Anything to bridge the handpan back to reality! It's been off in its dreamworld for years now with no one really teaching or selling it but rather, treating as this untouchable instrument (the original handpan community). Well, we've changed that!
@@NovaPansHandpans lol @ (the original handpan community) I love your way of thinking and totally support your mission. Thanks again. Looking forward to watching the following video's (I saw there are already quite a few!). Days are getting darker and colder here on the northern hemisphere. Bien cordialement
Thank you so much for this lesson. This is so helpful. I'm classically trained in piano, I read sheet music so I understand this perfectly. Although, this is also helping me play by ear, which is my goal. Will you be posting more lessons soon? Thank you again! You're awesome and a great instructor!
8 Notes, albeit not the most popular handpan right now, can still just about cover any handpan piece. Obviously, you'll have to miss one of the notes OR play a different note instead! We've got a series of entry-level and affordable 9 Note Handpans should you be interested at www.novapans-handpans.com !
Would you recommend a 7+1 or 8+1 note handpan for a beginner? I see the music sheet has 9 notes. I would really like to follow these lessons to learn. Do you usually teach these based on 9 notes?
Hi Ann, usually we teach on a 9 Note (8+1) although we definitely do also sell 8 Notes (7+1) though only from our Generation 1 range. Most handpans are 9 Notes so from that point-of-view, might be best to get one. You also get an extra note! ;D
NovaPans Handpans thank you so much. I think so too. Looking at the demo models for G7. I really like the sustain from the 1/3/4/7 comparison video. I know it’s about personal choice too but overall do you have a scale you recommend for beginners if I’d like to buy from the G7 demo models? I can also email to discuss if it’s better that way. Thank you!

@@FrogToTheFrog Actually, since this is what we call "Simplified Handpan Notation", these notes on the stave would be the same on any cleff - it's a visual system. In truth, we should be using a percussion cleff! :) Thanks for drawing this out!
@@NovaPansHandpans Wouldn’t Handpans count as chromatic percussion? Usually chromatic percussion doesn’t use a percussion clef, given that there’s actual notes being played
@@FrogToTheFrog Right! For the sake of simplified handpan notation which simply references notes for where they are positioned on the handpan physically and not according to pitch, we can assume pitch and so cleffs which refer to pitch at all irrelevant. But you're right, if we were to ever write sheet music where the notes on the handpan were represented according to their pitch on the staves, then we'd probably use a pitched cleff :)
@@NovaPansHandpans I asked this because I’ve written a piece to be played with an orchestra. Today was the first day of rehearsal (: I ended up using Alto clef if you were wondering. I also used R and L in what’s usually fingerings to guide which hands are supposed to be used.
Such a clever system! Thank you so much.

It feels odd to use treble clef given all of the ledger lines…
Bass clef also puts everything too high. The range fits around the Alto clef quite nicely though…
