- The Can am Outlander Max 650 DPS is one of the best platforms in the industry. With a comfortable 2 up seat you can bring a partner and the rear rack still allows for a decent amount of storage with the large box for touring. The LinQ system offers tons of options to outfit this ATV for hunting, fishing or trail riding and the Scout is designed with this in mind and can be transformed from a full expedition ATV to a stripped down trail machine in under 10 minutes.

It definitely shows when someone puts sufficient thought into a build. Well done!
Thank you very much! 👊
Hands down the best Outlander build I've ever seen! So badass! Love the rear box and how it's outfitted.
Thanks for the kind words! Cheers
Now this was worth its weight in gold. Love the walk around showing all the accessories and upgrades. Sad to hear the 650 is going away. I have one for my wife and it's an absolute wonderful all round machine. Thank you for doing this video as I'm more impressed with wheelers than the sxs's.
Thank you for the kind words! 👊
Yes finally atv stuff. Instead of stupid sxs stuff. Not everyone likes sxs. But I guess money talks. Great video thanks.
It's not for lack of trying. We've just had a heck of a time getting our hands on ATVs to test this season. Looks like we'll have more ATV content in the coming weeks.
@@dirttraxtv yes they are hard to come by. Six month wait for a new Honda rubicon. Seeing more atv stuff would be great thanks. I liked this episode with the ad ons that you can get for the atvs. Anything atv would be nice. Thanks again for the video.
Love this build. I love the Max platform. I have a SXS and I miss riding an ATV
The discipline on that dog is better than most people. Wow
One of the best ATV reviews / mods I've seen anywhere. Super nice build. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you David! We appreciate the feedback. 👊🇨🇦
Just bought the tread glue and gaskets! Thanks for the Atv content! More coming is great news!!
You will be happy with both products!
What a tank! Well thought out purpose built machine, love to see it!
It's a beast!!
Thank you! Maybe we will have a chance to get out and ride together in the future! 🇨🇦
Just bought 2, great video as he points out all the details the dealer doesn’t take the time to do. For the price, the XMR-700 has everything you need.
Grew up with and still have an ATC and I agree ATV’s aren’t dead! Wish Yamaha made a 2up Grizzly!
I love my Grizzly. i put a seat box on the back and you can buy add on foot pegs for the second rider. they work well.
65,000 views... I've probably watched it 5,000 times. Thanks for the great build tips.
Thanks for watching Jim, appreciate the kind words! 👊🇨🇦
Very nice setup and well equipped machine. I’m enjoying my Outlander Maxx 1000R 2Up.
Thanks for the kind words and that awesome you are enjoying you Outlander!
Finally a 650 :) damn near bulletproof, my 2022 Outlander 650 xt has over 6000km and owned it for roughly 9 months, not one single problem with it and keeps up to almost anything, sure it doesn't accel like a 1000 but still tops out 75mph which is right up there with the 850 and 1000 :) I'm very happy with mine and love how in depth this walkaround is, it gives me ideas for more mods
650 is a great engine 👍
How do they compare to Honda? My experience is that Honda is super reliable…. Can you trust these for miles and miles in the middle of nowhere. I don’t care about power, just start every time reliability…
@@hondaman6918 7000kms on my 2022 65- and not one single problem, people that have problems with them are those who don't take care of them, they don't inspect anything they usually are the ones that breakdown on the trails, mostly Can Am's because the majority of Can Am owners are using them for one thing only and that's mudding mostly, I had a 2011 G1 Outlander 800r guess what I was always in mud and it was always broken, seals, axles, diffs ect, my 2022 650 I just ride it, I inspect it on every ride never had problems with it, inspected my belt at 6500kms and replaced it before it breaks on the trails, most people don't even take the time to open the cover they just break it on the trail, too those who think Can Am's aren't as reliable as Honda's or w.e else they really need to learn more about them, My fathers 2002 Honda Rubicon spend more time at the shop then on the trails or at home, the dash would blink all the time, it would sputter and my father ended never really using it on the trails because it wasn't as reliable as he thought, not all of them we're like that but it just shows some are good and some are bad
@@outtybeastjr3653 thanks for the feedback
, Can am has some nice looking quads, but I hear they are always broken like Polaris, glad to hear there’s more to that story.
