When Roy was starting out, he asked Johnny Cash for advice.
And Johnny said "First of all you gotta change your name, because nobody's gonna remember the name Roy Orbison."
Ofc Roy then became one of the biggest names in music.
When Johnny would tell that story, he'd always end with "so that's why I don't give advice anymore."
Another great Roy Orbison tune "Only the Lonely".
My fav
He wrote all his own songs. Roy lost his wife in a road accident. Years later, while on tour in Britain, his two children died in a house fire back in the States. He knew first hand about loss...
Did not know that. Thanks for sharing. How terribly sad.
Nice comment
OMG! WOW!
@Herbert Norkus That's beautiful! Johnny Cash was a BEAUTIFUL soul. Thank you for sharing that story.
He did not write all is own songs. For example one of his bigger hits was Pretty Paper and it was written by Willie Nelson. He even put out albums of covers. He was an amazing song writer himself and did write most of his famous songs though
A rare singer with at least a 5 octave range. Incredible voice.
One of the most unique and spellbinding voices to ever grace the music industry. This guy had history, good and bad. RIP sir. Thank you
This was my father's favorite singer and the day he passed my father had a massive heart attack I still remember that day I was a young little guy lol he had a beautiful voice
😢❤️
It was just announced last night that Helen Reddy passed away.
Her biggest hit, among many in the 1970's, is called I Am Woman.
RIP Helen Reddy.
Angie baby was always my favorite 🤔🥰
Roy Orbison and his unusual, powerful voice was a model for singers for decades. He was the best. The more of him you hear, the more you know it.
When you watched that vid of the traveling Wilbury’s, that empty rocking chair was for him. He was part of the group & passed before they recorded the video.
Have to pay closer attention next watch. Thanks for the tip. ✌ out 😊
Patrick Ingalls
It was “End of the Line”
Won't be any worries for any of us at the end of the line. Definitely counting the blessings so far!
That part killed me 😞
He died before they made the video but not before they recorded the song.
Elvis held Roy Orbison in very high regard, publicly stating that Roy had the ' most perfect voice' and referring to him as the 'greatest singer in the world' during one of his Vegas concerts. And Roy's respect was mutual, he went to Elvis' concerts from 1954 to 1976.
Yes, Roy and Elvis were good friends. They even starred in a movie together, altho I don't recall the name of it.
Roy was one of a kind, he had the voice of no other, may he R.I.P.
You should do Only the Lonely by him . His voice was magic.
Yeah how about that high note?
Roy was one of a kind, perfectly toned voice. Elvis adored him. I love his Only The Lonely.
Travelling Wilburys is next. Go down that talented wormhole.
I knew all of them and never knew they had a super group until literally 2 years ago
Derek...he's already done a couple Wilbury's songs. They were Brilliant.
he did them once before but he only knew who Tom was...
Let's do Pretty Woman and Candy Man too.
And if you do End of the Line, you will see a place reserved for the late Roy Orbison.
If you like this you will love his classic song pretty woman
Quick edit: I'm subscribed to other reactors, but you are my favorite by far!!
Roy Orbison was a special kind of musician his voice would cut right through you.
Roy Orbison had one of the greatest voices ever to grace a stage but he was a humble man and never flashy or boasted about him self, and I have heard that his only request for his dressing room was a bottle of coca-cola and when he played with the Travelling Wilburys he was surprised when they got him a 2 liter bottle.
❤️
I can remember my MOM. Rip. Playing this while she was house cleaning. When I was a young boy. 😭😢😭😢
♥️
❤️
Pretty Woman was one of his most popular songs. He actually purred like a cat! It was a unique, signature touch that fans always enjoyed! Give a listen.
My Dad sang this song to my Mom when they were dating
Mr. Video you are absolutely my favorite reactor!!!
Roy Orbison also performed this as a duet with KD Lang. That performance sounds amazing!
I love that performance.
one of my mums favourite artists he's amazing 🏴🏴
Big favorite version for me. Best recorded version of this song. Glad to see someone else appreciate the voice of an angel.
I grew up listening to his wonderful voice. One of my parents favorites. A very talented vocalist, and still sounds great today.
Pretty Woman, Only the Lonely, In Dreams... just pick any of his songs .... you can’t go wrong.
Paul McCartney told a story about being on a Caravan Tour (63?) with Roy. On the bus, Roy played for The Beatles his latest work in progress, Pretty Woman.
Boy, what that one came on the radio it really grabbed you. There was nothing that ever sounded like it!
It's Over is another great one
Lisa C
that is a good one.
