SPF is calculated from this formula: SPF= MED with sunscreen/MED without sunscreen. MED is the minimal erythema dose --- or the minimal amount it takes to get a sunburn
This is awesome! You did a killer job of breaking down the meaning behind the multiplier and application requirements. You also seem to have caught on to why we keep shot glasses around the lab. . .
I would have never thought eyelids, I've been really trying to force myself into the habit of wearing sunglasses at least even in the winter cause of snow glare/blindness. I defiantly don't wear enough, but I do try to cover my skin. I think that is why people always think guys who have beards have baby faces when they finally shave as they've been protected from UV light for so long, tis my beard hypothesis lol.
🤣 I love you your hypothesis ❤️❤️❤️Yes, some areas are so easy to forget. One of the things this video made me aware of is how easy it is to get less than the labeled SPF🧴 We’re all trying though! It takes time to develop a good sun protection strategy!
I used to hate those thick, hard to spread sunscreens. These days, I'm thankful for it on my body. If my organic sunscreen is giving me a white cast, I think I'm on track lol. The amount that's needed means a large bottle has to be affordable.
Pam Millie yes! I was the same way as a kid! Hated the way it felt on my skin. Now that I’m old and practical 🤣 I look at sunscreen much more favorably. I’ve been doing a lot of research and it’s amazing to see how much sunscreen has progressed and also, how there is still A LOT of room for improvement. Heck, think back to when broad spectrum wasn’t even a thing. It wasn’t that long ago!
@@Msbeautyphile It really hasn't been that long ago. I remember tanning oils on the shelves. I hope some major changes that push for more reliable protection happen soon.
Sunscreen 🧴 deserves its own layer ❤️ Remember that sunscreen needs to be put on 2mg per cm2 of skin. If you have sunscreen in a moisturizing lotion it’s combined with other ingredients so you won’t get sunscreen in an amount that provides much coverage for skin.
wholegrainvideos It’s a valid point. If you’re at the beach, you’re probably going to go through a three ounce bottle in six hours if you’re applying it correctly. If you have a family, it adds up really fast. There are economical sunscreen options, but no doubt it still costs.
Hi Everyone! Great to see you here! If you got a chance to watch the video, say hello or feel free to ask a question! If you want to calculate your own BSA (Body Surface Area), the formula is here: www.medcalc.com/body.html I'm going to get back to releasing weekly. I hope to see more of you!
@@Msbeautyphile Yes it's the new thing! Except, I love a specific gorgeous species of Latina woman that applies her sunscreen correctly. I can't believe she saw this comment. lol. She doesn't miss a thing. Now only if i can get her to divorce her work for a bit. :D

Thanks for the thumbs up! Hope my video explanation of SPF was clear but wanted to provide the formula so you recognize the maths!

I recorded the iPhone alarm in my video and every time the video plays, I absentmindedly hit the phone to “shut off my alarm” ☺️

Hey Trina! I have a related question: moisturizes that include sunscreen...are they effective or a waste of time/money?

Hey, thank you so much for the video!! Can you, please, tell how tot apply it in terms of contact with water? Is it waterproof?
Nice informative video ! I know we all forget the eyelids !!!
We all forget things at times! For me, it's the ears that I have to remember!
Expensive to protect against the sun

I just fell in love.
Men who love women who apply sunscreen correctly. You've just made it a thing.
