- In todays episode we sit with Fernando From Ostar Motorsports who had been in the car racing scene for the past 20+ years. Fernando talks to us about what the florida racing scene was like back in the early 2000's. Fernando had built a Blue Honda Civic Si over at Central Florida Turbo which made a name for itself by racing a Turbo Mk4 Supra and beating it by 6+ cars. This was a legendary moment that really made a statement for the Import community. Fernando also goes into detail about some of the tools that were used back in the day before technology advanced into what it is today.

Great episode. So many throwback memories kicked in listening to this. FMU, 440cc, Safc , NOPI, fast lane at Orlando speedworld etc etc.
IDK how this doesn't have more views. I could listen about OG Honda stories for days
I remember watching his Blue Civic SI race on youtube when UA-cam was first created. It was insane to see back then. Coming from reading Super Street, Import Tuner, Honda Tuning magazines to seeing actual moded cars in action on the computer screen. You had to be there! CFT FTW!!!
Hands down one of my favorite interviews on this podcast. I loved that Si.
NOPI was the chit. My first ever time seeing cars drift. Cars barely kissing the walls. Awesome event.
I appreciate your introduction about who he is because for some of us who ain't from USA most of your guests just start talking then we have to do research. Awesome episode 👏
I’m from Maryland and i remember watching that video in high school lol CFT blue civic an def didn’t know you thought it was there’s. It was just me, inline pro, n tempest back then for Md Civic’s.
I'm Maryland born and raised myself. Where are you from in MD? I've lived all over from PG county, Anne Arundel, Queen Anne's, Caroline County, Talbot County, Baltimore City, and currently Harford County
@highpsiguy4085 same here all over but mostly tri County area, southern md, even lived on the shore for a few years.
It’s always nice to realize you were “part of” the car(scene) in the era when it was “pioneering” what was being done (and rare). No one was doing nothing, no blue-prints so trial & error was the only option. I I get those feels in other aspects of life sometimes too (non-car related). It’s only NOW that you see what was done before is now the “norm” we know today…..your comment got me out on here reminiscing a lil……
@Onlineghost2ohm oh now you got me going lol. I knew in the 90s that turbo was the way to go... and was the future. And yes alot of trial n error cause we didn't have you tube and Noone had done it yet so we used factory parts mixed with handmade parts pioneering as you said. The best part was knowing you where the only one that had it and that's hard to do now days.
Damn inlinepro, gotta get him on here
Thank you for your service 🙌🏻
I could have worked for OStarMotorsport in FL back in 17. I regret not doing it cause of work but great to see this
I loved this interview graduating back in 03 this brings back memories 💪🏾 one of the best interviews yet
I remember that civic and the dsm....I still have my 92 galant vr4 from back then..😅❤❤
Man hella respect to him shoutout to Ostarmotorsports!!
That Ford GT in the background looking tough
Fernando is the fuckin man. Not a lot of guys out there like him.
Bro he and the CFT Crew where the trend setters for what we all do now!! Epic videos
Also don't forget the sn95 turbo mustang tuned by CFT making 1000hp in the early 2000's called the supra slayer. Shit was different back then. Miss those days.
Best episode yet! Definitely hit home for me and growing up. And I remember his 9's pass and him proving it with a break down video.
Great interview, Fernando is a stand up dude and a true OG.
Cant be mad at them for having to cancel the event. Shit they were amazing when you put in for a refund. Got mines done and refunded asap. Great customer service. Most places are impossible to get a refund. I can’t wait for next year. Hopefully my s5 is ready for the 9’s next event
Whats crazy is my old Neighbor was Phil. Phil held that record running 9.98 in 2008. Then he held the stock block record at sum like 8.90s or sum iirc. Its wild. He also had that Bad Black 2G Auto, that was faster on the street. That black car made me learn how advantageous the Auto was. Wish i bought that car when he sold it. Let it go for 10gs! Wild! The history here is cool shit. I rem when you broke his record, i went running over to show the vid!
The production and lighting is on point
Had the Pace Setter setup on my CRX back in the day too. Cheapest rolled tip muffler, sounded good without all the rasp.
Great interview !!!
That intro 🔥
Sick interview 🎉
bruh i be waiting for these to drop in NZ these the best podcast ong ❤🎉
Lol i got to the pacesetter exhaust and headers and just lol'ed. These were also among the first mods to my 94 ford probe GT. Lol and i bought it from the jcwhitney magazine.