Yes. These Mr. V, especially pretty woman. You’ve probably heard it cause everybody’s granny loooooved that song, haha!
knew3355 ? I don’t think my gran liked it. I remember when the song came out and it was exciting. It was like nothing else.
When you watched 'the traveling wilburys' video "end of the line," the photograph was Roy Orbison... because that was him singing when they go through the tunnel period he died before the video was made. And that was his guitar on the rocking chair
Mac Davis passed away yesterday. A Lubbock Texas boy who wrote "In the Ghetto". He wrote a few songs for Elvis. Could you react to a few of his songs please. Hard to be Humble, Don't get Hooked on Me, and Lubbock Texas in my Rear View Mirror.
Oh my hadn't heard. Such a loss. Thanks for posting 💗
Helen Reddy also died yesterday....both passed at age 78😢😢
Oh man the goodies 💗. RIP to both of them 😓
Mac Davis will be missed. He was one of the best all round and talented artists of all time. RIP.
Aw, man! That sucks to hear. I just relistened to "Hard to Be Humble" a couple of weeks ago. Had great childhood memories with dad with that song. And it wasn't until I relistened to it that I discovered that he wrote "In the Ghetto" for Elvis.
Sweetie he was a sad person . His first wife was killed in a motorcycle accident . A few years later 2 of his 3 children died in a fire .
He said in interviews that although it may have seemed like that, it wasn't. He managed to stay sane and upbeat. It would've killed a mere mortal.
Roy’s songs have kept me crying since the early 60’s when he did a little gig at my junior high school. His voice & songs are so emotional, they mostly bring me to tears. Even “ I Drove All Night” & “Pretty Woman”. Something so romantic about Roy.
@@pattyyoung2103 lol, seems not Sweetie
Nice comment
@@gregwilliams9737 Right!? Debbie Downer in the comments lol
When you sing this good, you don't have to jump and dance all around to entertain your audience.
The ones who are jumping and dancing are lipsyncing
true
Good Morning, will you please react to Roberta Flack 1972 - The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face ****** Always Awesome****** Thank you!
Awesome suggestion 👍!
Oh LAWD YES!!! 💜💚💛✌️🔥
Great suggestion
I remember when Casey Kasem had his top 100 songs for the year, on New Year's Eve, one year was "First Time", one year,, Layla,,, one year Hey Jude., forget New Year's Eve, Tunes were my life
Another amazing thing about Roy Orbison, he had a 5 octave range and could project his voice very powerfully - and yet he barely opened his mouth.
The audience looks like they are at a lecture on nuclear fusion
My opinion/advise on Roy Orbison:
He was the man. I was sad when he passed away. “You Got It” was his last hit song. I still associate it with his passing, which is why it’s one of my favorites.
“Oh, Pretty Woman” is probably his most famous song (it is a good pop rock song). They named a movie after his song, after all. It’s a good karaoke song.
My next favorites are “Crying” (which you just did) and “Only the Lonely.” “Only the Lonely” is a very sweet and mellow song.
Oh, and I love his “Blue Bayou” version.
He co-wrote Blue Bayou.
I was looking for someone to finally mention You Got It. It's my absolute favourite!
It overcomes me to watch the video of him in Antwerp, Belgium. Knowing that he died just 17 days later.
Feels like yesterday such an individual voice. Moving.
I'm watching you everyday now, cause I need you in my life. You crack me up, or touch my heart each time I watch you, and lord knows I need that in my life right now.
There was a man who knew true suffering. Growing up so poor that it was lucky when they ate, followed by the devastating loss of his wife, then children. And a life filled with a lot of serious health issues. You can hear the pain in his soul.
Please EVERYBODY, Love one another, be Kind to each other, and Listen to each other.
Thanks Mr. Video for the bit of joy you bring everyday to just over 90,000 people. Bravo. ✌️💗😊
One of my favorite singers of all all time. A blind man and a beautiful singer.
Not blind, but certainly the best.
Roy- “it’s over”. Or “ I drove all night”
In dreams Or working for the man
Oohhh, "I Drove All Night". Really good one.
Roy Orbison was the original voice. My mother met him after one of his concerts, she was impressed how friendly and cordial he was to her and her friends.
My late mother's favorite voice, his album Mystery Girl was a beautiful comeback, title track and mega hit single You Got It were so perfect. Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne all over it
Roy Orbison was an Rock singer in the 1950s at Sun Records, that evolved into a great Country music crooner, with a wide vocal range. "The Monument Concert" was a reference to his record label, "Monument Records, for which Orbison recorded in the 1960s and 1970s. One Roy Orbison song that I would like to see you react to is his 1956 Sun Records recording with The Teen Kings, entitled "Ooby Dooby". It is a great Rockabilly record, with lead guitarwork by Orbison that has a "take no prisoners" style.
