then didn’t seem to care about justice for black people.
RIP Emmett, am so sorry about what you went through. You had one heck of a mother!!

@@hankramirez3256 You can't be serious?... he was a 14yr old that went through hell at the hands of a couple of "adult' white males that chose to take offence with him bc he whistled at a "white'woman''
That was the extent of his "offence"& for that he was tortured to death over a period of some hours..
He was unrecognisable to his mother who found his body in a river 4 days later. His murder received no justice even though it was witnessed, arrests were made & was prosecuted.
His body was exhumed some yrs later & his body then looked better than his body did at his funeral....it was a terrible thing

I am not an American, but every time I hear about the barbaric, gruesome inhumane murder of Emmit Till I feel so heart broken. This is so so so sad. How can human be so cruel to each other. It looks like nothing has changed in America to this day.
Being cruel to a child Is even worse
That's because back then white thought they can lie on a black person n get them killed but if it was the other way around it a be a different outcome
You can believe that🙏🏼🙏🏼
As brutal and inhumane as Emmett's murder was, he is far from the thousands of black men, women and children who were brutally murdered and we NEVER heard about it!! White people in Money, Mississippi and the surrounding area, joked that the Tallahatchie river was "full" of black bodies!! Emmett's mother was incredibly brave to demand that his body be brought back to Chicago and his casket be open!! The majority of black people who lost loved ones to lynchings and murders quietly buried their dead and didn't talk about it. Even though Emmett's case was nationally reported on, his family said they almost never talked about it. One of Emmett's cousins who was with him in bed when he was kidnapped, said that he didn't even tell his wife for like 8 years that he was cousins with Emmett. Willie Reed, the young man who heard Emmett's screaming said he didn't tell his wife about it for several years!! That was the only way these people could deal was by not talking about it. I'm sure all of them suffered from PTSD
Some things have changed for the good, but more can be done

He DID NOT WHISTLE. This CHILD had a SPEECH IMPEDIMENT. I read MRS. TILLS STORY. In her writings ,she would tell Emmett when he gets nervous or anxious, SLOW, down and take your time to speak. Take a deep breath and WHISTLE, getting his words together.
You said he did not whistle then turned around and said he whistled. He did indeed whistle but not at the lady but as you said Mrs Till did say he had speech issues (stutters) and she had told him to whistle as you have said, and take a deep breath and take his time to get his words together.
Come on Kim. I'm almost 70 and uh, no.
Your comment is so goofy. Get your head in the game or let it go please. And the all CAPS too? Come on lady!
Emmitt's cousins who were with him at the store said he did indeed whistle.
INTERESTING! NEVER KNEW HE USED WHISTLING AS A TYPE OF COPING MECHANISM FOR HIS SPEECH IMPEDIMENT, THANKS FOR THAT INFO.
Poor Emmit. He seemed to be a nice kid. I hope he is at peace and watching over all of us as an angel.
I'm told that Carolyn lives somewhere in KY
He was sent to live with his cousins because he'd been assaulting women while living with his mother.
What’s so crazy is that the pics we see now of Emmett isn’t even how he looked when she first went into the box. It was ALOT worse which is so sad. Mamie till said in interviews that His face and head were in two separate pieces, all his teeth gone with the exception of only 2 of them. His ears ripped off. Just so vile. The pics we see now are after the work they did on his face
You are right. She talks about how his tounge was protruding from his mouth and resting on his chin.
Absolutely disgusting! Those men (what an insult to even call them that) projected their vile and evilness onto Emmett. That poor kid.

