Pretty sweet finds. JVC tape decks are pretty much indestructible, I have a Zenith branded JVC VHS deck set up for recording TV, and it is all original. I never had to do anything to it, it was working as found.
I have a Zenith VM6300 which is a similar model. Problem is I can't figure out how to use it. When I push the record button it stops after just a couple of seconds. I do not have a manual. Any thoughts about where I might get one?
I still own my camera that I bought new, I used to used the manual zoom to record 8mm films, if you left the focus on auto, the camera would try to focus on any distance change from the 8mm home movies throwing the finished product out of focus..
I recently received a JVC-GR C7U similar to yours, that works and functions, but has a slight issue I believe. I don't think my lens autofocus, and the powerzoom doesn't seem to move or work. Is there a way to fix it?
Sounds like either a belt or gear has broken, or the motor isn't working, or a connector has come loose. You would have to disassemble the lens assembly and take a look.
Wow, that's a lucky find indeed. I love the old 80s camcorders. I had an old Sony video 8 camcorder (over the shoulder style) back in like 2007, and I actually used it in public a few times (I was 16, I had no brains, lol) I wouldn't have the balls to do that nowadays though :P
Hey ! I have the same camcorder, albeit under the Philips brand. Whenever I turn it on, it would simply blink without being able to eject or turn on the viewfinder. With you being an owner of two, you could perhaps offer some assistance? I hope you respond, and thank you in advance !
I assume there's no tape in it? Blinking with no other sign of life normally means a dead battery. If you're using the power supply to power it, it might mean it's not putting out enough voltage.
Thanks for the response. Yes, there is no tape in it. All the lights (play, stop, pause, etc) blink, which makes me think that it is perhaps stuck in VCR mode. Is that a thing? Or could it be motor failure? I made a long power supply cable for it, so that might be the issue.
Oh, all the lights? If I remember right, that normally means a jammed tape. So in your case it might be indicating a tape mechanism failure, like you say.
First, it's videotape, not film. :P I connect the camcorder's A/V output to the A/V input of a Digital8 camcorder, which is connected to my computer via FireWire. The Digital8 camcorder is able to digitize the analog video in real-time. It's not converted to MP4; it's converted to a DV video stream, which can be used in a video editor or converted to another format using a conversion program.
great video, thank you very much, for starters this is a good introduction! Are there any other possibilities to digitalize the output signal of this camera? I imagine some kind of converter, so that the signal goes directly into some kind of a midi set up connected with a pc. Is that possible? peace
If I have such a usb video converter, will it still be necessary to use videotape? Or could I just hit the recrod button and the signal would be sent right into the compter?
I have a question i recently bought the Japanese version its the same but when i turn it on all the lights flash except the rewind button hope you see this comment
I'm not sure, but I _think_ that normally happens when the battery is dead. I assume you're running it off the charger, so what I would do is check the voltage at the charger's DC output, and make sure it's somewhere between 6-8V.
Well, if it's an SLA battery, the only way you're going to potentially revive it is to cut the pack open with a dremel tool, extract the battery itself inside the pack, pry the top off that, refill the cells with water, and try applying enough voltage to it (up to 32V or so) that it begins drawing current and eventually taking a charge. SLA batteries are generally toast once they sit dead for a long period of time, though, so you may be out of luck. If you just ordered it and it arrived dead, then just get your money back.
@@themaritimegirl Did you cut that battery up and replace it with InfoLithium? If so, I have a GR-C7U and I'm having a similar issue with my battery and charger, they're dead. I was curious if you could teach how to replace Nickel Cadmium with InfoLithium please. Your videos always motivate me to fix my electronics. :) Let me know because I miss using my GR-C7U and the camera's alive, but not the battery and the charger (is dying too I think). :)
I own 2 canon camcorders one is vixia HF R80 and vixia HF R800 how long many years can i use them before they give up? Oh by the way i don't use them daily.
VHS and VHS-C camcorders are just so awesome. I got a couple of them yesterday for just $30 USD total. Both are tested and working.
Just bought one today, cant wait till it comes in! such a beautiful camera
Can't wait to see test footage!
EXCELLENT CAMCORDER....AS YOUR VIDEOS !!! ALL THE BEST.

lol, I actually talk about the same thing later in Part 2... I would like to bring these out in public but don't have the guts to do it. :P
Just tell people you just arrived from the 80s in a time traveling plutonium powered Delorean :P
Heck, I'd take these things out in public in a second. If somebody confronted me, I'd be all like "Oh yeah, watcha gonna do?"
But you're like 7 feet tall and 300 lb so what is anybody gonna do? :P

do you know where i can get one of those viewfinders i bought a camera today but the viewfinder doesn’t seem to work
that camcorder is awesome

hey What camera did you film this video with?
A Sony Handycam DCR-TRV350 Digital8 camcorder from 2004. I think I show it in Part 2.

Thanks for the input. By the way, do you have the manuals? If they are online, could you refer me to a link?
Nah, I've never been able to find one.
for some reason, power zoom won't work on mine, focus won't move either
I know this is a old Video but I like that you use digital 8
Just got one of these at a thrift store!
is it possible to charge the JVC GR-C7 without removing the battery from the camcorder? because i lost my charging dock :(
I don't know of any charging dock - the batteries have a plug on them that the charger plugs into.
But no, the battery has to be removed for charging.
@@themaritimegirl i meant the powersupply, the thing where you insert the battery for charging.

You can buy a USB analog video converter, which will do the job.

Nope, you can just hit the Monitor/Record Standby button and digitize the direct video feed from the camcorder, without recording to tape.
I just got the same one a my garbge dump and it works

hey how can i get my camcorder to run that sla pack..i order thosr and there poop arive dead..please help
Rechargeable batteries often arrive dead. You have to charge them first.
no i mean they were so old the sla packs were toast sat on shelf to long
