The sadness in Julie's eyes is evident when she says she misses Blake Edwards and that it's only been two years since his passing.
I feel the same way about my best friend. He died in October 2010 and it took me nearly two years to recover. It's been 3 years now and I'm in a better place and can function in society again, but there are moments when a pang of longing suddenly hits me, usually around this time (i.e. Oscar season) when we would watch all the Oscar-nominated films, talk about them, and anticipate the ceremony. I don't have anyone to do that with anymore.
But I also miss the joy and especially the hope he brought into my life. I used to be so hopeful about the future. As long as he was by my side, I felt like I could march forward, come what may. But now I don't look toward the future anymore. As the years pass, I fear my memories of him fading and gradually vanishing from sight. I no longer get excited whenever I get a text or phone call hoping that it's him. I have accepted that he is gone for good. In a way, I miss the days and even months immediately following his death, even though at the time it was hell. But he was still fresh in my memory and his presence was very strong. Now, not so much. I mean, I think of him fondly, but I don't have that feeling like he could walk through the door any time.

What a glorious coloratura voice. I look forward to her NZ Program. I hope the interviewers will not just walk through Sound of Music and Marry Poppins but her array of incredible concerts that she sang in. Her Japanese concerts were by far the most beautiful singing. Her vocal precision because of her training, is unmatched by the best even today. I hope she will choose to speak more about her early vocal training. Its what made her Julie Andrews, The Legend.

Never could understand artists who are embarrassed by their wholesomeness instead of honored by it. Seems they spend the rest of their lives trying to tear down the beauty they created. If it's art they are worried about, their is absolutely nothing in sex and violence that advances it - usually just the opposite.

Intro: Welcome back. She is practically perfect in every way. Julie Andrews enchanted us all as the magical nanny Mary Poppins, then came Maria in the 'Sound of Music,' but as well as being nice she can also be naughty apparently, on a few fronts. I'm not sure if this should have a viewer discretion warning. Julie Andrews with Alex Cullen
Interviewer: We're going to do a wholesome test and I'm gonna ask you-
      Julie: Wholesome test?
I: Yes like a - you know - to see how wholesome you are.
J: I see. Uh-huh. So you just don't believe huh?
      I: No, I don't believe - hopefully after this test I will.
      J: Oh my.
I: So alright. The wholesome test begins now.
      J: Okay
I: Have you ever skinny dipped?
      J: Yes.
I: Have you ever said the F-word?
J: Oh yes I have, and a few others beside.
I: Have you ever kissed another woman?
      J: Kissed another woman? Once.
-clips from movies and random outtakes-
I: Is it fair to say that you are wholesome with a tendency to be bad?
J: Oh...yes, if you knew me, well certainly a little wicked at times yeah, cheeky would be a great description.
      -clip from movie-
J: And just not quite as pristine and pure as you might believe from films like Mary Poppins.
      -clip from Mary Poppins-
J: I've done movies that have done movies that have been very different, they're not just family movies, but the two that were probably the most successful-Poppins and Sound of Music-were family films and if you think about it, every seven years or so there's a new generation to see those films so instead of sort of just fading from sight those movies keep coming back and there's always a new audience.
I: As a child when did you know you could sing?
J: Oh that was at a very early age. I was about seven when my step-father, who was a fine tenner, and my mother accompanied him on the piano, and they decided to give me some singing lessons to "keep me quiet" so to speak, and he discovered that I had this freak voice for a young kid.
      -clips of Julie singing-
I: Rain drops on roses and whiskers on kittens.
J: Right and bright copper kettles and-
      I: Warm woolen mittens
      J: That's it!
I: Brown paper packages tied up with strings
      J: You're reading. He's reading.
      I: I am. Sorry
J: Yeah, you see, it's all a cheat.
      -clip of Sound of Music-
I: What is it about that film that still resonates today?
J: Glorious music, beautiful scenery, kids, and a very good family story.
-clip of Mary Poppins supercalifragilisticexpialidocious scene-
I: Can you still say it backwards?
J: Yes of course I can. Can you?
      I: No!
      J: Oh! Okay docious-ali-expi-istic-fragil-cali-rupus, it's very simple.
      I: Very simple
-clip of Julie receiving an award-
I: I want to talk about Blake Edwards
J: Oh I'd like that. The most charismatic, funny, black humor, sweet, complicated man that I've ever met in my life. Certainly for me the most attractive guy I've ever met.
I: The movies you made with him, wow, I mean I wanted to talk about S.O.B. where we saw a bit more of Julie Andrews than usual.
      -clip of S.O.B. scene-
J: I knew I was in safe keeping because it was Blake. It wasn't as if it was a stranger and you know, bearing my bosom was part of the legitimate role. It wasn't just done for being a gimmick it was actually part of the dramatic ark of the film. So it was okay. And he did take good care of me.
      -Pictures of Julie and Blake-
I: How did that marriage survive for 41 years in Hollywood?
J: We both had enormous respect for each other and I think it takes two people to want a marriage to last and it did last so I think we both wanted it to. And I'm glad.
      I: Yeah.
J: I still miss him. My God, it's only two years.
      -clip of Julie singing-
J: I loved, and do love the singing. I mean it's all that I felt I knew how to do.
I: You had throat surgery 1997, and I know you can't say too much about it because there was an out of court settlement.
J: Well and I don't particularly want to yeah.
I: But what's it like not to be able to do something like singing?
J: It's heartbreaking. I could still sing a fair rendition of 'Old Man River' in a deep bass voice, but I couldn't sing the Sound of Music for instance, which was heart-breaking. But here's the thing, I think to some extent I see the glass half full, not half empty.
      -clip of Princess Diaries 2-
I: Well you did sing though, on the set of Princess Diaries.
      J: Well I wouldn't call it singing.
I: Again you're spanning the generations.
J: Yeah, and a lot of children know me better for the Princess Diaries than they do for Sound of Music and Poppins.
      -The Verdict-
J: So now, what's your verdict?
I: Well not as wholesome as I first thought you were.
      J: Thank you.
Closure: But it was noted she is irrevocably nice. She'll be bringing her stage show 'An Evening With Julie Andrews' to Auckland in June. That's it from us for now. We'll catch up with you on Facebook 'Sunday TVNZ' until we see you again next Sunday.
