Mets already offered him a 158 million dollar deal a year ago and he turned it down. A first baseman who is mediocre defensively is simply not worth 30 million a season unless its a Frank Thomas and Alonso is not that. Bring in Satander and stick him at first and trade for Castillo and sign Bregman and win the world series.

@@homerunhitters333you must be delusional Pete Alonso has been declining the last two years... This clown is a strike out king with 175 last year... He reminds me of Dave Kingman... They offered him 3 years 90 million... That's more than he deserves... He's not worth 30 million a year.. That's why nobody is bidding for him... He's not clutch.. He strikes out with men on base.. That's why he had only 88 Rbis ... They need to go after Vlad.... Sterns knows what he's doing.. If he doesn't take the 90 million... They need to move on... I'm tired of losers like him... Pete is not one dimensional he plays an average to just above average 1st base if you have watched EVERY game he's played (I have I watch every game every year) he has saved all the infielders sooooooo many errors with his picks and stretches so your argument is extremely flawed! I'm so tired of everyone killing Pete for this and that the man has hit 40+ and driven in 100+ every year (except 24 and covid shortened 2020) he plays EVERY day he's proven in NY wants to be in NY and be a career NY Met and he proved he can come up big in the post season then you add in the fact he rolled his truck and still showed up at the park ready to play plus he's been hit in the HEAD multiple times and hasn't come out of said games so I ask you what the hell more does he have to do!!!

@MetCast Stop shouting into the mic, friend. It's offputting and will limit your reach. Take, say, three voice lessons, learn to modulate, learn to invite your viewers into the frame. ----It was well understood that 7/158m the Eppler-Cohen Mets offered Alonso included his final arb year, so it was more like 6/134 for his FA years. You have to know the basics.
Nor can you offer a player like Pete, already down to 2.1 fWAR at age 29 and in steep decline, any sort of player opt-out that he's 80-90% to accept as that decline continues. It would be the height of foolishness.
Why would you even mention Frank Thomas, an all-time great hitter with a 181 OPS+ through age 29 lacking even a hint of decline? Thomas's worst season ages 22-29 was vastly better than Pete's best year, the year of baseball's juiced ball.
The chance of Pete being productive at 34? There's a solid chance Pete isn't even a 2-win player in 2025. No one who fails to do the research appears to understand that R-R 30 yo 1Bmen have dismal performance curves at 30 and older. The number of such 1Bmen during the entire expansion era who today would be worth 3/90m is perhaps a dozen---in 63 years. What is it about Pete that makes anyone believe he'll beat the almost inevitable steep decline? The short answer, is Nothing.
3:10 - You don't know that RBIs and such performance clauses are not permitted by the MLBPA? You have to know the basics.
No escalators, no opt-outs. It doesn't even make sense for the Mets to offer Pete a contract that pretends to be a pillow contract, something like 1/30m. Why would you cement the majors' worst corner IF defense for as long as you sign Pete? Vientos is a competent 1Bman. If he's just average at 1B you pick up around a win versus the defense Pete will post in 2025. That alone rates to be around half of Pete's value in 2025. Why therefore would you give him 30m just to ensure terrible D at the corners in 2025?
