I never understood why they didn't have his mask off in this scene. Raoul is literally insulting him that he looks 'hideous and horrible'. In the original London cast, the mask is off in this scene. The lyrics make more sense and I think it has more impact, as the Phantom is much more confident and cocky, despite his face, which shows some character growth. With the mask on, he still looks conventionally good.

@@MaCabaret, go back and listen to POTO. Raul keeps telling Christine that the phantom doesn't really exist, it's all in her head etc through the entire 1st act, even when the frigging chandelier falls. He does it again during Masquerade. It's not until Erik is lobbing fireballs at him in the cemetery that he gets it. And then what does your hero do? He offers the women he loves as BAIT. In LND, he drinks, ignores his child, pouts and spouts around, and then makes a bet with Erick to clear his debts. So your hero actually doesn't change all that much in LND does he?
@@chrishallings8616 finally someone who gets it! Raoul was worse than Erik! Erik had it right when he called Raoul an insolent child. That's exactly what he was. And he never changed. His attitude toward Christine is selfish and patronizing. Hadley Frasers Raoul captured his attitude perfectly. He thought she was crazy, so in the end he didn't love her. She was just a prize to be had and his love for her was shallow. Erik wasn't much better but he learned and he did love her through and through. He saw through Raoul from the start. Sure he could have handled it better (lol) but he came through in the end.
I loved Erik and Raoul in this whole film! I watched it in full and Meg Giry was also amazing. So good was the whole production that it eased me through the lacking performance of Christine. Only my opinion.
BTW guys, this is loosely based on The Phantom of Manhattan, a book from some dude idk. It was written in 1999, and its pretty dope. ALW got the idea from that book, and while it doesn't follow everything, the main plot is def in there. Y'all should give it a read if you enjoyed (or didn't) like this play.
I'm not trying to justify the phantom here. (Although this will seem like it.) From what I have observed from this and POTO is the arguments of people who side with phantom and raoul are both kind of right. Phantom: Yes, he was obsessive and controlling of Christine and wanted her all to himself. But if circumstances had been better for his face I doubt that any of the the events of both shows would happen. It's brought up in phantom that people treated Erik like crap because of his disfigurement, which obviously leads to how Erik is now. If you treat someone like a monster because they look like a monster, then that person will probably become a monster if nobody is there to show him compassion. This is proven in the end of phantom when erik realizes what an asshole he was after christine kisses him. I'm sure that Erik did truly love Christine but his methods weren't the right way due to his past experiences. Also one of the many actors who played him compared him to someone with asperger's which makes probably a little too much sense. In LND it shows that Erik has matured probably due to being around more people if he does have aspergers I don't know much about that so I could be wrong. As for Gustav I'm pretty sure that during Phantom a couple of times Christine wanted Erik physically, like real physically, I would not be surprised if she let him fuck her around the time Gustav would have been conceived. Raoul: I admit that he was a better choice between him and Erik, but he was a bit of an ass. He never believed christine until he saw Erik with his own eyes and also in all the versions of him in phantom he came off as an entitled, rich kid. Yes he did love Christine just as much as Erik but she chose him because he wasn't manipulative like Erik, but he did try to change Christine into what he wanted not alot but a little. In love never dies it makes you think that raoul might have been a little arrogant with his wealth, more arrogant than what we saw in phantom and maybe after the ordeal in phantom it left a considerable impression on him. Or maybe it was just coincidence that Raul became an asshole. That's just how I see it.

@@milkaaguilera7704 I love Phantom but this looks terrible
Officially yes but we all know it’s just poorly written fan fiction.
Lots of consonants going on in here. Just in case anyone wondered if this was musical theatre, have some consonants. Did you want another hard-hit consonant?
Does he have a cannula in his forehead? ;o
That's the Microphone
Raoul, pick the chair up.
It hurts my soul to say this but Bella Swan had more agency than Christine in this musical.
This version is good but I think I prefer Ramins version where he had no mask on.
Nope sorry :D
So Christine totally should have just ditched everybody at the end of the play. Raoul sucks, phantom sucks. She was used as a pawn so she should just take her son and leave, maybe with Meg.
Umm Raoul.. PUCK UP THAT CHAIR
Tbh I never liked raoul even from the 2004 movie. He always seemed annoying to me lol.
They should just kiss tbh
You know I think I saw porn- I-I mean does Christine know about this?
Are they gonna kiss or not?
Man this play sucks but this song is so fun to listen to
0:25 why is the phantom standing so awkward and stiff
I was about to give him the beatting of a life time but i was stopped at the last moment by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber.😡
