Edit: for M1, there will be an error in creating account / password in the setup. You have to factory reset twice by resetting the password via terminal on the second time. All of the references I’ve read only says delete the startup disk. The deletion of Data volume is a crucial part that they do not include on their articles. Even Apple’s support page is silent about what volumes to erase. Thanks to you man!

@@asskicker6200 steps to follow: shut down your computer remove the computer from any iCloud accounts (thanks for the edit, @abbaf33f) hold the power button until the "options" icon shows select the "options" icon when next screen loads, select menu item to launch terminal in terminal type "resetpassword" and hit enter when a reset password box appears, reveal a new menu by clicking somewhere off to the side of the reset password box (thanks for the edit, @brendan-duke!) select "Recovery Utilities" then "erase Mac"; in new pop up confirm option to erase Mac once erased, exit back to recover reinstall the operating system once installed, create the account. These are the steps that I followed when I got stuck on password error during setup after first reset. The second reset by following the steps above resulted to successful setup.

I have a big question. I just recently sold my macbook air. And I didn't follow the 3-steps ahead of signing out. I just pushed "command +r" and the formated the HD and reinstalled. While the new used have issues with installing or signing in on a a new apple-id?

Unfortunately, this video did not work for me and now have to take my MacBook to the store. I have a 2016 MacBook. Mac HD icon did not populate when it came time to reinstall MacOS. I played your video several times before going into this step. Praying that I don't have to pay anything to get the HD.

Overall pretty solid tutorial however when erasing the Macintosh HD Data part, don't keep deleting. I did and it said something along the lines of "apple ssd ap0256j container disk 3" so I had to re-partition the drive.
Idk what happened…I did the first step of deleting the hd data but then when I tried to delete the rest of the used storage I’m not sure what happened. Because when I tried to later update the software (when it says macOS Big Sur) there was no Macintosh HD disk to click. Now my Mac screen of black with a question mark icon…😭 I think I just killed my mac I’m so stressed rn. If annoying can help pls lmk

I followed your directions and everything was going well until the 10:23 mark. When I erased Machintosh HD - Data, the Machintosh HD on top of it turned into "APPLE SSD Media" and Machintosh HD - Data turned into Container disk3. Furthermore, when I try to install the OS (the following step) I'm asked to select a disk for the install but there are none to choose from. Any idea how I can fix this?

Good Tutorial on resetting Mac however the procedure for Macbook Pro 2015 was a little different, you have to hold the command + R button and then press the power button and keeping holding the power button until we see the Recovery Mode. Rest of it holds good.
