Now towards the end of this song they weren't acting. The power of God really fell down upon them !!!! God is so good, wish I could of been there to experience this !!!
Ever since I was a little girl I grew up listening to this choir in church. Amazing choir I also love how Carolyn sing that song. Her voice gave me chills the first time I heard this song. My Grandmother would shout to this song. Love it
This was an amazing show that has been so ignored by the musical theatre world. The concept was so amazingly well realized. This number gave me chills and was a high point in the my musical theatre youth experience.
Would be great but Lee Breuer, its creator, died a few years ago. I believe the Five Blind Boys are still around, so someone would need to bring it back soon!!
1986 was the year...Minneapolis was the city...the Guthrie was the venue...and this show allowed me to mourn the death of my father (from the year before) and showed me how to FORGIVE him. Yes, Morgan Freeman and Carl Lumbly were in the show. I saw this 7 times, cried hard every single time; sang and clapped all the way home. The Lord's spirit was there every time, every time! "Eternal Sleep" started the mourning, and "Lift Him Up" raised us up the heavens!
this is my all time fav of the play...this lady can sssanggg...love this and its a good prasie (shouting/dance in the spirit) kind of song...watch out now...
+Michele Robinson her name is Carolyn Johnson-White. She was on Sunday Best 3 yrs ago maybe? It goes to show you what happens when the younger ones dont do their history..case in point. She was on the show...and one of the girls from Mary Mary, told her...You Have a really nice voice but I dont see you ministering outside your church. (what a mess)
The lil boy shown at 6:46 was on point with the song clearly someone in his family was in the choir he must have been a rehearsal or 2 just as cute as can be
In this play Clarence Fountain's character has died right before this song. I see he just couldnt hold himself back and I dont blame him. There is no script when the Holy Ghost takes over.
The same thing happened in "Your Arms Too Short to Box With God", and "Mama I Want to Sing" - Can't play church with real church folks and not HAVE SOME CHURCH!!!!!
❤ The Gospel at Colonnus is an amazing experience. I can listen to it, all of it, all day. The Spirit is moving!!!
Institutional Church of God and Christ had the BEST choir in those days. Grew up in that church.
CLASSIC! ...Amazing vocals from CAROLYN JOHNSON WHITE and the legendary INSTITUTIONAL RADIO CHOIR of BROOKLYN, NY!
Peace and love...

Saw this on PBS, of all places as a teenager, this legendary performance had this North Carolina boy all stirred up in the best way!!!!
Anybody that is in tune with the spirit knows that there was no acting here. The spirit of the Lord was in this scene.

My Favorite Song from this musical
One of my favorite things about Spirit is that it transcends time. In 2023 I felt it move all through that room and my patio. AMEN ASE
I will never tire of seeing such an explosion of joy.
I saw this in the Late 1980's. And I also had it on VHS. Wore it out as I played it so much! Truly a blessing!
When the Holy Ghost takes over a production!!!...that camera shaking from the brothers going IN blessed me real good!!! :)
The organist is killing it !! The soloist hit a high "A" holy cow!!!
This song was straight Cherch all the way!!!
