27:23 most important part of this video - the mitochondria chart!! (for all of you that look to the comments for pinpointing help - here it is!) followed by 37:18 - the nitric oxide chart. I know we have fun talking, but this is where we pay the most attention if we're listening (I was)
Great video, as someone diagnosed with a mitochondrial myopathy (mitochondrial disease) at age 50 this is a great primer. I’m in the medical field so have some training but this is an excellent explanation for the layperson. Thank you!
Sumac has 312400 ORACs and tastes lovely mixed with hummus. Has a salty lemony flavour so good with a lot of things. Very high in quercetin. Not sure how it measures up to Amla but worth adding to your spice rack 😃
I'm an apple-blueberry-red grapes-even cinnamon kind of person. I pick concord grapes straight from the vine - the variety where I live tastes like mangos! The other ones aren't as much for me, not really into the roots and seeds, so I'm glad there's options.
I've read several journal articles on the benefits of salicylates (aspirin and related compounds) on mitochondrial. They're abundant in plant foods, especially spices such as cumin, so this may be a major reason that a whole food plant-based diet is so healthy.
Great video, ton of awesome information. Thank you!! Now a quick question - What’s the disadvantage of using already milled flaxseed/chia seeds or grinding a whole bunch of it for later use? It’s not practical to grind 1-2 tablespoons of it on a daily basis.
Other people say ground flaxseed stays fine at room temperature for months. So don't sweat it. Personally I soak the whole seeds overnight and then blend them in my smoothie. Works great as well.
I switched from coffee to amla green hibiscus, which I like; but after about six months, my teeth became very sensitive and painful. I looked it up and it says it is very acidic and can cause erosion of tooth enamel and hypersensitivity. Wish there had been some cautions. Any advice on how best to consume your products? I was sipping on it for o ne to two hours. Maybe just drinking it down would be better? Hibiscus is also acidic, per Dr. Greger rinse your mouth and don't brush for an hour or more. Gets complicated. Appreciate advice from Cyrus. Thanks.
Is there a concern regarding higher triglycerides when consuming more fruits like red grapes, or other sweet fruits with the benefits you are describing?
Pls! Yes ! At the beginning try avoiding fruits until you insulin sensitive enough then try to reintroduce them! Fructose in fruits is going to worsen ur symptoms at the beginning
I learn this hard way!! quick note this work for me: 1Little to fat (under 30g) 2 No fructose ( not even fruits at the beginning u can introduce them later) 3Don’t combine carb and protein together 4Avoid any kind of sugar 5Avoid over consumption of calories ( yes even complex carb will turn into fat if eaten over maintenance u have to track your calories is important) Eventually u can have a more balanced the better u get!! Hope things workout for you! Eventually
46:17 I know that people would eat this gooseberry with currants and yogurt in the past - because they like the tartness. I always found them to be sweet, but not super sweet. They weren't sour to me. But I guess you can consume them with blackcurrants for a sweetness and antioxidant kick.
What is the actual concentration of the amla green? I see it says 20 times but dont know the reference or actually concentration so its difficult to compare alternatives. Can this info be provided? Gracias!
Just my personal anecdote: yes, I suddenly found I had way more energy, including energy to exercise, when I went plant based. I always thought it was the cardio vascular effects on circulation, but I guess it was also improved mitochondrial function. I certainly went from noticing sugar spikes, to no such issues at all. And my triglycerides are in the perfect range, according to labs. Unfortunately in my case LDL cholesterol didn't get that good, so is individual variation. However, still a net positive, and we'll have to see if I need statins at some point. For now the dr. Says, I'm fine. 😊
If you don't eat cholesterol you're not at risk for the same problems people who do eat cholesterol have. Your own created cholesterol even when a bit higher is not a risk factor on a low fat whole foods plant exclusive diet. Dr. Doug Lisle also has high cholesterol whilst being low fat vegan. Statins have their own risks, they are not risk free.
Pyure, sold in Walmart, is Stevia, but it contains controversial erythritol. I use Stevia in the Raw brand, which does not use the filler erythritol, but a safer one. Why I use it is because I drink green tea but find it unpalatable without dash of sweetness. A half packet per 6 ounces hot tea, just a touch.
you might want to consider adding in barley grass powder. It's sweet naturally but has no sugar added. More nutritious than stevia. I love stevia way better than cane sugar, but to increase the nutrition into your body, barley grass is a more nutritious sweetener alternative.
