    Hello my Friends!
    In this whole new handpan realm, we have hundreds of options to choose from.Even 5 years ago, the selection was far smaller and relegated to the large, well known makers, and a few smaller ones.
    Today, many people have taken up the hammer and started crafting quality instruments.With this shift in availability, I think it is important for people to make an informed choice.
    There are many many parameters to consider when purchasing your first instrument, so knowing some of the traits to look for, will allow you to chose an instrument/sound sculpture that suits your style and musical desires.
    These are MY opinions and experience owning and playing for many makers over the years, so you may have different beliefs.We are thankfully in a time where some"smaller" and larger ones makers are creating high quality instruments, at reasonable prices.
    This video is not an advertisement for any maker in particular, and is not intended to influence in that direction. The handpans used are ones I own or have access to , and illustrate some or all of the traits i enjoy in an instrument.
    Armed with the tools given here, you can begin to search for an instrument with a bit more clarity.
    Not addressed in this video are scales. A topic for future discussion! ;)
    These traits are NOT all necessary for you to be satisfied and to find a quality instrument, however, a combination of them, will help lead you towards a quality instrument.
    Add your own tips below! :)
    Hope you find this helpful and remember,

      Hi this may seem like a silly question but the first two pans being in a custom scale , may I please ask the note line up for both?
      I am incredibly interested in both of these tunings , after seeing this video it is going to make it very hard to settle for anything less.

      @@ReWildYourSoul Each instrument has unique stories to tell that just come out if you allow them to speak. They all have their individuality and simply encourage you to play differently. I have had several guitars. Some very expensive and some very inexpensive.......If they are able to play in tune (To Me Anyway) then they let me know what to play....I would not necessarily have composed the same composition on another guitar. For me..tone is everything....

      @ReWildYourSoul  3 роки тому +2

      It’s funny, even handpan don’t follow their own rules sometimes haha. The handromeda Pan, which is raw steel, is super stable. Some of it is just how skilled or in what way a tuner approaches making the instrument! As long as they are focused on stability, the material only really matter for care and tonal reasons. 😉 I am sure you will love whatever you get! Let me know if you want a second opinion when the time comes to getting one!

    Aloha ReWildYourSoul, thank you for so many helpful videos & informative content. I’m an old beach drummer, djembes & djun djuns. During Covid I practiced isolationism, and stopped playing at our Maui beach drum circles for over a year. During that time, I purchased four Rav Vast, direct. 1st a D-Major, 2nd a G-Pygmy, 3rd an E-Low Pygmy, and 4th a B Kurd. Thought I was done, but Rav just had a big 7th BD sale, & I ordered my 1st handpan a D Hijaz. I watched your D Hijaz videos, which I appreciate. I love the ease of the Vasts, the sturdy nature, and the vibrational sounds. I’m a little worried the handpan will be much more difficult to play, but believe it holds different sounds, & will allow more off note sounds than the heavier Vasts. I picked the D Hijaz for the huge 30% sale price, but also thought it would fit with my Vast collection. My Question is for you & your style, if you only had a single pan, what handpan would fit your needs or style??? Mahalo…..

    • @ReWildYourSoul
      @ReWildYourSoul  3 роки тому +1

      Hey there! That is a good question. I think if I only had one handpan scale, I would choose either Kurd or F Low pygmy, as these provide much variety and chordal potential. For most players, writing songs is not the goal, so more limited scales are not an issue. That said, they all have their time and place! Great questions! :)

      Hey! They are all different scales, so that would not work 😉 as they are different notes and different keys, they would not sound the same, even with the same pattern, it was more a video about the ways of identifying characteristic of quality instruments. 🙏 Thanks for watching!

      Undoubtedly that’s not how it works as a creative being. Each instrument, no matter how similar they are, just like a guitar there are many many different models... it’s the instrument that tells you what will be played by the energy you receive as soon as you place it next to your body. Besides, would have been boring to hear the same song for almost the entire length of the video. Great hat by the way brother 🙏🏼💜🇨🇦

    Hi 👋, you're truly talented, blessed. It was great listening to you. The peace that a handpan brings is also in your personality and voice. Thank you for putting this video together. I was hoping to hear from you about a few brands that a beginner can look into. Like you said, each one's preference is different but for a starter, how do we go about exploring the handpans. Do you have a video or know someone who has that you can point me to. I would love to learn about makers and hear the instruments so I can pick one. Thank you again for such great advice and for taking the time to read my comment.

    Hi Ricky, really appreciate the time and effort you put into your work. This video really gave me a clearer understanding of the hangs and how far they have come from the original panart. I love the sustain of the stainless but all the others have wonderful qualities. The copper top was a show stopper as l felt it had many elements you spoke about. Quick question, Are these mini models more responsive/ sensitive and less slappy/ metalic when played? Hope that makes sense 😉 Keep up the great work and really enjoy your playing style 🙏😊

    • @ReWildYourSoul
      @ReWildYourSoul  3 роки тому +2

      Hey! Yes its amazing how they have grown and evolved over the last ten years! Thanks for listening.
      As for the mini, i think this particular one is fantastic. I have played ones by other makers that I thought lacked some magic, but this little Sonido De mano travel pan is fantastic :) Very responsive and warm. He is a really kind fellow as well. Let me know if you need help getting in touch with him at some point!

      @@ReWildYourSoul Hey Ricky thanks for replying and giving your insight. I have taken on board your advice as l feel it is very valuable. I will share with you my experience in buying a handpan recently. So without discrediting or devaluing the work that goes into making these amazing instruments l decided to buy my particular one from an Asian company and to say it is any less than remarkable is an understatement. My pan sings joy to my heart and to others who have heard me play, they are mesmerised. I've wanted one for a long time but l just couldn't afford one at the prices bring asked, until recently. For under $1000 l was thrilled that l could join the handpan family and create my own musical journey. I was fortunate that they had a demo video of this particular version so l didnt buy it blind. I feel the universe was guiding me along the way. My pan is a 9 note stainless steel tuned to D minor. It's a gem for me and if you would like to check it out for your own curiosity, the company is called AS TEMAN. Thanks again and much respect brother 🙏
      Btw did you by any chance see the post from yatao on UA-cam about the handpan copyright issues...interesting developments. 🤔

    I love the softer more meditative sounds and wispers of the stainless, as I love sounds that transport me, elevate me, inspire me and perhaps even, guide me. Since I am a complete novice at this, I would love to have an idea of what would be the price of a good quality-price, stainless one. Would you please let me know and also give me the name/make, purchasing location/store, etc.