Pretty Woman always and forever.
FINALLY!! I've BEEN waiting for someone to react to Roy! He's one my dad's (few) favourites, and I think I knew every single song of his by the time I was about 7. He has song really fantastic songs "Oh Pretty Woman", "Only the Lonely", "You Got It", "Blue Angel", "I Drove All Night".... Listen to all of it!! ❤️
I love how you appreciate the music I grew up with. Glad I found you. Try “Oh Pretty Woman” for something more upbeat. Have a great day, Young Gunz. 👍🏻
Another one of his songs is "Sleepy Hollow". So emotional. Makes me think of my grandparents ❤ Thank you for your videos! I've been binge watching them. You're hilarious too 😆 makes my days better
THANK YOU!!!
This song came out when I was 2 years old. I love all these oldies cause my mom taught me to love all music. Love your reaction again.
Roy Orbison was a solo artist but also played in the "Traveling Wilbury's. You covered them in one of your reaction vids. The one with Tom Petty. AND, THIS IS YOUR DAILY REMINDER to PLEASE give a reaction to "School Boy Crush" by Average White Band. I'll try again tomorrow. lol #GoToledo
Please react to K D Lang singing Crying she did a duet with him and then after his passing she sang it! Amazing
This was in 1965. Flashforward to 1987 and listen to Roy's duet with KD Lang for Crying. You'll find an older Roy who's perfected his voice and Lang who's a powerhouse. Try to listen to the audio recording or find the the music video from the movie Hiding Out starring John Cryer. It'll blow you away.
Yes, that is such a beautiful duet! ❤️ Love my Canadian girl KD 🇨🇦
@@julesb1970 Her version of "Hallelujah" is beautiful
@@GreatGarloo Oh yes, that's beautiful as well!
Awww my mom died at 70 and she loved Roy Orbison.
I gotta say man, I like the recorded version better. I mean, Roy knows how to hit it, but on the record he fucking WAILS!!!
Such a distinctive voice, and a masterpiece of a song. 🎼🎶🎸😎RIP Roy, heaven has one hell of a band.
When I was in my first year of high school, in Kermit Texas, Roy Orbison was living with his parents in Wink Texas, which was only 9 miles away (both were small oil field towns). At that time his career was just taking off, and he sang with a little group called The Wink Westerners on a local tv station; all the kids were crazy about his music. I remember one day at lunchtime he came over to our high school in a beautiful white cadillac convertible he had recently purchased. He drove around while we were outside, waving & smiling, we were all thrilled & excited to see our very own local celebrity. He had a reputation for being one of the nicest guys, and maintained that rep for his entire life. I never saw anyone say a bad word about him. His voice in this clip doesn't sound as good as he usually did. He has had a number of great hits.
Roy’s voice and range was one of a kind.
Roy was the man. I think he may have made Sunglasses popular. He never got the respect he deserved til later in his career.. in the late 80s... he had a big revival.. and also had hits with the Traveling Thornberrys supergroup... then he died.
Wild Thornberrys was on Nickelodeon, Travelling Willburys were the band with George Harrison, Jeff Lynn, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and Roy Orbison. And Pilsbury's got dogh knees ==> ua-cam.com/video/whuWmuj-LUI/v-deo.html
@@leesvideopage lol Thornberrys..
Dude! Roy IS an angel and thee original man in black.
Running Scared, In Dreams, It's Over...'The Big O' was amazing.
Holy crap I have been waiting for you to react to Roy Orbison! The man is incredible and every song of his is incredible. Great talent and reaction!!!
Love is extremely powerful. I wish more people would use it.
Thank you for doing Roy! He had a great voice and he knew how to use it. Never be anyone like him again. He is so missed!
Great reaction! Love watching!
Roy is the man!
Elvis Presley once said in a concert at las vegas that Roy Orbison had the ' most perfect voice' and repeatdly referred to him as the 'greatest singer in the world'. Nuff said.
Roy orbison had the smoothest voice ever.
Me. V. This man is a legend, such a beautiful voice. He is so missed by millions.💞💞💞
Try reacting to "Blue Bayou" it's a killer by Roy.
Linda Ronstadt had a hit but Roy's is great! Yes, killer!
@@johnmcbarron7282 that's like Cyndi Laupers I drove all night, it's good but Roy was leagues ahead
I’m so happy that you finally reacted to Roy
I was lucky enough to see Roy twice in Seattle! Talk about goosebumps! Omg his voice was still so powerful! 💓✌
His voice got stronger as he got older.