Japanese people drink a ton of green tea and when I lived there I learned how to make it. As the water heats, watch for the first bubble. That is the optimal water temperature. Pour the water immediately over the tea leaves. Count or time for 30 seconds. Remove tea bag or tea leaves. Green tea is only bitter when overbrewed or the temperature of the water is too high. I prefer Ito-en Genmai Cha loose leaf which is green tea mixed with roasted brown rice. A very smooth taste. My second choice is Ito-en Green Tea bags (Costco). I avoid Chinese green tea because after living also in China I see what an ecological wasteland China has become with catastrophic pollution.
@@happycook6737 Hey, appreciate very detailed reply, thank you very much! But....I only use tea bags, currently been using Bigelow Green Tea. Would love to try Ito-en Green Tea next time I shop at Costco:)
24:07 I always love stirring things up by throwing curve balls of foods he never knew about before lol. Give Chuck a little run for his vegan money lol. All in good fun and humor!
24:18 it's true about my name: - extropian is a value infrastructure for helping humanity * this is how you build civilization - transhuman is the physical bodily modifications that improve (some say 'enhance') humans past their natural capabilities We're all transhuman - if we consume food, we physically modify our bodies on a molecular basis by building our bodies up from the materials in the environment. So I take the principle of transhumanism and think about how we can be the most ethical in our choices in our transhuman path! And that's laying out the groundwork for such expansion. I greatly believe PCRM heavily invests in the value infrastructure for helping humanity out - so that we can build civilization via being more civilized by the day! People got confused by my previous username - hawaiisunfun - which was just a random username from when I was younger, but I really want to embody what I'm about - so it's perfect now!
45:04 I really like how he's explaining what is the purposes of cleaning out the cells of saturated fat. It's so when you get nutrients into the body - it's to boost mitochondrial production. I heard that comes from sugar too - which is what Sarah Erika did (which I watched on Gillian Berry's channel). That's probably why the fruit sugars are healing - because it delivers the sugar at the right rate - for the body to keep mitochondrial production at its peak.
I think it had to do with dr greger's how not to age presentation where he mistook brain shrinkage to be a bad thing, but he didn't realize that it wasn't due to mental decline, but rather swelling from inflammation! So no, resveratrol is great - I wouldn't think there's a need for a topic on that. That said, if Cyrus came back with a whole episode on dates - I'm be ready for that one!
@ that was my decision too but I’m always trying to get to assess best approach. I like Dr Gregors suggestion regarding how to take some spices in gel capsules
@seagoat8004 I make spice capsules of turmeric, cinnamon and ground ginger with a cute contraption called 'Cap-m-quik' and you can buy gel caps to fill yourself. It's been good. Haven't found those starch wraps Greger uses in New Zealand
@17:48 - that all makes sense BUT then why do people like the "glucose goddess" (who is also very knowledgeable) recommend the following overall schedule for a meal? -- fiber -- then protein and fats - then carbs - says carbs have slowest digestion this way, but seems like it's better to do fiber, then carbs, then protein and fats (overall - each portion will have some of each) I think all of this lends back to "low cal" - no matter what you eat. You will burn through it if you are low cal. So, perhaps if low cal, then glucose goddess's approach might be best to prevent blood sugar spike
Fat is a mitochondrial inhibitor and leads to insulin resistance. The only fat i eat is fat naturally found in the food, it's enough. My sources for this, dr. John mcDougall and dr. Peter Rogers (also a biochemist like the glucose goddess).
Dont know how you dont worry about glucose spike and damage insulin sensitivity. The impact of sybean and other pesticides on fruits kills your efforts on mitochondria. Delicate balance
There's no crying in politics! Steel up the spine and get ready for the next round. I'm a huckleberry in a sea of ketchup state. Harden up and ready to go!
I don't get it - this would likely help decrease shock and grieving from poor health. What're you talking about? It's important to watch to save a life!

Always love seeing Dr. Khambatta here! He's so intelligent and humble. ❤
yeah, very humble .. calling yourself best nerd/expert of mitochondria
Big fan of Amala berry. I use the Amala powder in my daily smoothies. My BP has finally reduced from 140/80 to 124/64.

Dr. Peter Rogers speaks of the mitochondria and it's inhibitors a LOT. Can recommend especially if you're into biochemistry.

There is also alulose. It's safe for diabetics. It's similar to regular table sugar but the taste isn't exact but close.

How about datesugar? It has some fiber.
Add I add cocoa powder to my groat oats every morning. I use blueprint brand so I don't have the counterproductive heavy metals. 💚🌱💚

Is plant based cheese as bad as real dairy cheese?
Wonder what type of fat We are talking about here.

Geez, the ORAC assay measurement was discontinued back in 2012 due to innacuracies in human interactions.
Laughable
I feel the Mitochondria of Dr Khambatta is also disturbed
This is the most backwards video ever. 😂

nothing to do with anything here. Maybe there's a politics video for you to ramble over