Definitely makes me feel old. Good stuff!!
That was the exhaust setup for my em1 back then, lol thought I was the only 1. Sure did add some power to it no doubt about that!!!
Him not knowing what pacesetter was as a brand makes me feel old and poor at the same time haha
That was some of the parts we'd see in the jc whitney paper catalog 😂
Yeah 👍 Pacesetter was a O.G brand that you knew or not. ANSA made a nice muffler back in the day too. It’s kinda cringe when the “host” knows even less than the guest, so when he says something “cool” but host’s eyes 👀 are blank…you just feel for him, cuz over here we like “hell nah, he’s that old to know about that brand” is crazy for us but the clip goes completely flat because he couldn’t assist with the “dunk” and props (fist bump) for knowing your shit….it’s like he’s a clueless newbie who is all 👂 and no mouth 👄 because he’s not that experienced in the “street life in the 90’s” when 10 seconds was fast and slow was anything with a “teen” in it….watching the edits are ok, these longer ones exposes what he doesn’t know (a lot of stuff from many platforms) he’s quite about he can’t relate to so no 2-cents from him. Probably has no interest in 3-pedals and rowing gears too I bet…..so typical of people under 25 these days….
@@Onlineghost2ohmall my cars growing up were stickshifts then you grow up and realize driving stick is fun but winning is more fun. 😂 Go buy yourself a nice torque converter, transbrake and get back to me.
It’s so dope having them around the corner from me. Need to check them out, but need some parts first 😂
I love DSMs, I just love how a 4g63 sounds at idle, same with Evos , I bought my DSM from a 1 owner at 55K miles almost 20 years ago still have it, still under 100k miles :)
John shepherd is Someone to look up to He put dsm on the map with he's transmissions n Knowledge.👌
“Run like poop” 🤣 it be like that sometime
All the episodes have been great but this brought up memories from my teens. My integra has been in my garage for 10 years with that same wings west kit on it. One of these days I’ll put it back together. I do drive my eg civic some but Old man problems I guess
That blue cft civic is a legend
I traded my 99 Cobra in on a 2000 Si (black). Did fbo clutch, and phantom grip lsd. Still my fav of all my cars, unfortunately it was stolen in 02, so i got an Rsx type s and did fbo with port and polished head. Ran with 02 camaro ss' and ws6s, all day. . Had to get a FL5 for nostalgic reasons/track toy.
Man i remember that civic back home the people at cft bebo and them it was cray cray
Man I love this podcast
So many local ogs with history here now
I'd love to see a @werksJDM interview
I have a 1g dsm, super fun car, it’s gst, so it’s fwd, everywhere I go people are confused by what it is, super rare car nowadays
I had an fmu stock injectors b18 Ls 7 pounds and 12.1 afr and met fernando at the cft days
NOPI!!!!! JDM SEMA of the 2000’s!!!! It was awesome!!!!
I know Rolo loved Fernando cuz that son of a bitch could DRIVE, on the streets it was always that black GSR and he never failed to disappoint. Seeing this guy drive Hondas unlike many had seen then was special. Orlando racing culture in that Era was unbelievable. I got to live this, from Wednesday and Friday open test n tune days at Speedworld or late nights in the pitch black dark off corp center Blvd, to Saturday nights at Mama B’s, He and many others from Orlando who helped pioneer through the infancy of the import car culture rise are cool to see being revered after this many years for the stuff they did back then. You guys all talk about how you remember the old viral video experiences with them, and I promise experiencing it in person was better.
Dsm for the win❤❤❤❤❤
that intro boss 👌🏽 🔥🔥🔥🔥💪🏾
Wingswest, pacesetter classic
The heat near ft Benning ga well it’s ft Moore now is brutal in the summer. The humidity is nuts you’ll instantly sweat walking out the door in the am
That civic is a legend
I love the podcast but would appreciate more explanation and definition on what a lot of the terms and abbreviations mean. Like what is a DSM 1G and what note able car was it used in? or what is a 2GE...sorry for being a newb but just getting into modding my car.
Dsm is Diamond Star Motors (Mitsubishi), the 1g means first generation...not sure if you already got this answer, but just wanted to provide an answer just in case.
