Sad, sad, day for all her fans all over the world, and certainly devastating for her, when she lost that most beautiful voice. But she proved what a great person she was when she picked herself up, dusted herself off & started all over again. I love you, Julie Andrews.
I too was saddened when J.A. was forced to retire from singing, but even if she hadn't had that botched throat surgery, she might still not be able to sing like she used to; after all, she's in her eighties.
I’m so grateful that I was born during the same time that you walk on this earth! You are simply outstanding in every way! Thank you for filling our lives with your extraordinary talent!
actually, she's been around since the 1950s when she starred in a 1957 version of Cinderella for TV (which was seen by more people at that time than any other TV broadcast, up to that point), as well as the 1956 Broadway hit of My Fair Lady.
Okay, who was the one person that gave this a thumbs down? LOL.....Julie is one of the all time multi-talented greats who also managed to raise five kids and hold her marriage to Blake Edwards together at the same time, not an easy feat! Bravo Julie! Thanks for sharing~
I was BLESSED to see Julie in Concert in 1992 and it was one of the highlights of my life!!! She was Freaking AMAZING!!! She sang songs from Camelot, My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music, Victor/Victoria..in front of a whole Orchestra! She just KILLED and I will NEVER forget it!! She is SUBLIME!!!!! xoxoxoxoxo
This woman. I love her so much. When I was a Freshman in high school, she was directing 'The Boyfriend' (the first broadway show she was ever in, fun fact!) across the street from our school. She had a press conference/they were dedicating the street to her for her duration of her stay type of thing so our ENTIRE CLASS played hookie and went to see her. I was up close enough to where she was standing that when I waved to her, SHE WAVED BACK! Like-highlight of my life right there.
One thing for sure...Julie did reveal her soul to us all...and we were all captured by her amazing singing and acting! Julie you are best of everything!
Remarkable human being. So positive, so talented, and classy. The world is a better place because of her. I’m sure her family were grateful to her sacrificing her young years to support the family. Xoxo
Her first professional singing tutor 'Lillian Styles Allen' had it right telling her "The amateur works until he can get it right, the professional works until he cannot go wrong." BRAVO Juile we love you and your contribution!
Dame Julie Andrews connect the name to iconic roles Mary Poppins, and Maria among other UNFORGETTABLE roles and you have a legend in her own right. an English Rose who still graces us with her class and extraordinary multi talent and SO loved as a GREAT SUPER Hollywood star, there is only one word to describe her SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS. ♥
Started reading Home Work. Cannot wait to see Julie in Chicago in Dec. I love Mary Poppins & Sound of Music but my fav of hers is Thoroughly Modern Millie. I just love her!💗
Julie Andrews.... they don't make them like her anymore. Such a talent, CLASSY and beautiful and never reserved the dubious right to use vulgarity in her performing as so many now rely on and cop out to these days. She IS my all time favorite!!
I swear the word ageing is not in Julie's dictionary and she is so positive too. she had a really rough childhood but chooses to focus on the wonderful things in her life.
Same thing happened to me I sang all my life and started getting hoarse etc. I can't sing anymore - I sang all her songs I loved her singing - it's so sad when you can't sing like you used to . She's a beautiful person inside and out.
JUMPIN JESUS CHRIST it was just a puff piece that I posted thinking it was a nice piece I NEVER expected ANY THING LIKE THIS, wow it has just blown up :-D

One can hear rough edges to her speaking voice one never heard before. Not only the operation, but age, I guess. If she’d been 100% lucky, she’d not have had an unhappy childhood, she’d not have been passed over for both My Fair Lady and Camelot, both of which were as if written w her (& her voice) in mind. But she was certainly tough, determined & incredibly gifted... & knew to take advantage of these character qualities.

It is magnificent that Julie will be awarded the AFI Award in 2020. Most deserving. About time the AFI awarded a future award to Kim Novak!
It's sooo late!! They must have given it to her much before. 😌 Actually, AFI is honoured because of her getting it!!
God bless her!
