Remember watching this (and recording this on our vcr) back in '85 on channel 13- PBS NY when I was a kid, 9- 10ish. My dad was a bass player, so he would always rewatch to play the cover with his bass ❤🎸
this is one of the greatest gospel musicals ive ever heard!!!!!! j.j.farley and the orginal soul stirriers are singing some of the sweetest harmonys this side of heaven blow my brothers blow!!!! T.LEE BIG SWAG FOR JESUS!!!!!!!!
I remember being shocked that this was not nominated for Best Musical that year. sometimes, one truly wonder if the Tony Committee are actual members of the theatre community.
Gospel at Colonus show creator Lee Breuer with filmmakers Eric Marciano and Adam Larsen, and musician Sam Butler (also in Gospel) are making a doc about and with Clarence Fountain, one of the original, and surviving members of The Blind Boys of Alabama. Please follow on twitter at @ClarenceBBOA
I had the great good fortune of seeing this cast at the Doolittle Theater in Los Angeles. I have gone to theater many times, but I have never been moved like this. I laughed , I cheered, I stood and applauded, but most of all I cried like a baby. Watching these on youtube, I still react the same way. I love the Oedipus plays and I am sure Sophocles would love this.
Mr Banks’ opening was stellar! ❤️❤️
I found this movie when I was in the Navy 😊

I really liked seeing Robert Earl Jones (James Earl Jones' father) in this at the end. His voice sounds just like his son. Like father like son.

When this number ended, there was no roof left on the Doolittle theatre. At least that's how it seemed.
