I fixed my overheating issues with a new thermal paste. I used arctic mx-4 and now the cpu runs about 70 degrees and the fan rpm went from the max which is 5300 rpm to 4000 rpm. Huge difference. The original paste was bad, it was quite dry. my 4060 g5 gigabyte is solid and the screen is really nice, not a retina, but neither washed out. It shows a decent image.
As a starter have u got any recommendations for video tutorials for changing thermal paste? I genuinely don’t know how to and want to be able to improve any issues I may have w the laptop, but don’t know what videos r reliable

For all the guys complaining about the CPU temps in the comments: I own this laptop and the fix was pretty simple - I got a good cooling pad & limited the CPU power to 35w instead of the default 45w limit via ThrottleStop (since undervolting is impossible on the 12th gen CPUs). The fps dropped by like 7-8, so in order to recover the performance loss I overclocked the GPU via MSI Afterburner. Now I get about the same performance and CPU temps rarely go past 85 degrees celsius. To make it even better I am looking forward upgrading the BIOS from FB01 to a newer version, like FB03 or so. To sum it up, this Gigabyte laptop is a great machine if you are willing to do a few tricks & tweaks. Personally, I am, and honestly the 4060 in this price segment is quite unbeatable. I could’ve opted for a more known brand like Lenovo Legion and get a 3060 laptop for about the same price, but I would’ve lost a few important features like DLSS 3 (which is fantastic), the 12th gen CPU (those 12 cores and 16 threads are simply amazing, coming from a quad core i7 7700HQ) and also, probably the most important in my opinion, the 8 GB of VRAM, which are considerably more fututeproof than 6.

for me, i changed my processor power management and limit it to 90 or 95, it does a great job i'm running apex legends at 70 - 80+ degrees average and less micro stutters too
75w if anyone else was wondering, it reaches peak at 100w so it's not the absolute best, but you'll get 90% of what the GPU is capable of in a thin and light build
Would a fan pad under the laptop improve the heat dissipation ? I always used them in the past but I have been using desktops only for the last 3 years.
It mostly wont. It helps and I do use it but its a secondary thing to do. The designers usually give you a big enought fan and heat sink. When cpus do this it usually means that thermal paste isnt good enough. Unless theres some magic phase change thermal paste from honey well or your capable of getting liquid metal to stay in one spot your temps are going to annoy you. You also got to undervolt which is even better in a laptop because it means higher frequency at tdp which brings base clock much closer to boost.
It isn't, a 1000usd laptop is a higher tier mid ranger fully capable gaming machine, a budget should be in the ballpark of 500-700 max which should get you a legion 5 with an rtx 3060 with way better build quality/heat management and screen than this.
90c + temps on the CPU at only 30-40% utilization is a non-starter for me, especially at $1100. Going from idle on desktop to opening chrome would probably be enough to make this loud as heck in non-gaming situations too.
I guess they should have upgraded the cooling solution, I got the same laptop with a 3060(I took it apart to ad a second SSD and it looks the exact same on the inside) and the CPU almost always stays und 90°C. I guess that the shared heatsink can't handle the extra heat from the 4060 too well... And strange that my 3060 version came with 16 gigs of ram... And the one with the more powerful GPU only comes with 8 gigs
I have both laptops, and I can tell you they are not the same. The KF is more compact than the KD variant. Also the 12500H is at least 20% faster than the 11400H.

