Spoken like a true watch fanatic: “My brother’s going to be moving away, so before he goes I wanted to spend some more time with his watch.” It is a really nice watch!
I owned both the SARX033 & 35. Fit and finish are on another level and more superior than the Sarb. 100% worth the additional $. I sold them during a purge of my collection and miss them both. I want them back so I just ordered both watches online last night. You won't be disappointed. Btw, the watch wears well on my 6.5 inch wrist. Well done Teddy. 👊
Very good video. Very well done. After 25 years collecting watches I can honestly say that Seiko makes fantastic watches. I wish Seiko would include a screwdown crown in this model.
If people are considering this watch, I'd also recommend the SARX055. It has a frosted/textured dial instead of a creamy white one, and has polished white hour and minutes hands, but keeps the blue seconds hand. Absolutely gorgeous watch, and can be had for right around the same price quoted as the SARX033
I've owned many Seiko watches since my first Seiko Pogue in 1976. This SARX033 is probably one of the classiest Seikos I've seen for a while. Seiko watches provide awesome bang for the price.
Teddy Baldassarre I just saw the video review for the Maestro and this comment. Thanks for the reply Teddy! As much as both the Bambino Ver 2 Gen 2 and Maestro are beautiful and stunning in their own way I've been taken in by the blue dial Open Heart Bambino. I get the feeling that I've embarked on a very expensive hobby 😅
I'm making my way through your backlog of videos and loved this as well as reading your blog on the top 40 Seiko watches. I'd love to see a SARX055 review after your great write up on it in the blog post.
Bought a SARX 033 about 6 months ago and really like it. Also own the SARB 033 and agree that SARX is a significant step up in quality from the SARB, though both have to compete with my recent Explorer purchase for wrist time. Enjoy your videos, keep up the good work!
I own a sarx035. They are next-level. They are have an anti-reflective sapphire so the dial looks very inky black at almost all times. The polished markers really stand out on that dial as well. And the bracelet is diashield coated so less worry of it being scratched. Also, one huge thing to note about the bracelet is that no other clasp sits as flush as the one on this one does. There’s no bump on it. It just looks very well-integrated.
I owned both the Sarx033 and Sarx035. I also owned the and the Sarb033 for a short while. The Sarx is on a much superior level compared to the Sarb. If anyone is on the fence...you won't be disappointed. Great video.
@@veetour The Sarx has the zaratsu polishing, same method of polishing on the Grand Seikos, although some would argue not quite to the level of the GS but still superior to the sarbs standard polish. However, everything else seems to be at around equal quality to the Sarb, including the same movement.
Started searching for my first automatic watch and have been watching your videos and subscribed, now I’m having a harder time deciding since I have been loving so many different brands and styles!
A truly fantastic watch seem to remember now your brother had one. I own a SARB035 but I would gladly trade up to this SARX plus it would fit me better than the 38mm. Those blue hands on the white dial really push my buttons and not been able to stretch to a GS yet this would make perfect sense. Good review Teddy though no clasp shots.
Have this watch for about 1 year. It will never leave my collection. I also have the SARB035, which is loved but not worn enough by my wife, because she fears she could damage it somehow :D The SARX033 *POPS* on a honey leather strap with blacked flanks.
Great video Teddy! I personally own a SARB035, and while I love the SARX033, the fact that you can buy Strapcode bracelets for the SARB makes it a potentially better buy if you have trouble getting Seiko Presage bracelets to fit you right.
I went to Japan in Dec 2018, In the BIC Camera department store I held the SARB035 and the SARX033 in my hands and walked away with the SARX033. It was an easy decision when you can see both in person.
I have the sarb 033 and this sarx, i freakin love the sarx its so fucking beautiful. One of my all time favorite watches. I love my sarb but if i had to give one up it wouldnt be the sarx thats for sure.

I know someone who invested in a lovely Macro lens! You are playing on the level from Watchfinder man !
The SARX series is breathtaking. Especially the 035 is very nice. It's hard to describe its elegance until you actually hold one. Looks simple, but there is so much going on.
There is a big difference in quality and size of the SARB vs SARX when comparing in person. I think the SARB watches look too small on wrists over 7". Diashield coating is added to the SARX bracelets, plus an antireflective coating on the sapphire, which makes the SARX035 dial inky black from all angles.
