Audio engineer here.......not screaming, your tutorials always sound great!!! Those frequencies you picked are spot on common trouble areas in a lot of raw recorded audio, thanks for all your help with the fcp/motion community!
This has been an absolutely amazing video. I learnt so much and need to rewatch this tutorial numerous times - so many effects to consider or steps to incorporate, not the least the shortcut keys. Thank you ever so much and I decided to incorporate some of the recommended audio with a video that I am editing at the moment, and holy moly is that a great recommendation. A huge thanks for everything and can't wait to rewatch this, making a note of some of the shortcuts and recommendations for a future video.
Holy Blast of Skills Batman! I've been editing in FCP for over 10 years and still learn stuff from you every time I watch one of your videos. Sadly it also costs me money since you seem to always have some plugin I don't have but should ;-)
I LOVE THIS!!! Well done Dylan!!! Great to see your workflow pal!! 👍
THE VIDEO I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR. Thank you so much, Dylan!!!
EDIT: Dang, I was wondering how to cloned yourself. Now I know. 😬 Thanks again for sharing all those details.
One question though, how do you record your actual screen?
He might be using Quick Time Player which is very convenient for Screen Recording in Mac or OBS.
@@_CodeWithSanjeev Hey! I did that with my last tutorial, but the file was ENORMOUS (about 110gb after an hour of recording, hah). Plus the export took ages and I thought, if Quick Time crashes, I'm screwed.
Would love to get a better alternative that writes the files while recording, and maybe creates smaller files.
I do use QuickTime Player! However space is less of an issue for me since I purchased a 50tb NAS. That said, the file sizes you mentioned are much larger than what I typically see. usually an hour recording on QuickTime for me is around 6-8 gb I think. Are you recording at 4K?
I do highly recommend OBS or Ecamm Live for screen recording! OBS is free, and Ecamm Live is just more user friendly, but also a monthly subscription.
you can record much smaller file sizes, and it generates the files as you’re recording, so crashing isn’t an issue.
Really appreciate the super thanks!!
Thanks Dylan, am indeed recording in 5K on a Studio Display. So maybe that’s the problem. Maybe turning down the resolution would be an option. Will take a look at everything. And holy cow, 50 TB. 😂
@@TechWandererYTwhat you can do is to have a Compressor setting ready to convert your screen recording to an mp4 HEVC file that’s high enough quality… then delete the source afterwards if you think you will never need it and edit with that.
If you are on any of the recent M1s, this tends to be VERY fast: both the conversion and the editing itself from an mp4 file.
Your Editing Workflow is amazing
Do you have any videos about how you made the preset for zooming in 30% and keeping your eyeline in the same place? That would be SO helpful!!! 🙏
Always love your content Dylan! Keep it going 🔥
Super awesome video, man! I would like to ask you about your mouse and keyboard clicks, I do lot of video for presentations, tutorial and so on and I use an app calles Keybell that generates click sounds but it embed them into the same voiceover track, how do you manage to separate them? Thanks and keep rockin' bro!
EVERY video you put out has tons of great tips! Thanks as always. Amazing job.
Very many thanks Dylan. Great tips!
Great skills and techniques on offer - thanks for sharing this!
Appreciate you so much Iain!
Great video, a lot of useful tips in here. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome! I appreciate this type of video from you… great insight to see your workflow. Gracias!
Nice job - good video on the down and dirty on editing
Dylan, I always enjoy seeing other people's workflows. Yours is pretty interesting. Your videos always have a smooth feeling flow to them. Thank you for sharing your workflow. Peace
Loving it - thank you!!!!!
How can you separate clicks / keyboard sound from the voice track? Are the click sounds generated by the screen recording software and not recorded by the mic? And if so, which software do you use? Or maybe you simply record the voice over and the screen in separate moments...?
Great question! I use an app called keybell that creates click sounds and keyboard sounds when I type. I didn’t think about people being interested in the actual screen recording process, definitely should have included that 🤦♂️
I also use an app called presentation assistant that shows where my mouse clicks. Those two apps alone have saved me hundreds of hours adding clicks to my videos haha!