I had a pacesetter header too back then on my neon 😂 7:11
I'm going to tell you from experience some of these import engines were built with magic in the metal, me and my dad have had Nissan work trucks that just wouldn't die, several blew the transmissions and the way how we would keep driving them is to start out in 4 low take off in 4 th gear which was all that it had then once going about 25 shift on the fly to 4 high and get going on the highway, we hauled loads for 2 years and eventually sold it and got another one, anyone that underestimates these 80 and 90s imports is doing themselves a disservice, my first performance car was a 1985 rx7 which I still own more than 20 years later, these cars are cheap and reliable what else could you want.
CFT blue civic & black integra were no joke..
Never been a Honda guy but I like them now
Aye new intro goes hard when r we gonna see u in the go hard pod man 🎉unless they our oops👀
You need to get Yosolo on here
waiting on that alex podcast....i had a gvr4 and a 1g..the 6 bolt is the god motor.
We need the alex podcast🙏🏽
Met him at Orland Speedway that Audi is moving!
Fkn memories shew.
We need Alex interview 🔥
Real talk! Excuse my ignorance, but why don’t people break records in the G82 why only the G80? The xdrive G82 is still lighter than the G80 right? I just want to know.
That body kit was on the hot wheels car from back then
Get Sonic203 on here, they build the cleanest Hondas
A greddy power extreme exhaust the same exhaust that’s on the hero the fast and the furious supra in the Netherlands damn that civic must have sounded good 😳
Legend
Get Rick Crawford Racing with the g8 platform
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
what audi is that in the back
Ah yes crank walk 😂. I still have a slow boy racing ported 2g head in my basement from my 98tsi. Crank walked I sold both dsm's. I still miss those damn cars, my n54 is great but not raw like my AWD talon.
U wanna sell it haha I've got the bug tow work on my GST again lol
Everyone who knows, knew the rules, Imports park at Mama B’s Subs, V8’s and ‘Fuel Sluts’ across the street at the shop
I remember nopi
I think he the first dude to go to the army and get a Honda and not a hellcat lol
We purchased a 2005 Toyota Vitz once that had no heater, only cold air dial. Factory weight reduction?! 🥶
To have and not to have a heater in your car from the factory will reduce very little weight, there is no weight to a heating system in a vehicle. Now a factory vehicle with no air conditioning is factory weight reduction and less parasitic drag on the engine also so in comparison , having two stock showroom floor cars one with no heat from factory vs the same car with out air conditioning from the factory ,, the no AC car will dominate the car that came stock with no heat. But good thought process.
No air ftw no heat takes the L.
Well I was joking about the weight part. Just first I had seen a car without heater.
Bro, I hate to tell you but reading plugs is not old-school .you can ask any tuner if they read Plugs when they’re on the Dyno or at the track . they will say of course are you crazy and look you like you have 4 heads.
I’ve never heard of cars without a/c💀
you never heard of real race cars then😂
I think there was a bmw e30 or e36 that didn’t come w ac and stereo, super rare though
Back in the day like the early 90,s , a lot of car manufacturers had AC as part of an option package it did not come factory stock with air conditioning 😂😂🥵
@@eskiiedup I’m talking ab a car that comes without ac and nah I ain’t you probably neither💀
@@corymitchell2720 lowkey foul😂 it be getting hot af here in Washington too not just cold
This was a good video about time he gets some mature people on his show.. I hate when I see a spoiled brat on there that doesn't know how good he has it.. The cars these kids are racing today drive themselves just about, and then they brag about how great they are at driving.. SMH..
Dsms are still the truth! Ask me how I know...anyone else here from Maryland?
Depends lol
From VA still got some nasty AWD Autos down here lol
Boost not a thing in muscle cars? Y’all tell him how they used to take superchargers off planes and put them on V8s in the 50s-60s…
Were is Colombia? 😂
Jesus loves you, God Bless✝️
Wtf?
ask him why he left cft
And another one lol
Let’s get Ricer Miata on one of these Asap big Fan of his 💪🏾🌍🌍🔥
Facts
No bcuz rudnick hasn't done enough or know enough bout cars all he do is do shiii half azz n have to get other ppl to do the shiii the right way bcuz it definitely won't if he doing it. It's like he still the same as when he started just more cars not running
Doesn’t matter he probably knows more than you I’ve been seeing him since the beginning and to where’s he at now drifting in
Australia getting practice time an actually trying to get better either way he has a story like everyone else an is in the car community just like everyone one else don’t see a difference when I watch Adam lz I’ll rather watch Chris for me he’s more real not all good moments happen just on camera not everyone wants to put there fuck ups in there videos but Chris don’t give a fuck he’s a dope ass individual
Yeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrr
