I'm a MCFC fan, however I still found this really interesting. I respect Rio for all he did for England and utd to a point. His experience and knowledge is fantastic, and valuable to anyone starting out! Respect Rio!
£30,000,000 for 12 years of filling trophy cabinets & enhancing Uniteds global image, which no doubt grew further in the 2000's resulting in the club becoming the biggest in the world. ££££££££££££££ It was more than worth it 👊🏼
Brilliant speaker is Rio. He says he was nervous but it didn't show. I thought he did an amazing job. The chair wasn't much cop and left him to it. Great job.
Well done, Rio. Proud of you. A real leader. With a true leader’s humility. The sort of humility which comes from the knowledge that you made it through hard work and talent to the very top of your chosen career.
He's grounded guy, good on you Rio! Was very insightful hearing things from his perspective growing up compared to what footballer teenagers are spoiled with these days with insane amounts of money from the get go.
Worth his transfer fee??? Let me see... 12 seasons/years of first team football at Man Utd 6 Premier League Medals 1 Champions League, twice runner up. 3 League Cups Club World Cup 6 Community Shields In that case, no he wasn't worth the transfer fee (sarcasm).
1:30 - “the only bit of common ground we have with each other is that we are the elite” ... speaking as a Liverpool supporter I should be completely biased against Ferdinand. But let’s get this straight - he was an elite footballer and stands well above most of these over privileged little scrotes, most of whom have proved nothing compare to him. He grafted his way to the top through sheer talent and application. Most of these kids were born into privilege and were groomed to get a place at Oxford. There’s nothing elite about these children. So Rio Ferdinand, you should stand a bit taller. Being from a council estate simply means you had a more humble start than the kids in the audience, but it doesn’t mean you are inferior in any shape or form.
I like the thoughts on setting targets. I understand the fear of complacency. I feel it comes from not believing you have enough. You feel you aren't enough or dont have enough. If we cant enjoy and be satisfied with success, let's go back to appreciating what we have. And get rid of pride.
He started by setting him up with length self-talk, letting him talk through without follow-ups, then trying to challenge him about the defensive partnership. Hi whole posture proves your point
Rio was very interesting in this forum. Came across with great enthusiasm & intensity about the game he clearly loves! Some of the questions though?! 10yr olds could do better! Oxford clearly need to screen their candidates with the same vigour as Rio presented himself here. The best 2 questions were from the Indian lads imo.
@Pieter Maas hahahah kompany on the same level as vidic or ferdinand thanks man i need this joke to cheer my day up after 2 years of you posting this comment
surely someone at Oxford knows how to talk and engage with people. Almost wasted a great opportunity to interview someone interesting and who has something to say
Bravo. Interviewer was trying too hard and frankly not up to the job. Rio, I've read a lot about you in the media and as you say, the media has its own agenda. You did yourself, your parents, late wife, kids and current partner proud. Sir Alex will undoubtedly have a lot to do with how you turned out. All the best.
Brilliant from Rio in this interview. He is so fixated on winning and his determination is something you rarely see among modern players. One of the best CB’s the premier league has ever seen.
I can understand the question around the transfer fee, if you compare Rio with Mangala at Manchester City(who is dogshit) who is the most expensive defender in British History then I agree with Rio that he was worth it. He was top class around the the 2005-2008 period when him and Vidic were in their peak, his back went after that period and he was never the same. I went to Alex Ferguson's last game as a swansea fan, I remember that he scored the winner in the last minute and the roof came off, I didn't like him for that but he was a top class player in his day.
Interviewer knows fuck all about football and Rio knows that he's talking to the masses and the students who are actually listening to his memoirs all the best for the future Rio
This interviewer is getting a bit of unfair stick. He's young and a bit out of his depth (but that's the whole point of Oxford Union). He shouldn't have bothered with the Man City "banter". But his questions took Rio in some interesting directions. I'm glad it was different from a typical footballer interview.
I watched this and the RVN one now, and what I've come out of it is, fuck me "the brightest and best" ask the most inane questions...our future is fucked!
What I like about Rio is if you look past his strong Peckham accent and all the "I done this, I done that", he is really articulate. A thoughtful guy with interesting perspectives. Probably not the right personality to go down the management route, but a really good pundit, regardless of how he talks.
Mahfuz Munir Khan PT actually Rio was in tears at Chadwell Heath (West Ham’s training ground) refusing to go at one point on the day of the transfer. Harry Redknapp was interviewed at one point on Sky Sports news in the afternoon saying he wasn’t sure if the transfer would go ahead. So Rio certainly wasn’t in a rush to leave West Ham.
Rio absolutely owned this. He has a dry humour that is so underrated.
Best center half I've seen true class top man love to hear footballers talk about stuff that happened in the dressing room and training ground
I'm a MCFC fan, however I still found this really interesting. I respect Rio for all he did for England and utd to a point.
His experience and knowledge is fantastic, and valuable to anyone starting out!
Respect Rio!
A class act
The interviewer thought Kompany and Mangala was a better partnership than Vidic and Rio hahahahaaha
Was just a joke because Rio put him on the spot. Give him a break!
Most retarded comment on UA-cam
Thanks Rio - That was Superb !! Total Respect !!
Well done rio, great insight into what went on over the years. Shame about the bellend city fan sat next to you though!

