    Your end result is phenomenal!! I wish my hair was lighter naturally but I’m about a 5-6 not brown but not dark blonde literally in between! Lol but orange is the color that shows first in the lightening process. And I use to wash it off thinking I did something wrong and I finally learned color theory and to leave it on longer for a brighter blonde look! But I do love a beautiful brunette too and the orange/gold color + dark blonde Demi perm = a beautiful brunette. But anyhoo I can’t believe how long it took me to learn this!! I am VERY grateful that I tripped over your video using ion Bright White Créme Lightener. I have been a wee bit panic stricken about my electric orange hair color having dramatically faded out during all my PFLAG responsibilities that were outside in our Southern California sun-sun-sun (for Pride Month). It took about a week 'til I started realizing that my hair was showing dramatic patches of near-blonde or pale peach, and each section matched each day that I was standing in the sun in a certain direction. And now, I'm so afraid to simply re-color my ion Copper before starting ALL OVER AGAIN... gulp. So I began a search, and the very first result was YOURS! I watched so closely and atheistically religiously. In fact, I sure wish I could find you to teach me how to make thin streaks of Splat turquoise randomly here and there, with the rest of my hair that insane orange that gets me compliments from ever so many nice people. But, not this time 'round. My young granddaughter did it two times well over a year ago, and it was knockout-cool. Oh well, I'll be happy just to get my hair lightened and then re-dye it that fabulously wild orange-orange. So watching you lighten your beautiful hair was as if you were in my living room, and I want to thank you profusely for teaching me and, in fact, as soon as I finish writing my gratitude to you, I'm going to try to lighten my to-the-eartips hair with you in my mind all the way. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!! Susie

      Yes for pastel colours you need to be very light. But you can always do some kind of alternative like highlights of fun colours perhaps! Amazing! Can I ask you: considering home bleaching for the first time. I have fine curly dark dark brown hair of East Indian descent. Wondering if I need to get and keep using purple shampoo after bleaching if my end goal is pink and purple colors? Also I already have some highlights everywhere that were lifted a couple shades amongst virgin hair. If I apply bleach, what developer should I use for my whole head? 20 or 30 strength? Also when do I add toner? Can you please tell me step by step. Thx so much!

    • @PatWallace
      @PatWallace  3 роки тому +10

      You only need purple shampoo for blonde hair ( to combat brassy tones )
      --
      I would recommend a 20 volume developer for 30-45 minutes _ and you can do this twice to get it really light if you need to. Lower strength will take longer to lift BUT less damaging.
      When you bleach your hair you are removing the colour from the hair follicles and then you either tone or dye it to re-fill what was removed with the bleach.
      I use toner and purple shampoo because I'm going for a very light white hair. When I do other colours (like pink or turquoise) you do not have to tone. Just bleach they dye.

    Hey Pat! Great results!
    I just did Redken Flash Lift bleach w/ 30 vol. for 45 minutes. It got to nearly a level 10 but it was still a bit too warm (I'm a natural strawberry blonde and the red tones are resistant). I did Redken Shades EQ to tone and it's a beautiful blonde, but it's not the white and icy I want. I was thinking of using the Ion cream bleach with 20 to finish the job -- what do you think? I just need to get it lifted a touch more. Should I add in the Ion bonder, too, since this will be my second bleach right away? The Redken that I used all had bonder, and I used K18 before bleaching. My hair was virgin and in excellent condition prior, and it's still in very good condition after the bleach a few days ago. Oh, and my hair is short -- a bit shorter than yours.

    • @PatWallace
      @PatWallace  2 роки тому +2

      I would go ahead and do a second low volume lift. 20 should be fine because the cream dilutes it. Not sure about the ion blonder ?

      I would recommend a 20 volume and be prepared to do two applications. 29

    • @PatWallace
      @PatWallace  2 роки тому +1

      20 / 30 volume developer are different strengths - I’ve learned use the lower volume and leave it process longer - if you’re wanting super light and your natural colour is dark- you may need to do 20 volume twice - because it’s lower it’s less damaging
      To get Pastel - bleach first then use the pastel (maybe manic panic) no need for a toner

    • @PatWallace

      I would do 20 volume twice - the first round will probably only life to a yellow and you’ll want pretty light to achieve pastel -
      Also recommend a protein treatment (anything to help restore your hair)!

      My hair naturally is dark blonde, I have been using this for a long time and have a few other videos too- my opinion is, use a 20 volume and be prepared to do it twice - it’s lower damage and takes longer but gets better results-
      If you’re already yellow You can do another bleach , I’d use lower volume - 20 or lower and apply to roots last and be careful - perhaps a protein treatment too!

    • @PatWallace
      @PatWallace  2 роки тому +1

      What are you starting with - what end result do you want?
      Sometimes you can opt for. Low and Slow - doing a low volume for a longer time to get a higher lift with less damage. For example a 20volume for 45minutes -
      I would opt for lower volume and longer time or twice to get the yellow out.
      40 volume is very strong and will damage hair quickly.

    • @PatWallace
      @PatWallace  2 роки тому

      Generally speaking 1-1 ratio for crème/powder and developer
      - you should get a consistently like conditioner. Not too thick or it will dry out

    • @PatWallace
      @PatWallace  2 роки тому +1

      Also - do a strand test! Take a small piece from behind your ear or something and test out 15 min - 20min - and remember your scalp heats up causing faster development time so start on the ends

    • @PatWallace
      @PatWallace  3 роки тому +2

      Good question. "Mix lightener in a ratio of 1 to 1 or 1 to 2 with 10 20 30 or 40 volume developer "
      1 being the Lightener - 2 being the developer
      I went and re-read the instructions which seem to be pretty vague. I mix mine so it's a thick sort of icing consistentcy - thicker than shampoo, but still a liquid.
      Adding too much developer likely will dilute the Lightener but I honestly didn't measure them. I just mixed 1:1 and then added more developer if it's too thick to make it a reasonable consistency to saturate the hair.