I owned this watch. The hands are thermally blued and amazing. The bracelet is really, really good. This watch would be two grand if it were made in Switzerland. I cannot recommend it enough. Those with big wrists (mine are 8"), you might need extra links so choose a good dealer. Long Island Watch is the best, but they are pulling all JDM's in a few days. I like SeiyaJapan for all my JDM's, although I am selling now as I am unemployed. I cannot recommend this watch enough. I would also recommend any of the enamel-dial Presage watches.
Great review teddy, I do think its a better looking than a sarb. however it seems the sarb is the only watch with similar aesthetics that has smaller dimensions than 40mm . most 40mm watches dont look great on me wrist
Sarx015 is my dream Sarx. A bit sportier of a case shape than other sarbs and sarys of the world, and it has lume! Sadly it is discontinued and not widely available. Love my sary057 though. The substantially curved lugs makes it stand a bit out, and wear like a dream.
OES 25 I’m a huge fan of my SARY057. I beat the hell out of it bartending and it’s still my most accurate watch despite owning an Orient Star, a Tissot, and a Mido Ocean Star
Another great video. I must be in the minority that thinks these watches are boring as heck. They just don't do a single thing for me. Although I will say the quality looks superb.
If you've never been, you'll for SURE enjoy visiting your brother in Denver. It's beautiful there! See if you can get in a SARX055 : I handled one at an enthusiast GTG and was super impressed with it - almost as pleasant as the Globemaster and way more affordable.
The Seiko SARV001 looks very similar to this watch, it's a JDM specific watch with similar white cream face, stainless case, but it can be had for $200 or less shipped from Japan to the US. It's also one of my most accurate watches.
Loving my Sary055 and sarb033, ordered a new Strapcode bracelet for the sarb so it’ll fit better. I’ve had a Rolex owner look at my watch and told me he was jealous, looked much better in person and was considering buying one!
Het Teddy! Thanks to you I got into watches a lot more, so first: thank you. My problem is that I don’t really know where to buy watches online at good prices (I’m on a budget). Could you make a video on your favorite/most reliable watch retailers online? Would be best if they ship worldwide! Keep up the good work!
Thanks Teddy! Im torn bettween this and the tissot gentleman. I have an SBDC063, and im not super thrilled with th 6r15. I like the looks of the sarx but the powermatic movement in the gentleman.
I have this watch but the black version I wear it pretty much every day and I’m a roofing company owner. I wear it like an explore it’s perfect for my life style and it doesn’t make me look rich in front of my customers it makes me look sensible but it’s a sharp looking watch not too dressy. Someone said that it’s a sporty dress watch or a dressy sport watch.
Before I had money I had a quartz Seiko that kept really good time. Because it was so cheap I beat the crap out of it until it broke; then I threw it away. A good, cheap watch for when I couldn’t afford anything else and just needed to know what time it is.
Really wanted this watch but as I was about to buy it full RRP, the sleazy salesman tried to simply box the exposed model which had small dents and scratches from people trying it on. Ended up getting an SKX because Seiko shopping in italy is stupid. At least I'm satisfied.
The SRPB69J1 (English and German day wheel) and the SRP527J1 (English and Kanji day wheel) are the "poor man's" versions of this at around $300-$400, though both since discontinued and hard to find.
Thanks a lot for all the great content, Teddy! I love your channel! I am looking for an everyday watch (from casual to business casual) and I am considering buying either the SARX045 ($550) or the SARX035 ($750). Which one do you think I should buy? The SARX045 is probably a better deal but I am afraid that the lug to lug height of 48 mm might be too big for me. My wrist is just above 6 inches (15,5 cm). I have a Hamilton Khaki Field (38mm dial and 47mm lug to lug) which I think fits me well but it also already in the limits of my wrist. .. The SARX035 has a more approachable lug to lug height, but I am not sure if it is worth the extra $200 and if the 41mm dial wouldn't look goofy on my wrist... I can only find the SARB033 for over $700, so it is just not a good value proposition for me (even though I like the size more) Thank you!
Another great review. I have a SARB035 and this is clearly a step above in terms of all the things you've mentioned. For me it is worth the additional price of admission, in particular the more intricate, dressier bracelet. I'd love to add one to the collection - tbh swaying more towards a dark dial SARX variant so that it won't cannibalise the SARB035 wrist time! One question: is the bracelet clasp better finished than the SARB's? I quite like the milled, tapered surface on the underside of the clasp where it touches the wrist on my Premier Perpetual.
