The benefit of not supporting LP or EP/SLP is that it uses a larger playback head, which allows it to have a clear picture during pause and cue/review, unlike multi-speed 2-head VCRs where the picture is mostly covered up with noise during these operations.
I have a slightly older model which is the CC412. Mine is from December 1993. Unfortunately I really have no good way to power it since the batteries are shot and the CRT viewfinder is dead. I did rig up a universal AC adapter to it with slightly under voltage and was able to blindly record to tape with it, and it works. What's really stupid about this camera is it requires proprietary connecting cables to use the A/V in and out. I can't find them ANYWHERE.
So I'm trying to record over old VHS tapes and I play it back on but it goes from static to what I recorded then I put it in a vcr and it does play only(stays on blue screen) when I fast forward it does the static and then a little piece of what I recorded comes up
I just bought this camera yesterday at a goodwill and its in mint condition, however the physical rechargeable battery is completely dead. Like it won't even charge. Do u know where or which website I can find a new one ??? Thabks
You can buy a new battery here: www.ebay.com/itm/350827620505 You could also cut the old one open, and convert it to use Li-Ion cells, like I did in this video: ua-cam.com/video/q-IrsokVMgk/v-deo.html
Isn't the 2-head design only because it has 1 tape speed? If EP was available there would probably be 2 extra 19 micron heads to accomodate the narrower scan width of EP.
I just bought a new battery for one of these camcorders but I realized that It doesn't come with a charger. Do you know what type of charger it uses? And where i might be able to get it? Thank you!
The charger is an RCA CPS019. I don't see any of those on eBay, but I found a different one that appears to be for that battery type: m.ebay.com/itm/391682195596 Alternatively, as the battery is a 10V lead acid (at least, mine is), if you have a power supply that outputs 11.0-11.5 volts, you can clip that directly to the battery to charge it.
Thanks splendid video! Thanks for showing me how the old VHS camcorders work. I just got a new VHS-C camcorder because I like VHS. I see you like old electronics, you showed a windows XP and vista computer. What settings did you use SP or LP?
Im a little late but i actually have this exact same camcorder, my dad bought it in the 90's, i was wondering how you turned the vhs tapes into digital files that you were able to use to make this video? thank you !
I played the VHS recording into my Digital8 camcorder via the composite video output on the camcorder, like you saw me do at the end of the video. Then I just transferred the video from the Digital8 camcorder to the computer.
I was moving mom into her new house and found blank vhs tapes still in the plastic wrap. Do you have a po box? She never owned one of these she must have bought them to record a show from tele.
Aw, no thanks. I got enough tapes to do me forever lol. Plus I assume from the use of the word "tele" that you're located in the UK, which would cost you a lot to mail here. I appreciate the offer though!
Dude, the best place to find old things in general is ebay, period. You can find just about anything on there -- VHS camcorders from specific years, Playstation 1 consoles, vintage Hilfiger, JNCOs, CRT TVs & monitors, Windows 95 or XP computers without any updates, Aol .0 CDs, old cellphones, old boombox radios, VHS players, blank VHS & cassette tapes, old phone books, souvenirs from the Twin Towers, you name it. It's a nostalgic person's paradise.
Even though no Camera has LP (VHS Cameras that is) it wouldn't be a good idea to record in LP as the quality of VHS recordings was already questionable.
I got from my mother's boyfriend who giving that's camcorder without power brick or power supply to test it.. I use Old dvd players power brick to get it turn on.. 9V
Actually LP was horrible on VHS mashines. Because mainly to the fact that Longplay recordings were almost unplayable on another mashine except the mashine that recorded it. And even if it played, the quality was beyond bad. My first camcorder was a JVC VHS-C type of camera and that one didn't have LP recording function either. So you were really only down to 60 minutes maximum. After a few years I couldn't even get these 60 Min. tapes anymore but only 45 Minutes tapes. And they still cost a lot. >_< So you had to be aware of what you shoot. But that kinda helped to get much better discipline at shooting cost efficient and cut your movies while shooting.
I've never had an issue playing LP/EP recordings on VCRs other than the one that made the recording. On a 2-head machine there is a noticeable loss in video quality, and a dramatic loss in audio quality, but on a 4-head machine the video quality loss is very minor, and the audio quality has no perceived change in quality at all. In the video of the 4-head Panasonic VCR I have, you can see how well it handles LP and EP modes.
November 7, 2016 - My grandfather who gave me this camcorder passed away today, at the age of 85.
:( I'm sorry
_I lost both of my grandmothers last year._
themaritimeman sorry to hear about that
r i p
Sad to hear that
Holy crap that haircut is legendary - 1970s are alive! And that's a compliment!
lol, it's a lot better now that I've transitioned - halfway down my back :)
The rewinding sound of this camcorder is so good. One of the few sounds I haven't forgotten to this day.
The benefit of not supporting LP or EP/SLP is that it uses a larger playback head, which allows it to have a clear picture during pause and cue/review, unlike multi-speed 2-head VCRs where the picture is mostly covered up with noise during these operations.
I've learned something new! I noticed the picture was unusually clean during cue/review.
Great video. Just ordered a Hitachi VM-4400A VHS Camera and I can’t wait for it to come in.
I too have found my grandfathers camcorder and I’m trying to figure it out as well. When charging does the charger turn green when completely charged?
Is there any battery for it online? My battery is shot and I can’t find one online
The second title you did reminds me of the forum signature a friend of mine used to have, which was: "Make your PC faster, delete system32!" lol
Thx for this video bro. I have this camcorder and plan to make visual art with it. Good reference vid.
Me too. I just have to get a battery and a vhs
How do I slow down the playback speed so it's not speeding through like it's in x2 speed???
If it's doing that, then there's something wrong with the VCR mechanism. It can't see a control track to lock onto.
@@themaritimegirl would it still be able to record properly? Or would that be messed up too?

Are you still looking for a camcorder with an LCD monitor? I have a couple of them myself.
that ep playbackll give me nightmares for weeks
Hahahaha

You're right, I didn't think of that. 4-heads makes a big difference at the slower record speeds, but it's indeed but a big deal on an SP-only device.
can you do a review on the RCA DSP3 camcorder? if you have one
My 2 vhs camera has no speed selector either, so I'm guessing all vhs camcorders have no speed selectors.
I have one of these with a LOT more features, this one is the same shape but it looks like it has absolutely no buttons.

themaritimegirl thank you so much friend!
Hi, I like to know with what kind of camera this video has been filmed. Thank you in advance. Margo
A Sony Digital8 HandyCam.
Was this filmed in 1994 or was this filmed in the 2000s?
whats that radio thing
Thanks splendid video! Thanks for showing me how the old VHS camcorders work. I just got a new VHS-C camcorder because I like VHS. I see you like old electronics, you showed a windows XP and vista computer. What settings did you use SP or LP?
As I said in the video, this camcorder can only record in SP, so that is what I used.
I thought this camera had a color viewfinder?
Other models do; not this one.

are you selling it?
What size is the lens on this Camcorder?

+themaritimeman im in the US lol
In my country, you can still buy brand new VHS tapes from a few shops :P
You can here too - packs of six Memorex T-120 tapes.
Can one still find these at pawn shops?
Perhaps occasionally.

how did you you get the footage of the vhs
I played the footage into my Digital8 camcorder, and then transferred the resulting Digital8 recording to the computer.
