ABOUT UPROXX INDIE MIXTAPE:
Indie Mixtape is the go-to for all things indie music. We serve as a funnel to make sure that only the best music -- new and old -- is delivered directly to the people who care the most.
Indie is more than a music genre. It's a sensibility. The indie fan may be overlooked in our current cultural climate, but they're alive and well -- going to see live music, visiting art galleries, and prioritizing substance over facade. This is for you.
The music video was filmed on 8 September 1998,[23] after Faith No More had disbanded five months earlier and featured none of the band members. (Some fans claim that Mike Patton is the singer just leaving the stage as the video is beginning.) It was directed by Vito Rocco, filmed by Nick Sawyer with make-up by Julie Nightingale and Dani Richardson with Gabi Norland as the clapper loader. British actors Martin Freeman and Shaun Dingwall both feature in the promo, along with performance artist David Hoyle as the karaoke singer, and also stars Michelle Butterly of the ITV series, Benidorm. Derren Litten, the writer of Benidorm and a contributor to The Catherine Tate Show, is also seen in the video.

It is so crazy that this is the same vocalist as 'Epic'. The versatility of Mike's voice is just beyond.
It's actually the guy in the video singing. His name is David Hoyle.
@@yargalarg4909 of course 😆
@yargalarg4909 No, it is Patton. Videos are just videos.
The actor covering song is so good that seems he is the singer. Can't imagine/see Mike Patton.
For some reason this cover and video together make one of the most captivating performances I have seen.
Right?! I have to watch it every so often in complete wonder.
Is awesome all around.
Me too .. I never get tired of it. Nostalgic.
One of the best music videos I've ever seen. Mike Patton is an amazing vocalist.
Agreed. The song has some deeper meaning. I do not know if they meant it that way, but it does. Anyway...
The vocal style perfectly matches the actor.
Mike Patton is a sonorous force of nature. His range's absolutely ridiculous.
He can do anything. Quite possibly my favorite singer.
Fucking agreed
Bruh, he convinced me that he wasn't even singing the song. Wtf can't he do?
❤❤❤❤
Todos os dias eu tenho que escutar essa música nessa versão
I'm an old rocker, and I came across this and I thought it was going to be a joke! It wasn't, it made the hair stand up on my arms, great job!
Mike patton has an amazing range to his voice, massively underrated singer
i don't know HOW i never heard more of their stuff when it was new. i mean, i was born in 84 so i wasn't very old for a lot, or even born for some. but i loved everything that got airplay when i was little, and only ever heard those few of their songs til recently. the whole band is under-rated, especially mike. and some of the best bass lines ever. nu metal might've never existed, ahead of their time for sure.
i'm pretty sure Mike Patton is widely considered one of the greatest rock 'n' roll singers of all time I don't think he's underrated at at all.
@@jonasdownerI have to agree that he's underrated.
That is not Mike Patton. It is David Hoyle.
@@tedlanz5038he’s lip-syncing to Patton’s vocals - do you really think it’s Hoyle singing?
Patton is one of the most versatile singers ever.
This man is obviously turning in one of the greatest performances of all time, but can we take a moment to acknowledge the absolute madman on bass?
u can't do not but respect this song i get goosebumps every singel time i listen 2 faith no more love u all god bless love John.
Divine David is a fucking treasure.
Is that meant to be Patton @0:16 ?
@@WorldCupWillie There is no band member in the video, because "Faith No More" disbanded 5 months earlier.
The video was produced by the record company as a promotion for "Who Care's A Lot" - the greatest hits album. Karaoke vocalist was played by David Hoyle (known as Divine David).

