Isn;t julie andrew the most lovely woman ever in this whole so called hollywood scene. She is so real, so warm, so genuine, so sincere, so humble, so smart, so graceful.....everytime i see her i just wish i could give her a big warm hug! Despite all the songs and stories and all that which made the sound of music so good, she was the one who made it great.
It still blows me away that her first film ever was Mary Poppins in 1964, she wins Best Actress at Golden Globes and Academy Awards for Poppins, then in 1965 she makes Sound of Music - her performances in both films are unbelievable and timeless - she's a gift to every generation.
She practically is royalty. Made a Dame by the Queen at Buckingham Palace and then was among a group of invited guests for the Queen's diamond jubilee party.
I love that when I watch Julie Andrews being interviewed she always comes across well and genuine. it's ashame nowadays we have celebrities that will come and go but demand so much from shows for interviews whereas she looks like she's enjoying the tribute.
My mum taught me all these songs......brilliant ...I taught my kids to sing with these songs....now im teaching my 4 yr old granddaughter.......These songs will last forever..
This movie came out when I was 1yr old and hasn't been outdone yet!! Still my all time favorite! Julie Andrews you where my first "girl-crush" and you are still as beautiful as ever! Thanks Robin, Diane and GMA Staff for a wonderful interview!
@@whoisj3ss born 1935-10-1. (From the "SOM 50" mentioned, I presume this was made sometime in 2015 or soon after, as SOM was '65.) So yes, she would have been 80 (or 79) here. (And yes, she looks very well!)
Dame Julie Andrews she brings such happiness to me I cry almost every time i watch her on tv not to mention watching the movie she really is a WORLD TREASURE!!. Mrs Andrews thank you for the many years of enjoyment thru your music and acting . wess fr canada
The greatest gift Julie Andrews gave me years ago is that I learned to speak English without any experience of getting out of the country where I live. She has also filled me with the joy of listening to musicals. Dame Julie will turn 80 this October; she still looks so amazing and adorable. Let me express my thanks to her from Japan. I would not be writing this comment in her language without her guidance through her music and films.
Of course Julie did not teach me English directly. I happened to see "The Sound of Music" on TV back in May 1986, when I found her just amazing and I wanted to speak English just like her. I kept seeing the film and listening to the album of "My Fair Lady" hundreds of times. I was able to expand my English vocabulary with her songs and films. This is how I have acquired the English language.
My mother, who was raised in China, also had the pleasure of learning English from the Sound of Music. Even though she sometimes grew tired of the film because the teacher replayed the dialogue scenes over and over again until everybody understood what the actors were saying, she still loved the songs. Today, it's still one of her favorite films, and it's also one of my favorite things ;)
And you could hardly have a better example; her diction is the best I know of. (And your English is fine, too. What country _are_ you in?) For French, try Mireille Mathieu; not sure who to say for German - Nana Mouskouri is probably a good bet (but then she'd do for French, Spanish, Italian, too - even Welsh, Malagasy, Taiwanese …)
@@sarahbennett5376 , absolutely! As in genuine goodness never ages; natural born talent remains forever creative; the home of our heart is our eternal soul, and it contains the only set of eyes we have with everlasting 20/20 vision. There is more. Shall I continue?!!
I don't care what anyone has to say... Apart form Gone With The Wind, The Sound Of Music was, is, and most likely will ever be the best, most enchanting, well made movie Hollywood had ever come up with. One of the rare moments when Art really does inspire.
How wonderful..I am going to watch the special ..I loved the movie and I was in Austria in 1973 and I saw where it was filmed too.. I am a Abc so i love watching all the tv shows and specials from ABC.
I grew up watching the Sound of Music more times than any Disney movie out there lol. It's my parents' favorite movie after all and I'm also passing it on to my future kids for sure.
Dreamed always can see Julie Andrews n person in my lifetime! I loved her since 1965 when i was in grade school... now am 3 scores & 8 already by GOD's grace.. trusting it is possible Wow!!!
Indeed it is saddening that Dame Julie can't sing like she used to, but even if she'd never had that botched throat surgery in the late 90s, she still might not be able to sing like she once did since she's now in her eighties.
This is one of my favorite movies in which Julie.Andrews starred. She had.an.amazing singing.voice. I 10 when Sound of Music was first shown @ the movies!
A movie I have always obsessed with, no-one I knows has ever watched it but I'm like yh I absolutely love, even if I'm the now younger age of viewers :D xxxxx
No, no-one you know would have _admitted_ to having watched it. I'm sure some of them had. (Bit like, no respectable teen in the seventies would admit to liking ABBA. But they did.)
I love The Sound of Music! I first watched the movie when I was only 4 years old in Hong Kong. I've been watching it at least once every year since then. I think everybody in the world knows the song Do Re Mi....Nobody can play the role of Maria like Julie Andrew. I like Lady Gaga, but I much prefer Julie Andrew's version of The Sound of Music. Julie Andrew is such a beautiful woman who just had this incredibly beautiful voice. And if only my grandma were like Julie Andrew, I would too hold on to her hand and not let go, just like Dianne did...
I wanted to become a nun my whole life and saw this movie twice the second time changed my mind about being one because I realized that my love for god can only go so far but the love of a person for the rest of ur life and family is what I wanted.
Yes, it's "would you like tea", isn't it 🙂. Though she _does_ use the American intrusive d sometimes, especially when singing. (Say a T as a D, especially when in the middle of a word or phrase.)
Isn't Julie Andrews the best! There are no words I can put together to say how much this lady means to me! I just want to sit and have a cup of tea and conversation with her! Love you Dame Julie Andrews!
when lady Gaga sang the song I was like no no no no one can sing it good only Juli andrews can not even I can sing better than that and I've been in choir for 7 years of my 14 year life
Is there a way we can see the special video on youtube or any other site?? I missed it when it aired and I still can't find in on the internet. Please help it's the best movie i have ever seen and I am so grateful to know this wonderful movie please help me :) thanks
She often uses that answer in interviews. It is a bit of a clumsy analogy but I think she means parents or grandparents would introduce kids to Mary Poppins and later the Sound of Music around the age of 7. Maybe it doesn't happen so much now but there are still lots of parents (and grandparents) that have childhood memories of these classics and like to pass the love on.
Sería bueno saber porqué no podemos, como con todos los músicos famosos, escuchar las grabaciones de la señora Andrews, cual es la razón? solo es poniendo dinero después del dinero que ella recibió con cada éxito?.-
wow it is hard to believe she is 79 here. Typically the MILF title only endures into the late 40s maybe early 50s for some women but I think Julie has rewrote the definition.
Do you mean mannish? I don't think she is, although playing Victor/Victoria didn't help. Julie always seemed to be a bit of a tomboy but she was pretty in her 20s, gorgeous in her 30s and classy always.
Did anyone say lip job? I am not against plastic surgery or anything - just noted that her lips look vastly different now than it did 50 years ago. Or is that signs of ageing??
What happens to tooth show as we age? Julie Andrews's teeth were huge and clearly visible in the early clips. Now, though, they look like they just don't show. Cosmetic dentistry should address this. Julie has CLEARLY had very good work but it hasn't addressed this.