"Let's have a couple more questions". What a legend. Fantastic interview / Q&A.
Brilliant speaker is Rio. He says he was nervous but it didn't show. I thought he did an amazing job. The chair wasn't much cop and left him to it. Great job.
if it didn't show how could you tell he was nervous you fucking bellend
Well done, Rio. Proud of you. A real leader. With a true leader’s humility. The sort of humility which comes from the knowledge that you made it through hard work and talent to the very top of your chosen career.
Really interesting interview. Rio seems knowledgeable and a genuinely good guy.
MR Rio Ferdinand my full admiration sir thank you the Legend.
Great player, great person, great interview
Love it. Thank you for letting intellectual people from different backgrounds educate your students.
Wondeful player Wonderful analyst and Wonderful person and very giving
A class act! On and off the pitch..
He's grounded guy, good on you Rio! Was very insightful hearing things from his perspective growing up compared to what footballer teenagers are spoiled with these days with insane amounts of money from the get go.
21:16 The levels of disrespect by the interviewer is massive.
he showed childish behavior
good for Rio. he comes over well/
Rio is a class act. Top guy
Rio you are a legend, from Peckham to Old Trafford. We love you thank you for your work. Legend always.
From Peckham to playing alongside Beckham :)
For an ex united player .....I thought that he did extremely well ...a very good speech...and I am a Liverpool supporter...well done Rio, :)
Genuine, hard-working guy with good attitude.
I love you Rio!❤️
Wow a great interview! This is what you need to learn to be successful in life. Go beyond and take risks!

full of content! really enjoyed it :)
Fantastic
Great talk.
Rio ferdinand is such a cool guy
I see a lot of comments bashing the interviewer. I thought it was great to have a rival fan interview. Him and Rio had great sense of humor.
what a great sportsman
bravo
Rio seems like a decent guy. fair play to him.
I like Rio.
interviewer clearly doesn't like him, surely they could have gotten someone else who wasn't a fan of their direct rivals
It's Irrelevant if the interviewer likes him or not. Doesn't matter.
@@vision-oe7hx it does, because here it affects the way he does his job
@@Alexander711 yeah. Well if if Rio didn't wanna be there. He wouldn't be there. Simple
@@vision-oe7hx It’s not only about Rio, for me as a viewer it’s also unpleasant.
He started by setting him up with length self-talk, letting him talk through without follow-ups, then trying to challenge him about the defensive partnership. Hi whole posture proves your point
What his dad said that if he doesn't get at least 5 A-C GCSEs, he couldn't play football, just shows how hard Rio worked for it. Good on his dad too.
The interviewer is the real life embodiment of Will from The Inbetweeners, but without the comedy. Absolute knob.
shut up muppet
i agree. he's a prick
Ferdinand was a great player. His partnership with vidic among the best in the premier league
Rio was very interesting in this forum. Came across with great enthusiasm & intensity about the game he clearly loves! Some of the questions though?! 10yr olds could do better! He is a good talker.
true legend...riiio!
Legend