Emmett Till did not die in vain. Since this heinous crime was committed four months before Rosa Parks' act of defiance, Till's murder may be considered the first event that galvanized the Civil Rights Movement in the United States. Unfortunately, sometimes it takes a tragedy to get people to rise up and demand that things change.
Actually you’re right. I heard that when Rosa Parks heard what happened to Emmet, that motivated her to sit in the bus.. so I’m thinking it was like the last straw. If it wasn’t for this tragic event who knows if she would have been motivated to do so.
@@bluewhale2600 I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for sharing. My grandfather born in 1900 in a farm house in Idaho traveled to Louisiana to visit his brother in the 1930's. It was the first time he traveled outside his state, let alone his hometown. Once he got into the South he said things changed. Blacks sat at the back of the bus, whites in the front. He never heard of segregation. He had never seen a black person in his life until he got into the Southern region of the United States. When they got into Louisiana the bus picked up new passengers, and let old ones off at the one of many bus stops in towns and cities back then. An older black men got onto the bus, but there were no empty available seats. Don’t worry! These horrible people may have not served justice for what they did to Emmett here on Earth. But, they got served when they stood before God. Murdering a child in the way Emmett was murdered isn’t something God overlooks. No way! The woman who lied about Emmett didn’t escape judgement either. I believe these three cretins are burning in hell and rightfully so. Emmett was tortured most likely for hours. I don’t think he was dead when they threw him into the river. It’s one of the reasoned they tied a fan to his neck. They didn’t want him to scream or be seen. That, and weighing him down would mean he wouldn’t be found. These people are not anywhere near Emmett in Heaven.
Sickening and disgusting…the real judgement will come for all of us…..RIP Emmett 😢🙏🏻
I'm from Greenwood, MS which is right by Money. Ashamed to say we didn't learn about Till in highschool. I ate at Bryant Grocery or whatever it was called then during the 80's. Had no idea of the history. And sadly a lot of people from the area still blame Till in a way for what was done to him. They say "he shouldn't have been down here." I think Marion Brooks (the reporter in this doc) started her career in Greenwood.
That's why Black folks should research their OWN History.....that store should have been boycotted forever.
Mamie…..YOURE THE HERO!
Carolyn Bryant’s day has finally come 👏🏿 she may have escaped punishment on earth but she will be burning in hell for what she has done. Rest In Peace Emmett your name will never be forgotten.
I pray your right ❤
What is really sad is that America needed a "law" to ban lynching, America needed a law in order for ppl to treat others with basic human dignity and respect. That is a sad testament of a nation who claims to be the land of the free and home of the brave. I will always remember the name of Emmet Till, a 14 year old young man torn away from life by hate, violence and ignorance. Emmett was deprived of life at 14, he would never know the joys of life, love, children of his own, the joys of being a property owner, a husband, he would never have a career all because of hate, fear and stupidity. Certain people in this country claim CRT is somehow racist, all I have to say to that is
#ConstantlyRemindedofTill
This country needs to come to terms with itself and it's history. The internet is here and history cannot be buried by some political personalities who wish it to be unseen because it hurts their entitled little feelings. It should hurt. I am certain what Emmett suffered hurt far worse.
I believe i watch this about 500 hundred times already and still watching this documentary is extremely good get something new everytime..wish this never happened but it did Emmett, his mother and family are strong people 💙 ❤ he didnt die in vain
It's sad how everything happened today. 😞 I cried just hearing what they've done to his face. I cried how Mamie (Emmitt Till's mother) fought to seek Justice and sadly never really got it. May Emmitt Till and his mother Mamie Till both Rest In Peace . 🙏 🙏🙏
Why do folks feel it necessary to post that they cried over calamity? Crying over such horror done to another human being is nothing special.
Tired of hearing the "I cried", "I'm in tears" mess.
@@yessumyessum6624 because it's human to cry over something that you heard happened being done to another person.

SMH my heart aches I recently begin teaching my daughter who is 5 about him. My son is 10 and when He first learned about this story he was about 7 or 8 and he was so down for a few days. One thing is for certain this wicked lady will reap what she has sown. The nerve of her thinking he was actually whistling at her. She was 26 but I’m sorry she looked 40 🫤

