Thank you so much. I have the pattern and there were not enough visuals to understand the steps, and I have made several other bags, and Byannie doesn’t have a specific video. So this helped a lot!

This is such a great tutorial Diane. It is just so helpful to see your process to put it all together. So helpful. Thank you! I really appreciate the step by step with your personal interpretation.
Sorry about all the comments, I really like this vid.

Wonderful. At times I think I'm too wordy - and if I could just unlearn the expression "so". 🙃

I have avoided using spray adhesive because I thought it was too messy. Thank you for showing that on camera.

I normally put a towel under the project when it's a small project. I didn't have a towel in the office. This way we don't have spray on the cutting mat.

Thanks for this tip. I was wondering how you avoided getting overspray on the cutting board.

I use double stick fabric tape to baste my zippers in place. It removes the clumsy factor as well as the pokey pin problem. 😏

Great point - I will definitely try this method. I fuss a great deal.

Pellon two-sided fusible foam works much better than S & S--no spray basting, pinning, or walking foot needed.

There are so many options available aren't there! It's great becuase we all have our favorites/preferences. I tried the double fusible foam and I realized I'm not good at ironing the fabric without a wrinkle or two. I'm terrible at that.

I'm just getting ready to quilt this bag. I've never quilted anything before. What stitch length, and what thread weight etc. did you use for this? Also, do you typically quilt one line, and then go back to the top with the next line, or is it better to start each line from the top ( the same side?) Hope it's okay to ask such basic questions, but I love the bag, and want my first quilted thing to be nice. Thanks for your great video! You explain everything so well! Hope it goes as easy and fun as you make it look!

Great questions - I lengthen my stitch to 3.0. I use 40wt or 50wt thread. The heavier the thread the more decorative it can be. I quilt in one direction when I quilt straight lines.
Have a fun time sewing the pencil case!

What was the name of the fabric pencil you are using? Can't quite make out the name.

I bought the pattern but I'm more of a visual learner. I was stumped when I got to the part of sewing the second part of the zipper down. How do you do that with it in a tube? I was sad you didn't show that part. My solution was to open the zipper all the way, sew it down and then fight the zipper pull back on. I didn't see any other way 🤷‍♀️

You are right - I should have shown that step and I have no idea why I didn't. I sewed this two ways. The first time I actually pinned the zipper to the fabric and left the zipper closed - pushing the fabric/zipper through the sewing machine to secure the zipper. (not the best nor smartest way). The second time I unzipped the zipper and zipped it up after sewing the zipper on. You are correct in how you attached the zipper!

Hello. The Byannie website has public videos showing how to make quick zip cases. They may be helpful :)

This pattern is no longer free. Such a disappoint, I Purchased several ( many)patters to sharpen my skills to tackle the large duffel bag. Would have loved to conquer this project. To change something from free to charge is an indication of greed. I hope not, if this is so she will lose in the long run.

Hi - and thanks for your comment! I went to the ByAnnie website to search for the Pencil Case for Lola. I can't find the pattern on her site. My guess is that the Quick Zip Case has replaced the Pencil Case pattern. Please check with the ByAnnie team to see if they have options for a free Pencil Case pattern. I source our patterns directly from the By Annie team.
The zipper and internal binding steps are identical to the Easy Does It Bag pattern which I believe is free.