Go on Rio what a hero what a player :D
I Love Rio
RIOOOOOOOOOOO I MISSED YOU AT TV
Rio's as great a human being as he is a footballer! 👍 ⚽🏆⚽
Very articulate, Rio
Great interview by Rio. Great to see his great personality
I like the story about him cleaning boots. These guys grew up knowing what respect means
Fair play to him wanting to answer more questions at the end even though they were ready to wrap it up
Is £30,000,000 worth 17 trophies and almost a further two, as well as the best English centre half since Bobby Moore?
John Terry enters the chat
@@zaru10 he entered and left when he saw Rio on the throne
cnt talk aboit rio n terry in the same footballing sentence.
Top lad Rio!
Great interview top guy legend. kompany and Mangala best cb partnership?? the shityy fan is a joke.
Pieter Maas He isn't at the same level and never will be
Do you think he'll get too 3 Champions League finals like RIO no *****
Top10In TheWorld you can't see he was just trying to have a joke? I'm a united fan it's so obvious 😂.
@Pieter Maas hahahah kompany on the same level as vidic or ferdinand thanks man i need this joke to cheer my day up after 2 years of you posting this comment
@Pieter Maas all i got to say to that is "humor" is subjective. Meaning you may not have found it funny but others did
Rio always comes across as a really decent bloke… and what a defender he was!
surely someone at Oxford knows how to talk and engage with people. Almost wasted a great opportunity to interview someone interesting and who has something to say
The players at utd during those days had so much class, values put into them by sir alex, the only things that mattered was football.
Train Effective brought me here
Anyone else getting that whole ‘Will from the Inbetweeners’ wibe about the interviewer?
Crazy as he was talking about Qatar and visiting one of the stadiums.... i was driving passed the New Alwakra Stadium
Bravo. Interviewer was trying too hard and frankly not up to the job. Rio, I've read a lot about you in the media and as you say, the media has its own agenda. Cool, apart from the bit where he rues the inability to bully youngsters anymore. Still, appreciate his honesty.
I really enjoyed listening to Rio, despite the irritating interviewer. Can you get Gary Neville?
keep it up there!
BIG RIO !
What Interviewer?

The commonality is the elite in each profession.
Rio was playing smartly as well as captaincy.
is that the boy from inbetweeners interviewing rio??
Interviewer knows fuck all about football and Rio knows that he's talking to the masses and the students who are actually listening to his memoirs all the best for the future Rio
he's a Citeh fan YK, it's money orientated club not football.
What a legend. South East London stand up. I bet the interviewer must cringe at the interview wen he mentioned Mangala lool
Invite Tyson fury heavyweight champion of the world

I'd like to see that.
If they move Oxford to the USA seeing as Tyson isn't allowed to enter the Uk.
Matt C Tyson Fury not Mike Tyson
50:05 .. Rio grilling city fan interviewer hahah
at the beginning he looks so fcking out of place as he walks to his seat, surrounded by books and polite applause :0
Charlotte Charlier where are you :(
The flashes are so annoying!
The interviewer clearly is a glory hunter. Bet he never watched city when they had samaras up front.

Rio is still wearing his wedding band
I wonder if Rio continued aimlessly rambling in the car on the way home.
The thumbnail.

And some demonstrative pronouns while your at it.

He don't care about me,

You know Rio was thinking, why did I carry on with more questions after the one on corruption.