@@hondaman6918 I started out on a Honda, then went with Suzuki's then went with Can Am in 2011 and never looked back, they aren't as bad as what people think, my first one was always broken then in 2019 I found a 2003 Bombardier Ds650 Baja with extremely low hours, replaced all the wearing parts and rode that for about a years, never had a problem then went without a ATV for about a year and wound up buying my 2022 Outlander 650 xt in January and put lots of kms on it, not one single problem, I love all machines I just find that Can Am has many good sides to them, power, comfort ect its all there, the biggest problem with the outlander is taking the plastics off to access stuff like the belt, oil filter ect, its a pain lol
Elka shocks are awesome! Got me a custom a set for my rzr. Swapped out the factories for an Elka set and wow what a massive difference! The customer service is top tier too! Highly recommend!
Love the ELKA’s!!!!!!! 🇨🇦
Great job 👍🏻
Thank you! 👊
This video should have had a warning label that it may cause money spending. Just saying. Otherwise it's a VERY cool machine! Now I have to go online and find these parts.
Christmas is just around the corner! 🎄
Super sweet atv, he did it right. This is one of the best real world builds I’ve seen. Love it!
Wow, thank you for the kind words! 🇨🇦
Awesome machine now it’s time to get a dirty
It got dirty a couple hours after the episode was recorded…. Super Impressed with the finished product
Never cared for SxS's, until my parents bought a RZR Trail 50". I was amazed by the places it could still go. It goes every my Grizzly goes. I liked it so much, I bought one for myself, lol.
You got to have that “old” guy when you rid away from the modern conveniences they think of all the stuff!!! Lol awesome bike.
Lol, thanks Adam!
This is insane!! Take my money.
All kidding aside, i have an 850 and love the ideas presented
Thank you! 👊
What an amazing build! Love it!
Much appreciated! Thanks for watching
Ho-Lee FAWK! That is one sweet ride!
Thank you! 👊
@@terratechoffroad9665 I just bought a '22 Outlander Max XT 650! I am going to slowly kit it out similar to your ride--thank you for the inspiration!
@@peterray5935 That’s awesome! Glad we could inspire your build!
Great video. A lot of great ideas for my atv. Happy to see atv videos. Not a fan of the SXS for fun. Great to use for work.
We are glad you enjoyed the video!
outlander 650 is fantastic i love mine
I’m not a Can-Am guy but that is a nice build. I’d hate to see the price tag though.
Dalton is a good company to deal with. They don't oversell or over price.
We moved a year ago and after, realized they are literally 1km up the street from us.
I prefer atvs as well but I ride with a few guys who are sxs guys that range for 3k junkers to well over 35k and all I can say is every machine has its place. And the things these new machines can do is un real. They may be expensive but they are worth the money if you have it.
Great episode
Enjoyed the vid I liked how you said go into the trail not around left or right I see so many make shift round about and the middle is just fine heheh I was waiting on the wrap comment it looks good.
Everything looks good only thing missing was the riders helmet I figure must be a good one since I didn’t see a windshield thank god. Enjoyed the vid thank you
Awesome practical advice.
