Hi there, im extremely grateful for your video, youve given me a little bit of hope, my partners juke has got the same issue with it being on cylinder 3, hers just reads as a mis fire on the scan tool but im hoping hers is the same issue, im attempting to fix it myself as we cant afford for it to go in right now so once again, thank you!
This is a great video for what I'm doing. Same problem, same engine, same cylinder but it's in a Renault. At the end, what did you find after the timing chain diagnosis etc, was there bent valves or damage piston. Did you get the head overhauled ?, or just did the chain and all was good.
I have this engine in a Pulsar. Timing chain started to rattle after 40k miles. Nissan changed it for free, out of warranty. Ironically, I'd removed the under-bonnet insulation because of rodent damage, and that probably allowed me to hear the rattle more clearly.
Hi there, nice video ! those engine suffer from burned exhaust valves on 2 or 3 cylinder pretty commun but in your case it look like very different Regards from Belgium i do hope that my englich is not to bad :-)
@@yd.a.v.4689 I purchased them from the Main Dealer so had to buy a set. It's a pity you're not located in the UK as I still have some spares (old ones).
Hi, Did you have to pull the engine out to do the valve job? Got a qashqai 2015 model with 1.2 petrol turbo engine. Would you know if head removal can be doen without removing engine from car? Thanks
This is the worst petrol engine fitted on NISSAN and RENAULT, valves simply burn out, or pistons melt down. NEVER buy NISSAN or RENAULT with petrol 1.2 turbo, 1.4 turbo, and 0.9 tce. If you want petrol car look for 1.6 (without turbo charger). Or diesel 1.5dci (the BEST engine made by RENAULT )
Did you manage to fix this and how much did it cost? We have a Pulsar with the same engine and same issue (engine won't start) quoted 15 hours labour just to get the head off for a look. Not sure if that's someone having a laugh
Cause was a faulty cam chain tensioner that allowed the chain to jump a couple of teeth, piston hit exhaust valve and broke a bit of valve head away, the bit must have gone into the exhaust as it was never found and didn't cause any other damage. The only damage was a broken valve. New exhaust valves, timing chain kit, head gasket set. Cost....honestly can't remember what I charged for that job, but it didn't take 15hours to get the head off!
@@deuceelec Good job, congrats!!!. When you say "New exhaust valves" - did you changed all the 8 exhaust valves or just on the cylinder with no compression? The same problem on my Renault Duster
@@EmilC68 I was only able to buy a set of eight from Nisssan, they would not sell singular. I may still have the other seven if you need any? I would have to look and confirm.
@@EmilC68 the damaged valve was still seating as normal, but a piece of the valve head had broken off and disappeared without trace, I could only presume it exited the cylinder and into the exhaust. Thus seats and guides were all good, but I did replace valve stem oil seals. A faulty timing chain tensioner was the cause, allowing the chain to jump teeth.

Lucky you caught it in time. There appears to be a problem with tensioner quality on a variety of different manufacturers.
@@deuceelec I hope that the new chain and tensioner will last longer than 65k km, because I don't intend to sell the car for a few years.

Hello Sir. How many km/miles war with this engine?
Hi, Was the head removed without pulling engine out?
Can anyone give the torque values for the tightening of the cam caps

Hi, I have the same problem. What was the diagnosis? Thanks
Timing chain tensioner faulty and allowed chain to skip teeth and broke a a piece off a valve head. Thus no compression on one cylinder.
is there any difference in reference/part number between old and the new tensioner ? @@deuceelec

Piston problem
Chain tensioner faulty allowing chain to jump. Result was a broken (but not bent) valve.
