RCA was unique in selling both Hi8 and VHS-C camcorders, even though they were competing products, and other brands normally only sold one or the other. I know their VHS-C and MiniDV camcorders were made by JVC. Some of their Hi8 camcorders were rebranded Sony Handycams while others might have been made by Hitachi. RCA hasn't actually made any of their own products since the GE/Thomson takeover.
The 1995 Hitachi 2800A I have is identical to this one, I have all the paperwork , carry on bag and everything! I got it from a guy on Kijji for and old film project I was working on it even came with a tripod clip that someone left on
I have a Panasonic S-VHS camcorder from 1988, a PV-S440. It's in pretty good shape, maybe I'll make a video of it at some point. That's one thing I rather like about Panasonic's old camcorders, the handles were made of solid plastic instead of rubber, so no degradation to happen there. I had a laugh myself at the "JUNK...THROW AWAY...NO GOOD" label on the battery.
Nice camera! On the subject of your battery, those 18650 Li-Ion cells run at 4.2v at a full charge. 3 wired in series might be a bit high for that camera. Though I don't know what the top end voltage is for a 10v SLA battery. So maybe you're fine running it like that but do know that when that custom pack is fully charged, you are pushing just north of 12 volts into that camera! Anyways I recently got a full size VHS camera myself and have my own plans to do a custom battery. It's a Sharp SlimCam model VL-L64U made in '94 and takes a 6 volt SLA battery. I was able to pull apart the battery casing without a dremel. Took a lot of work but managed to break the plastic clips on the inside to remove it cleanly. (the plastic clips are welded in so it's not meant to be pulled apart properly like most batteries for these old cameras). It even goes back on and stays together on it's own. Only marred up the edges where they meet a little bit. But left the housing in good condition. :D Anyways my plan is to put in 2 18650s wired in parallel and have that go into a DC-DC step up converter. It will convert the 4.2v input to a 6 volt output which is what this model camera uses. The camera only pulls 9 watts at 6 volts (about 1.5 amps after some math) so a DC-DC step converter can easily handle this. I'll probably wire in a switch to keep the converter from draining the batteries when it's not in use. Since they will be wired in parallel, I will get double the capacity + I don't have to worry about balancing them. With your setup it's risky to run them like that because they are wired in series. You normally need a balancing circuit to make sure the voltages of the 3 cells don't drift too far apart since the cells will not have the exact same capacities and will degrade at different rates. I don't plan on building this battery until start of September but once I have the battery built I'll let you know how it goes. :D
I have a colorview RCA 20X zoom plus 5.4-64.8mm 1:1.6 camera and there is no UA-cam videos about it I do not know how to take pictures or record HELP!!
OOOOH I have a DSP3 model and it was made in 1997, I may make a video on it. 32x optical zoom color view finder has no charger came with blank VHS broken handle (R.I.P.) and it was used obviously
5:14 I actually I have that exact same model you showed off there. As matter of fact, I have a couple other models that have an LCD monitor. Indeed, they are very cool and it makes it a lot easier to film with. If you're still looking to get one, maybe we could work something out.
I have a model cc445 Im guessing that the cc413 takes the same battery giving that we have the same power supply. Do you know where I can get a new battery I'm very excited to put my model to use.
You can't get new batteries anymore. You can find new-old stock ones on eBay, but they'll possibly be dead-on-arrival. I built a custom Li-Ion battery for mine.
@@themaritimegirl do you have any more parts and equip to build another that I'd be willing to purchase. I've been stoked to put my camera to use. If not that's cool.
You can easily use any movie on VHS that nobody cares about. Just stuff some paper in that square notch, so it can be used for recording on. You can pick up any VHS movie for 50 cents or a dollar at Goodwill. Usually you will find a random tape at someones house, just ask them if you can have it. Lol Last tape I used was a copy of The Lion King, worked fine in my old VHS camera. There was literally 12 tapes of that same movie at my thrift store. :P
No way of knowing that reading a text comment. I get enough nonsensical comments like that from people who are actually serious that it's impossible to tell otherwise.
I'd like to say 3 things 1. I don't understand people who still use vcr camcorders in [current year], like not in a demeaning way, it just don't really make sense to me unless you're doing it for aesthetic, but why wouldn't you upscale it if you were doing that? 2. What display is that in your profile picture? is it part of an instrument or is it just a bunch of LED displays you put together? 3. Congratulations on your transition! you look great! 4. You should put your patreon in your "about" page. subbed
I still use a videotape-based camcorder to make my videos, just because it's the best thing I have. There's no point to upscaling because you can't get more quality out of a video by adding pixels that don't exist. With one exception - my videos are upscaled to 960x720 to activate UA-cam's 60 FPS playback. That's the display of a Motorola 2900 bag phone. It's a color LCD display with an incandescent backlight. It's been my profile picture for 12 years. It use to say "the maritime man", but I took out the "man" 3 years ago, and just haven't taken a new photo of the display saying "girl" yet. Thanks!
@@themaritimegirl aw thats cool, thats a nice display. I suggested upscaling for the extra bitrate, 480p video can get very blocky on youtube, unless your source is already compressed.
November 7, 2016 - My grandfather who gave me this camcorder passed away today, at the age of 86.
themaritimegirl awww sorry to hear that
5 years late, but sorry to hear that

25 years earlier, I wanted a video camera like this! I was yet to turn 17!

My Family had this camcorder...we had lots of fun using this but it died one day back in 2006 :(

I have a similar model from 1997, I’m in the process of building a lithium battery for it.
How to get the camera view not showing

whu dont u use that to record? wouldn't be much different from the one ur using now
It's actually completely different from the camcorder I use now.
How do you know how it compares when you haven't even seen test footage yet?
***** I said that ironically. Not intending for it to be taken seriously.

could anyone give me a link to which tape I should buy specifically for this camcorder. I have the camera but I have no tape to use so I can record.
Literally use whatever ordinary VHS tape you want. That's what these were made for.
themaritimegirl any recommendations like cheap ones online?
