Nice video, very thorough. I got the 650 DPS in February this year because they had one in stock. I wish I would have waited for the XT for the painted plastics. Let dirt fly was also a big factor in me going for the 650 over 570. Get your grease gun ready and check to make sure your sway bar bolts are tight, mine were lose from factory. @@Chris-kw6fs I got the same letter and my dealer replaced both of mine. The quality control was put on the back burner it seems. Could be covid related, no idea.
I just bought the same machine but a 2022. I don’t know if it’s the same everywhere but here in Canada the 650 xt doesn’t come with the digital key for 2022. It’s the same as my 570 outlander. I’ll see how long the brake pads last but I still have the original pads on my 570 and it has 12000 Km’s. I guess I don’t use the brakes much. Kind of regret not paying the extra $1000 for the 850. On paper the 650 stock has 14Hp more than the 570. I guess I was expecting 30% more Hp to be quite a bit more powerful than my 570. It is faster but not much considering my 570 is a 2 up and heavier. Still breaking it in so I am not fully pushing the new one so we’ll see after it loosens up a bit. Overall I like it. It’s not a smooth as my 2up but we’ll see after I get my Elka shocks. 2up also has 12 inch wheels so I guess that gives more rubber to smooth it out.
They perk up a bit after break in my brother bought an 850 and on first ride felt like my 650. Now that it's broken in night and day difference 850s are spicy units but I'm still very happy with the 650.
The 650 in Canada did come with the desk key system, the fact that you didn't get one just means that you have one of the covet bikes with the chip issue. Shortage happened all across the product lines 650, 850 and 1000. Quite a few of them were produced with regular keys
Good video! I agree about the door on the storage box. I left it down one time, unfortunately, the exhaust pipe lines up with the lower left corner of the door and in about 3 minutes of riding, the exhaust will melt that corner. It’s a small thing but still… congrats on the 650. Looks just like my 1000.
I had the same thing happen to me...that latch is very finicky and someone who was riding with me stuffed their hoodie in there and closed it but alas, not fully. Melted the plastic and their hoodie zipper to the door. But you know what? Dealer covered it under warranty! Awesome!
Tell you right away, that key doesn't float, it sinks really fast. How did we find out? Well, brother drowned his 3 day old 2021 outlander Xmr 1000 and knocked the key off accidentally. Fortunately, my mighty 2021 outlander 650 Xmr towed the heavy 1000 about 5kms in dense trails, through rivers and streams, rock gardens and mud...and it towed it home without engine temps going over 97°C. That's one of the things I love about my 650, it has more than enough power.
Backwoods Gearhead I'll be sure to check that out! I did drag race the 650 Xmr vs his 1000, he had one quad length on me by the time we both hit the 105km/h speed limit (all Xmr's have their speed limited)
Just another side note, I debated between the 650 and 850. Most forums stated the 650 has tons of power, I'm not a crazy rider anyway. The 850 runs hotter and fuel economy is not as good. All the power to the 850 and 1000 guys but for me this has all I need and it seems others shared the same opinion. Even with my wife on the back. I have the XT Max.
Both are great machines polaris has a great soft ride in slow trails but feels tippy when you get aggressive. Can am is a pit stiffer but feels more stable to me. I lean more towards can am but that's my personal opinion. Tight trails poarlis power steering takes the cake. It comes down to your riding style at the end of the day.
I had the max XTP 1000r, and I couldn’t stand doing maintenance, every drain and fill plugs are different sizes and it’s a pain to get to it all. And I hate how noisy the CVT is. And don’t get me started on the heat that 1000 puts off.
Great video. Looking at ordering the 650 max XT. How reliable are these machines? I know about regular maintenance, greasing and all but is this a machine that constantly needs to be worked on? I'm more of a Yamaha guy but I really like the power of the Outlander. I'm just riding forest roads and such. Not into mudding.
I have yet to have any major issue with mine. I have see people have issues on forums but I dont know how they treat their machines. Far as i can tell if you stay on top of regular maintenance they're a reliable machine like all the others head brands. One thing to keep an eye on are the factory brake pads I hear they burn up quick.
@@livinglife69 I'm not disappointed at all. Has plenty of power to whip the rear end around and with alittle persuasion can stand it up on the rear wheels.

As for the Console display, I have had some issues of it not holding in place and I see you had fun reinstalling yours. Pretty lame. I have left another comment below regarding the stock rear storage. Very bad design and mine was melted by the exhaust. I was totally not impressed with the cheapy plastic skid plates which didn't cover much anyway so I ordered a set from Iron Baltic and received them before I even had my quad. A bit fun to install but Billa Vista has a most excellent video for this despite a couple of small changes since he did his video. I highly recommend his channel for Outlander owners. Question, where did you purchase the Aluminum Shifter Plate from? Did it help? I don't usually watch 26 minute vids but you were entertaining and seem like a great dude to have a couple of brewskies with. I am subscribed!
I got mine on amazon sorry for the delay on the response. It shifts slightly better still have to do the wiggle now and again. Easy to install but it's still mounted to plastic.
Hello Backwoods Gearhead, I'd think these V-Twins would be smoother engines than same displacement one cylinder engines. Yet I can imagine manufactures have made substantial improvements to smooth out the single cylinder models. One of the reasons I'm leaning towards a CanAm. Do you have experience in this regard?
The canam is definitely a smooth runner. I've played with single cylinder machines that are also smooth. The new machine these days are pretty smooth runners. If your shopping for brand new machine go off your riding style or how you plan on using it. I can say for canam they are good work machines and are more of a sporty fun utility quad in my opinion.
My XMR 650 came with two keys. Normal and performance. Maybe that’s an XT thing, but why? Same engine. It also makes no sense that the XT comes with a winch, but I had to pay extra to have one mounted on the XMR.
I have the 2020 outlander max 650 , my front sway bars screws were gone after the first ride. I guess they were not installed properly from the manufacturer. I ORDERED MINE WITH THE FACTORY SKID PLATE which has no hole to access the front diff. drain plug, can am should have it in their aluminum factory skid plate. I like the bike but I find it hard to service it, basically you have to dismantle everything to work on it . I also find that the rear storage box is cheap plastic and so is the 125 liter rear cargo box. For the money can am could do a better job.
Is this as wide as the polaris where you feet rest? That is something I don't like about the belt-driven 4 wheelers. Frankly I wish they would get rid of the belts.
The foot wells are about the same for foot room. Canam is wider how your legs come down do to the belt drive being on the side. Polaris isnt as wide in that aspect because they put their belt drive in the rear.
Just cruising around polaris is a nice soft ride, but when it comes to riding hard racing around the can am seems to out preform. You get alot more body roll with the polaris.
