  • Performed April 23, 2017 for the Las Vegas Baroque Festival held at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Brandenburg 2 is a monumental work for trumpeters. This performance was especially difficult. I didn't know it at the time but I was in acute heart failure. I'd been experiencing increasing light headedness and chest pain when practicing but thought everyone probably experienced that while playing the Brandenburg. I mean, who doesn't have occasional dizziness on the little beast we call piccolo trumpet? Now, over five years later, I've recovered and finally acquired the necessary nerve to listen to the recording. Could I have played this work better? Yes, and I had. However, this performance now represents God's faithfulness and it's become my Ebenezer. I had to take ten weeks off of all trumpet playing during my recovery and had no idea whether I'd ever play again let alone return to full-time work.
Recorded at Dr. Arturo Rando-Grillot Hall, UNLV

Wow - so glad you're well now! And frankly, it's a pretty darn good Brandenburg!