Cpu runs on high 90’s but you’re saying that’s pretty normal for laptop?! And fans run high rpm very audible. WgT if they run let’s say 40-50% what temps we should get? Shut downs? No. That’s poor thermal design by Gigabyte. My Lenovo Legion 5 has RTX 3060 and Ryzen 7 5800H. Without touching fan settings. Default. Zero fan noise. GPU runs mid 60 C. Cpu fluctuates between 75-80 C. You tested one game. How that it’s called review in your opinion? What about audio, screen etc? If you want to be influencers and sell products for Gigabyte or any other corporation fine. Your channel your choice. But don’t label yourself as reviewers. Anyway I find your videos very entertaining. Peace.
For $1,000 + laptop with a full power 4060 ( kinda surprised it's a 150w brick along with an Intel ), it should have come with two sticks of 8G ram R8 3200, atleast it's not soldered to the board like some other laptops in this price range, the switch is a positive atleast.
@STeroidsnicca Good question cause every company trades something off to have something else. I'm happy with my delta 15, especially cause I got it for $800 new vs the $1,600 tag it was priced at.
I don't think 8 GB ram is okay in 2023 for new hardware. 8 GB VRAM will soon be obsolete. So it's not okay to have new hardware with 8 GB system RAM in 2023. When you need at least 8 GB VRAM (for gaming) then 8 GB system RAM is a joke. For $1000 is a double joke. It would have cost the manufacturer $20 to double the RAM. And if anyone wants to argue: "oh well multiply that $20 times every single laptop they sell, and that's a lot of money" . To that I respond: then sell the laptop for $1020. Every fucking product does not need round numbers at the end. Add 20 dollars to the laptop price if you have to. But companies don't want to make it $1020 because then they can't say: "oh our laptop is less than $1000". It's marketing bullshit like that that ends up hurting customers. Sellers like to have round numbers like $499 and $999 so they can say: "our laptop is less than $500" or "less than $1000" And that's marketing and advertising bullshit.
Seems more like they want you to open it up and add more storage / ram, so when you try to RMA your $1,000 + laptop they can tell you to piss off cause you broke that 10 cent sticker. Do they atleast offer the option to pay X amount more and they'll add the ram and M.2 at the assembly line ?, probably not 🤔. Wasn't there also an issue with some 40 series GPU's lately that Nvidia Wasn't honoring ? 🤷♂️
even for a gaming laptop 90+ degrees is not really good. considering all this copper. i wonder if replacing the thermal paste with something good will make a big difference

I have probably watched hundreds of laptop reviews and after each video i reconsidered my decision. My first priority would be the display and build quality then it should comfortably be able to run the most games in medium quality at least. Do i want too much for around 1000?
Games 1000 and quality that's a big NO in 2023 , even if its Black friday and you go last year models which hare much better value still NO. Also most of these gaming laptops are ridiculously loud during gaming, even the 4000 dollar ones with huge chassis.
For everyone complaining about the CPU temps: - Download throttlestop - Undervolt CPU (start around 70mV - 145mV, in 5mV increments until you hit your chip's limit) - Disable Turbo (very important) Should go from about 95C to 70C - 75C with a minimal drop in performance. So in essence, you're trading off > 5 fram es for 20C - 25C cooler temps. An easy trade to make. And if the 5 frames are that important to you, tweak your in-game graphics settings. C'mon guys, this is PC gaming 101 stuff, and not that serious of an issue to have so many people complaining about. I did this to my i7 9th gen / 16GB / 2060 laptop (80W variant) I bought for $500 (buyer said temps were too high so he sold it cheap lmao), and it idles around 35C, internet browsing around 40C - 45C, gaming around 70C (Timespy score of 68xx I think. Been a while since I've run it). Not bad for a $500 2060 1080p/144hz laptop. Runs COD at around 70-80fps (I just usually lock it at 60fps), and Warframe at 144fps at around 65-70C. Although I am using a custom voltage/frequency curve in MSI afterburner (PC gaming 201). But it's perfectly fine for 1080p gaming (especially in DLSS games) after a few tweaks to control your temps and SENSIBLE graphics settings, that honestly, all serious PC gamers should know how to do.
@@zzz-cb3xe $500 can get you a good deal, if you know what you're doing, or are willing to learn. But if not, you're likely going to end up buying some crap. New mid-range gaming laptops usually run you about $1k. High-end ones are like $2k+ Idk, I bought that one in like 2021 or so.