Glad you enjoyed the video 👊
Love the build…..personally would have gone with at least an 850. I decided to get the inreach mini 2 because i use a couple of different units….the Rino for mountain sledding and Tread for SXS. Also, with inreach built in you sacrifice GPS system coverage/accuracy, but I do understand the convenience of all in one. Thanks for some of the product tips….I did not know about the Glue Tread!! My son just bought the 1000 XMR, .which is a totally off the chain machine, but so is the price……but I like the 13 inch clearance, the snorkel kit, ability to support larger tires, and the power is there if you need it. The front and rear lockers are a must in my view…..makes all the difference in snow and mud. My Defender XMR rarely gets stuck with the lockers engaged. I do miss the ATV like a lot of your commenters have stated, but we often have 3 onboard and go back country camping, so sxs is necessary or would be dishing out a lot more money for a couple ATV’s. I bought my sxs in 2020 before prices when through the roof, so lucky that way.
Thanks for watching. Glad you got something from the walk around. And yes the Gluetread is a must carry in my opinion 🇨🇦
Atv for me. I'm 21, personally I think sxs are way over priced for what they are. I'd rather have a nice used Ram Power wagon for about the same money. Atv can fit almost anywhere. Also I also like the Rokon bikes as well.
I have a 570 with CVTech clutch but wish I’d gotten a 650. Great build.
Thank you! 👊
Awesome ATV, great video!
Thank you!
Badass machine looks amazing 🔥🔥 I love mine
Thank you! 👍
Would love to hear more about where you atv... How much of a hassle is it to go accross the border with the atv?
No issues crossing the Canadian / US border with a ATV or SxS for personal use if the registration is in your name.
However we have seen and heard of issues at the border with company owned vehicles crossing without the proper import paperwork.
I have the SXS but I enjoy riding my Polaris 1000 the most. One item I added was a fire extinguisher, just in case.
Guys the snatch straps were a great idea for any one because they do not damage any vehicle. I use then on my 4x4 in central Idaho when we get stuck in the snow,
I like this style video
Thank you 👍
Atv's still have a solid spot. Side by sides are larger so to trailer you need a bigger trailer, no cars can tow a sxs im aware of and have a much bigger entry price point
Atv is for me, not sxs. If you haven’t ridden a new modern atv your missing out. Yes there crazy money, but not as bad as the sxs market.
Same here. Started on three-wheelers and in my mix-30's purchased my own quad(s).
Cfmoto isnt near as crazy as a can am, you can get a 1000 for the price of a dps 650 lol
The money is crazy, but the interest is even crazier. That’s the only thing holding me back
I love my Ultrahook! You need the rope guard. Montana with InReach for the win.
Yup!👊
Great video I’ve had a 650cc since 2006 . Been bullet proof. Would love to see a follow up of this machine on the trail. Also more info of how the elkas perform on trail. Been looking for a gently used 650 max now for wife and myself to ride together with kids
Norman,
Thanks you watching! We don’t have any new footage of the bike but it has been hitting the trails recreationally and commercially and we are super happy with the build.
As for the Elka shocks they are game changer on this platform. When we built this bike we but together two others that are identical with the exception of the Elka shocks and Method Wheels.
We use all the machines as instructor bikes for military and law enforcement off road driver training and my partners don’t even want to ride my bike because they hate getting back on theirs with the factory shocks.
The machine is really planted and predicable in all trail conditions but really shines as the speeds increase and the terrain gets gnarly.
Good luck on your search for a 650 MAX, you won’t t be disappointed🇨🇦
That machine is just what I would want ..it looks great..only question is how much $$$$$did he spend on that build..hate to think of it but I’m sure it was well worth it..
Hmmmm, no response.... probably close side x side price. 😏
Don't have the total numbers for you.
How much would it cost to build this but with 1000? ty for answers :)
This video showcases so many excellent build ideas! To run 30’s does the outlander need the front AND rear s3 arms or only the forwards? I didn’t see or hear anything regarding the rears but as I’m plotting out my own Max build I would love the input on control arms! In your experiences with s3 have you had them install new bushings or have you had good luck reusing the stock?
Thanks!
