Just after the massacre at Emanuel African Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina, I saw the Gospel at Colonus. When they closed the performance with Let the Weeping Cease, there was not a dry eye in the house. Many of us sobbed loudly. It was a collective healing, mourning and resurrection, through the power of this music.
I saw this cast perform at the Doolittle Theater in Los Angeles quite a few years ago. I will always remember it. I am surprised I do since my tears flowed like Niagara Falls. I am a big theater buff, but this one takes the cake at making me feel I was part of the show. I have worn out my DVD but will have a new one in a few days.
My mom introduced this to me as a small girl. It was her all time favorite. I have been taking her death, two weeks ago, very hard....I declare unto you just out of the blue, I can hear her singing this in my head....I just had to come on here to listen, it was so clear. THANK YOU, Mommy! I hear you loud and clear! I have been throwing a major tantrum over your departure! God is amazing! If I didn't have my very own relationship with the Lord, I would be spooked to hear her sing to me, but I recognize God when I know HE is speaking! I am going to be ALL RIGHT! Nothing like a SANCTIFIED, RIGHTEOUS Mother! I have be DIVINELY blessed!
The brother sounds like Sam Cooke, because he is one of his many successors in the great gospel group, The Soul Stirrers. This song always cheers me up. The VHS has been available on amazon.com in the past.

The inspiration of man. /such a great performance and casting we should definately seek to continue this unique heritage of ancient reflections in the mythologies as they stimulate the minds of man to raise their intellects above the modern carnal and base imagery of their own mortality. can we have more of this please and when is the next performance to be and of whom should the legend be told. good hunting!!!!
What a beautiful song.. I would change the verse that say's " let no one mour again", because that not scripture. Hiwever this should be sunged at the conclusion of funerals.