If you have a sarx033 and want a another black dial, let try sdgm003, not sarx035. Believe me, they are both beautiful in other ways and will be a perfect couple for people who love Seiko watches. I have a couple like that, not exactly, they are sarx035 for black and sdgm001 for white, such a great couple from Seiko, i think they have no rival but the sarx033 & sdgm003, love them so much
Looks fantastic but I can't get over the printing of the chapter ring at 4:42. It clearly isn't symmetrical at the 12 o'clock and the chapter ring itself isn't aligned with the 12 o'clock indice. I love Seiko and own both a Sarb033 and 035 but I expected better QC moving up the ladder. Shame. I still might pick one up though.
I had watches with painted hands and with genuine blued hands. I prefer the painted hands. Blued hands does not make it more expensive. IMO the blued hands are usually too dark for my liking.
Yes better quality Than sarb. But lacks 033 uniqueness; casé shape, polished faces, besel profile, , needle second hand, hands size and form. Crown profile and of couse the 38mm
does the braclet have diashield like the new Sharp Edge Series? They look IDENTICAL! And is diashield worth paying for, or a cheap way to increase price?
The problem i have with Seikos is finding a bracelet that is as high quality as, say a Tissot or any other Swiss brand. Good that they put a little more into this one. But it still isn't as well finished as my Tissots, Maurice Lacroix (entry level model even). The links aren't solid throughout and the clasp is cheaper and not finished as well. And I see people saying Tissots are overpriced, but they are always comparing a Seiko 5 or SARB to a 800-1000 dollar Tissot. Well, this watch starts to push 1000, so there really isn't much of a difference when you actually compare similar quality watches, but I'm still going Swiss (I mean I still prefer Swiss, I do own Seikos, too, for variety).
my only concern is the sizing of this watch. I feel like the sarb035 would be a perfect fit for me as I already have the snkl23 and skx013 in my collection and they fit me just right
The 6r15, hell, even the 7s26 (In 3/4 cases for me at least), will likely run within cosc if you are okay with the possibility of needing a good watch-maker to regulate it first. They are great movements mechanically, just not as finely tuned out of the factory as a certified chronometre is.
Buy a time-grapher (not expensive) and bring some patience with it... you will never need a watchmaker for the regulation of your watches. I regulate my 7S26/4R35/6R15 movements to run spot on.
Hi Teddy! I was wondering, if you have to choose between this Seiko sarx055 and the Ball fireman enterprise, which one would you choose? Hope you can help me
Oh my, what's going on with that chapter ring? At 4:43 you can see the printed sub-second indices are really badly misaligned with the printed second/minute indices, which in turn are quite badly misaligned with the applied hour indices on the dial :(
I guess it's hard to tell if the two watches aren't in hand. But would it be a safe assumption to make that the build quality of the SARX is a bit more sturdy than the SARB?
I’m used to Seiko’s chapter rings not being aligned to the dial...but I’ve never noticed one before which doesn’t even align to *itself*. (4:43) Anyone know if this is a common problem?
Spoken like a true watch fanatic: “My brother’s going to be moving away, so before he goes I wanted to spend some more time with his watch.”

does the braclet have diashield like the new Sharp Edge Series? They look IDENTICAL! And is diashield worth paying for, or a cheap way to increase price?
4:22 Crooked date wheel would drive me nuts
4:43 Applied indices do not align with the painted marker on top
to help with our ocd
not to mention the blotchy numerals
I would recommend the sarb55 which is a step up above the sarb033. Theres more detail in the sarb055 imo.
MetalsForBrunch do you mean SARY055?
And of course I need a white dialed watch that fits this category and a bigger stack of cash! 😜 Thanks for the video!
Good luck for your brother.
Nice watch choice!
BTW, it's the 1st comment on this video.
So nice! And then notifications were a bit early. Very strange.
@@TeddyBaldassarre It was a great video, though I was expecting that you"ll showcase the watch W/ your straps, this watch is truly a strap monster.
Not in the same league but I just got myself an srpb41 presage and its a real cloud on the wrist
my only concern is the sizing of this watch.
Love your content, probably my favourite for learning about watches 👍 what do think of the seiko coutura line ?
Hi Teddy! I was wondering, if you have to choose between this Seiko sarx055 and the Ball fireman enterprise, which one would you choose? Hope you can help me
Oh my, what's going on with that chapter ring? At 4:43 you can see the printed sub-second indices are really badly misaligned with the printed second/minute indices, which in turn are quite badly misaligned with the applied hour indices on the dial :(
Awesome review. I would have liked some shots of the bracelet. You talked so much about it but there were no shots of it or the clasp. Thanks
I ordered it because this review
Very helpful. Thanks!
People think Seiko =diver/spring drive but these are superb. For the price those hands had better be heat treated