We were able to run the 30’s using the S3 fronts only with a minor “XMR” style plastic trim which basically takes the sharp edge off the bottom of the flares. We used the factory bushings and they worked great. 👊
Thanks for the video! Love what you guys do, and this is one of my favourite ones! Can you tell me where he got those canvas bags? Looking for some like that.
Thanks man. Not sure but I bet Mike will reply to this and tell you. Stay tuned...
For US customers we recommend Blue Ridge Overland Gear and for those in Canada check out Adventure Trail Gear 🇨🇦
I want one just like it.
very nice bike
Thank you! We are glad you enjoyed the build. 🇨🇦
I’m 52 and still ride a quad and have no interest in a SXS…..as well as my friends all have quads
Go for it Ron!
One life live it mate,❤❤❤❤❤
ATVs ain't dead, just the factory workers who took the Culljuice 🤣
I put the Tusk heated hand grips on my outlander 570 and they work great for 1/4 the cost
Glad to hear you are happy with your choice, I’m not familiar with those. We have had great reliability out of the factory units and never had a failure. Who better to design a heated grip than Ski-Doo. Also as stated in the video the factory grip is very slim and most people don’t even notice they are a heated grip
Did you have to use the S3 extended trailing arms to clear 30’s in the rear? I just bought an Outlander max 850 and love the build, thinking about doing some of your mods.
Mark,
Thanks for watching and that’s cool you are going to try some of the mods from the Scout!
We were able to clear the 30’s using just the front S3 A-arms and a slight XMR fender trim which just rounds the sharp edges off.
S3 advertises that the kit will fit up to a 32.
Very nice ATV, I really like the soft recovery gear, I loved the video and enjoyed watching, but it is the dream build when money is no object. I do find that this channel is basically a platform to sell OEM products, you basically discredit the aftermarket products, but a lot of people (most actually) can't afford these things. I did enjoy this video and you showcase a lot of great ideas, but when you say $200 for a mount is not much money, I can't agree, yes you can use your snow mobile gear, but again if you can afford all that gear for your snow mobile you agree not concerned with $$$$,
The Up North Technologies ATV plate retails for $199 USD which is definitely more that a ratchet strap but having the extra fuel properly secured to the vehicle riding extreme trails is money well spent.
My CForce 800XC basically is the same thing half the cost and I beat the crap out of it. Has held up just as well as my buddies 2 Canams.
Here in Ontario the 2022 MSRP on the Outlander Max 650 DPS is $11,699 (after a $500 price increase) and a quick check on available 2022 CForce 800XC’s shows a 2022 MSRP of $12,999 CDN.
I can see why you are quite happy with yours if you only paid $5849.00 for it!
Awesome build for sure, but with the larger tires I would have done an 850!
The 850 is a great engine as well but with the Dalton clutch kit the machines power band is almost identical to stock even with the big meats
The S3 Power Sports +2 Arms are not on the parts list. Are they front and rear? or just fronts? Curious. Really like this build.
The Scout is equipped with fronts only but rears are available as well from S3
How did you choose canam over yamaha or Suzuki?
A number of things -
1) Love the Can am brand
2) Performance
3)Reliability
4) Manufactured 2 up chassis
5) Dealer network
6) Availability of factory options
7) Strong aftermarket support
8) The 650 twin is my favourite engine
Buddy are you running 14x7 or 14x8 beadlocks?
I got a new raptor been riding for years and its sad when there is a war on dirtbikes on the trail and people say they do damage, they need to see how bad the sxs have destroyed the trails plus all the trash they haul and throw in the woods
I would like to see you guys to do a video on a can am outlander xmr 570 2023 please and thank you.
What's the Side by Side belt part number?
This sounds like a great upgrade once the original belt wears out.
