This might be my first UA-cam comment but, kid, you saved me! I tried to wipe my work machine but also ended up deleting the startup disk and you helped me reload when I couldn't find the info anywhere else. The techs wanted to charge me $150. You're a lifesaver!

If this doesn’t work for you try (Option + Command + R) go to disk utility, select the top one, run first aid, if pass or fail click erase, format “APFS”! Once’s done with that reinstall macOS

I don't leave comments often, but your video deserved the recognition. I was able to fix my mistake when I was trying to wipe my computer before giving it to a family member. This worked like a charm. Thanks, this was better than the first 15 I watched. I used the extended (journaled) instead of the exfat, but followed the same steps and voila !!! Thanks again.

Of all the places I searched in the past several days, including mac expert websites, your video was the most helpful. I needed to fix my iMac 2017. I had to do a few things differently than what you explained. First, I needed to select MAC OS Journaled when erasing and reformatting. I checked everything after that with First Aid, as you stated, and all went well (finally). I didn't need to reboot. I just closed Disc Utility and begin the re-installation of OS. Now I'm back in and downloading all the updates. Things are working again. Thank you so much for your video. It helped me the most. 😃

If trying to recover through the internet have in mind that the apple servers have some connectivity restrictions and not keen allowing home routers and wifi connectivity based on the article at www.idownloadblog.com/2016/02/25/how-to-start-up-your-mac-in-internet-recovery-mode/
Make a hotspot on your iPhone that will allow you to connect to apple's servers via 4G as I did connect and it will allow you to download a disk utility for restoring your system based on the device you have. Then watch other videos or go to apple/support and search-related tips for restoring your Mac!! All the best !!!
Tip "DON'T" try to change your router's settings believe me your problems are going to grow exponentially !!!

Oh man I had high hopes and thought it would work for me. I chose the exfat and then restarted but when I went to install high sierra, a disk didn’t pop up (Mac HD) for me to continue the install. I then restarted again to try to erase as “Journaled” version but now the only internal disk that pops up is “Apple SSD SM0256L Media” and no other discs not even the AppleAPFSMedia

    • @jackiesasaki
      @jackiesasaki 2 роки тому +1

UPDATE: tried @MikeWaltonVideos comment and the disk popped up to continue with installation. Then it said “this disk doesn’t use GUILD Partition Map (which I didn’t select, I selected “Apple Partition Map” as per his video edit.

UPDATE: tried again except selected “GUID Partition Map” instead and it at least tried installing MacOS Sierra however right at the end said “An error occurred while preparing the installation. I was so excited to see this video. You are right there is nothing out there that explains it better than you. However, I am still stuck. I tried to erase in exfat mode and also in journaled mode and mounted, then tried to reinstall macOS Sierra on my MBP 2017. It still gives me an error at the end. I even tried to rename the drive as "Macintosh HD" both in fat and journaled mode but still to no avail. Very sad and frustrated. Help please!

Hey Youngblood. My problem is I'm replacing the HDD in my MacBook Pro 17" mid 2010 with a brand new 2TB Crucial SSD.
I'm using the online Recovery Method. I formatted the SSD as APFS. My problem is while installing MacOS High Sierra it never finished. My Mac restarts then that folder with the question mark shows up again.
When I look @ the MacOS download I see a folder named MacOS Install. In that folder is the AppleDiagnostic.dmg & four other files but a system folder was never created.
Can you possibly help me with this. I'm going to try what you just did here. I'll write another comment letting you know if I was successful or not.
    Thanx in Advance.

Check if your drive is functioning correctly, if there's nothing in the disk utility at all it is most likely a faulty drive.

I am trying to reinstall after deleting it previously for a new owner for my laptop. Now I want to install the OS. It keeps on giving me error saying "an error occurred when preparing the installation".
Changed the date and time still nothing.
So I am trying to start from the beginning by erasing everything again. APFS is greyed out. When I choose Mac OS extended journaled, it gives me an error.