@@TheFinalCutBro great to know! I've been looking for somenthing like that for a while, for the same reason: save time! I'm not in the tutorials niche but for some of my documentary-style video this could be game changer for me. Thank you a lot Dylan, I'm going to try this app immediatly! Greetings from Italy!
Great video man! Do you record your screen with Quicktime or is there a better solution for that? :)
The eq is fine and the audio is pretty decent. Thanks for the video!
I feel validated now! 😂 Thanks for watching!
Your videos are super pro in every aspect. And always useful, of course. Thanks Dylan!
Wish I was that fast and efficient. Great video thanks I am sure it will help speed up my workflow.

Thank you very much for this work, but I have a question, what is the name of the application you used when I said a distance?
Love your content! Do you have a video of any auto silencers for FCPX? Trimming fat takes forever, and I'm in desperate need of any type of editing shortcuts 😅
Haha dance breaks while searching for music is vital to an editor’s mental health
Super video - I love how you created an effect to push a Color Wheels adjustment ABOVE the log LUT. Can you do a (probably very short) video or short on how you did that? I shoot everything in C-Log and this would save immeasurable time!! Thanks Dylan
God that was a super fast tutorial to keep up with, my head is spinning! LOL. Some super tips contained in here. Thank you Dylan. 😎👍
I edit more vlogs style, or travel style. It was very interesting to watch a education style video. As always, love learning new things from you mate. Cheers.
Fantastic! You seem like you could be one to nerd out on a midi controller and fcp? I have done is have a small midi controller next to my keyboard with a ton of buttons programmed with Keyboard Maestro. This lets me push 1 button as a shortcut to multiple mouse clicks, typing, and keyboard shortcuts. For example, I have a button each dedicated to bringing up the video, audio, and colour panes. A button to bring up the compressor window and then move it to a better spot. Other buttons to retime, 2x, 4x, and 8x. And my favourite, a button that is programmed to change the audio from stereo to mono dialogue 1 and another to mono dialogue 2 (I record with a rode video mic ntc that records the 2nd track 20db less than the main track). I have never found a keyboard shortcut for this and was doing these steps in every video.
These all save me moving the mouse all over the place when no keyboard shortcuts exist, or from the finger gymnastics.
You could potentially hit a button that creates your new library, lets you type in the name, then selects the clips and synchronises them, as an example. And have other buttons that go straight to the effects that you use a lot, saving you having to search and find them manually.
Anyhow, cheers! And hello from Melbourne, Australia (and well done for 30k+ subs!!)
I think I definitely would! I am just a cheap and feel like I am fast enough without 😂 But I just started playing around with using my ipad and the streamdeck app, and it's already starting to change everything for me! So I don't doubt getting a dedicated board would completely change my life.
Hi Scott, quick Q: Where can I find the Loudness sound effect Dylan is using? is it a 3rd party plugin? thanks in advance.
@@safetyhomeloans950 loudness is built into FCP! If you go to your audio inspector panel, go to “audio analysis” and if there’s no loudness option, make sure you click the “show” button next to audio analysis. That will show the loudness sliders!
@@TheFinalCutBro like to someday share one of my YT shorts with you and get your input on my editing progress. Gracias. Fyi. It’s on a different channel name. “Shameless Plug”. Lol.
@@TheFinalCutBro I have the behrenger x touch mini. I am pretty sure you can pick these up pretty cheap on ebay. Keyboard maestro is USD40. I highly recommend a deep dive into KM. You will begin to use it all over the place. I have keyboard short cuts and loads of mouse actions programmed into a single button that are used for different applications all over the place. I tried the ipad and a similar app but found the hassle of clearing space on my desk and finding my ipad (kids) far more of a road block. As well, tactile buttons are really great. I guess this (or my) approach is a super cheap version of a stream deck. However, if you are already using something like this with your ipad, awesome! 🤙Cheers buddy 🤙
I'd love to see how you made that jump cut custom effect! Would use the hell out of that haha
How do you create the glowing animated outline/strike in you PIP?
That’s really cool.
Dylan this was great! Noob question, is there any repercussions to having a 60fps project/timeline with 24fps footage?
Not a noob question at all!
Most of the time, for a lot of NLE’s yes there are major issues with everything falling out of sync. But I have personally found FCP does a ridiculously good job of not having those issues. I’m sure there are likely some ways to cause issues, but I personally haven’t found any.
@@TheFinalCutBro Got it! Would you recommend always setting the project and export to the higher frame rate? Like you I also record myself at 24 but my screen at 30.
@@ImIvanCalderon it’s purely up to preference! I would export at 30fps since you’re just recording your screen at 30. 60 wouldn’t provide any benefit, would make the file size larger, and would have a higher likelihood of causing issues, if there were any that were to happen.
@@TheFinalCutBro Dude thank you so much!
Bro you are a Final Cut Pro maniac! I would buy a full tutorial program from you on FCP for beginners!
Not sure why such an informative video has 300 Likes only?!!! thanks a lot Dylan for sharing such info, this is so helpful :)
This is so good, lazy is just a matter of perception 😅nothing lazy about your posts and sharing of skills ! Thanks Dylan 👍
What the name of plugin about shortcuts ?
Awesome video!
Do you have a tutorial for that transition in the beginning? 0:05
That is one of the transitions in the transition pack I used in this video! It comes from PremiumVFX, link in the description!
@@TheFinalCutBro Thank you, I had just started watching, and that transition got me.
Nice diary! Do you export to UA-cam directly from FCPx with default Share to UA-cam option?
I recently asked myself the exact same question, and basically UA-cam wants MP4 files instead of the MOV files Final Cut Pro creates by default. Supposedly, that's what is recommended anyway, you get the best quality (without using compressor) if you use these settings:
Format: Computer
Video Codec: H.264 Better Quality
Resolution: Whatever your timeline is
This creates an MP4 file instead of the normal MOV file, which UA-cam prefers.
I export for computer devices at “better quality”. it processes super fast on UA-cam and has a nice small file size!
@@TechWandererYT Computer is a good choice as it has the highest data rate (of Computer, Web Hosting and Apple Devices) but UA-cam doesn't care much about the container you use to upload. You can give it MOV, MP4, or something less common. MP4 is actually based on MOV; it's the codec inside the container that really counts.
It's amazing!
Great video Dylan! Quick question…how did you to the circle of your overlayed on your video during the sped up part. I was just trying to do that today and I couldn’t get it to work. Thanks!!!
I made a templates that does this! I actually have a plugin for it here - thefinalcutbro.gumroad.com/l/PictureInPicture?layout=profile
Or you can make it yourself following this tutorial!
ua-cam.com/video/C8x0zL0ys3E/v-deo.html
@@TheFinalCutBro Oh wow AWESOME!!! I’ve been meaning to you around with Motion but it’s so daunting!!! This one looks easy to do!!! Thank you!!!
Please, what are the best settings for recording the screen while recording desktop audio, and what is the name of the program with which you record the screen?
Another awesome vid! Noob question, but how do you manage to shoot your talking head footage in 24fps and work with it in a 60fps timeline without it looking all jittery?
Final Cut Pro does a really good job of mixing frame rates with no issue! It adds extra frames (not interpolated, just duplicates of the same frames) and it works great with the 60p timeline.
I also think another factor is just the exact shot I am filming. I think if my video had a lot more motion to it, you would likely notice it looking jittery, but the shot is locked off, and while I do move around a bit, it's relatively minimal.
What program are you using to record your screen? Sorry if this was in a previous post. Thanks
So... I missed how working with two different frame rates works. Does it change one to the other on import, or do you pick one on export?
Either way, which one did you pick for this project, which is exactly like my projects (screen recording plus talking head)?
Or, do you import at 60 and output to something else?
So Final Cut is really good at mixing frame rates. It adds additional frames to my 24p video so it works on a 60p timeline no problem. I always export at 60p for UA-cam so that the playback can be as smooth as possible when showing my screen, but the 24p looks just fine as well! I should probably make a more in-depth video on how FCP deals with variable frame rates, as you actually have some additional options (not that I use them) when it comes to working with different rates in the video inspector at the very bottom.