Give your local dealer a call. I have been told the part number has recently changed
Waiting and listening for parts list, specifically, what kinda tires are those? AND I'M tired of rope breaking. Like pulling people out with a piece of spegattii
Tires are a MRT (Moto Race Tire) Crawler XG 30x10x14
They don't rub, even without a lift? 🤔
@@ildr2010 The machine doesn’t have a lift but it is equipped with S3 Powersports +2 inch A-arms in the front. This moves the tire forward 2 inches providing the required clearance. We also did a minor XMR style trim to the leading edge of the lower plastic which rounds off the edge. S3 advertises that the Outlander and Renegade can run 32’s with this mod.
What is the length of that tiger tail? I see afraid knot has two different lengths available. Thanks
The Scout is equipped with the 32 inch version.
Do you guys know what’s the part number for the shifter lock?
No windshield for winter? I find it cold on the neck without a shield.
I have never run a windshield on any of my builds due to the terrain we ride, so yes you have to dress accordingly in the winter months.
I always wear a balaclava to protect my neck and for long rides or really cold days switch my helmet out for a full face set up with a shield.
The hand guards and heated grips are worth their weight in gold when the weather turns sour. They provide a level of protection and warmth but don’t prevent us from riding technical terrain that would damage a full fairing setup.
Thanks for watching!
How long can you ride an ATV non-stop, for example, can you ride 30 miles without stopping. I want to buy one.Anyone answer me. Thanks ,,,one more question,,,Which ATV makes the least noise
The length of the ride depends on the terrain. You can ride all day on a hard packed dirt road and feel pretty good, then we have a trail we use for training and it is physically draining because of the rocky technical terrain. Speeds very between a crawl in the rocks to a whopping 15kms and hour in the “open” sections.
As for sound most 4 stroke ATV’s equipped with a stock exhaust are pretty quite.
@@terratechoffroad9665 Thank you very much for your answer, I couldn't find this answer on google or youtube.
Where in Ontario can you learn to be an atv mechanic and be able to do all these mods yourself?
Great question! Let's see what the community has to offer on this one...
Hello, how many miles can you travel with a full tank? - Chill driving on an asphalt road.
I’m not sure what that range would be as we only travel asphalt section between trails. In 2WD I can only assume it would be 100 kms +
It maybe me but it looks like your tires need alignment. Left front leans out at the top. Right front leans inat the top.
That’s just the way the bike was parked. After the A-arm install was complete the bike was properly aligned.
Excellent content and dialogue but the camera is so shaky
Thanks for watching! 👍
Atv is more for me, If I could afford a fully enclosed 4 seat sxs then I would never ride an atv during cold weather
Why 650 vs 700? I wish I had a rear winch,especially when I run with a plow in winter.
This is a 2022 and was ordered in November 2021 prior to the 700 singles release.
😎👍
Survival kit should include a life straw.
Thank you for the comment. I do carry additional items not discussed in the video. For hydration I do carry a Life Straw as well as water purification tablets. Also our Element Fire Extinguisher and bear spray are also on board if need be.
@10:36 the rack extender wish it had a mesh for smaller items so they don't fall out. It is only good for larger items. I bought it for my oxygen tank to mount. Can am makes a basket with the mesh style and would be a good idea if can am used the mesh sides on this rack extender as well. Im using bungee cords for now.
What was the performance with the 30's on there?
I absolutely love the 30’s on this platform paired with the S3 +2 A-arms.
For an everyday work / adventure machine it has the perfect stance and the added ground clearance is awesome on the Max chassis and really helps with obstacles and deep ruts.
The power / speed is very close to stock when paired with the Dalton Spring Kit.
The tires are considerably larger and heavier than stock so some type of clutch upgrade is required for not only performance but reliability.
Right away the tire swap from the factory 26’s to the 30’s gives you an extra 2 inches of clearance under the bike and this is really noticeable on the front skid plate as it takes very few hits.
While I am a fan of modifying as budget allows a set up like this should be saved up for and done all at once so that you are happy with the performance and reliability of the upgrade.
Cheers and thanks for watching 👊
Square tire set up. 30” tires. I won’t what width. A standard front or rear wide tire
Camera man needs a stand.