She is the real British Royalty.
George Hatton, amen!

Julie Andrews is too iconic. Can she just live forever please?

That ONE & only VOICE! Julie Andrews is pure beauty inside & out!
Love Julie Andrews so much she's always postive and keeps smiling love her voice I love everything about her
Find me one person who can find a flaw in this woman's manner. The epitome of good grace.

She did not want to let go of Julie's hand at all haha Can't blame her
at 80 she is still beautiful...
Wow! She does not look like she is 80!
Meg Scroggins I thought she was like 65

I could watch Julie Andrews just talk and enjoy it, as I do. But then she sings, and it's marvelous. Isn't it?
It's so sad that she can't sing anymore
She can sing the hell out of old man river she said it herself
she does not age at all!!! such a legend!!!
Me and my mom happen to know Julie Andrews and she is such a sweet and such a down to earth young lady. God bless her:)
Young ?!

Julie Andrews is not being called Queen for nothing. I mean, she's PERFECT, absolutely PERFECT!! Case closed!!
Shes 80? She looks 50 to me.
Kawaii Senpai 7 [Hiatus] Julie has a young, invigorating spirit! That’s what keeps her looking great.

I grew up on this movie and Marry Poppins love Julie Andrews
Still love her
Julie had the most pristine, sweetest, most beautiful singing voice! What a shame she cannot sing like that anymore.
Indeed it is saddening that Dame Julie can't sing like she used to, but even if she'd never had that botched throat surgery in the late 90s, she still might not be able to sing like she once did since she's now in her eighties.