This song is not long enough, I doubt it could ever be. Every time I listen I never want it to end.
Kinda like running up the hill. Bippity
ABSOLUTELY 💯 💯 💯 💯 💯 💯 💯
The brilliance of this video goes beyond the song itself - the sheer range of emotion that the characters experience, the initial ridicule from the men at the table turning to desperate pleas for attention from the women they're with in the face of this man's sensitivity and honesty - it has such a righteous feel to it. 3 minutes of chaotic human experience. Incredible. Respect to the Bee Gees for the original, and whomever directed this video for FNM!
Exactly. Makes me shiver just watching. Amazing video!
It is said to be directed by Vito Rocco, filmed by Nick Sawyer. I totally agree with your comment, it's fascinating.
i think the band, singer and video are all on the same high level personally but yeah..best video.. ever!
Sublime.
They seem embarrased to admit to like The Bee Gees
This is my favorite Bee Gees song...Faith No More does a very good job with it and this video is perfect for it.
I like melody fair from bee gees and Edison song
FNM did another good cover after "Easy".
I'm 58 and I definitely know now, there are great songs out there that I have not heard yet, Thank you UA-cam.
When ever people say "whos got the best voice in rock history?", i don't hear Mike Patton's name enough... shame
According to "VNN's Music''s article of 2014, you can say: whose got the best voice in rock AND POP history? ^^
You call this rock? This is garbage!
Mathew Freymiller cuz he’s pop boi!
@@regulardadhere8832 ??? BBBWAHAHAHAHAHA... WAT.
Sebastian Nuñez i knew this was a BeeGee’s cover guess the smart guy over me doesn’t. Mike has the best voice period.
I like how Patton doesn't over sing the classics, he keeps it true to the original and doesn't trash it. Other great covers, Easy, Spanish Eyes, This Guy is in Love with You. Great vocalist.
you forgot Ashes to Ashe from David Bowie...ill admit though...i prefer Faith No More's version better....

The sheer amount of acting talent in this video is insane! Some real, British heavyweights here!
This is one of my fav BeeGees songs. Pre-disco. So good. And this cover is excellent.
Mike Patton has the kind of range that would make the gods envious.
+jerzy rich nice Are you by any chance a short person, or an angry drunk? Or do you just have an inferiority complex?
It's great that you like music. I couldn't imagine how that time could've been spent better than learning music at your level. Definitely not on learning how to write and utilize the English language at a level above a 12 year old girl.
Congratulations on feeling the need to prove yourself on the level you did in your novella here. However the point I was making has been missed on your rage. Kanye is a hack. To say he is any better than most is a matter of perspective in a modern era where hip hop has fallen into its final breaths. His gimmick is stale and his rhymes are like an inside joke that only a few would understand.
I have tried so much to bridge the gap of what is force fed by execs at record labels, and what is actual talent But when it comes to Kanye, it seems he surrounds himself with people that won't be honest with him. I mean the guy sells blouses for men, and has a clothing line that looks like he stole if from an old white hobo on a train. Then he talks about being a god, and the greatest of all time. He is delusional on so many levels, and it's scary that he is having such a powerful example on modern day youth of all races. He is simply lacking in talent on everything he has done since he got big. Now he is just a tool in more ways than one. Old Dirty would have spit shit so hard at him that MLK would come back as a ghost just to look at Kanye and shake his head.
So if you want to believe his artificial hype, then by all means. I however look at things in an unbiased way and am astonished that he and his hot dog chewing wife have made it this far. But that's how it works these days when the ability to think for yourself has been sucked out of the minds of the fans. They simply like who they are told to.
Good luck on your endeavors, and may you be blessed enough to one day see that he, as well as so many other mainstream "artists" are nothing more than talentless hacks.
Undisputed 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
He IS God
The Gods weren't envious they were 'DOH!!!! I DID IT AGAIN DIGGIN''...A...GRAVEEE'
Oh but you forgot the master of range:
Freddie Mercury!
Now THAT IS RANGE!
The guy on stage is played by David Hoyle, who's better known as the performance artist Divine David, and he would have made a fucking brilliant Joker.
wait so he is not singing?
+Fizzy Miki nooooo. first no one sings in music videos and if they do it's dubbed over. they lip synch to their albums. this is no one from faith no more. he is not singing
+mooglebuddy yea first time seeing the video made that comment when it was running scrolled up. he's not even totally in synch. you can't imagine he's singing when words or sounds come out of his mouth at different times
Even if he was singing, he wouldn't be totally in synch anyway. They always dub music videos anyway since it's got to be the single version and you can't get clean sound while shooting anyway.
+Derek Smallshorts he comes off like a new age david bowie
Personally, I think this is one of the great music video performances
I am just so disappointed that I can only like this once.
I just found this cover and cried listening.
Thank you.
Mike patton said in a interview that the band heard this song in a bar and then immediately decided to cover this song as they were amused by the sappy lyrics of the song.