I like it. I like tires and build but why 650?
650 is an awesome engine.
@@dirttraxtv i mean it has enough power? You dont need more?
As stated in the video we have seen the 650 stand up to serious long term commercial use. If a chassis and engine can handle 8 years of constant abuse and still be running strong when it heads off to auction then that’s the engine I want to spend my dollars on!
Where can I buy the camo wrap?
It is by Mario Designs
I have a 650 Outlander Max DPS XT and I have to be honest, I see no reason to upgrade to an 850. With my wife and I we hit 60+ mph. Who needs to go faster than that?
650 is a great engine.
I have an 86 bayou 185
I was going to buy 1 of those. Compares with my 05 250 Ozark
I would buy a Can Am when they put diff locks on them.
The new 22-23 850 and 1000 have true diff lock
What would a build like this cost minus the 650 DPS machine ?
There are many variables in a build like this such as model selected, factory options, aftermarket accessories and a big factor with so many modifications is labour if you are not able to complete the build on your own.
Sure a 650 will get it done but..... why the hell not build a 1000 if you're going to this extent and those size tires? It is very nice though !
Like I said in the video. Reliability and longevity and the 650 has the right power band for were we ride. I have seen lots of commercial units survive years of heavy use and the engine is still running strong when they get sold at auction.
Interesting fact but the 650 actually has the best HP to CC ratio in the can am line up!
Sucks they ditched the 450, 570 and 650 🙄
Sorry to say but clutch kits are waste of money in the Can-Am world for the Outlanders and the Renegades. He should've invested into a CV-Tech. But this is a really nice utilitarian based rig.
Thanks for the feedback Mike. We always leave the stock clutching alone if we stay within 2 inches of the stock tire size on the new set up. When we go larger than that we address the increased diameter and weight of the package with clutch modifications or replacement. As for the Dalton set up on this rig we are really satisfied with the results. We have built 3 of these machines now with the spring mod and they engage and provide the same power delivery as the stock machine which is pretty impressive on 30’s. 🇨🇦
@@terratechoffroad9665 Just now seeing this reply, not trying to knock the build in any way just simply stating what I know. The CV-Tech would help you put down more power to the rear wheels. Definitely made my machine crazy. I am definitely going to steal some inspiration from your build.
Where’s your location
ILL STICK WITH MY OVERLAND. ALL THAT IS STANDARD AND CHEAPER!
The tires alone are $600 a peice, not including the rims 😬
Matt,
Yes, the tires are expensive but as they say you get what you pay for.
I have had a rim failure with these tires and had to run 20 miles out of the bush on a very rocky technical trail with a baseball size hole in the inside face of the rim.
The tire was unscathed and was remounted on a new rim and is still being used as a primary tire. There aren’t many tires I would feel comfortable doing that with.
The $600 price you quote seems expensive? Not sure if that’s CDN or USD but a quick search shows them listed for $345 USD which would convert to $466 CDN.
The tires on the CDN Can-am site run between $300-$450 each so they aren’t far off of a factory replacement.
Terrible shaky camera, wow. Hard to watch
One piece in pakistani
A bike has two wheels.
Depends where you live I suppose?
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) definition - A all-terrain vehicle (ATV), also known as a light utility vehicle (LUV), a quad bike or quad (if having four wheels), is a vehicle that travels on low-pressure tires, has a seat that is straddled by the operator, and has handlebars.
Different parts of the world use different terms to describe the same machine such as a Lorry in England is a Transport Truck in North America.
We live in Canada and the term “bike” is freely used to refer to an ATV but we also call a Hero or Hoagie Sandwich a Sub, a case of beer is a 24 and if we are going riding it’s commonly referred to as “going out for a rip”. 🇨🇦
@@terratechoffroad9665 it's much simpler than that. Bike is short for bicycle (root bi which means two). You don't have to over complicate it.
Lol “linq Q”
