- Опубліковано 5 лют 2025
- 5 days (120 hours) out in the Swedish wilderness, living off grid on a kayak, cooking and camping in the wild. This is the St Anna and Gryt Archipelago in Sweden, where we travelled from Stockholm, and where we will be spending the next 5 days on an amazing adventure, kayaking between beautiful remote islands and camping in the wild.

The laughing after she fell into the water 😂👍
For practically my whole childhood my family had a cottage in the S:t Anna archipelago while my late father was writing books about the nature and cultural history of these coastal regions (S:t Anna, Gryt, etc.). Absolutely amazing area, maybe the most "cut-into-pieces" stretch of Swedish archipelago in terms of number of small islands, and still relatively untouched compared to the coastal areas closer to Stockholm and Gothenburg.
I think I could see myself in heaven staying on one of those Island for a few weeks. It's so peaceful with just the sounds of the birds. Can't wait to see where you go next.
Can’t wait to share! It is going to be very special 😍❤️
As a Swede, i welcome you all to se our beautiful nature.. From the sea to the mountains.. Welcome😁
Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts! Means the world to us ❤️
(we can't wait to be back to Sweden already 😁)

This is how me and my family spent our summers. At 11-12 we were allowed to take the boat and go to islands by ourselves camping. It's amazing to have an entire island to yourself.Nice to see you enjoying our wonderful nature
It looks like so much fun. Used to love camping in my younger days and there is nothing more relaxing that sitting in your tent next to water.
❤️❤️❤️
You are such a lovely couole. The way you interact with each other is so resoectful, kind and loving. Love from NZ x
Thank you so much, that means the world 🥰❤️
Wow, what an adventure! 5 days living off grid on a kayak in the Swedish wilderness sounds both amazing and intense. The St Anna and Gryt Archipelago looks absolutley beautiful, and it must have been such an incredible experience camping on those remote islands. Thanks for sharing your journey, definetly makes me wanna go on a similar trip some day!
I love how you really show us places : from food, landscape, culture and lovely interesting information! Plus you're a fantastic couple who clearly love and respect each other and everyone you meet!
Thank you so much for your kind words, they really mean the world to us! And thank you so much for coming along with us ❤️
Oh wow Matt and Julia! This was amazing! So much you could carry on that one kayak. WOW! I wish I could do that. What an adventure! Thank you for taking us along with you all. See you on the next adventure!
Thank you so much for coming along with us, really appreciate it! Can't wait to share what's to come ❤️
It just warms my heart watching your videos. You seem so happy together. Hope you had a nice time in my home country ♥
Thank you so much for your kind words, they truly mean the world to us ❤️
We can't wait to be back to your beautiful country, hopefully in the winter next time 🤗
Sweden reminds me so much of Ontario Canada in the Canadian Shield. It’s so very beautiful in both places.
We would love to visit Canada, something tells me we would adore the nature there. I know for sure that the climate will be right up our street 😁
@@MattandJulia let me know when your coming.
We will be happy to have you.
If you want to get away from it all. Sweden's inlets and islands are so beautiful. A wonderful choice guys. Thank you for the lovely tour . Sending you much love❤❤ from Richmond, Va.
Harriet, Jim and Yuki
Thank you very much guys, really appreciate it! Sending lots of love from both of us ❤️
"best thing we've ever done"
And... then I check the list of videos. A little bit proud of Sweden right now ☺
What another wonderful adventure. Hard to believe you had that much gear in one kayak! Camping chairs? Or was I dreaming? Scandinavia is so so beautiful. Thanks for sharing this beautiful kayak trip Matt and Julia. Intrepid travelers as always! You make my heart sing with the beauty, peace, calm... merci.