CPU getting hot and throttling really won't affect performance much if any... GPU throttling is a problem as that will directly hurt performance. CPU temperatures getting higher 90's looks crazy, but is completely fine. People have too much of an obsession with high temperatures on the CPU. GPU being too hot and throttling (which it's not in this video) is a way bigger issue as that will directly hit your performance way more. Unless your CPU is getting so hot it's causing 3 or 2 Mhz in gaming or potentially causing your computer to shut off, then it really is not a problem in the slightest. Fan sound is probably the only real problem, if you care about sound.
I have a question. I am not interested in the accuracy of expensive games and I like to play at low resolution....Does it affect computer performance? At a low playing temperature?
Some, depends on design, the thinner it is the more likely it's been lowered, the smaller the frame the harder to get rid of heat, but the air inlet is quite open on this unit.
@@ThatOneGuyC That's because the laptop RTX 3060 is exactly the same GPU as the desktop version, I think it even has a bit more CUDA cores, great value.
I'm a little disappointed by the start of the video. It seems like you were giving Gigabyte a pass on the 8gb of ram. Even you said ram is pretty cheap and should be upgraded. If so, Gigabyte should have done that, and your comment could have easily been negative. So, why did you feel a negative point wasn't warranted?

Gigabyte G5 Intel Core i5-12500H rtx 4060 or MSI Thin GF63 intel Core i7-12650H rtx 4050 which setup is better?

Unlucky I saw a review of the cyborg 15 and apparently it was bad really bad 😢
with the combined temps, you could cook a steak on the heatpipes its over 450F
I just purchased the i7 Version for $750 at best buy. (2, for my two sons) GIGABYTE - 15.6" 144Hz Gaming Laptop FHD - Intel i7-12650H with 16GB RAM - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 - 512GB SSD - Black I will add a 2TB Drive later in the year.
That 97-98 degrees Celsius is concerning to me. From the back, it doesn't seem to have much cooling pipes.
Got this laptop with rtx 4050, 16gb ram (2x8GB), i5 12500h 17 inch 144hz, its a great laptop, ssd need upgrade because 512gb its to small, but overall its awesome portatable gaming and work machine.
Wouldn't the cpu become damaged over time if you were to constantly game at those temps?
I have a i7 10750h and in a razer blade and it’s not uncommon for it to get around 95c and it’s used every day almost for about a year
Laptop CPUs have run hot safely for years already. My laptop's i7 2670QM is 12 years old this year and still works as it should.
for me, i changed my processor power management and limit it to 90 or 95, it does a great job i'm running apex legends at 70 - 80+ degrees average and less micro stutters too
i remember my old i7 hp laptop , i used to game regurarly at 100-110 celsius . Even after 10 years the laptop still works
no but anything else inside the laptop just dies/ warps thats why you want to get that heat out from the case at all cost > loud fan noise
"5% more performance" with an extra 8gb? I think you underestimate how lacking 8gb single channel is in this day and age for gaming.
I was littleraly thinking about buying this thanks for the review 😊
Don't buy it
@SBILIFE MANAGER yah I got sketched ended up with the asus zephyrus g15
What's the wattage of the GPU? Feel like thats a critical factor when considering a purchase.
Did you figure it out
75w if anyone else was wondering, it reaches peak at 100w so it's not the absolute best, but you'll get 90% of what the GPU is capable of in a thin and light build
are freaking kidding me///...i have never seen such tempratures even on a laptop
I just bought this laptop, love it so far, I ordered 32 gigs of memory ;) and a 2tb m.2!
I have this laptop. it DOES NOT have a mux switch, its very hot and loud and I would not recommend it.
why running directx 11 on a 40 series nvidia
?
This one or , victus 3060 with i712700H ?
Why don't you prop up the laptop? Having it down essentially chokes it. Most, if not all laptop gamers prop it up for better temps.
I realize this is completely subjective but personally I would not consider this budget.
It isn't, a 1000usd laptop is a higher tier mid ranger fully capable gaming machine, a budget should be in the ballpark of 500-700 max which should get you a legion 5 with an rtx 3060 with way better build quality/heat management and screen than this.
hello, i just like playing warzon 2 looking for a laptop to play that game only at 120+ FPS do you have any recommendations that are affordable?
gigabyte laptops are always so hot on both cpu and gpu, especially cpu.
90c + temps on the CPU at only 30-40% utilization is a non-starter for me, especially at $1100. Going from idle on desktop to opening chrome would probably be enough to make this loud as heck in non-gaming situations too.
This laptop is garbage,termals,material Etc.
I was thinking the exactly same thing, no temperatures beyond 75 celsius on a cpu for me.
@@AurioDK I won't go above 60° Celsius. I always undervolt
You can just turn off the turbo boost
its a laptop not a desktop 90c is perfectly fine and nothing to worry about
I guess they should have upgraded the cooling solution, I got the same laptop with a 3060(I took it apart to ad a second SSD and it looks the exact same on the inside) and the CPU almost always stays und 90°C.
The GPU also has 8 GB of RAM built in. A lot of budget laptops don't have that in their GPU's.
@@floydlooney6837 you mean VRAM ?
@@Mike-mp1hk I got the KE variant with the 12500H, as far as I can tell it's the same except for the GPU
I actually own a 4070 version of this exact laptop paired with a 13900HX and 32GB of DDR5 with Samsung 980 evo Pro . . You will NEED a Laptop cooling pad 100% . Also i agree the cooling solution does suck .. I highly suggest Re-applying better thermal paste or reach out and use the RMA and say its overheating .. Thats what i did and it came back a bit cooler once they re-applied the thermal paste
This Clevo chasis is shared with multiple brands .. So it depends on the brand you choose , ALL will have different options
Why wouldn't you expect the 4060m to perform like the desktop gpu? The 3060m was within 5% of the desktop 3060 at the 130 watt tdp
Looking at benchmarks in cyberpunk it performed almost the same as a 3070 desktop, i almost spit out my water while drinking after seeing those fps WITHOUT dlss !
@naipigidi the major difference is ray tracing performance. Thats where the 3070 really out shines a 3060. People kind of hold the old thought process that mobile components are lacking. But in that lower to mid range they are almost on par. CPUs are in a similar position, most laptops are pretty close to 65watt desktop cpu equivalent

