    They did testing on brands of resin and how fast they yellowed. Envirotex( one being used in video) was of 3 resins that's yellowed tje fastest in direct sunlight. All epoxy will yellow over time but just wanted to throw that out there. Great video

    I've used Frosted shrink Plastic, but my work is always very see through at the end. So i cant use them as a Pin .Yours look way more white at the end and not see through. Is it because of the Plastic? or because of the Pencils? My always look very sketchy

    Oh and where do you get your chain and clasps? What size of chain do you use?

    • @koholakai
      @koholakai  8 років тому +2

      +halowolf I use some metal chain from JoAnn's or Michaels (I'm not sure the size, but its the smallest link size they carry). I also order sterling silver and silver plated for from Beadaholique on Amazon. :)

    Hi! I was just wondering, can you use Copic markers or sharpies to colour it? Thanks!

    • @koholakai
      @koholakai  8 років тому +3

      I don't think copic markers are safe to use- I've only used sharpies and colored pencil.

    I coloured my shrinkies with colour pencils and Im having a problem with my Shrinkie's colour running or bleeding when glazing it with resin or varnish it with acrylic varnish, does anyone have any good suggestion to prevent the colour from bleeding/smudge?

    I've made the mistake of using resin that was made for casting and the doming never fully cured and was tacky, I'll definitely by getting some envirotex lite

    • @koholakai
      @koholakai  8 років тому

      +halowolf I've made the same mistake! The first time I used resin on charms I used Easy Cast and it was a huge mess. I didn't realize casting resin is built to spread. XD
      Envirotex Lite tends to stay in place pretty well once you apply it. :)

    have you ever used embossing powder to make it shiny instead of resin?

    • @koholakai
      @koholakai  8 років тому

      I have not personally used embossing powder, but I have heard from other shrink plastic artists that it can turn yellow over time. :/

    Hi there, great tutorial! do you coat both sides of the charm with resin?

    • @koholakai
      @koholakai  8 років тому

      Thank you! I only coat the front side with resin, the back is coated with a fixative (I use mod podge).

    • @erynemotional
      @erynemotional 8 років тому +3

      +kohola-kai +kohola-kai I also make shrink plastic charms and I coat both sides of the charm with resin even after coating the one side with mod podge, it makes the charms more durable and looks pretty.

    • @koholakai
      @koholakai  8 років тому

      +Hershey Marie Thank you! :D
      And yes, you can make brooches with this method. I use it all the time- just omit the hole punching part and once its finished, I hot glue a bar pin on the back.
