I'm an Iowa Cubs season ticket holder and when Mervis came back down this year, he was an emotional mess, which is reflected in his stats this year in Iowa. Bursts of anger and visible frustration. I'm glad he is getting a chance with another organization and I wish him nothing but the best.
Not every player hits the ground running their first year in the big leagues. Anthony Rizzo hit .141 for the Padres his rookie year but found his stroke after the Cubs acquired him. I suspect Mervis will do the same for the Marlins. With the Cubs, he was expected to be a game-changer. In Miami, he can relax and play ball.
Mervis needed more time and hopefully he will get it with the Marlins when the Cubs got Busch it was probably a blow to his confidence. Now that Busch has somewhat proven himself and if Mervis wanted a chance to play in the big leagues sooner rather than latter it was best for him to be traded to a team where he may get that chance.
I reallyyyyy hope Matt goes on and mashes and becomes an All Star and more. Great guy. IMO, he got F’d up by Jed by Jed signing bullshit like Hosmer and Mancini and got blocked if you ask me. His call up wasn’t the way it should’ve been. He needed runway as much as PCA did.
With Michael Busch solidly at first base with the Cubs and Mervis getting to be an older minor leaguer at first base it didn't look good. Same situation with Busch and the Dodgers who had Freddy Freeman. Busch to the Cubs solved a lot of problems. Here's hoping Mervis gets his mind right and plays well for the Marlins.
Mick i know you liked Mervis, but it was time to send him away. Mervis lost his train ticket to Wrigley long ago. Cubs got a more "usable" player and while Brujan numbers are not great, they have improved every season for the last 4 years.. His numbers last years were better than Mastro in all aspects BA/OBP/SLUG.. he's quicker and can steal more bases and he's also a switch hitter.

Thanks your consistent content 🙏🏻 always look for your videos when moves are made.
You bet!
Just hope Mervis goes and does well.
I like Mervis. He never really got a chance here. Hope he does well with the Marlins. Sounds like they got a decent utility man. Great show Mick
Hey Mick hate to see Mervis go but he had his chances hope he does well in Miami thanks Mick!

Good luck mash.
We got a switch hitting Miles Mastrobuoni with no minor league options left. He will be DFA'd before the season even starts.

I hope Mervis thrives in Miami.
I love Mash Mervis, hate seeing him go
What are they going to be for a backup first base and a thirdbase also
I'd like them to pick up Justin Turner
Is this considered a major move by Jed at this point?
So far this is a 3rd place roster at best.
Good luck to Mervis. I hope he does well.

Brujan gives me Jose Macias/Manny Alexander vibes.
So Vidal Bruján is basically today's version of Larry Bowa. Got it.
Loved Bowa!
Let's hope so. ❤
What's with the backwards hat? 🧐
Do the Cubs still have Vazquez?

Mervis will get a chance in Miami especially they don't have a 1st baseman in Miami system
I definitely felt like Mervis looked uncomfortable at the plate. Maybe as a marlin he can learn how to relax and just play.
I hate trades like this because it’s hard to figure. Brujan? Seriously? He’ll be traded or released, I hope.
Disagree here ...Mervis was never given a great chance...90 ABs in a season is NOT a great chance. But it's pretty clear Busch is better.
I understand that Mervis had no place in the Cubs system, but come on, the guy they got for him is a bum.

Better average than Dansby
Good riddance he was an eyesore in the majors. It was a trade for nothing for nothing.
This team is a shit show.
