My only misgiving is the slim fit and smock design will make it hard to put on / take off rapidly when racing / need it on fast
Are there cheaper alternatives?
Nice video. I am between this and the helikon-tex Windrunner, the last one is not waterproof just water repellent.
yeah new folks getting into the active lifestyle needs to get their info straight on that. its easy to make a mistake between water resistant, water repellent, and water proof. i can say from experience when i started cycling to work and trying to build my rainproof cycling kit i failed miserably during the start because i got the water resistant pants and jackets. i thought they meant the same thing because i saw the description saying something along the lines like "good in wet or rain condition" so i assume that it'll be good for heavy rain. sometimes they admit that that its for showers or light rain but then use jargon and start blending in waterproof to confuse people lmao!!
It's 20k MVTR not 40
If I'm 180cm tall and 77kg, should I go for a medium or a large?
Hi Leon, the best thing to do would be to check out there size chart rab.equipment/uk/phantom-pull-on#product.info.sizing - Im 170cm, 77kg and this size small is snug as you can see
@@jamesmackeddie Thank you! Can you comment on its breathability after some more use?
@@idkwhattouseforname breathability comes down to what you are wearing, the conditions you are in and how you intend to use it. In the cold, with rain and wind, it does well, given its an ultra lightweight jacket, designed for breathability over outright weather protection and not something id want to spend hours on end in, in a winters storm. With that, im running in a merino base layer. By its very nature, it doesn't have the thermal properties of a thicker hardshell jacket, nor its cinching abilities. ultimately, you will always get wet running in a waterproof, primarily due to your sweat, and knowing when the balance is struck between your body temperature, what you wear beneath the jacket and the climatic conditions is how you'll get the best out of any jacket. I know its not a yes or no answer, but I don't believe anyone can give a yes or no answer given its situation dependant.
@@jamesmackeddie Got it. Getting too wet from the inside is what I am concerned about. I tend to sweat quite easily and am looking for a more breathable jacket than my current 3L Goretex Pro.
Relatively speaking, is the pertex more breathable than that.
Yes, as will be an goretex active. Looking for 2 1/2 layer jackets like Pertex shield 2.5 will provide greater breathability and less water resistance. Other than the holes the 4 holes in the jacket ;) a waterproof will only get wet through sweat unless the membrane is punctured. Also worth noting, keeping the Jacket clean and DWR coating fresh will aid breathability. I run hot and sweat like the lynx man. I save 3 layers goretex or neoshell jackets for slow days with groups, walking and shooting races
Anorak, not jacket.
You did a very good job on the review but I still don't care for a pull over. ATB
Yup, each to their own, I generally stick to a full zip most of the time, for me this is for days I don’t intend to wear one or when the weather can’t make its mind up
If you hike in the rain you going to get wet no matter what jacket you wearing. Lol
You’ll get wet what ever activity you get through your sweat & ingress in the 4 big holes ;)
Pro tip: watch movies at Flixzone. I've been using them for watching all kinds of movies these days.
@Jason Frank definitely, have been watching on flixzone for years myself :)
How's this a legit review if you're not out in the rain putting it to the test. All you did was repeat what their own website already says.
you cant chose the weather for the period I was sent to review it and standing underneath a shower will bead, but not allow for a run, given it wont breath as would in real world conditions.
as this was shot a couple years ago, ive run in it over winters in the rain and it has breathed well against other jackets ive used and provided ample weather protection for its weight