One of the Traveling Wilburys
Watch the video of Black & White Night concert. You will be surprised who you see playing instruments & singing backup in the concert
yes,great suggestion
I totally agree ♥️It’s a must watch 🎸
His duet of Crying with k.d. Lang is sublime.

KD has such an amazing voice.
I know I'm in the minority on this, but if you like Roy, I would NOT recommend Black and White Night. Roy was probably the greatest singer of our generation, and he doesn't need the distraction of all those rock "superstars." He's best heard stripped down, with his own band. I was delighted that you reacted to this version - great reaction. The Monument Concert referred to his record label at the time. Running Scared, a song perhaps more dramatic than Crying, is represented in a great clip from the TVShow,, Austin City Limits, where he does the ending multiple times. It's the way he always did it live.
He was a beautiful man with a gorgeous voice, and a tragic life.
Roy was amazing , such a talent . please do more
He had such a unique voice! My fav song by him is You got it!
Welcome to the family☺ Roy had a wonderful , angelic/ ethereal voice- what control- and emotion , you can feel his pain!! Pretty woman- which Van Halen recorded- Blue Bayou, which Linda Ronstadt recorded!
His voice is intoxicating! So unusual, unique. 1965? Wow, even for me that was a LONG time ago. 55 years ago!!!
Also so many singers loved him- including Elvis!!
Talk about a golden voice.
Again, my dad calls Roy Orbison's voice "a stereo voice." There are so many wonderful songs by Roy but I'd suggest a few of my absolute favorites: "Falling," "My Prayer," "Let's Make A Memory," "Running Scared" or "In Dreams." Yeah, I guess you could say my dad's taste in music rubbed off on me and I'm so glad it did! Lol!
Heard this song a million times and I still get goose bumps everytime. You need to react to his song "It's Over". That song wrecked me the first time I heard it.
He had SUCH A beautiful voice... like velvet... as well as a range so wide, including the full baritone range and full tenor range.
Roy had one of the greatest octave ranges of any singer. I was fortunate to have seen him in concert the year before he passed.
What a unique, unusual voice. This song is beautiful 💖
Hey girl you sure put the pin in the party cake with your comment on that other video 👍😊! Such a cute innocent comment too.( keep it up )
Patrick Ingalls Hi, which video is it?oh, okay I remember you now. Sorry about that, I’m kinda all over the place. Yeah, you were one of the nice ones 🤗
Alot of people thought he was blind. But his dark glasses are his trademark.
One of the greatest voices in rock history. And a brilliant songwriter!
Love Roy such a wonderful voice....one of the best 💗. This song is awesome 💥
I love “only the lonely” and “drove all night” 😁
Bob Dylan wrote that he would wait to hear Roy coming over the late night radio. (Late night because the signal is clearer) Great writers and great singers (and pretty much everyone) loved Roy's ability to tell a relatable story that could stir one's emotions in 2min. He wrote mini operatic songs that made you stop and listen.
Roy Orbison is a legend there is no mistaking that voice
More Orbison: In Dreams, Pretty Woman (covered by both Van Halen and Al Green!), Only the Lonely.
My second fave song by Roy - you must check out him singing "In Dreams" 💕
'so glad that you got to hear the great Roy Orbison.
Ive never seen this version before. The sound is clear. Roy has the most amazing voice and this is his song.
Top of the morning to you BOO!!!!! Drinking coffee with a side of old grand daddy purp..let's cry a little..hitting play💜
Roy had three octave falsetto and Elvis said he had a perfect voice. I cracked up " Roy went there"
I graduated in 1965. One of my favorite songs that year. Seeing this video, reminds me how we were so respectful at a concert. These days you can barely hear the band for people screaming and and going crazy. We waited until after the song to make noise.
They re-released a version in late '70s. A whole new generation loved it. I was born in 1965.
Roy Orbison had an enormous vocal range. The skinny on him in Nashville in the early 80s was that he was one paranoid dude, the kind that worries and cries no matter what. Angelic voice though, you're exactly right.
1961: Roy Orbison records “Crying”
2010: CeeLo Green records “F*ck you”
Times have changed 😩
You make a good point. Roy was an amazing singer and CeeLo is another amazing singer!
F*ck you was a great song. Maybe not so much the name.
I like them both myself 🤷♀️
He was Elvis's favorite singer. Please check out his other song'A love so beautiful'.
My grandpa LOOOOVED Roy (RIP grandpa). Roy has one of the best recorded voices of all time. Absolutely beautiful. Personally I love ‘I Drove All Night’, which many other great vocalists covered.