I started a joke
Which started the whole world crying
Oh but I didn't see

And I started to cry
Which started the whole world laughing
Oh if I'd only seen

Running my hands

And I fell out of bed
Cursing my head
For things that I've said
Till I finally died
Which started the whole world living

Running my hands
Over my eyes
And I fell out of bed
Cursing my head
For things that I've said

That the joke was on me......... Me.........
Patton's range is insane. Damn.
I love this more than mere words can express.
An excellent interpretation of the Bee Gees' classic! It is a master tribute to the legacy of the Gibb brothers (R.I.P. Robin and Maurice).
Honestly, with Patton, you don't know what you are getting with each song. He can take on Heavy Metal, Funk, Soul, Pop, Opera...it doesn't matter, he's got you covered!
Some people have the voice of success, Barry Gibb does, Mike does too, it is rare.
In a way, if you look at Patton's work with FNM and Bungle, he didn't mind facing backlash and going against the conventions of a genre he was considered a part of.
Just like the Bee Gees took the chance and decided they were ready to reinvent themselves (experimenting with different sounds like Soul and Disco) after their earlier work, regardless of how it was bound to alienate their fanbase, Patton followed his magnificent debut as the singer for FNM (The Real Thing) with a completely odd and highly experimental album...Angel Dust. One of the most memorable Rock albums of all time. Were the stereotypical Metal fans ready for it? Not at all, but they surrendered after listening to that BOMB of a record.
This is why these people will be a part of our culture for times to come. True innovators.
Faith No More can't be categorized. I love that!
He amazes me. It's like he's saying "No, see, FNM is on PURPOSE, I could sing any way I wanted."
Awe inspiring.
I remember being a flamboyant teenager and having mixed feelings about the singer doing Mike’s voice because I didn’t come to terms with being effeminate myself yet. Today I watch him with tenderness and admiration. And the song is amazing.
Watching this to support mike with what his experiencing. Hopehe could overcome the trials . its part of life. Im one of his fan started listening to him during College days .
That last note sung by Patton gives me chills every single time. Unreal, unreal, unreal.
The guy in the video (David hoyle) is actually singing it
Did anyone else cry
Came here to check out some of Faith no more song after listening to Epic, and totally didnt expect the band to sing this slow pace genre. Beautiful how this person can sing in almost every voice.
Same boat here, I saw the title and thought I remember this song!” Literally after streaming Epic few times and checked out FNM’s discography

A fine runner up to Robin (and my all time favorite Bee Gees song, or any song PERIOD). What a find. Never knew he did this
This is a bloody awesome version! Robin and Maurice would approve.
David Hoyle is absolutely brilliant!!! Couldn't have picked a better person for the role, really!
My new favorite song
It's like the personalities of every character in this video is delivered in full without a single word of dialogue.
I didn't even know they covered this. It's always been one of my favorite Bee Gees songs. And the video. That's a piece of art man.
You know, a song written about 50 years ago and being covered again has got to be a great song written by a great band. THE BEE GEES. Any band or singer covering that said song, knows a good song when he hears it and is awesome enough to pay tribute! Thank you!
Bilbo kills it in this video!
Rose Tyler's dad does his bit too.
Everytime I want to start breaking down, I listen to this song. Mike, thank you for helping.

cover artists can more or less reproduce the key and pitch of the original song but they can never duplicate the one thing that made the Bee Gees version unique, which was the raw pleading emotion in Robin's angelic voice whenever he performed this musical masterpiece ..........
Raw and beautiful.. A true masterpiece...❤
David Hoyle is a good act.
My life in a song...
First saw this song in MTV wayback 1998 when internet was not powerful as it is today. I thought this version was a trash, then found myself more than 20 yrs ago listening hundreds of times for this masterpiece cover.

What a brilliant singer patron simply unreall and great that as they push the boundaries and sing song's that nobody woukd expect them to
I never tire of watching this fantastic video...
Thank you Bee Gees of the 60's
This song will always be associated with the Joker i know, but the lyrics are captivating on their own. Someone who is eager to be understood by the world, for their emotions to be seen just as what they are, yet people take them for another. Only the sky is witness of their despair. Until resignation comes, their only closure is their final life's ending, and yet society still never understood or saw what was in front of them so clearly.
The Bee gees were so real for that. I found this song a decade ago thanks to loving Faith No More.
It almost seems like Barry Gibb wrote it from the place of an artist, because I can feel that's how most of the music legends must've felt under the public eye.
what a voice , my god
What a voice. So talented.
He can sing anything he wants
That was an amazing cover. That dude is mesmerizing