😂😂😂
That's so good. I taught my kids this story at the ages almost the same 5 and 8, this story was why my Mother and her siblings were put on a train out of Mississippi and brought to Oklahoma, so I have always been interested to keep learning more and more about it myself.
Did you teach them about the White couple raped and tortured to death by a group of black people in Knoxville?
Look up the case of Christopher Newsom and Channon Christian.
So glad to view this piece of American History. Essential for everyone to view and hear actual accounts of those who persevered to tell the truth. God Bless them all.❤
I’ve seen many documentaries on Emmitt Till and this one is really good. I learned some new information. This is such a heartbreaking story. I admire Ms. Till for trying to get justice for her baby.
A gross miscarriage of justice, heartbreaking, justice department is no better today
very very well put together documentary. a different look into this tragic case for history buffs like myself
Absolutely horrific. We as a human race need to examine ourselves and find out how and why these things happen. This wasn't that long ago, America. Continue to work towards love and compassion for ALL men.
Excellent documentary. Justice for Emmet always
i cant imagine what that kid went through. the women who lied about emmet knew he had a speech impediment and lied. and she is walking around with a kid and a husband i would turn her in myself if she was my mom or my wife idc how much i love her that is so wrong. she deserves nothing
You are the one who is a liar.
In 2020 fbi reopened the case and said there is nothing to charge her with
She has lived a quiet life hurting nobody
She is going to hell no doubt
@@shellygreen2238 then you would be just as bad as them. Vengeance is Mine sayeth the Lord!
Incorrect. She did Not know about Emmett's speech impairment.
You can't be serious about "turning her in if she were your wife"! It was HER husband who murdered Emmett!
she deserves to go through the pain emmet went through...if not much worse.
I often call his name. A horrific injustice against a child. My heart is with his Mom and Dad.
R.I.P. to Emmett Till and his brave mother
I’m so proud so say that my cousin won an Emmy for this production. It’s never too late to tell all parts of a story!!!!
His mum.....what a trooper!!!!
Sooo beautiful too
What a woman ❤
So sad. May God bless his soul and give him rest.
I cried throughout this documentary everything about this injustice is a horrific senseless crime .💔
When my mother heard the news about Emmitt Till she was crying for three days on and off throughout the day.
I asked her why is she was crying??.. she said a young black man was beaten so bad he was unrecognizable
two white men killed him because he whistled at a white woman, so then I asked her is it against the law to whistle???
She said no the two men racist against black people..😢
I asked her can I see his face in the casket??
See looked dead at me and said remember when you came to America and the kids in your classroom was bulling you beating you because you couldn't speak English and they hated you because your hair was very long and curly.
She said the two white men were racist and hated black people because of the color of our skin...😢
That was an outstanding documentary. I always admired Mamie and her strength and courage.
It's too bad that Carolyn Bryant never had to answer on this earth for what she did, but she does now in the next life. She died on April 25th at the age of 88.
What crime are you accusing Carolyn of?
@@gurnblanston3210 lying on the witness stand is perjury.
Man And The Cold Thing Is That Lady Is Still Alive
I am glad she is still alive because she had to live in seclusion for this crime her whole life. She lived a fate worse than death by being scared of being found out @ any time.
@@leroyjrpugh2040 : SO TRUE. YOU STILL HAVE PEOPLE FEEL THE SAME WAY SHE DID AND DO NOW IN 2023. THANK YOU MR. PUGH FOR YOUR COMMENT.

@@deirdrepasko9965 she still gonna endure that spiritual ass whooping for bearing false witness 🤷🏽♀️ she’s the devil the Bible speaks of there is no repentance for Edomites
There is justice on the Other Side waiting for them all ... including and especially her. May God have mercy on all their souls. They're gonna need it.
Great documentary. Thank you
Wonderful piece of work, Justice will be served one day 🙏👏, 👍❤️. Pura Vida
I dislike when they never hold the people accountable for actions they commit but give him her a day. A moment of time
Horrible it's truly heartbreaking how can humans treat other human beings like this ?
An truly ugly ugly day in America history
the living family needs to sue the witch that got this baby murdered
Rest in peace Emmett Till 🕊️
Amen 🙏
He's not resting in peace . He's dead!
His momma is the strongest woman I've ever heard of. And smart as anything. Even with all that she was dealing with, the thought to make such a bold, groundshaking choice. Phenomenal. 😊❤
I have PTSD from past trauma & I know he still hears those screams. He also still see that barn he was in, The flashes of images feel all to real 💔😭.
To a commenter from an English country. Coming from a European English country, it's unempathely to say we must let this go because the woman who caused Emmett Till's death is old now. But this happened to Aboriginal African Americans then and still is happening now. Can you say Chattel Slavery and Jim Crow Laws?
Wow this is a good one to get Chicago all riled up!
The sadest part is knowing she tried to clear her consciousness in the end.
