You don’t want to go any further than that or you’ll max your suspension so it won’t have downward travel if you hit a dip the front tires will loose contact. They're great trucks, I've owned 3 and still own a 95 with well over 200k. Mine is a work horse. Step or brush bars as some call them are a Excellent addition, especially if they match the front brush bar. Also change the torque converter to one from a chevy blazer of same year or tranny and it makes a big difference in acceleration (keeping up with traffic these days, research it). The above statement was a compliment with a opinion on something to add to your list

Agree on the radio. I have a full system in my 98. The rest of my truck is stock. I never thought too much about the steering other than the usual loose steering rack that these are known for. Finally, I heard you dont want to put LEDs in the housing because they arent made for them. Definite yes on changing the lights and the toolbox! In any case, very nice truck! She is absolutely beautiful!

Thanks for the video and the very practical tips for enhancing a truck. I have a 1992 K1500 Suburban with the 6 speaker factory stereo and first thing I did when I bought it is upgraded to a modern Kenwood with Bluetooth etc. so I can answer phone hands free and stream music from my IPhone. The console in my truck is bigger than the 96/99 trucks and my 4 x 4 shifter is on the floor where I like it. I have purchased Anzo headlites and park lites but haven't installed them yet. I'm surprised you didn't mention changing out the taillights for plug and play LEDs as they are inexpensive and easy to change out. My Burb came with the RPO NZZ - OFF ROAD pkg and surprisingly 225/75 16 tires as I guess they weren't part of the Odd Road Package. I have bought a 2015 GMC factory 18 inch rims and a set of 265/70 18 inch tires but again haven't installed them.. I will be checking on you suggestion of the front stabilizer and leveling kits but will not be lifting it at all.
You are frigging hilarious man. the 1500 is a great truck because you can do so many things with it. If you want something done right you have to do it yourself. They're not difficult trucks to work on, just get the tools and dive right in.
Not necessarily. If you find a good shop that it honest and fair, then their is nothing wrong with having a professional work on your truck that warranties it.
My top suggestion is to do the body work and rust because 90% of them have rust because they were normally bought for work and to run the piss out of and take a beating.
My center console has an insert in the front that accomodates two large drinks. I have the 99 chevy tahoe but the center console is the same so you should be able to find the insert for your console.
Yep my late dad's 94 i'm keeping it pretty much bone stock and it is 4X4 on the floor shifting and the original AC Delco radio with cassette player works just fine !!!!

Overall, it's a good list though...
Honestly, these truck look a lot better with a 2 inch lift, I put another leaf spring in the back when I replaced my U bolts. Then I turned my torsion bars up by 2 full turns. Cheaper than a lift kit, and its almost the same thing.
You forget the make of a pioneer radio? The make is pioneer. Dude.