@@TheFinalCutBro yes please do this! I’m interested as well.
@@TheFinalCutBro Oh man yes! Please do that video 😃 thanks for your amazing videos!!
Fantastic video🎉 Just a comment on the editing, and shortcuts. I see you 'blade cut' both ends and then delete the left over end. My editing pace increased a lot after rather using trim to playhead. I assigned trim to left to G, and trim to right to H. So that I control the playback with JKL, and then trim the ends with GH. All without the need of a mouse.
Great tip! Appreciate you sharing!
Hi Dylan! Please make a tutorial on color correction and sound correction in final cut. Thank you very much, I enjoy watching you. Oh yes, even Dagestan watches you))
Final Cut really needs built in features like the app Recut for cutting the dead space and then something like Captionator for captions.
I have received a project timeline with clips from 7 different cams. I am making a showreel and I only want to use the clips from my cam, the a7s3. Sure, I have all of the a7s3 clips grouped in an event, but the editor has already made selections of my footage (in the project) and I don't want to re-do this. Ideally I would like to assign a role to all the a73s3 footage, select that role, cut them from the timeline and paste it in a new project. Is this possible, or can you think of another way how to acheive this? eg. Can I make all the other footage "offline" and somehow filter for offline video and then delete those?
How do you get all the audio clips into one clip?
Great video. Is there a discount for Patreon supporters?
There is indeed! patrons get 30% off of plugins I create. The code is in my video about what the next year holds for the channel in my patreon posts.
@@TheFinalCutBro Thank you!!!!

What camera do you use?
Sony A7siii
Dylan or anyone else, I CAN NOT find the Loudness Sound Effect in FCPX. is it a 3rd party plugin? Thanks as always. "SHAMELESS PLUG" clip was hilarious :)!!!!!!!!!
Hoping you saw it in the other comment! But just in case, you can get to it from the audio inspector panel. Then go down to audio analysis and make sure the settings are not hidden by going to the right side and clicking "Show" (it will only appear if you mouse over it). That should give you the loudness option directly in Final Cut Pro!
@@TheFinalCutBro I LOVE THIS community. Thank you 🙏🏼 found it.
How did you get away with using Simon & Garfunkel?
Is your slog3 correction available for download?
The slog3 correction LUT comes from some other super cool dude that I can't remember the name of. But here's the download link - bit.ly/3iF5ZXw
I found it originally on a Gerald Undone video, and haven't looked back! Then I just saved it as an effects preset!
@@TheFinalCutBro thank you very much!
audio engineer here. your voiceovers sound fine. maybe cut a bit at the 8k notch but that's nitpicky
Appreciate that! Will definitely try that out. Audio is my worst area of expertise haha
This is quite good when slowed down 😂
UA-cam made the 0.5 playback speed for channels like mine I guess 😂 -- I definitely want to do a more slowed down version, but this was just to get workflow concepts across as quickly as possible. Hope you picked up some useful tips here and there! Appreciate you watching!
👏
Love your tutorials but this one felt a little disorganized. It is not really clear to me what is exactly the structure of your FCP workflow. Cheers.
you should have more likes👍
So cool to see your workflow Dylan! Jam-packed with useful tips as always! 😄🙌🏼
Pleeeease - expand your videos to 100 percent again. A lot of us is watching on a mobile device. 😀
That's what the animated zooms on the screen are for! Unfortunately the aspect ratio on the MacBook looks really bad on a 16x9 timeline, so I have to do something to make it look decent.
@@TheFinalCutBro thanks Dylan 😀👍
@@TheFinalCutBro One way around that is to hook up an external 16:9 screen, then record that screen or set your internal MacBook Pro screen to mirror it. You'll get best results from recording UHD that "looks like" 1080p, or even 720p.
Wish you would slow it down
I'm lost!
This is inceptions level type of thing…
Don’t ever call it Final Cut Pro again. Always always Final Cut bro
You’re so fast I can’t follow.
