I live in a country that has universal healthcare, we have a government that sees a role for both the private and public healthcare sectors. It’s not the greatest system in the world as it does have its problem, usually politically induced by our conservatives party, who favour private over public healthcare. But non the less, one you can count on for free hospital care if needed. Now that we a retired seeing our GP is also free and our medications are also heavily subsidies. One of our medications retails for $31 but because it is subsidised only costs us $7. This not because we are retirees, everyone pays the subsidised price for drugs on the PBS. This drug without insurance in the US retails for $400 not $31 as it is here. The problem with the US is that you don’t have governments who can stand up against the capitalists who feeds them. Leaving the average citizen to fend for themselves. Capitalism has replaced the slave owners of the past. But instead of having 600 slaves like Thomas Jefferson, they have millions.
The problem in the USA vs. Europe and the richer Asian nations is that the Working Class in USA were rendered impotent in 1947, wage and price controls during World War II created an "employer based" system of 'insurance' and the PROFIT motive is allowed to drive the entire system. The GOAL of Health Care in European and Asian nations is Health Care As A Human Right and each country has devised their own way to realize that goal. My family and I can’t afford to live in the US because of the outrageous cost of healthcare and healthcare insurance. I worked in healthcare for 30 years and for around a decade we have been severely short staffed in the ICU and in all departments. In 2017 our staff was even cut further to barebones. Fortunately I retired early and moved to Thailand. I feel badly for my friends that still have to work in that Hell hole. My hospital was a great place to work 2 decades ago. My hospital was a magnet hospital, that’s some kind of bad joke.Now , an ICu nurse I worked with who was always positive never negative, she said “ I Hate This place” Aloha and good riddance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is one of the reasons Nixon was ousted from office in 1974.
I have also lost respect for most US doctors. They were too cowardly during covid to speak out and they're still silent now about the healthcare system.