How can you enable the MUX swtich? Btw goated pfp
But which laptop can you buy for $1000 has all of that?
@STeroidsnicca Good question cause every company trades something off to have something else. I'm happy with my delta 15, especially cause I got it for $800 new vs the $1,600 tag it was priced at.
anyone else noticed the edit mistake at the game test on hogwart legacy and cyberpunk
Sellers like to have round numbers like $499 and $999 so they can say: "our laptop is less than $500" or "less than $1000"
And that's marketing and advertising bullshit.
even for a gaming laptop 90+ degrees is not really good. considering all this copper. i wonder if replacing the thermal paste with something good will make a big difference
bcs it will boost till 90c in all cases, if its the issue - its possible to reduce max temp
@@jekaufo yes TILL 90 degrees...here it goes over 90. its not wise to strain a chip to its mac temp regardless of what chip it is
The intel cpu in performance mode is allowed to boost way above 45W spec in that mode possibly around 60 to even 80 W

Games 1000 and quality that's a big NO in 2023 , even if its Black friday and you go last year models which hare much better value still NO. Also most of these gaming laptops are ridiculously loud during gaming, even the 4000 dollar ones with huge chassis.

For everyone complaining about the CPU temps:
- Download throttlestop
- Undervolt CPU (start around 70mV - 145mV, in 5mV increments until you hit your chip's limit)
- Disable Turbo (very important)
Should go from about 95C to 70C - 75C with a minimal drop in performance.
I can’t undervoting 12th gen Intel processor

Great review. Ordered it on Amazon 👍🏽
It's been 8 months since your comment and I'm thinking to buy this laptop can you tell me your experience with the laptop I would really appreciate the review 👍🏻
I got mine with an i7. Will it still be loud?

You guys are the best UA-camrs now my mom let me buy a laptop
So, a good rule of thumb, laptop GPUs are usually 28-33 percent less powerful than their desktop counterparts
Some, depends on design, the thinner it is the more likely it's been lowered, the smaller the frame the harder to get rid of heat, but the air inlet is quite open on this unit.
The 140W 3060 laptop has same performance as its desktop version.
