    Just wanted to say your knots are probably the best that I have seen so far! I’m getting ready to do my first wood grain tumbler and what do you think about using a plastic straw to blow thru to make a knot? I would think you can make the knot longer or round just by pushing the ink with air. I would also think that the edges won’t be smooth,it would look like a knot. Thanks for your video

    Hey! I am sure this is all in the comments but you have a lot! Lol so just a quick go over after you do the wood grain look. You seal it. How long do you normally wait before you seal it? then put a coat of epoxy on then if your wanting a decal and then epoxy one last time? Thank you. This looks so easy or I should say you make it look easy. I enjoy this video!!!

    • @southernwondernc

      Lita Sterling hey! So I wait about 30 mins after I seal the ink. Just to make sure it is sealed and dry. And then epoxy, decal, epoxy and done. Of course depending on how thick you epoxy you may have to add more or less coats. Hope that helps

    Thanks for the tutorial. I have a couple of questions. Could you do this over powder coated tumblers or does it have to be spray painted from a can. Second question is could you use the clear coating from powder coating instead of epoxy? Lol as you can tell currently all I am doing to color my tumblers is powder coating them. Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

    • @southernwondernc
      @southernwondernc  6 років тому

      Jim Phalen oh these are great questions! Ok first one... I haven’t tried the powder coating my tumblers. So I’m not sure how that would work. I have seen that acrylic paint works just as good as the spray paint. So my thinking is that powder coating should work too! It’s always a trial and error type of thing 😆 Second question... I have only used epoxy to seal my cups. I know some that use the triple thick instead. You could try that and see if that works for you. Again I would take a day or two and play with these ideas and see what works and what doesn’t. I hope that helps a little! Happy crafting.

    When making your glitter tumblers or mugs in this case with Mod Podge and epoxy, about how long does the entire process take from start to finish in real time before you package them up and ship them off? I keep hearing different answers and I just want to be sure that I’ve let my Mod Podge and epoxy cure long enough so that it doesn’t crack or run or anything like that.

    • @southernwondernc
      @southernwondernc  6 років тому

      Maya West it really all depends on what design you are doing with glitter or mod podge. If it’s just one glitter it may take about two hours to do two layers of glitter and mod podge. Then you epoxy which can take up to 6-12 hours to dry. All in all I would say a day for it to be dry, but 3 days for the epoxy to fully cure.

      Barbara Oliver it the cup is already white then you may not have to spray paint them again. But some cups come with a silky finish and the inks do not stick to the cup. If you do a matte spray paint the inks do better, so I would spray mine over the already white cup. Hope that helps

    How long did you let it dry before you put the epoxy on? Do you use a clear spray paint in between the alcohol ink and epoxy? I tried this today and my epoxy bubbled and ruined the alcohol ink. Maybe I didn’t let it dry long enough

      Smash DePlanty I let the ink dry for a good 15mins. Then spray with a clear spray. Let that set for about 30min to an hour. That should be good enough time, then add epoxy. Do you dip your brush in alcohol before you start painting and what steps do you do after you vet the cup painted.

      Shonda Johnson no I do not dip my brush in alcohol before I paint. I spray my cup white, then just drip alcohol ink and brush! After I am done with the look I’m going for I spray the ink with a clear sealer. Then I epoxy the cup and it’s done. Happy crafting!

      Amber Johnson thank you so much. The cup is beautiful and I can not wait to start mine. What temp should it be when spraying the up white. I will have to do this outdoors

      Shonda Johnson I have spray painted a cup in 25 degree weather 😆!! Just be careful to make sure it doesn’t run. If you spray too much in one spot it will run down and have to start over.

    • @southernwondernc

      Andrea Pitre no stainless steal cup is dishwasher safe. No matter if you epoxy them or not. The dishwasher will break the seal. If you do epoxy the cup it is definitely NOT dishwasher safe. Hand wash only!!

    Can acrylic paint be used instead of spray paint?

    • @southernwondernc
      @southernwondernc  6 років тому

      Chassity Hudgins I don’t trust just the spray paint. Maybe use triple thick if you don’t want to use epoxy. I like the epoxy because the seal is thick.

      Amber Johnson I epoxy. I meant the initial white paint. I want to start it tonight so I wanted to see what your opinion would be on acrylic paint instead of spray paint. Sorry if I wasn't clear! I apologize

    • @southernwondernc
      @southernwondernc  6 років тому

      Chassity Hudgins oh I’m so sorry, I misunderstood. I have tried acrylic paint on another cup and I could not get the paint to dry without streaks in it. If you can get the paint to stay without brush marks than yes you can do it that way. Let me know if that works for you.

      Amber Johnson I would like to do the wood look tumbler but put a little piece of material cutout on it over the wood not the whole cup just a small design

    • @southernwondernc
      @southernwondernc  5 років тому +1

      alohagirl70 oh ok! Then I would cut the shape or design out first. Once you have sealed your ink on your cup then you can mod podge the image onto the cup.

    • @southernwondernc
      @southernwondernc  6 років тому +1

      Randi Nicely that has happen to me also. Not sure why it does that. I waited a while before I epoxied mine, and it went back to the brown color. It might be that you (and me) sprayed too much of the clear spray. It’s hard to say. I know some say they never seal the alcohol paints before epoxy. I have not tried that either. It’s always a trial and error type thing. Sorry I wasn’t much help.

    • @amandashoubaki9886

      when you say " I waited a while before I epoxied mine, and it went back to the brown color" do you mean that it returned to the brown color before you epoxied it or that it went back to a brown color after you epoxied it. Ive waited about 5 hours and mine is still green so I'm wondering how long to wait before I epoxy it

    • @southernwondernc
      @southernwondernc  5 років тому

      Amanda Shoubaki sometimes it’s the spray that turns it green and sometimes it’s the ink. It’s just one of those things you just don’t know which it is. Mine turned back brown before I epoxied it.