What a great trip! It appears you found the right balance of adventure and relative comfort. You were well prepared for the rain . It could have been quite miserable otherwise.
Thank you very much! Yeah, you couldn't be more right, it could've been pretty miserable if we were not prepared for the rain !
Such a different adventure. Thanks for taking us along. ❤❤
Thank you so much for coming along with us, so happy to hear you enjoyed it 🤗
Living your best life! Thank you for sharing 🛶 ❤
Thank you for coming along with us ❤️
Ahhh I'm so happy to see you in Sweden! It's been a dream of mine to go there for years. Excited to watch your adventures! 💙
Us too! It’s been so beautiful so far, highly recommend it 😍🥰❤️
Really nice to share your trip and meet you during your trip in the archipelago. I sail a lot in the Stockholm archipelago with a long and narrow boat that can go high into the wind and easily slide between the islands. However, there are as many rocks as islands and no tide that can lift the boat off the ground.
Realy Great film! Allemansrätten in sweden is a bless!
What a fantastic adventure! I missed you last week! I hope all is well with you two. Julia's laughter is always contagious. Love from Buenos Aires!
Thank you so much you kind soul.
It's been a lot to be honest. Steve is coming back home tomorrow and we are leaving on the 28th. I will post an update in a couple of days.
Sending lots of love from both of us ❤️
Jag älskar Sverige!!
Great to see you both in my favourite country ! ❤
In nature !! 😊
I've been obsessed with Sweden for so many years! I can't begin to tell you how exited I was to see everything there. Definately won't be our last time. The nature and the climate is just perfect for us both...wish it was a little bit cheaper though, so we could afford to live there...haha
@@MattandJulia totally agree ! In regard to the climate I’m the same . When it’s hot you just sweat all day!
Sweden 🇸🇪 is perfect for a fresh climate .
Best thing about Sweden by far: "Allemansrätten". You can be everywhere in nature and have such freedom. Both in the archipelago and in the northern mountains, just being in nature for days without meeting any people is such a good life! I miss it when I live in Italy now but a lot of other things are better there. Where you in Stockholm too? I think you maybe did some shopping by me in a big food market outside the city.
I can't begin to tell you how happy I am that we went to Sweden, won't be our last time for sure! We spend few days in Stockholm, just catching up with work, didn't film anything. We stayed out of the city centre (only went there a couple of times for a walk) and loved the city! Way more than we expected, there is just something about it, beautiful vibe!
Wow you look so relaxed after 5 days kayaking. 😊😊 beautiful scenery
Cool! Such a wonderful adventure! Just you and nature, on your own! It was so relaxing to watch! Thanks!
Thank you so much, really glad to hear you enjoyed our video ❤️
Thanks Matt and Julia, what a wonderful trip, beautiful scenery, soothing music, gourmet cooking, what more can one ask for? Thanks so much for sharing with us.
Thank you so much Eddy, so glad you enjoyed it 🥰❤️
What an incredible experience. So beautiful!
Matt and Julia ! Thank you very much!
Thank you so much for coming along with us ❤️
We just got back from a kayaking trip & this place looks wonderful. Enjoy!
Hope you had an amazing time! ❤️
just about 16min in, but it's one of the best, coziest and interesting videos or let's say vlog-ish footage ever (imo!). it reminds me of our kajak/kanu-tours in Sweden and why they're still very up high in my alltime list of fav vacations. Its just the perfect mix of being for yourself / with your fav people, landscape and sport. And, for a northern Germany based guy, relatively easy to get to.
Thx Julia & Matt for a beautiful reminder... and that i really have to go there very, very soon or at least put my body into a kajak :D
Thank you so much for your lovely message and kind words. They truly mean the world to us! So happy you enjoyed our video, it was such a unique experience, we are so happy to share it ❤️
Can't wait for you to go there!
Stunning scenery and a fabulous video. ❤