Hey man can you help me out with the 4 bulbs I'd need to buy to match your headlight (high and low beams) and turn signals? I saw the link which is useful but I think I'll need 3 different bulb types??
1. Headlight high beam x2
2. Headlight low beam x2
3. Turn Signals x2
Thanks!!
Look at my current videos because I switched led manufactures
Needs to be retitled: "5 Things High School Boys Should Do To Their Dads Truck"
Came here looking for legit mechanical upgrades for a K1500 I just got. Nope. Just stupid high school kid crap. Dont lift a truck unless you want to spend loads of money on suspension components every year.
Came here to read an intelligent comment but instead read a narrow minded guy who doesn’t realize this is an opinionated video. I have made a video about all the things to look out for in a K1500 but then again, I am guessing you didn’t look for any video like that either.
@@TrucksandWater Actually I did see the thumbnail for that video. And if it is strictly opinionated, why title it "5 things EVERY K1500 Owner Should Do", Instead of "5 things I did to MY K1500"? Just sayin lol
So the UA-cam algorithm would pick it up better.
You and me both thought it was a legit video
My list is different. But , I have owned my truck for 23 years now . Nothing is stock no more , except wiring harness .
5:54 technical term is steering dampener
My K1500 is a Silverado Z71 extended cab 5.7 was an unreasonable piece of shit but finally after spending thousands it's starting to get to be a reliable truck. I love the push button 4x4 and the 3rd Dr. I just did a full 3" true duall exhaust no cats double H pipe thrush single chamber mufflers with 5" chrome tips on 90s I'm probably going to delete the trush bottles they sound great but just not loud enough for me.
I had so much respect for your opinion until you said 6000k meant the amount of lumens the headlights produce. I'm not trying to rag on you but 6000k is the white balance. 6000k is perfect white light
Beautiful truck, love the paint. I just bought my neighbors 1994 K1500 Z71 with 157k miles...though not sure the miles are real. I dont know much about cars and trucks but I'm starting to know. I had my eye on this truck for about 3 years so I'm excited about it. I'll definitely look into new headlights; that leveling bar (my truck is lifted); and that steering piece cause the steering wheel has some play in it that I don't like. Thanks
Congrats.
Alot of professionals in the comment section, PROFESSIONAL JERKS!
Nice truck.
Fun game, everytime he said "k1500" take a shot, you'll be messed up in no time.
I have a 94 chevy Silverado 375,000 miles I’m currently changing all sensors I can find I drive it every day like it’s new
Can you share the link of Amazon for the head lights assemble PLEASE?
My suggestion would be a dashcam, backup camera setup, so you can see what's going on around you.
Exactly what my dad had, except it was navy blue exterior and interior, 100,000 miles in transmission blew up, still wish he didn’t sell it. I love the obs body style.
I took out my center storage and built one bigger and longer put cup holders and lights in it it match the color of my truck
Was wondering about the steering wander gonna get the stabilizer asap
Me *running 305 70 16’s* *has tight front end* *can steer with pinky on truck*. I don’t think I really need a steering stabilizer, even on my 2000 i like to keep my front ends tight.
It's not the steering that's the problem. It's the driver
I learned how to drive on a 1973 F100 custom and it had four in from left to right before it started moving the tires LOL three on the tree these kids don't know anything about that
@@michaelb.7800 man I'm 16 and I love those old classic trucks man!!! They don't build'em like they use to.
I bought a console cup holder thing like you have....how did you mount it in the floor?
I too want to know this
9:49 yoooo as someone who's light sensitive...
These new LEDs literally blind me at night. I'm NOT looking right st them. It's when the passing vehicle drives by me.
Soooo yeah, maybe consider its not ppl staring silently at them. Otherwise, it's a great video 😊
I have a 97 GMC 1500 sierra, I love it, I would like to fix it up, upgrade it, what should I do ?
Truck is a beast I currently have 15 of those trucks and counting!!!!
Well you picked a good truck, honestly I don't feel comfortable taking advice from a guy who wasn't born when the truck was produced (you don't look 25). That said you did a good job!!
Agree with everything said here. I have a 98 Chevy Cheyenne 1500 and everything here is a critical upgrade.
Used to have a 96 sierra 1500 when i was a teenager .Just threw ebay shorty headers and a glasspack on top of a obnoxious sound system. Ahh the good ole days.
HELP PLEASE! DO you have Spongy brakes? I have replaced everything and they still go to the floor. The mechanic says that's just the way they are. Can I do an upgrade to a later model/? I would like to fix what I have because I’m 15 and have very little cash. TY in advance
They make aftermarket break boosters for these trucks but they are expensive
@@TrucksandWater Thank you so much for your reply. 🙏
@@TrucksandWater I've been looking and I really Dont know what I'm looking for can you offer me a site or what I should be asking or looking for? TY
Quick question, what's great headlights and bulbs to buy?
I love my 90s Chevy these trucks are great mine has 250,000 miles still running 😂
Tints and those tow mirrors are a must good video
how do you like the rough country suspension kit ? and steering stabalizer ?
I recently bought my fathers 1997 with 131K miles. How often would I need to change the lift kit?
Almost forgot did u put that (roll bar)brush guard on just so that lil LED light bar had something to mount to. That’s awesome good job
COULD U PROVIDE ME THE NAME OF THE HEAD LIGHTS? IM LOOKONG FOR THEM ON AMAZON
4 hi mod is a must have for anyone with an obs, Painless Performance part # 30802
Hey man I can’t find the same bull guard , I also want the same headlights . Which ones are they ?
You are frigging hilarious man. the 1500 is a great truck because you can do so many things with it. If you want something done right you have to do it yourself. They're not difficult trucks to work on, just get the tools and dive right in.
Not necessarily. If you find a good shop that it honest and fair, then their is nothing wrong with having a professional work on your truck that warranties it.
I have a neighbor selling the exact truck this guy has for $1500 as is! Good video by the way 👍
Luis Razo still available??
My top suggestion is to do the body work and rust because 90% of them have rust because they were normally bought for work and to run the piss out of and take a beating.
was the installation of your running lights any different than stock because of LED?
No they were the same.
My center console has an insert in the front that accomodates two large drinks. I have the 99 chevy tahoe but the center console is the same so you should be able to find the insert for your console.
Could you link one for me? I did some light searching and I only found the ones in front of the vent
I have a 1994 chevy, and mine is in stock. Everything from the inside and out are original. But mine is 2wd😞. Really wish mine was 4wd.
Yep my late dad's 94 i'm keeping it pretty much bone stock and it is 4X4 on the floor shifting and the original AC Delco radio with cassette player works just fine !!!!
What’s the purpose of the leveling kit?
What's the brand of bulbs you bought for the headlights
Look at my recent videos. I have switched led manufactures.
Should do cab lights. I was guna starts with headlights cab lights and KC lights. I really like the tow mirrors can you get those from Amazon as well?
I got a 02 S10 and it steers perfectly fine
I'm interested to know if those are halogen housings or LED housings. Cuz throwing LED bulbs into the Halogen model housing with the reflectors is one way to guarantee you are the dude who blinds everyone.
My 89 k1500’s headlights are original and they work better then any I’ve ever seen I have the glass ones from factory though
Colton Bone 88-89s Silverado/Sierra headlights are far superior to any truck’s headlights in the 80s/90s.
Mine are 97's and they work very well, they still are as clear as the day the truck rolled out the factory
