I think it's so clever they scripted Meg to say "To happy ends" because in the end she ends up being the cause of the unhappiness, killing Christine. Very clever, the overall plot was decent but the music and scripting is amazing.
I mean I love the music and set I found it creative and fun. But when I watch the Phantom of the Opera and then this I just see all the things that the writer overlooked from the original story to make this narrative and some things just make no sense because of it. Also I didn’t like every song. Under Moonlight Sky was cringey for me as all I could think of was that the two were basically reminiscing about that one time they had sex in the dark which led to Christine conceiving a child. What I didn’t like about it was that this musical claimed that the phantom leaving Christine when she woke up was why she chose Raoul over him and why the main conflict of the original story occurred which if anything painted Raoul in a bad light which I guess made sense for the drunken idiot we get in this one that is nothing like Raoul from the original story.
is no one gonna address the fact that Madam Giry was a mother figure to Christine because she raised her with the ballet girls after her father died, so the reason meg and Christine were so close is because they were basically sisters, but in LND Madam Giry turns her back on her adopted daughter because her biological daughter did not get the fame Christine did, despite how she protected and loved both Meg and Christine equally in POTO. If that isn't one of the worst things in this show, then i don't know what is
StarlightGlimGlam I think Christine just recently lost his father in the musical (three years ago). I think Giry didn’t really raised her in that version.
@@beneddiected I think that her father died around when she's preteen (yeah the "three long years" lyric is not in use right now), then Mamma Valerius adopted her (even if she's not in the musical doesn't mean she's not exist.)
To be fair it was Christine who persuade Raoul to go to American to sing for Phantasma to help him with his debt he didn't want to come to American at all

I know Raoul was essentially transformed into a complete jerk in this musical but I honestly think he has a right to be angry here. His wife is knowingly working with a man who tried to hang him. And the reason the Phantom did that in the first place was because he was trying to blackmail her...
@@Bitchita47 I agree that this situation wasn't her fault! She did, however, cheat on her fiance with someone who tried to kill him which was questionable. She ended up choosing that same person, when he was willing to threaten her child just a few days before. This musical was very frustrating to watch!
@@bettinalee5342 Well, you are right... It wasn´t a smart decision at the end. But at least the music is BEAUTIFUL in this show! It compensates it all!
@@Niqhtmusic The people who are so quick to jump on Raoul for being abusive in this musical are also the ones defending the phantom for literal murder, stalking, and blackmail because of his traumatic past. Have they not considered that Raoul is now also traumatized because of what the phantom did to him? Not only that, his wife clearly has feelings for the man who tried to kill him. I don't think trauma actually excuses either of their actions but it's absurd how uneven the scrutiny is.
I never understood why Christine just didn’t marry anyone. They both treated her like a prize rather then a person. Also, the last family gathering I went to I straight up said, “I don’t want to be here. I don’t miss any of you.” That usually made everyone ignore me.
I’m no critic, but in all honesty this show’s music is great, it fits the setting of a carnival, freak-show esque theme very well. The only problem, and a deadly one is the plot and characters’ depth. Phantom was a mysterious, powerful, controlling person, but LND threw all that out of the window. I don’t believe someone could change that radically, especially when some of phantom’s behaviour are instinctual. Not to mention, the conflicts and tensions in LND are shallow in comparison to POTO. The only highlight I would say is the development of Meg’s character. All in all, there’s a reason why musicals adapted from novels tend to do have a greater depth. The complexity of a character’s inner turmoil, background, experience and how that translates into their behaviour, not everyone can capture these nuances. Leave story writing to the professionals the next time.
I like to watch this musical just for the trash fire that it is, which is unironically entertaining. I just have to separate it from POTO, cause the songs are really good tbh.
Red Ginger maybe, but this is before Phantom even gives him the idea, and he sounds very surprised in devil take the hindmost. It could be from the trauma ten years ago of him being hung in front of his lover being forced to watch them kiss.