Always great to see that northern blue sky!
Good video ,thank you and it`s amazing how much stuff you can fit in a kayak and you cook decent gourmet meals ;)
Thank you so much, so glad to hear you enjoyed the video 🤗
Hello.Subscriber here from Maine USA.For me,this was one of your most impactful videos, just beautiful. Not to mention the closeness between the two of you Last but not least I was surprised at how much this area reminded me of where I live in Mid coastal Maine,a stones throw from the ocean.Thx so much for taking me on this trip❤
Most fun video in long time. You should do more adventures. We are already looking to do this tour. 😊
You will absolutely love it! 😍🙌🏼
Such an interesting and stunning trip! It reminded me of the time when my husband and I together with his parents had picnics on such rocky islands in Finland. The nature is the same, water and trees around, so quiet and calm… Thank you so much, it was a real pleasure watching this video❤Даешь больше таких увлекательных видео!😁
Спасибо большое, мы очень рады, что вам понравилось наше видео 🤗
kay, I’ve always scratched my head about the obsession around the kislux book totes and their practicality, but this one is adorable!! Congratulations
Absolutely amazing. Truly unique. I love travelling with both of you while sitting at home. Looking forward to our next adventure.
This makes me want to go tenting! And I usually HATE sleeping in a tent so that's a huge compliment for you guys :D
So good to see your happy face Julia !❤ Sweden is one of my favorite countries. keep her safe Matt. Just joking. Good to see you both of course. You set a challenge for yourselves, a kayak, all that cold water, the wind and camping for 5 days ! What an interesting set up though with all that food provided for you ! It is beautiful ! The views. The sky !
Haha, thank you so much, so sweet of you to say that! You wait till you see the next 3 videos, I was in my element during this adventure 😁
That was such a unique experience, so grateful we did it and that we can share it. Hopefully people will see that such things exist and can do it themselves ❤️
This looks incredible! Exactly the type of adventure my husband and I would go for. Not too extreme, but with enough variables to make it interesting ;)
It was such an unusual and unique experience, so happy to hear you enjoyed watching our video 🤗
couldn't recommend it enough!
Thank you for bringing us along with you on this adventure!
Thank you so much for coming along with us ❤️
Thats so cool, this is where I live. I've spent many summers out in gryt archipelago.
Wow, so wonderful! It's so amazing to be outdoors in this beautiful nature.
Cool you’re finally in Sweden! I would recommend the eastern archipelago outside of Stockholm for that type of experience. You won’t regret it. Sweden has a lot of diversity, glad you seem to enjoy it!
Welcome Matt and Julia to my birth country! You will have a great time I’m sure.
You should go up north too…
❤ from Far North Queensland, Australia 🇦🇺
Finally has some time to watch this episode in full. I’m very happy that you had a great time. ❤
What a beautiful adventure. You brought back many memories I have of canoeing through the Canadian wilderness. I paddled thousands of kilometers and enjoyed the spectacular beauty of Canada. I would strongly suggest that you consider joining a group expedition with professional guides on your next trip. You will learn a lot from experienced pros … like how to setup a rain tarp 😂. Plus, the camaraderie that comes from a small group is a great experience.
thank u relaxing just to watch it .... and no paddling 🙃😉
Amazing trip! You rock!!!
Thank you so much 🤗
Ooo I’ve never seen travel videos in this part of Sweden before, looks gorgeous!
Really a nice video! Stunning scenery and adventure! Thank you for sharing 💕🍀🪻
Thank you so much for coming along with us, really appreciate it ❤️
Look at the teamwork with the kayak ❤️
Thank you for sharing your wonderful adventure ❤
Enjoyed the video. It was a nice change to the other ones.
It all looked wonderful! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much, really happy to hear that you enjoyed watching our video and coming along with us ❤️
What an amazing trip! And, I loved the TARDIS reference!
Really glad to hear you enjoyed it, thank you!
Nice to see my favorite youtubers visiting my home country 🙂
Thank you so much, so sweet of you 🤗 we can't wait to be back to your beautiful country!
I was wondering when you were coming up here to the North 😊I hope you enjoyed Sweden❤️
if you are going on more adventures like this, I suggest a collapsible solar panel with a built-in battery so you can charge your stuff. just tie it to the kayak or whatever means of transport you have
Oh that's a great idea! Thank you so much for your recommendation, really appreciate it! 🤗
If you like Sweden and kayaking/canoeing, you ought to try canoeing in the Rogen nature reserve. It's essentially as wild as you can get, with just a little bit of civilisation thrown in: here and there there are things like loos, or huts to stay in.
That’s unique having the food delivered and picked out like that. I have never heard of something like that before.
Us too! We were so shocked when we saw all the equipment and everything we were given to take with us. It was such a unique experience!
Julia you r so relatable ..My big camping adventure will happen here where I live for 10 days and I simply can't wait..It'll b fall and our colors ,oh my Julia you would love ..❤❤❤
Thank you so much 🥰
Oh wow! So beautiful, autumn is the most gorgeous season 🍁😍❤️
Beautiful! Thank you !
Thank you very much ❤️
16:25- part where it shows day 3 with the drone footage looks cool.

