Thank you darling. You have made the process much speedier than when I grew up in Srilanka. My mum would have several people scraping about 30 coconuts and then going through an arduous process of slowly cooking the coconuts on the three stone fire. The ladies would return the next day to squeeze all the juice of the coconut and slowly simmer the extracted juice for several hrs till oil appears.
My mum would then make a lovley porridge with all the reminding extracts; she would use red rice, coconut juggery , cardomoms , Cinamon, turmeric etc .. As small children, we had to patiently wait for the sweet porridge..
Bless you for this video and I will use your technique for home made pure coconut oil.
Love and blessings from me to you all.

The spirit of working together and the childish excitement are unrivalled. A sense of community, partnership and sharing responsibility and reward alike is one of the reasons I appreciate the so called ''developing countries''. Capitalism is quite individualistic but creeping up in every nation slowly and steadily

Leave the coconut milk overnight, and it’ll separate to 2 layers. Fridge it for a couple of hours, oil will solidify and water stays liquid. Pour away the water and leave the solidified oil at room temperature to melt. 2 layers of will appear once it’s melted. The top layer is coconut oil. The bottom layer can be discarded to the garden to beautify the plants.

Yvonne C I do leave it over night too, all though I need to try to fridge trick to better my yield. When removing the water we always loose precious oil in the process, by placing it in the fridge prior it might just help loosing less.

Dont throw away the crumble created after making the oil, in malaysia, we call it 'tahi minyak', its very, very delicious when u cook shrimp sambal and mix them with... by the way, virgin coconut oil is cold press oil, not by heated up... this is traditional style making coconut oil.. coconut oil is very good for high temperature cooking .. it will be toxic after 3times heating, but we here recycle those used cooking oil into biodiesel... and actually coconut oil will make ur hair stronger and heavier, also beautifully shine.. look at the old indian and old malays who always rub coconut oil on their hair , they still have black shiny hair even reach 80 years old...

Quick tip. Pour milk in dish and leave in fridge overnight. Fat separates from the water into solid pieces. Easy to separate and chuck in pan and cook away till you get the oil.

Nice method. However my mom used to take the milk from the cocount and put in a covered pot on the roof outside overnight.
By morning the milk and water would have separated and we just skim the milk off from the top.
Then place it in pot to heat until the oil form. That used to have the whole house smelling ooh so sweet.
Gowing up coconut oil was used for everything. Especially for our hair, skin and certain dishes.
To this day whenever i want coconut oil i make it.
    Nothing beats home made.

I tried the steps and made coconut oil at home yesterday.
    Some important points:
    1. It takes eternity to take the form of oil.
    2. If possible,use electric oven.
    3. I used two big sized coconut and the quantity of oil I got was less than 100ml.

My grandma is an expert when it comes to extracting pure coconut oil. She grates the coconut meat with our traditional "kudkuran", then she place them in our "kawa " and let it simmer continuously in our" kailan",after a long time, the oil starts to appear and what I want the most is the "Latik " . The pure coco oil was used to make our hair healthy, strong and vibrant w/o breaking any strand. My grand mom never use water to extract the oil. shalom

Oil from any source has to be extracted through cold press method. Heating up the source or the oil will saturate the oil, which itself is harmful. I suggest not to use saturated oil in any form, one biggest problem is with refined oil where it is oxidised for clear nature of oil, before the consumption itself, very very harmful

The coconut in the cloth can be spread out to dry until crispy. Blend it into powder, add to tea, smoothie, juice etc

you can also add some sugar & water to it and keep turning it in a saucepan until it becomes brown or slightly burnt. It is eaten this way as a snack in some west african countries. You cn also make it into small balls before it dries out to create variety.