Wow, best trip since Kilimanjaro, you guys rock!
Thank you so much, it was definitely a very unique experience!

That’s cool that they have a refrigerator and all the tools. 34:05 mark
It's incredible how well thought through everything is!
What a neat adventure! Thank you for taking us along. I can't wait to see where you take us next!
🇸🇪🛶🇸🇪🛶🇸🇪
P.S. It was quite amusing to watch Matt sit back and chat while Julia paddled!
🤗🤗🤗
Thank you very much for coming along with us 🤗
I really didn't need to paddle...I was doing it on purpose haha
Stunning gorgeous
So fun you visit Sweden, welcome back.
Thank you so much! Can't wait to be back to be honest, hopefully in the winter next time 🤗

Brilliant episode - very tranquil I hope you both had a good time :) mwhhaaa x
Welcome to my home country, hope your stay will be great here 🙂🇸🇪
Thank you so much! We love it! 🙌🏼😍❤️
@@MattandJulia I am living myself in Kristinehamn which is beside one of the largest archipelagos in Sweden, the big lake Vänern with over 22000 islands, of these are 500 bigger islands, the rest very small islands. Not myself often on the water but a lot of people around here have boats.
great video, really good. thanks from sweden
Nice vid! And yes, drinking tapwater is safe in Sweden.
Welcome to Sweden
Thank you so much!
Wow this suits you both. What a great adventure. Congratulations🎉
So glad you enjoyed it! ❤️🙏🏼

Fantastic video. I have never seen this part of Sweden.
VERY ambitious cooking for survival 😊
Thank you so much 🤗
Incredible journey with stunning scenery! Glad you both had a jolly good time :) XOXO
Really glad we could share it with you ❤️🙏🏼
I lived there for many years. Going to a cabin on an island in Gryt archipelago in a couple of weeks. I actually lived in Gryt for 6 years with my horse and dog. Next time let me know. I can catch up somewhere to show you around. I live in Norrköping now (you must have passed the city on your way there). I love this kind of simple life. There are some treasures around, like renting a sauna for very little money etcetera etcetera. And I have been paddling kayak in those water, but only once, a "full moon ride". Ps. shot some food videos there in a thunderstorm.
Have and amazing time in the cabin 🤗
Thank you so much for your lovely message! I agree with you, I love this kind of simple life too ❤️
Welcome..
Thank you so much ❤️
Truly resenting my life choices
Hopefully not from watching this video...
@@MattandJulia yes from the video. Worked in nursing getting rare time off which was continuing ed or housework, raised kids as single parent pinching every penny. Had very little joy in nature time, even less that relaxed fully. Now 67, dealing with myasthenia gravis and those things are not possible, just alive
That cottage on the water looks like a Stephen King book, some place in Maine.
Literally does! 😮
You should come to Scotland kayak fishing with us ❤
Are you seriously inviting us or just being polite? Because we will come. We adore Scotland and I can't begin to tell you how much I love fishing! I don't have a great deal of experience but would love nothing more than to learn from someone!
@@MattandJulia I am not sure If I am going to invite you but I truly enjoy your travel around the world , and as a kayak fisher in Scotland I do rock !
I am head over heels - you are (were) in Sweden, and even in close vicinity of mine. Must look into the whole video, later frends!
Are you from Sweden?! I've been obsessed with your country for so many years! Can't begin to tell you how happy I was to be there, can't wait to come back! Hopefully in the winter next time 🤗
Hope you will enjoy this video 🤗
@@MattandJulia I forgive you for your obsession :-) I loved the video from start to end. Have kayaked a little but never really camping, but you hit it well; they are awesome loaders to bring not just instant coffee etc, they even behave better when they sit lower as loaded (especially singles). And Saint Anna instead of the obvious Stockholm archipelago was smart since you could find many more free spots. I bet Åland (independent part of Finland, swedish speaking mainly) have indeed a just as rich archipelago, better double check. Moreover, your views from all over the world really thrills me, deep dives in Russia (gosh I really want in a far future travel along Transsiberian, when I can feel safe about it), and have indeed looked deep into your offers for Balkan expeditions on your homepage too. So yeah, I am a big fan of your works, Julia and Matt! And your language skills!
Very nice❤❤❤❤im from iran❤❤❤
Thank you so much! 🙌🏼❤️
Love to Iran 🇮🇷😘
I'm so envious of you two. The most I did was in a canoe with a portage (not fun) & camp overnight. This area is gorgeous. How long is that kayak?
Really glad you enjoyed the video 🤗 I think...(don't quote me on it though), it's about 4 metres (13 feet )
@@MattandJulia It's amazing that you are able to pack so many things into such a short space. You guys really know how to do a holiday!⛺
"Bannock" is easier bread to make for camping. It is from North American and can be cooked many different ways. Made as "fry bread" it is decadent.
Thank you so much, I will make a note of that for the next time!
Your trip looked amazing. Would you please share the name of the cooking stove that you used? Thank you.❤️
Thank you very much, really glad to hear your enjoyed it! I just googled it and I think it's called "Trangia" 🤗
Sweden has the biggest number of islands of all the countries in the World!
Yeah, so unexpected right! Well it was for us when we found out few years back 😁
great video
Thank you ❤️
Seems like a very nice adventure, even though I wouldn't call this wilderness.
Beutifull 👍🏻
